‘Every Heavy Thing’ Trailer – Barbara Crampton Stars in Mickey Reece’s Pitch Black Comedy
Image
Fresh off the film’s premiere at the Fantasia Film Festival last night, the official trailer has arrived for Mickey Reece’s (Climate of the Hunter) genre-bending film Every Heavy Thing.

Horror legend Barbara Crampton is part of a cast including Vera Drew, John Ennis, Josh Fadem, Tipper Newton, and James Urbaniak.

Fantasia previews, “Mickey Reece’s distinctively absurdist humour has long left its imprint on Fantasia audiences through cult favourites like Country Gold, Agnes and Climate of the Hunter. With his latest feature, Reece returns with a pitch-black comedy set against the unsettling backdrop of a string of disappearances, with local women vanishing without a trace.

“The film follows Josh Fadem as Joe, an unassuming office worker at an online periodical who becomes entangled in a conspiracy after witnessing a murder. As a colleague begins to investigate, Joe struggles to conceal the truth, as his carefully constructed life falls apart.

Every Heavy Thing Fantasia Review — A Triumphant, Genre-Bending Indie
Image
Mickey Reece has carved a niche for himself in indie cinema, exploring different genres with his distinctive and idiosyncratic lens. His latest, Every Heavy Thing, sees him tackle yet another genre, crafting an impressively immersive thriller that captures the essence of the genre in a way that few other filmmakers have been able to achieve.

Every Heavy Thing Review

Every Heavy Thing follows an office worker for a small-town alt-weekly as he gets caught up in a conspiracy involving disappearing women when he accidentally witnesses a murder. The film feels fresh and unique because of how frequently it subverts expectations, from revealing what seems like it would have been its big reveal in the first act to its unique aesthetic and style that blends genres and references.

Reece’s film is a true oddity — a movie that both feels like a relic of the past and strangely zeitgeisty. It’s...

‘Rats!’ Review: Absurdist Suburban Nightmare Suggests Comic Surrealism Is Also Bigger in Texas
Image
The same appealingly anarchic, punk-scented strain of indie comedy that made cult favorites of “Repo Man” and the more recent “Dinner in America” also marks territory for “Rats!” Maxwell Nalevansky and Carl Fry’s debut feature is a sustained goof whose nonsensical progress scores higher for energy and attitude than wit, let alone substance. Truth to tell, the humor here is frequently at a pretty crass level that might induce mere eye-rolls if less deftly handled. But the writer-director duo lend it all a certain deadpan panache that’s diverting even when the material is less than inspired. At its best, often spiked by gleefully gratuitous gore, this very tall Texas tale trades in a kind of snarky absurdism likely to leave suitably jaded viewers in stitches. Yellow Veil opened it on limited U.S. theater screens Feb. 28, with digital release following March 11.

It’s 2007 in the faceless fictive Lone Star State suburbia of Pfresno,...

Official Trailer for Funky Texas Comedy 'Rats!' About a Graffiti Artist
Image
"She thinks that you are in possession of nukes and are planning to blow up Texas." Wait, what!? Yellow Veil Pictures has revealed an official trailer for a wacky, weird, indie comedy film titled Rats! set in Fresno, Texas. This initially premiered at the 2023 Cucalorus Film Festival a few years ago, and played at more fests throughout 2024 including Fantasia and Seattle and Calgary Underground. In Fresno, Texas, graffiti artist Raphael's arrest leads to his involvement in a chain of surprising events involving a sting operation, suicide, drug deals, criminal suspicions, weapons, a newswoman, and a plutonium deal gone wrong, creating chaos. Reviews add even more superlatives: "Chock-full of gross-out humor, emo haircuts, and a female cop who loves the c-word, Rats! is a shockingly touching coming-of-age story." Rats! stars Danielle Evon Ploeger, Luke Wilcox, Darius Autry, Khali Sykes, Ariel Ash, Jacob Wysocki, and John Ennis. Looks like a crazy...

New Bob Odenkirk Show Cancelation Gets Candid Reaction From Mr Show Co-Star: 'They Have All the F*cking Power!'
Image
Surprisingly Guru Nation has been canceled by Paramount+ due to unclear reasons. David Cross expressed confusion over Paramount+'s unexpected decision to cancel the show despite positive initial feedback and well-thought-out plans. The cancelation highlights the influence of industry marketing and analytics departments in determining which projects move forward, disappointing fans of Bob Odenkirk and David Cross.

Bob Odenkirk and David Cross were set to have a Mr. Show with Bob and David reunion in the new mockumentary comedy Guru Nation, but it seems the series has been canceled for reasons that one of its stars does not quite understand. The show, which was originally announced in 2022, would have seen Odenkirk and Cross as dueling cult leaders and already had prepared scripts drafted when Paramount surprisingly pulled the plug on the project.

David Cross revealed the news while appearing on Andrew Santinos Whiskey Ginger podcast. According to the actor, the...

‘Allegoria’ Review
Image
Stars: John Ennis, Krsy Fox, Bryce Johnson, Edward Hong, Adam Marcinowski | Written and Directed by Spider One

A timid actress, a tortured painter, a pretentious writer, a psychotic sculptor and a rock band all become entangled when their insecurities manifest themselves into monsters and ghouls.

Have you ever seen a movie that bored you to tears so much so that you wished you could send a bill to the writer and director for wasting so much of your hard-earned, precious free time? Well, that’s happened to me many times throughout the course of my life, and this year has seen plenty of those films as well. But to be honest with you, it seemed as if those extremely boring and awful movies were finally coming to an end.

And then, I saw Allegoria.

This is an outrageously bland movie with so much silliness injected into the film to the...

Ben Stiller Resurrecting Lost Disaster Comedy with Wiig, Cera, Cheadle, Odenkirk, and More
Image
Before Ben Stiller made his feature directing debut with the iconic ’90s cult classic “Reality Bites,” he’d been circling a comedy script written by David Cross and Robert Cohen. It was called “The Towering Disaster,” and Stiller developed the story with Cross and Cohen after collaborating on the short-lived MTV sketch comedy series “The Ben Stiller Show,” co-created by Stiller and Judd Apatow. While “The Towering Disaster” has remained in the vault ever since, Stiller will be dusting it off next weekend, on July 25, for a star-studded live table read benefiting racial justice initiatives and Covid relief efforts. Live read cast member Bob Odenkirk announced the news on Twitter this week. See below.

“July 25 Extravaganza…Holy S, this is the Big One,” Odenirk wrote. “David Cross and Rob Cohen wrote this ridiculously hilarious script sometime right after ‘The Ben Stiller Show’ cracked up…I loved it then, can’t...

Paul Rudd and Patton Oswalt Want to Live in Infamy in First Trailer for ‘Nerdland’
As the writer of Se7en and 8mm, one might not expect Andrew Kevin Walker to write an animated comedy featuring some of today’s top talent in the field, but here we are. Directed by Chris Prynoski, Nerdland follows two slackers who are attempting to make it big in Hollywood in unusal ways. Featuring the huge voice cast of Paul Rudd, Patton Oswalt, Hannibal Buress, Reid Scott, Mike Judge, Riki Lindhome, Kate Micucci, Laraine Newman, Brendon Small, John Ennis, and Paul Scheer, the first trailer has now arrived.

We said in our review, “Providing an escape valve for Andrew Kevin Walker, known for far more serious films about would-be serial killers (8Mm, Seven), Nerdland is an almost biting commentary on Hollywood that would appear to be more at home on the small screen (had it not been crudely drawn for Cinemascope).” Judging from the trailer, if one is a fan of Bojack Horseman,...

Another Hilarious Trailer For Paul Rudd and Patton Oswalt's Nerdland Animated Movie
Another trailer has been released for Paul Rudd and Patton Oswalt's upcoming animated film Nerdland. This movie looks pretty damn funny and if you're into forms of entertainment that contain absurd insanity, look no further. Nerdland looks like a completely wacked out good time.

The story is set in Hollywood and it centers on an aspiring screenwriter (Oswalt) and an aspiring actor (Rudd) who make a last-ditch effort to become famous before they hit their 30th birthdays. The film also features the voices of Hannibal Buress, Kate Micucci, Riki Lindhome, John Ennis, Mike Judge, Reid Scott, Laraine Newman and Paul Scheer.

Nerdland is the story of two best friends, aspiring screenwriter Elliot and aspiring actor John, whose dreams of super-stardom have fizzled. With their 30th birthdays looming and their desperation growing, John and Elliot decide that in this 24/7, celebrity-obsessed world of over-shared navel-gazing, there are more ways to become...

New Trailer for Animated 'Nerdland' with Paul Rudd & Patton Oswalt
"We need an instant-fame plan!" Samuel Goldwyn Films has released a new trailer for the upcoming release of Titmouse Studio's first feature-length animated film, titled Nerdland, from director Chris Prynoski. It tells the story of two best friends, voiced by Paul Rudd & Patton Oswalt - one an aspiring screenwriter, the other an aspiring actor - whose dreams of super-stardom have fizzled. They decide to "troll" Los Angeles on a "fame-grab journey, encountering and abusing friends both new and old." The voice cast also includes Hannibal Buress, Kate Micucci, Riki Lindhome, John Ennis, Mike Judge, Reid Scott, Laraine Newman and Paul Scheer. This looks totally wacky, and maybe fun to watch, but I'm not really that sure. New York Television Festival Receives Record High Submissions
2016 has been a banner year for the New York Television Festival. The Duplass Brothers-produced “Animals” pilot, which won Best Comedy at the festival in 2013, landed a two-season deal over at HBO. Multi-year alums of the festival Tory Stanton and Scott McCabe wrote a pilot called “No Tomorrow” that will score a premiere on The CW this fall. And that’s just the start.

Deadlines have passed for this year’s annual Independent Pilot Competition (Ipc) and the festival’s inaugural Nytvf Scripts competition. The statistics show interest in independent television — at least as far as it crosses into the festival — is hotter than ever.

Big Names On "Twin Peaks" Cast List Of 217
The new "Twin Peaks" isn't slated to debut on Showtime until 2017, but a flurry of speculation about it happened last week with a tweet from Go For Locations indicating that filming had wrapped on the "first two seasons" of the series.

The episode count for the David Lynch-directed series was always in question, but that tweet suggested we'd be getting even more episodes than originally planned. Said tweet has since been deleted, so we'll have to wait to see how that pans out.

in the meantime in more official news, Showtime, Lynch and Mark Frost has released the official cast list for the new series with a whopping 217 names across the various episodes - a list that includes some real surprise big name inclusions such as Monica Bellucci, Michael Cera, Naomi Watts, Tim Roth, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Eddie Vedder, Ashley Judd, Ernie Hudson, Jim Belushi, Richard Chamberlain, Laura Dern,...

Looking back at Mr. Show With Bob & David

As Bob Odenkirk and David Cross reunite for Netflix's W/Bob & David, we revisit the pair's original comedy series, Mr. Show...

“Hey, everybody! It's Bob and David!”

This Friday, Netflix will release four episodes of W/Bob & David, a new sketch show that reunites the cast of HBO's ground-breaking comedy series Mr. Show With Bob & David. For comedy fans of all stripes, this is unspeakably good news.

Mr. Show ran for 30 episodes (plus two clip show specials) between 1995 and 1998. It didn't set the world alight in terms of audience figures, but its weird and wonderful stylings mark it as a forerunner to shows like The Sarah Silverman Show, Portlandia, Key & Peele, Inside Amy Schumer and Tim & Eric Awesome Show! Great Job. To many of the alternative comedians currently working and coming up, Mr. Show is nothing short of the American answer to Monty Python's Flying Circus.

David Cross and Bob Odenkirk in Mr. Show with Bob and David (1995)
Review: The 'Mr. Show' gang reunites for Netflix's 'W/ Bob & David'
David Cross and Bob Odenkirk in Mr. Show with Bob and David (1995)
Even before the days of Peak TV in America, it was impossible for everyone to watch everything on television. We all have pop culture gaps. One of mine is "Mr. Show with Bob and David," the HBO sketch comedy show, created by and starring Bob Odenkirk and David Cross, that aired from 1995-98, and that employed Jack Black, Sarah Silverman, Paul F. Tompkins, Mary Lynn Rajskub, Scott Aukerman and more as actors and/or writers. I was in college when "Mr. Show" debuted, then didn't have an HBO subscription for the next couple of years, and by the time I started hearing comedy nerd friends singing its praises, it was virtually over, and though the series had an afterlife on DVD(*), other shows kept getting in the way. I've seen, and laughed heartily at, a handful of sketches over the years on YouTube, but that's it. (*) Like many of HBO's...

After Johnston says he plans to become a major Hollywood director within a year, and Cross discloses his intention to knock Samsung out of the cell phone game, Thompkins earns the group’s scorn when he tells them he’ll no longer eat red meat. Full Trailer For Netflix's W/ Bob & David
David Cross and Bob Odenkirk in Mr. Show with Bob and David (1995)
Before they were in shows such as Better Call Saul and Arrested Development, Bob Odenkirk and David Cross were a prime comedy duo, pumping out series such as Mr. Show. They’ve reunited for more sketches in a show for Netflix called W/ Bob & David, and the trailer is below. Attempting to convince the world that they have either been in cryogenic suspension or dishonourably discharged from the Navy Seals, the pair promises four shows that bring together funny folk that used to populate Mr. Show and other work including Paul F, Tompkins, Scott Aukerman, Jay Johnston and John Ennis, and newer faces Paget Brewster and Keegan-Michael Key.The trailer only gives a flavour, but we can likely expect the usual Bob and David brand of satire and silliness, and lots of props. It’s been a while since we’ve seen them have full rein over a show like this,...

Video of the Day: What if Batman’s parents faked their death?
Through numerous incarnations in comics, film, and television, Batman has become one of the most popular comic book characters, with 2016′s Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice bringing a new version of the character, and the Fox show Gotham exploring the world further. With the death of his parents at the hands of a criminal being the catalyst for Bruce Wayne’s turn into vigilante justice, the story of Batman’s origins have been explored in film and television a number of times, most notably in 1989′s Batman and 2005′s Batman Begins. A new comedy skit, however, written by Thrilling Adventure Hour‘s Ben Acker and Ben Blacker, explores the idea of the elder Waynes having faked their death, unbeknownst to Bruce. Mark Gagliardi plays Bruce, with Marc Evan Jackson and Paget Brewster taking on the roles of his parents, and John Ennis playing Alfred. The video can be seen below.

Jack Black
Watch: Does Tenacious D Rock Too Hard?
Jack Black
Fans of rock-metal-folk-comedy duo Tenacious D rejoice, for the D's newest work is almost here. The band's new album "Rize Of The Fenix" drops on May 15th, and in anticipation of the event, they released a promo video on "Rolling Stone" starring Bob Odenkirk.

Odenkirk plays Dr. Bill Teetz of the Tinnitis Institute, who, along with rock bassist Rudy Sarzo, examine the effects of the new Tenacious D album on Tinnitis sufferers. Symptoms include spontaneous violence, bleeding from the ears and tears of joy. Be on the lookout for Jack Black and Kyle Gass themselves making an appearance in the video.

Tenacious D were discovered by Odenkirk and David Cross of "Mr. Show with Bob and David," who later produced the short-lived Tenacious D HBO program, along with Black and Gass. Clearly, the relationship has not fizzled. John Ennis, another "Mr. Show" alum, is featured in the video as well.

The ‘Marley & Me’ House Is On The Market — See Where Jennifer Aniston Stayed!
Can you believe it? The ‘Marley & Me’ house is for sale! We all know the one – where Owen Wilson and Jennifer played in the big green yard with their kids and aging but adored dog, Marley.

The famed house from Marley & Me, which sits on 16 acres in rural Pennsylvania, is on the market for $1.25 million according to the Daily Local. It’s not just a house either, with a compound that includes four outbuildings and a barn. It’s all renovated, too, making the five-bedroom, three-and-a-half bath home nothing to pass up.

Who are the people selling the well-recognized “landmark?” John Ennis, a photographer, and Lisa Taylor Ennis, who plan to downsize because their kids are grown up. Guess they feel like they’re living in an empty nest and it’s time to move on.

John said the home still draws its fair share of fans, all stopping by to take photos.
