Evil Star Mike Colter Reunites With Creators for New CBS Show Cupertino
Image
An Evilstar is reuniting with the show's creators for a new series on CBS. Evil originally aired on CBS before moving to streaming on Paramount+. Ahead of a potential season 5, Paramount+ canceled Evil, which was met with a deeply divisive reception.

Those involved with the show and the enthusiastic fan base expressed disappointment about the show's premature cancellation, and that there was still a great deal left to explore in future seasons that now would not come to fruition.

However, as per Variety, Evil star Mike Colter is now reuniting with creators Robert and Michelle King after signing onto their new CBS show Cupertino. The "David vs. Goliath legal drama" set in Silicon Valley has not been officially greenlit yet by CBS, but it is in development. Check out the official description of Colter's Cupertino character below:

Iconic ’80s Vampire Movie ‘The Lost Boys’ Is Now Streaming for Free
Image
The 80s were a great time for Hollywood movies, from slasher flicks to adventure and comedy to sci-fi every genre elevated the features with innovation in practical effects and unique protagonists. Which in turn gave us iconic films like Jurassic Park, Et, Blade Runner along with horror films like The Shining, Evil Dead II, The Fly, and many more. And one of these iconic horror movies is now available free to stream.

The Lost Boysis now available to stream on The Roku Channel. The movie is often dubbed the best vampire film from the decade. Directed by Joel Schumacher, the film is loved for its strong script, very unique characters, and humor that helps to dissolve the most intense situations. Schumacher’s visual aesthetic is slick, glossy, and appealing, much like the vampiric lifestyle we see now in the genre. While in contemporary times Twilight is considered to revive the YA vampire genre,...

James Gunn's Original Superman Movie Villain Was Out Of This World
Image
We may receive a commission on purchases made from links.

Here's a no-brainer: make Lex Luthor the villain of your "Superman" movie. If there's one Superman villain who everyone knows, it's Lex. Nicholas Hoult's Lex in James Gunn's new "Superman" might just be the best one yet. But before Gunn decided on Lex as the movie's bad guy (with some muscle provided by the masked Ultraman), he weighed using at least one other villain. Specifically, a Superman nemesis whom fans have long wanted on the big screen.

In a recent interview on the "Happy Sad Confused" podcast with Josh Horowitz, Gunn revealed that he "considered" using Brainiac in "Superman." He didn't elaborate on what that version of the film would've looked like, but DC fans should be reassured that James Gunn is aware of Brainiac. While Gunn and DC Studios aren't rushing to make a "Superman" sequel right now,...

21 Years Later, a Sci-Fi Masterpiece With 1 of the Most Controversial Finales in TV History Is Quietly Dominating the PVOD Charts
Image
One of J. J. Abrams' most acclaimed (and divisive) series is dominating the VOD charts. A new report indicates that Lostis still quiet popular.

Per FlixPatrol, Lost has quietly found a foothold on the video-on-demand charts via iTunes. Lost continues to gain traction, rising two spots in recent days to reach the number ten spot on the list. Currently, the number one spot is held by Superman & Lois, with Rick and Morty and Arrested Development following behind in second and third place, respectively.

Lost premiered in 2004, and quickly it cemented its place as the then-latest television sensation. Created by J. J. Abrams, Jeffrey Lieber, and Damon Lindelof, the latter of whom served as showrunner alongside Carlton Cuse, Lost featured a star-studded ensemble cast who, for various reasons, found themselves stranded on a strange, secluded island filled with all manner of monsters and mysteries. ‘Elsbeth’ Casting Director Reveals Season 3 Guest Star They Really Want
Image
Elsbeth‘s casting director stays busy with a constant rotation of guest stars to play killers of the week on the Columbo-inspired CBS procedural. The series has collected a star-studded guest list across two seasons that includes Nathan Lane, Matthew Broderick (and his son!), Laurie Metcalf, Alyssa Milano, Mary-Louise Parker, David Alan Grier, Vanessa Williams, and more. And of course, Season 2 had a noteworthy recurring guest star in Michael Emerson, Carrie Preston‘s husband who came on as Elsbeth Tascioni’s arch nemesis. Casting director Findley Davidson already has her eye on her ideal guest star for Elsbeth Season 3. Discussing the guest star casting process, Davidson said it was harder to get talent booked in Season 1 when the show was still a relative unknown. While Preston’s character is a fan-favorite from The Good Wife and The Good Fight, the Elsbeth title didn’t immediately click for agents. “I’d call up somewhere like CAA,...

Broadcast Used to Be Weird, Fun, and Take Risks — What Happened?
Image
Netflix acquired Blindspot, and it’s been a fun series to revisit after it ended in 2010.

It was a classic case of NBC genre-bending, adapting a convoluted conspiracy thriller with sci-fi elements into a procedural format for general audience consumption.

Broadcast often knows the formula that works best. If you esconce some of the weirdest, most bizarre concepts within a procedural format, it may become a hit.

(Karen Kuehn/NBC)

If you want to explore supernatural and fantasy elements, just set it in a quaint town and make your lead character a detective, and next thing you know, Grimm is one of the most buzzworthy series on the air.

Hey, do you want to bring science-fiction elements to the general audience via creepy technology? No problem!

'Saw' Franchise Now Under New Management as Blumhouse Officially Acquires the Rights
Image
Saw is a classic horror franchise that tortures audiences just as much as the characters in its films. From the first installment, Jigsaw becomes as frightening as Michael Myers and Jason Voorhees, holding a grudge against his victims that he felt took life for granted and aims to teach them a deadly lesson. With 10 movies in the franchise, not all were hits, but that's something Blumhouse is looking to turn around now that the studio is adding Saw to its horror family. According to Variety, the company which made hits like Paranormal Activity, Five Nights at Freddy's, Get Out, M3GAN, and more has acquired the rights to future films, shows, and other properties of the franchise.

For a franchise of this status, Blumhouse must've paid a hefty sum to snag it; however, the amount is undisclosed. The company bought the portion of Saw that was owned by producers Oren Koules and Mark Burg,...

‘Elsbeth’ Star Carrie Preston Relishes No Longer Being the ‘Side Dish’
Image
Carrie Preston didn’t think she’d ever be headlining her first television series, much less as a character she’s played off and on for 15 years. The seasoned actress, whose small-screen resume is filled with memorable supporting parts in “True Blood” and “Claws,” first played Elsbeth Tascioni in 2010 in “The Good Wife.” She was an eccentric but brilliant lawyer with unconventional methods of solving tough cases. The character’s unique tics, scatterbrained quips and sunny disposition made her a fan favorite, winning Preston her first guest-actress Emmy in 2013. She reprised the role in the spinoff “The Good Fight,” where she directed two episodes.

When creators Robert and Michelle King gave Preston her own star vehicle with CBS’ “Elsbeth” — a “Columbo”-inspired “howdunit” police procedural — the 57-year-old actress was more than ready for the opportunity.

Why CBS Canceled Person Of Interest
Image
Identifying our favorite shows is a long process that consists of different factors, like how something looks, how it makes us feel, and how it relates to us personally. Individual interest plays a massive role in the stuff we fill our houses with, and even more to do with the things that occupy precious space in our noggins. You can believe something is vitally important, and a person standing right next to you can wonder why we should care about this random thing. Television history is littered with shows that felt like massive parts of people's weekly entertainment time, but ended up being cut short ahead of their planned endings. This is exactly what happened to "Person of Interest" over on CBS, and it turns out the fan-favorite was just a little bit too expensive compared to some of the other programming bets the network made in 2016.

"The Business Is Stupid": Evil's Creator Addresses The Show's Cancelation 10 Months After It Ended, Still Doesn't Understand The Decision
Image
Almost a year after the series finale, the creators of the supernatural drama Evil give a candid response to the show's cancellation. The ending of the popular Paramount+ original series leaves the door just open enough for a potential Evil season 5, with Kristen (Katja Herbers) and David (Mike Colter) beginning a new chapter in Rome. But despite acclaim and strong viewership, with its availability on Netflix, the show did not receive a last-minute renewal.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporterto reflect on their recent series, which includes Happy Face and Elsbeth, co-creators Robert and Michelle King reflected on the cancellation of Evil. The creative partners and married duo admit they still wonder about the decision to conclude the story and speculate on why there was no longer a need for the show. Check out their comments below:

Robert King: I don’t f***ing understand why Evil was canceled; I still can’t.

Blumhouse in Talks to Acquire ‘Saw’ Film Rights From Twisted Pictures
Image
Blumhouse is in talks to acquire the rights to Twisted Pictures’ portion of the “Saw” horror film franchise, according to media reports.

Lionsgate owns 50% of the franchise and will continue to be involved as a partner. The studio has the distributed the films dating back to the release of the first “Saw” in 2004.

James Wan directed the first “Saw” film and co-wrote the script with Leigh Whannell. Should the deal go through, it would restore partial control of the franchise to Wan.

Wan and Whannell’s “Saw” offered a deceptively simple premise of two desperate men chained together in an empty room with little idea of how they got there or how to get out.

Starring Cary Elwes and Danny Glover, Monica Potter and a pre-“Lost” Michael Emerson, “Saw” inspired a new wave of grindhouse horror, films that reveled in old-school gore and a certain Rube Goldberg mentality to...

6 Questions We Still Have About ‘Lost’
Image
You gotta give the Lost writers a lot of credit. Over the course of six seasons, the storytellers behind the hit ABC drama actually did answer the vast majority of the questions they raised. We know, for example, why Oceanic 815 crashed on a tropical island, why the survivors found polar bears there, why there were Others (and immortal beings) on the seemingly deserted isle, and whether our heroes were actually dead the whole time. Still, some mysteries remain 15 years after the series ended on May 23, 2010 — whether by narrative oversight or producer decree. We can grow flash-forward beards and shout “We have to go back!” as much as we want, but no number of return trips to the Island will yield answers. Here are some of the questions nagging us the most. 1. Who was with “Christian Shephard” in the cabin? In the Season 4 premiere, Hurley (Jorge Garcia) stumbled upon the same...

Alyssa Milano, Michael Emerson, and every famous guest star that ‘Elsbeth’ is submitting for the 2025 Emmys
Image
CBS will submit 25 performers from Elsbeth Season 2 for Emmy consideration, Gold Derby has learned.

That includes the three series regulars — Carrie Preston as quirky investigator Elsbeth Tascioni, Wendell Pierce as police captain Charles Wallace, and Carra Patterson as police officer-turned-detective Kaya Blanke — plus 22 famous guest stars who made an impact during the show's sophomore year.

Preston, a former guest actress Emmy winner (2013) for playing this same character on The Good Wife, will campaign in Best Drama Actress. Pierce and Patterson are seeking their first career Emmy bids, and are entering the respective races for Best Drama Supporting Actor and Best Drama Supporting Actress.

Several big names and award winners are among the guest stars being submitted. Who's the Boss? and Charmed star Alyssa Milano plays Lisette “Pupetta” Del Ponte, the owner of a restaurant embroiled in murder. Two-time Emmy winner Michael Emerson, who's married to Preston in real life, has...

15 Best TV Shows Like Lost
Image
We may receive a commission on purchases made from links.

It was the fall of 2004, and there was nothing like "Lost." While narrative arcs had finally become part of television, helped by sci-fi predecessors like "Babylon 5" and "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine," "Lost" used the technique to make its mark. It starts with a horrifying airplane incident, a passenger jet splitting in half high in the sky. Three years after 9/11, it was a ballsy play. But the survivors awoke in a tropical paradise, where little was as it seemed.

We were gripped by revelations that shocked us: Terry O'Quinn's walkabout turns into an inexplicable miracle, a mysterious signal is picked up, a monster made of smoke lurks at the fringes, and of course, the fateful discovery of the hatch. "Lost" didn't stick the landing as we devoured all six seasons (or maybe it did), with some mysteries turned...

7 Must-Watch Sci-Fi Shows on Netflix Right Now
Image
As the Netflix library balloons, it can be hard to figure out just where to start when you want something in a specific genre.

The streamer has a large collection of top-tier sci-fi shows on offer for fans of the genre, so where do you begin? Do you go with some strong international offerings made exclusively for Netflix? Do you start with all-time classics of the genre? It can all be a bit daunting.

Luckily, we’ve pared it down to seven great options to check out if you’re yearning for a new sci-fi show to sink your teeth into.

“Dark” remains to this day the best original offering Netflix has ever released. It is often pitched as a German “Stranger Things,” but that is a wildly reductive way to describe one of the all-time great time travel stories. The three-season show explores a town through three time periods,...

‘Fallout’ Gets Season Three Renewal Ahead of Season Two’s Arrival This December
Image
Production recently wrapped on the second season of Prime Video’s “Fallout.” Today, Prime Video announced that it has renewed its hit series for a third season.

As for when to expect season two? Look for it to arrive this December 2025.

Based on the mega popular video game, “Fallout” is the story of haves and have-nots in a world in which there’s almost nothing left to have…

“200 years after the apocalypse, the gentle denizens of luxury fallout shelters are forced to return to the irradiated hellscape their ancestors left behind — and are shocked to discover an incredibly complex, gleefully weird and highly violent universe waiting for them.”

Season two will pick up from season one’s finale and “take audiences along for a journey through the wasteland of the Mojave to the post-apocalyptic city of New Vegas.”

“The holidays came a little early this year – we are thrilled to...

'Fallout' Season 2 Sets Its Return to the Wasteland Much Sooner Than Expected
Image
Amazon's annual upfront presentation is underway tonight, and with it comes a few atomic bombshells for fans of Fallout. Filming just finished last week on Season 2, which seemed to line up the series for a return sometime next year, depending on post-production. However, the stars of Prime Video's record-breaking video game adaptation — Ella Purnell, Walton Goggins, and Aaron Moten — all took the stage at the event to announce that they'll be returning to the wasteland well before then. Though an exact date has yet to be settled, the series will be back on the small screen this December.

The exact story for Season 2 isn't known yet, but it will take the main trio of wasteland survivors to the Mojave Desert after that climactic finale at the Griffith Observatory. Season 1 largely followed Lucy (Purnell) as she left Vault 33 in search of her kidnapped dad, only to get wrapped up in a...

“I Hope It's Not Closed”: 'Elsbeth' Showrunner Addresses Elsbeth and Angus’ Romantic Future
Image
The CBS crime procedural series Elsbeth has won many fans over with its crime-of-the-week format, led by its titular quirky, clue-sniffing attorney-turned-sleuth. The show has thrived without leaning too much on romantic subplots, but perhaps that could change a bit as we look ahead to Season 3. Season 2, Episode 11, "Tiny Town," was a Valentine's Day special that introduced the character of Angus (played by Ioan Gruffudd) as Elsbeth's new flame. They had a rom-com-esque meet-cute through the Iris, and by the end of the episode, the Scotland-based musician flew a thousand miles to meet her in person, sealing their connection with a kiss. Although Gruffudd's appearance was initially set as a one-episode deal, seemingly putting an end to their budding romance, showrunner Jonathan Tolin has teased a promising future for the pair.

Angus hasn't appeared on Elsbeth since "Tony Town," but his presence has lingered through occasional references in Elsbeth's...

Classic Horror Fans Will Love This Thrilling, Underrated Paramount+ Series
Image
What if someone took a formulaic, yet fun monster-of-the-week approach to a supernatural procedural show, and soaked it in a delightful blend of strange and over-the-top tropes? This might feel a tad predictable — dated, even — when measured against similar story formats made for television, but some shows manage to break all molds while experimenting with the familiar. Robert and Michelle King's "Evil" is one such entity, as it has consistently challenged perceptions and reinvented itself over the course of its four-season run. While one would expect a supernatural series to take a case-per-week approach, "Evil" isn't scared to oscillate between bleak humor and deliberately campy overtones to fuel its fascinating premise. All four seasons of the show is now streaming in full on Paramount+ (with the first three seasons available on Netflix).

In "Evil," David (Mike Colter) begins as a priest-in-training, who is joined by forensic psychologist Kristen (Katja Herbers...

'Fallout' Announces Production Wrap Via Walton Goggins Face Melt

We're returning to the post-apocalyptic wasteland of Southern California sooner than one might think. That's right, Prime Video's acclaimed series based on the video game of the same name, Fallout, has officially wrapped production on Season 2. ‘Fallout’ Season 2 Gets a Nuclear Update From Ella Purnell
Image
We're officially one step closer to returning to the wasteland and visiting New Vegas. Ella Purnell announced on Instagram that Season 2 of the smash-hit Fallout has wrapped filming, sharing a photo of her with her on-screen dad, Kyle MacLachlan. The update marks the end of a months-long production beginning in November and starts the countdown before the new episodes drop on Prime Video. Assuming a similar post-production schedule to the first run, Lucy and Hank MacLean could be back on our screens in a bit over a year, landing the premiere sometime within the spring or summer of 2026.

Season 2 of Fallout will heavily revolve around both Lucy and Hank after the final confrontation at the Griffith Observatory in Season 1. The finale finally brought the show's three leads — the aforementioned vault dweller, the Brotherhood of Steel member Maximus (Aaron Moten), and The Ghoul, formerly known as Cooper Howard (Walton Goggins) — together...

‘Elsbeth’ Boss Teases Danger for Elsbeth With Returning Guest Stars in Prison (Video)
Image
In the penultimate May 1 episode of the hit show’s sophomore season, NYPD police adviser Elsbeth Tascioni (the delightful Carrie Preston) was arrested after her efforts to catch a killer crossed the line, and now she’s in serious legal trouble. The judge, unfortunately for Elsbeth, was a great friend of the late Judge Milton Crawford (Michael Emerson), who had a contentious relationship with Elsbeth, who was trying to prove he had murdered two people decades earlier, and happened to be shot and killed while standing next to the lawyer-turned-sleuth. The Thursday, May 8, guest star-packed season finale finds Elsbeth incarcerated with nine of the murderers she has helped put away. Among the miscreants making return visits: lecherous theater director (and Elsbeth’s first success as an amateur detective) Alex Modarian (Stephen Moyer), society matchmaker Margo Clarke (Retta), plastic surgeon Vanessa Holmes (Gina Gershon), fashion designer Matteo Hart (André De Shields...

Elsbeth Season 2 Says Goodbye to Major Character - And Fans Aren't Happy
Image
Elsbeth Season 2, Episode 18, killed off the season's big bad in an unexpected twist, and some fans expressed concern over the show's handling of such a major character. Throughout a good chunk of Elsbeth Season 2, the titular lawyer has made it her mission to prove that Michael Emerson's Judge Crawford killed Andy Mertens and framed his girlfriend, Delia, for his death.

Season 2's latest episode doubled down on Elsbeth's efforts to take down Crawford while also showing the shady judge's backstory and motivation behind targeting Mertens.

A flashback showed a young Milton Crawford murdering a girl named Sherry inside a country club pool, and the only witness is Andy Mertens. While Crawford managed to convince young Andy to stay silent about his gruesome act, an adult Andy eventually reached out anonymously to the Senate Judiciary Committee to report him, prompting Crawford to kill him.

New ‘Elsbeth’ Season 2 Sneak Peek Has Billy Magnussen Snooping Around a Crime Scene [Exclusive]
Image
Elsbeth’s latest murder investigation might have just found its prime suspect — and he’s not exactly being subtle about it. In Elsbeth Season 2, Episode 19, titled "I’ve Got a Little List," the quirky lawyer-turned-detective (played by Carrie Preston) crosses paths with Rod, an entitled adrenaline junkie played by Billy Magnussen. Rod’s mission? Working through a "bucket list" of extreme thrills — and it just might include murder.

Collider is thrilled to present an exclusive sneak peek from the episode, courtesy of CBS, and let’s just say Rod is raising plenty of red flags. In the clip, Magnussen’s Rod is spotted lingering at the crime scene, fishing for information from Elsbeth about whether there’s been any breakthrough or discovery of evidence. When she tells him there hasn’t been, he looks a little too pleased with the answer. Rod tries to laugh it off as just another example of “typical New York,...

“It Does Knock Her off Her Feet”: Carrie Preston on Michael Emerson’s Shocking End in ‘Elsbeth’ Season 2
Image
Elsbethhas been a beautifully quirky look at a murder of the week show. A spin-off series from The Good Wife and The Good Fight universe, the series stars Carrie Preston as the ever-bubbly Elsbeth Tascioni. In Season 2, we got to see Preston's real-life husband, actor Michael Emerson, play Judge Milton Crawford. And, as is typically the case for the Loststar, his character was less than a "good" guy. But still, his arc in Season 2 did hurt to watch, at least for Preston.

Unfortunately, Judge Milton Crawford met his match and ended up dying. So if you were hoping for a spin-off series for him, think again. But Preston and Emerson were speaking with Variety about the season as a whole, and Preston shared how important she felt it to be. “It is our most dramatic episode of the whole series so far, and I think it is an important episode because of that,...

With His ‘Elsbeth’ Arc Done, Michael Emerson Reveals What ‘Terrified’ Him About Costarring With Wife Carrie Preston
Image
[Warning: The following contains Major spoilers for Elsbeth Season 2 Episode 18, “I Know What You Did Thirty-Three Summers Ago.”] Well, there goes any chance of Michael Emerson returning in Elsbeth Season 3. The Lost and Evil alum’s villain arc came to a “biblical” conclusion, as Emerson describes it to TV Insider, in the Thursday, April 24, episode, and his ending is as memorable as it is classically dramatic. It also guarantees that Judge Milton Crawford can’t return unless in flashbacks. The episode revealed Crawford’s backstory, and as previewed by Emerson before the episode came out, young Milton was just as murderous as his older self. He’s a “sociopath,” Emerson told TV Insider, one who killed a teenage girl when he was a teen because she rejected his sexual advances. The only other person involved in that bloody night at their country club pool was none other than Andy, the man viewers saw Crawford murder in his...

You can pick your jaw up off the floor now. The Elsbeth episode is over, and like you, TV Fanatic is utterly in shock. I don’t care how intuitive you are — No One saw that twist coming.

Just wow. It’s common knowledge that the best way to create a captivating story is to supersede viewer expectations. There’s no better way to do that than by completely turning the story on its head.

Much like Elsbeth at the end of “I Know What You Did Thirty-Three Summers Ago,” we feel like we’re in an alternate reality where nothing makes sense.

Suffice it to say, Elsbeth Season 2 Episode 18 changed the game by introducing actual life-or-death stakes.
