‘Mob Cops’ Movie Ending Explained & Summary: Is It Based On A True Story?
Image
Mob Cops, directed by Danny A. Abeckaser, has an interesting premise, but it is never able to harness its full potential. The film seems like a collection of snippets from mafia films over the ages. Mob Cops lacks originality, and it just isn’t able to impact you, entertain you, or even keep you hooked the way it wants to.

Spoiler Alert

Is The Film Based on a True story?

Mob Cops takes inspiration from real-life NYPD officers Stephen Caracappa (called Sammy Canzano in the film) and Louis Eppolito (called Leo Benetti in the film), who were arrested back in 2005 and sentenced to life imprisonment. The film had taken some creative liberties, changed the names of characters, and also dramatized the events so as to make the narrative more engaging. That said, the creators have made sure to capture the essence of the events that shook American society and brought...

'Goodfellas' Star & Real Gangster Comes to Life in 'Mob Cops'
Image
It's often hard to nail down just which of Oscar-winner Martin Scorsese's films is his absolute best. Some say it's GoodFellas, whose stars are still keeping busy in Hollywood today. One of the supporting players, the late Louis Eppolito — aka "Fat Andy" — would go on to star in other films after a career in real-life law enforcement. And as it turns out, he was convicted for having actual ties to the mob, making his GoodFellas appearance all the more ironic. His wild story is the inspiration for Mob Cops, out now, and MovieWeb recently caught up with Jeremy Luke, the actor who portrays Eppolito in Lionsgate's new film.

Luke recalled a scene from Mob Cops where he found himself utterly channeling Eppolito's moment of on-screen glory from an entirely separate gangster movie. "I was in the Chinese restaurant, I go, 'How you doing?' And I grabbed the glass — because this character,...

Mob Cops Movie Review – David Arquette’s Co-Stars Steal the Show
Image
Danny A. Abeckaser’s Mob Cops bases itself on the infamous true-life story of two NYPD police officers working for the mob. Names are changed for the movie and creative license applied to areas of Kosta Kondilopoulos’ screenplay, but anyone familiar with the case of Stephen Caracappa and Louis Eppolito recognizes the familiar beats. How can you not since dirty cops have become the basis of every crime drama for the past 25 years?! In the film, Abeckaser’s character, Detective Tim Delgado, chases after the necessary evidence to put away Sammy Canzano (David Arquette) and Leo Bennetti (Jeremy Luke). The timeline jumps between two time periods as Delgado uncovers further secrets by flipping Canzano and Bennetti’s incarcerated boss Galiano (Joseph Russo) and the past where Canzano and Bennetti commit their crimes for Galiano and his crew and rise up the ranks. The film plays out like any typical crime...

Image
David Arquette and Jeremy Luke are a pair of cops on the take in the new crime thriller Mob Cops. They're on the hunt to make a deal with a mobster in a new Collider-exclusive sneak peek. from the film. Mob Cops will be released in theaters, on digital, and on video on demand on April 25, 2025. In the clip, NYPD officers Sammy Canzano and Leo Benetti are having a sit-down with the mob boss who paid them off to get an address for some nefarious purpose.

Despite the mobster's bluster, Sammy and Leo are defiant: they want more than he's prepared to give them. Unsurprisingly, he's not happy. He's even more incensed when they demand to be put on the payroll. They want $4000 a month for what he's asking from them...and anything more will cost extra. Will they get what they're asking for, or are they about to take...

The Crime Lifestyle In Martin Scorsese's Goodfellas Is A Perfect Depiction Despite An Expert Calling Out 1 Casting Choice That Upset His Father
Image
Martin Scorsese's Goodfellas depicts the crime lifestyle perfectly, despite an expert calling out one casting choice that upset his father. The legendary director has explored the mob milieu many times over his illustrious career, starring in 1973 with his third movie, Mean Streets, which was also Scorsese's first of several collaborations with Robert De Niro. Though Mean Streets is considered by many to be one of the greatest gangster movies ever made, Scorsese's Mafia magnum opus might be Goodfellas, which is widely regarded as one of the greatest movies ever made.

Over the years, Scorsese has explored many aspects of the Mafia and gangster lifestyle in Raging Bull, Casino, and Gangs of New York. However, it was his exploration of the Irish Mob in Boston, The Departed, that won Best Picture and earned Scorsese his only Academy Award for Best Director. More recently, Scorsese made The Irishman, what many...

Patricia Arquette Says "Terrifying" Lost Highway Nude Scenes Were Made Worse By "Gross" Crew Members
Image
Patricia Arquette faced challenges filming nude scenes due to crew behavior, but David Lynch supported her once he knew. Comfort during intimate scenes is crucial, and the actress recalled needing to speak up multiple times for boundaries. Intimacy coordinators are now recommended on sets to ensure safety and professionalism during nude and sex scenes.

Patricia Arquette has recalled the “terrifying” time she had filming nude scenes for David Lynch’s Lost Highway due to the behavior of certain crew members. However, as the actress revealed during an appearance at the Series Mania Festival in Lille, France, Lynch was quick to step in once he became aware of the problem.

Terence Winter Developing Mafia Cops True Crime Series With Asterlight
Image
Exclusive: Boardwalk Empire creator Terence Winter has teamed with Asterlight, a San Francisco-based independent production company, to develop a true crime limited series based on the 2003 book Friends of the Family: The Inside Story of the Mafia Cops Case, by former NYPD Detective Tommy Dades, former Brooklyn prosecutor Mike Vecchione and David Fisher.

The book chronicles the true story of Stephen Caracappa and Louis Eppolito, two decorated NYPD police detectives who secretly worked on behalf of the New York mafia, principally the Lucchese and Gambino crime families, while committing serious crimes including racketeering, bribery, kidnapping and murder.

The story made national headlines when it was exposed that Caracappa and Eppolito received thousands in monthly payoff money in exchange for confidential information on police informants and investigations, in addition to serving as mob assassins. The infamous duo became known as the “Mafia Cops” and were convicted in 2006 of eight contract murders,...

Robocop Director to Take on The Brotherhood Crime Thriller
The director of the Robocop remake, Jose Padilha, is setting up his next film project at Warner Bros., a crime thriller called The Brotherhood. The film will be an adaptation of the book The Brotherhoods: The True Story of Two Cops Who Murdered for the Mafia, which was written by Guy Lawson and William Oldham.

The story "centers on two corrupt detectives, one working surreptitiously for the Luchese crime family, the other for the Gambino family. For years the men threw cases, scrapped evidence and even killed. Oldham is the third point in the story, a detective who spent more than seven years tracking the men, eventually bringing them to justice in a sensational trial."

This could be an incredible project for the Brazilian filmmaker, who got his big break making the gritty crime films Elite Squad and Elite Squad 2. Here's a more detailed description of the story from the...

Robocop Director Jose Padilha to Helm Warner Bros. Thriller The Brotherhood
Director Jose Padilha is heading back into the crime thriller world. The filmmaker first broke onto the scene with his Brazilian crime pics Elite Squad and Elite Squad: The Enemy Within before landing the directing gig on MGM’s RoboCop remake, and now Heat Vision reports that he is next set to direct the true crime thriller The Brotherhood for Warner Bros. The pic is an adaptation of Guy Lawson and William Oldham’s book The Brotherhoods: The True Story of Two Cops Who Murdered for the Mafia and centers on two corrupt detectives who secretly worked for two crime families for years while throwing cases, scrapping evidence, and even killing for the mob. Oldham—another detective—eventually brought the two to justice after tracking them for nearly a decade. The story most definitely has a Departed feel to it, and should make for a rather intriguing crime drama. Dan Lin...

David Ayer at an event for Bright (2017)
David Ayer has signed on to rewrite and direct Mafia Cop for Universal Pictures. Mandalay Pictures' David Zelon is producing. The true-life story, which has been called one of the worst police corruption scandals in New York history, centers on Louis Eppolito, a highly decorated cop who was found guilty, along with Stephen Caracappa, of participating in eight murders, two attempted murders, one murder conspiracy, money laundering, obstruction of justice and drug distribution. Eppolito and Caracappa were arrested in 2005 after retiring from police work. Before his arrest, Eppolito tried his hand in acting and screenwriting and had the part of Fat Andy in Goodfellas.
