Weirdest Characters in the Fairy Tail Anime
Image
While it was on the air, Fairy Tail became one of the biggest shoneen anime series. Though it never competed with any of the Big 3, it earned a spot in the tier below them, mostly for its cool, yet quirky characters. It was easy for viewers to find a character they identified with, and even a good ship pairing they liked.

That said, while there were plenty of cool characters, Hiro Mashima also created a number of weird characters to populate his world. Having either weird designs, weird powers, or both, these characters made the series just as much as the main characters did. Any true fan of the series will recognize even the most obscure characters, often because they were so cartoonish they were hard to forget.

Anime Healers Who Heal Better Than Joohee
Image
Solo Leveling is an exciting new anime series making its debut in Winter 2024, and it already promises to be a standout anime among several new titles in the Winter season. Solo Leveling is a fantasy action series starring Sung Jinwoo, an E-rank hunter who will eventually embark on a solo adventure to power up as a budding hero. Until then, Jinwoo relies on the support of stronger hunters to survive, including his tsundere friend Joohee, a dedicated healer.

Joohee is a B-rank hunter who often worries about the reckless Jinwoo, and she fears that her healing powers might not be enough to save Jinwoo's life one of these days. Still, Joohee does her best to patch up Jinwoo's wounds, and she can even staunch the bleeding from a severed leg. Joohee clearly knows what she's doing, but the broader anime world is home to even more talented healers who can easily erase injuries,...

New Upstream Color Trailer
Primer (2004)
The Sundance Film Festival starts this week (we’ve just finished weatherising our Damon Wise for the event; think the rebel base on Hoth if you need a visual) but already one of the most anticipated movies is Primer director Shane Carruth’s first film in nearly a decade, Upstream Color. In advance of the premiere, Carruth and co have put out a new trailer, available over at Apple. While most of the details are being kept under wraps for now, the basic synopsis of the movie reads thusly: “A man and woman are drawn together, entangled in the lifecycle of an ageless organism. Identity becomes an illusion as they struggle to assemble the loose fragments of wrecked lives.”Beyond that, all we have is a cast list, with Carruth appearing alongside Andrew Sensenig, Brina Palencia, Amy Seimetz, Juli Erickson, Frank Mosley and Mollie Milligan. It’s refreshing to see...

Top 100 Most Anticipated Films of 2013: #49. Shane Carruth’s Upstream Color
Upstream Color

Director/Writer: Shane Carruth

Producer(s): Carruth, Casey Gooden, Ben LeClair

U.S. Distributor: Rights Available

Cast: Andrew Sensenig, Shane Carruth, Brina Palencia, Amy Seimetz, Juli Erickson, Mollie Milligan, Frank Mosley

I like to think that I’m on track with every indie film development there possibly is – especially Sundance alumni. But somehow the filmmaker who gave us Primer wasn’t as dormant as I thought he was. Upstream Color sees Shane Carruth oversee all aspects of his film: write, direct, act, compose the score, edit, and is also the dp and was a camera operator as well. By the looks of the media that has been released on this indie project – it looks glossy in the best kind of manner possible. The most anticipated film title at the fest this year (alongside a certain Linklater film) also stars the hardest working actress in the biz: Amy Seimetz.

Primer (2004)
Upsteam Color Trailer Arrives
Primer (2004)
When some young, fresh and original directors garner attention for their first film, it can lead to the Hollywood lure of big names, bigger budgets, and more generic work. But on the evidence of this trailer for Primer director Shane Carruth’s Upstream Color, he’s sticking with the complex, thoughtful and atmospheric tone. Take a look above.Very little is known about the film, which features Carruth acting once again, this time alongside Andrew Sensenig, Brina Palencia, Amy Seimetz, Juli Erickson, Frank Mosley and Mollie Milligan. It will screen at the Sundance Festival in January, and so far all that has really been released besides some stills is this rough synopsis: “A man and woman are drawn together, entangled in the lifecycle of an ageless organism. Identity becomes an illusion as they struggle to assemble the loose fragments of wrecked lives.” So... Yes. He certainly has us interested.But...

Universal Soldier is being made into TV Show
Universal Soldier is being rebooted, remade into a TV Show. The Universal Soldier TV series is being penned by Damian Kindler and is being brought to the small screen by Fremantle Media. Allen Shapiro and Craig Baumgarten, both of whom produced the original 1992 Universal Soldier film – directed by Roland Emmerich - will executive produce the TV series.

I found this story strange since John Hyams is currently making Universal Soldier: A New Dimension with Jean-Claude Van Damme, Dolph Lundgren, Scott Adkins, Rus Blackwell, Mariah Bonner, Audrey P. Scott, David Jensen, Adam Sibley, James DuMont, Roy Jones Jr., Christopher Severio, Juli Erickson, and David Lee Valle. The film has not even been released yet. I thought Michael Jai White was starring in the film as well, reported here: Universal Soldier: A New Dimension: Michael Jai White joins Damme, Lundgren, but a quick check of his IMDb page and the Universal Soldier: A New Dimension...

Diff 2010 Video Interview: Actors Juli Erickson and Gabriel Horn (Carried Away)
Actors Juli (no “e”!) Erickson and Gabriel Horn were an absolute delight to speak with. Both come from very different generations of acting (and life), but their chemistry meshes so well it shows both on-screen and off. They’re currently at the Dallas International Film Festival with writer/director Tom Huckabee promoting their film, Carried Away. In the movie, aspiring actor Ed Franklin (Gabriel Horn) comes home for Christmas to visit his family who all are, let’s say, crazy. None of them get along and when he finds out his granny (the very funny Juli Erickson) has been put in a nursing home, he breaks her out and together they embark on a hilarious road trip.
