Jason Momoa Unites a People in Apple’s ‘Chief of War’ Trailer
Image
Jason Momoa is back in battle — this time for a passion project years in the making. The “Game of Thrones” and “Aquaman” star teams up with Thomas Pa’a Sibbett for Apple’s “Chief of War,” based on true events in 18th century Hawai’i, for an ambitious nine-episode series unlike anything else on television.

The series follows warrior Ka‘iana (Momoa), a celebrated fighter from Puna, Hawai’i, who seeks to unite the tribes and islands against Western colonizers, At his side is Ka’ahumanu (“The Night Agent” star Luciane Buchanon), who calls Ka’iana “the fist of our people” in the face of almost certain war. As he prepares his community for the coming conflict, he must make a case for King Kahekili (Temuera Morrison) to lead the island, fight for their lives, and protect as many people as possible. The trailer depicts clashes on land and sea, with...

Jason Momoa Rides a Shark in Apple’s ‘Chief of War’ Trailer
Image
Only a true chief of war can ride a shark into battle.

That’s exactly what Jason Momoa does in the trailer for upcoming Apple TV+ series, Chief of War, which is being called a “historical drama” by the platform. You can take the man out of the aqua, but you can’t take the Aquaman out of the man.

Momoa (A Minecraft Movie) is not just the show’s star and his on-screen tribe’s chief — he also co-created, wrote on and executive produced the nine-episode series, and he directs the season finale. In other words, he’s come a long way from Khal Drogo in Game of Thrones.

Chief of War is based on true events, per Apple, and follows Hawaiian warrior Ka‘iana (Momoa), the man who must unify the islands ahead of Western colonization in the late 18th century. The series debuts its first two episodes on Apple TV+ on Friday,...

Ahsoka Season 2 Directors Reportedly Confirmed
Image
Some old and new faces are joining the Ahsoka directing party.

Per Inverse, several profiles on Independent Talent have revealed the names of four filmmakers working on Ahsoka season 2, including showrunner Dave Filoni, Jennifer Getzinger, Bryce Dallas Howard, and Anders Engström. While Getzinger previously oversaw season 1's sixth episode "Part Six: Far, Far Away," Howard is a veteran director of the Disney+ Star Wars era, having filmed episodes of The Mandalorian, The Book of Boba Fett, and Skeleton Crew respectively. By contrast, this will be Engström's first Star Wars project, with the Finnish director's prior body of TV work including Hanna, See, and Percy Jackson and the Olympians.

Filmming on season 2 began in late April, with series lead Rosario Dawson confirming she was back to playing Ahsoka Tano shortly after this year's Star Wars Celebration in Japan. Details about season 2 still remain unclear, despite the finale focusing on Grand Admiral...

Star Wars stacked Ahsoka season 2 with fan-favorite directors
Image
Lucasfilm has seemingly revealed some of the directorial team behind Ahsoka season 2, and it’s all but guaranteed to deliver everything fans are hoping for.

According to credits recently spotted by Star Wars News Net and shared across social platforms, Ahsoka season 2 will feature episodes by:

Dave Filoni (series creator and showrunner)Bryce Dallas HowardJennifer GetzingerAnders Engström (known for Percy Jackson and the Olympians and See)

This lineup combines Lucasfilm’s current creative pillars with a couple of fresh voices. Here's why they matter:

Dave Filoni leads the charge, steering the overall narrative while contributing his signature passion for the character and lore. In April 2023, Filoni was promoted to Chief Creative Officer of Lucasfilm—an indication of how pivotal his vision is across the franchise.

Bryce Dallas Howard is the only director to have directed episodes across The Mandalorian, Book of Boba Fett, Skeleton Crew, and now Ahsoka.

Star Wars legend making unexpected return in Disney Plus show
Image
It's a thrilling time to be a Star Wars fan. Sure, the franchise has had some ups and downs in recent years as Lucasfilm figured out how to bring it back to the big screen, but it has found a balance between its newfound success on streaming and recapturing the momentum of the Skywalker Saga on the silver screen.

That common ground will come in The Mandalorian and Grogu, the live-action movie that will bring characters from the beloved Disney Plus show The Mandalorian to the movie theaters for the first time. It's an interesting choice that could very well prove to be a massive success story, for the show that originated these characters is one of the franchise's - and Disney Plus' - most successful projects ever.

It's unclear if The Mandalorian will return for a fourth season now that a movie is in development, but it has already launched multiple spinoffs,...

Jason Momoa Stars in Teaser for Apple’s Sweeping True Story ‘Chief of War’
Image
History is often told by the “victors” — even if their path was wrong.

For example, it’s a conveniently heroic narrative to tell the story of a country founded by free people who rebelled against an oppressive monarchic regime. It’s less convenient to tell it from the perspective of everyone they stepped on to gain freedom (and sometimes borderline impossible thanks to systemic erasure). U.S. history is filled with the lost stories of Indigenous people, but Jason Momoa and Thomas Pa’a Sibbett’s “Chief of War” wants to change that.

The upcoming Apple TV+ drama is a passion project for both Sibbett and Momoa, who also serves as star and writer and directed the season finale. He plays Ka’iana, a warrior who tries to unite the people of Hawai’i against European settlers in the late-18th century. The English navigator John Meares described his “Herculean appearance” as “replete with dignity,...

'Percy Jackson' Star Adam Copeland Says Season 2 Will Be Darker, More Mature
Image
Percy Jackson and the Olympians may have been an outstanding fantasy series, seamlessly blending teen camaraderie with Greek mythology, but one of its stars teases that the second season will delve into darker and more mature themes. Released in 2023 as a ten-episode series, it follows young Percy Jackson as he goes on a perilous quest to find Zeus' master bolt and prevent a looming war among the gods.

Season 1 of the fantasy series adapts Rick Riordan's first book, The Lightning Thief. With Season 2 on the horizon, it will bring The Sea of Monsters (second book) to life, as Percy and his friends embark on another treacherous journey to retrieve the Golden Fleece in order to protect Camp Half-Blood.

In a recent interview with ScreenRant, Adam "Edge" Copeland, who plays God of War Ares in the series, discussed how the tale of Percy Jackson and the Olympians has evolved since its debut.

‘Percy Jackson And The Olympians’ Premiere Surpasses 26M Views Since Debut On Disney+ & Hulu
Image
Exclusive: Percy Jackson and the Olympians is firing on all cylinders for Disney+.

The premiere episode of the streamer’s original series, based on the books by Rick Riordan, has now amassed 26.2M views in its first three weeks on Disney+ and Hulu, according to the company. That’s double the viewership it managed in its first week.

Disney says that all five available episodes have surpassed 10M views in their first week on the platform, which seems to stay in line with the premiere’s initial viewership, though some decline is very usual and expected as the season progresses.

The company defines a view as hours viewed divided by runtime, similar to Netflix’s calculation.

Nielsen data for Percy Jackson and the Olympians could be available as early as Thursday, if the first two episodes manage to make it into the streaming top 10 in their first week on the service.

‘Percy Jackson and the Olympians’ Is the Epic Adaptation Series Deserves
Image
They say never to meet your childhood heroes. Even the fictional ones don’t always hold up — problematic creators, disappointing endings, stories that don’t stand the test of time — and the inevitable adaptations of those juggernaut stories risk falling flat and failing to capture the magic of the original.

But fans of Rick Riordan’s “Percy Jackson” novels — both new and old, as there is sure to be an uptick — can rejoice in the knowledge that “Percy Jackson and the Olympians,” now streaming on Disney+, is more than worthy of its source material and the massive mythology behind it. Riordan himself co-created and executive produces the series along with Jon Steinberg, the pair of them extensively involved in production and writing. For adults who discovered Percy back in 2005 or new generations joining the quest with time to spare (a seventh novel is slated for 2024 publication), this hero is one worth meeting.

‘Percy Jackson and the Olympians’ Review: Disney+ Series Adaptation Does Right by Youngest Viewers
Image
Like Showtime’s recent Dexter: New Blood or USC football’s freshly hired new defensive coordinator, Disney+’s Percy Jackson and the Olympians comes with a deceptively simple mandate: Just be better than the thing that came immediately before.

Christopher Columbus’ 2010 feature Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief was so bad — and, more specifically, the film was such a misconceived adaptation of Rick Riordan’s Greek mythology-fueled novel series — that Disney+’s series need only “come closer” in order to succeed.

And it does!

With Riordan co-creating along with Jonathan E. Steinberg, Disney+’s Percy Jackson and the Olympians is a generally faithful approach to the books. It carefully targets a younger demographic, honoring what’s likably relatable in the source material and delivering a dose of fantastical whimsy, all while making very few outrage-worthy changes.

Is that the same, mind you, as being a good show? Only occasionally.

‘Percy Jackson And The Olympians’: Disney+ Series’ Premiere To Also Stream On Hulu
Image
In another sign of Disney+ and Hulu’s deepening ties, the first episode of Disney+’s high profile new original series Percy Jackson and the Olympians will launch on Hulu, concurrent to the series’ two-episode premiere on Disney+ Dec. 20. The announcement was made by Percy Jackson author Rick Riordan at the series’ premiere in New York Wednesday night.

The first episode will be available on Hulu through Jan. 31 while new episodes of Percy Jackson will be released weekly on Disney+.

Disney used a similar strategy recently with Disney+’s Star Wars series Andor, whose two-episode premiere was also made available on Hulu, and with the Disney+ original series Goosebumps, whose entire first season was shared on both streamers.

The moves come as Disney just rolled out a beta version of the “one-app experience,” combining Hulu — now fully owned — and Disney+ for bundle subscribers. The merged app will officially launch in March.

‘Percy Jackson and the Olympians’ to Premiere on Hulu Alongside Disney+
Image
“Percy Jackson and the Olympians,” the Disney+ series based on the book series of the same name, will concurrently launch on Hulu on Dec. 20.

Only the first episode will stream on Hulu, while Disney+ will get two episodes on the premiere date, followed by new episodes weekly. Additionally, Episode 1 will remain on Hulu only through Jan. 31.

The news was announced by “Percy Jackson” author and series co-creator Rick Riordan during the show’s red carpet premiere at the Met Museum in New York City on Wednesday.

The series marks a long-waited adaptation for the IP, as Riordan published the first “Percy Jackson and the Olympians” book in 2005. 20th Century Fox released two “Percy Jackson” films in 2010 and 2013, but changes to the books and Riordan’s lack of involvement made them unpopular among the fanbase, and the studio never adapted the last three books.

“After the movie experience, I basically wrote off Hollywood for a long,...

A storm is brewing, and this one could usher in the end of times.

Disney+ has released a new trailer for Percy Jackson and the Olympians, and there's a good chance it will be the streaming service's best series this year.

With the Marvel Cinematic Universe imploding on both the big screen and on streaming, and the tepid response to The Mandalorian Season 3, Disney+ is betting on Percy Jackson and the Olympians.

In the past, Disney+ hasn't put its marketing muscle behind projects outside the MCU and Star Wars universe.

If the series manages to break through, it will probably urge the streaming service to take more significant risks.

Adapting Rick Riordan's bestselling book series for the small screen already looks to be paying off.

While the two big-screen adaptations were criticized, everything we see for Percy Jackson and the Olympians looks like a natural next step for the franchise.

Disney Brings The Beloved Book To Life (Properly This Time) With The Percy Jackson And The Olympians Trailer
Image
As much as coming-of-age stories like "Harry Potter" tended to suck up all the oxygen in the room during our younger years, Millennials of a certain age can't help but look back fondly on the "Percy Jackson" series. Author Rick Riordan's novels took a fantastical spin on Greek mythology and cleverly blended it with all the typical teenage angst found in YA books everywhere. This approach proved so popular, in fact, that 20th Century Studios ushered in two big-budget film adaptations in the early 2010s, following the adventures of the young demigod Percy Jackson with grand ambitions of all six of Riordan's original books. That didn't exactly pan out as expected and plans for the franchise all but fizzled out with "Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters" in 2013 ... not least of all because Riordan essentially disowned the films.

The upcoming Disney+ series, however, has been working overtime to right those...

‘Percy Jackson and the Olympians’ Trailer Teases the Demigod’s Quest
Image
The latest trailer for Percy Jackson and the Olympians takes viewers farther into the challenges its title character will face.

The new clip follows an earlier teaser that focused on Percy’s (Walker Scobell) realization that he’s a demigod — the child of a Greek god and a human — and expands on it, showing the characters in previously unseen settings and facing off against new threats as he and his friends Annabeth (Leah Sava Jeffries) and Grover (Aryan Simhadri) race to return Zeus’ master lightning bolt to Olympus..

Percy Jackson and the Olympians is based on author Rick Riordan’s best-selling quintet of novels; the eight-episode first season, which premieres Dec. 20, will follow the events of the first book in the series, The Lightning Thief. Scobell, Jeffries and Simhadri star with Glynn Turman, Megan Mullally, Toby Stephens, Virginia Kull, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Jason Mantzoukas, Jay Duplass, Adam Copeland, Charlie Bushnell, Dior Goodjohn,...

Now might be the perfect time to re-read Rick Riordan’s “Percy Jackson and the Olympians” books before the adaptation arrives on Disney+ at the end of the year. Will the Disney+ ‘Percy Jackson’ Series Incorporate the New Books? Author Rick Riordan Weighs In
Walker Scobell, Aryan Simhadri, and Leah Sava' Jeffries in Percy Jackson and the Olympians (2023)
After nearly 15 years, “Percy Jackson and the Olympians” author Rick Riordan is out with a new book centered on the original core trio of Percy, Annabeth and Grover, “Percy Jackson and the Olympians: Chalice of the Gods.” But, will this new set of adventures make it into the upcoming Disney+ series? Well, for Riordan, it’s too soon to say — but he’s not opposed to it.

“That is just too far down the horizon to know the answer to. I don’t know,” he told TheWrap at his Chicago book tour stop on Sunday. “I mean, right now we’re just focusing on season one. And if it does well, who knows? You know, the kids are totally excited. Even after all the work they’ve done, they’re still really excited to get back to it, so I know they’re looking forward to whatever is going to...

Percy Jackson and the Olympians Trailer Unveils Desperate Quest to Find the Master Bolt

‘Percy Jackson and the Olympians’ Trailer Sets Up Quest for Zeus’ Master Lightning Bolt (Video)
Walker Scobell, Aryan Simhadri, and Leah Sava' Jeffries in Percy Jackson and the Olympians (2023)
Thank the gods! There’s a new teaser for Disney’s upcoming “Percy Jackson and the Olympians” television series, which stars Walker Scobell.

Based on the best-selling book series by author Rick Riordan, “Percy Jackson and the Olympians” follows a 12-year-old modern demigod, Percy Jackson, who learns that he has godly powers because his father is Poseidon, Greek god of the sea. The first two episodes of the eight-episode first season premieres Dec. 20 on Disney+.

“My name is Percy Jackson,” Scobell’s voiceover introduces his character at the beginning of the clip. “Am I a troubled kid? Yeah, you could say that.”

As a cover of Vance Joy’s “Riptide” sets the scene (iconic because Riptide is the name of Percy’s sword), Scobell goes on to describe what troubles his character. For Percy, letters swim around on the page, but he later learns that he has dyslexia because the...
