Based on his 2014 short film of the same name, Protein is the feature film debut of award-winning writer/director Tony Burke and offers a compelling blend of blackly-comic small-town crime thriller, nuanced character drama and grisly cannibal horror. It stars Craig Russell (Queen Cleopatra), Kezia Burrows, Steven Meo, Charles Dale, Andrea Hall, Ross O’Hennessy, and Richard Elis.

The film premiered to rave reviews and an enthusiastic audience reaction at London’s FrightFest 2024.

A grisly blend of dark comedy, urban decay and escalating gang violence is headed to cinemas this June with Protein, the debut feature from writer-director Tony Burke. Expanding on Burke’s 2014 short of the same name, Protein follows a traumatised former soldier named Sion, played by Craig Russell, who returns to his hometown in South Wales in search of peace and routine. What he finds instead is a destructive obsession with bodybuilding and a chilling compulsion to consume human flesh for its protein content. When he murders and eats a local drug dealer, it sets off a violent chain reaction that spirals far beyond his control, pitting rival criminal factions against one another in a rapidly escalating turf war.

Production has started in Wales on director Jamie Adams’ latest movie, “Let’s Love.” The film brings together a talented ensemble, including Martin Freeman from “The Responder,” Josh Hutcherson from “The Hunger Games,” Malin Akerman from “Watchmen,” and Jess Weixler from “Monsters.”

The relationship-focused comedy follows four movie industry professionals who reunite in Wales. They believe they are attending a fan event celebrating the 10th anniversary of their previous successful collaboration. However, the group discovers their studio contact scheduled them for the wrong month. This unexpected change gives them a chance to develop a new pitch for a sequel to their original film.

Martin Freeman (The Responder), Josh Hutcherson (The Hunger Games) Malin Akerman (Watchmen), Jess Weixler (Monsters), Craig Roberts (Submarine) have been confirmed in the cast of Jamie Adams’ Let’s Love as shooting is underway in Wales.

Written by Adams, with contributions from the cast, the improvised comedy is filming across Cardiff, the Brecon Beacons, Porthcrawl and at Dragon Studios in Bridgend. Postproduction be completed by early 2025.

The relationship comedy is produced by Bristol-based Happy Hour Productions and Manchester-based Boudica Entertainment in association with Principal Film Finance. Further cast members include Chloe Jouannet and Richard Elis.

Freeman co-stars as screenwriter Nigel alongside Akerman as film director Andrea, Hutcherson as her lead actor husband Jackson and Weixler as his on-screen romantic lead Jess. The quartet reunite in Wales for a 10-year anniversary fan convention of their last hit film, only to discover the hapless studio rep has booked the wrong month.

Jamie Adams, the filmmaker behind such indies as She is Love and Black Mountain Poets, wrote and is directing the movie, which recently wrapped production. Newly launched sales banner The Syndicate is handling worldwide sales.

Cara Shine Ballarini and Rebecca Miller of Good Pals are producing along with Shaun Sanghani of Sss Entertainment. Sanghani also financed through his credit facility Sss Film Capital. The trio first worked together on the critically acclaimed school shooting drama The Fallout that starred Jenna Ortega and picked up by HBO Max in 2021.

“House of the Dragon” star Fabien Frankel plots to steal an expensive painting alongside Greta Bellamacina (“This England”) in a trailer for their new art heist feature “Venice at Dawn.”

Frankel plays Dixon while Bellamacina is Sally. After the duo have a drunken encounter at a bar, they come up with a plan to swipe a costly piece of art from Sally’s ex-boyfriend Stephen (“After Life” star Tom Basden). “There’s this huge house and he owns this painting which is worth millions of pounds – money, money, money,” Sally tells Dixon. “Tomorrow the house is going to be empty, the painting will be there and we could steal it.” Naturally high-jinks ensue.

YouTube turned actor Tanya Burr (“Twist”) co-stars as Stephen’s best friend while actor and director Celyn Jones (“The Almond and the Seahorse”) leads a Greek chorus of bumbling detectives as Detective Symonds.

Filming has wrapped on the latest comedy feature from UK writer-director Jamie Adams, which has a working title of Or Something Like It, and stars UK comedian Julia Davis and Screen Star of Tomorrow 2022, Harry Trevaldwyn.

It is set in a sleepy coastal town in south Wales, and follows an arthouse filmmaker’s trials and tribulations as she attempts to give a masterclass. Davis plays the filmmaker, while Trevaldwyn stars as the event organiser she collides with.

UK comedy-drama Wild Honey Pie has wrapped a four-week shoot in Wales.

The film marks writer-director Jamie Adams’ fifth feature, his previous credits include Black Mountain Poets, which played at Edinburgh and SXSW in 2016.

Wild Honey Pie stars Jemima Kirke (Girls) alongside Alice Lowe (Prevenge). Joanna Scanlan, Sarah Solemani, Brett Goldstein and Richard Elis round out the cast.

The project is produced by Adams’ Twenty Dollar Pictures, alongside David Wade and Maggie Monteith for Dignity Film Finance and Fivelanes Films, in partnership with Noel Clarke and Jason Maza through Unstoppable Entertainment.
