Another member of the Reagan family is shipping up to Boston to join Donnie Wahlberg's new show, if only for a short while. Bridget Moynahan has officially signed on to reprise her role as Erin Reagan in the premiere episode of Boston Blue, making her the first Blue Bloods veteran confirmed to be returning for the spin-off. Wahlberg confirmed the news himself on Instagram, sharing a photo of himself and Moynahan together on the Toronto-based set. In addition to helping ease viewers into the new show when it begins on October 17, she's also slated to direct an episode of the CBS series sometime in its first season.

The Reagan family rides again, just in a very different way from how they used to. What was once a network television hit has moved its beloved status over to streaming, as FlixPatrol reveals that Blue Bloods has risen to the top of Paramount+’s Top 10. Right now, the Tom Selleck-led procedural finds itself sky-high in the platform’s rankings, clocking in at the fourth spot, wedged directly in between Yellowstone and MobLand. The CBS crime drama is a hit in more than 20 countries, including Peru, Germany, France, and the United States, and we’ve got a funny feeling that it has something to do with the impending arrival of its highly anticipated offshoot, Boston Blue.

It’s no secret that “Yellowstone” is one of those once-in-a-decade types of shows that has everyone talking around the virtual water coolers. And while fans said goodbye to the flagship series last year, “Yellowstone” has created an itch in viewers that just needs to be scratched now, and we can do that via similar type shows.
And sure, we could suggest other super popular series like “Ozark” and “Succession” that also include messy families involved with shady dealings, but odds are you’ve seen them already. And if not, you definitely should whether you like “Yellowstone” or not. These are just the facts. We could also recommend the two “Yellowstone” prequel series “1884” and “1923,” but that’s kind of a given if you’re already a fan of the original. But speaking of, fans who prefer those two offerings over the present day story will not be disappointed with this list either.

It’s been almost six months since Blue Bloods aired its series finale, but fans still aren’t quite ready to say goodbye to the hit procedural show. Blue Bloods was canceled after its 14th season on CBS, and although fans still have the spin-off series, Boston Blue, to look forward to, it undoubtedly won’t be the same. However, to prepare for Boston Blue, it seems fans have begun rewatching the original Blue Bloods series, which has helped it jump back into the Paramount+ top 10, sitting at #10 at the time of writing. It’s not common for shows that have been off the air as long as Blue Bloods to find streaming success, so this is a testament to the dedicated fan base the show has. It first aired in 2010.

During its 14-season run, Blue Bloods remained a procedural a bit different from the others. Yes, it focused on the weekly cases worked by the NYPD, but at its very core, it was a show about family. The CBS series followed Tom Selleck’s Frank Reagan, who is carrying on the long-running tradition of holding a position in law enforcement — a career trajectory that his children Danny (Donnie Wahlberg), Jamie (Will Estes), and Erin (Bridget Moynahan) have also pursued. After the well-performing title received the axe last year, it was announced that Frank’s eldest son, Wahlberg’s Danny, would receive his own spin-off titled Boston Blue.
Since its very first reveal, fans have wondered who — if any — familiar faces might cross over to meet up with Danny on his next adventure. While speaking with Fox News Digital, Wahlberg gave an incredibly promising update for those hoping for a Reagan family reunion down the line.

Blue Bloods was once a dominant show on CBS, and its recent ending came as a surprise and a disappointment. The show could have lasted for many more years given its popularity. Unfortunately, it was not meant to be. The series ended with the family coming together for one last family dinner. It seemingly brought every major storyline to a close, making for a touching conclusion to a beloved show. While it was disappointing to see it go so soon, the ending was a perfect finale after so many years of crime fighting and family drama.
That was not exactly how the ending went, however. After that touching conclusion, CBS waited a few weeks before it announced a spin-off, led by Donnie Wahlberg's Detective Danny Reagan. The decision casts the entire ending in doubt,...

Blue Bloods ended in December after 14 seasons and 292 episodes, but CBS is already preparing a spinoff series. The network has given Boston Blue a straight-to-series order, with Donnie Wahlberg returning as Danny Reagan.
CBS is calling this spinoff a “universe expansion” of Blue Bloods. The new series will premiere in the 2025-26 season and will “follow Danny as he leaves New York and takes a position with the Boston police — where he’s partnered with Detective Lena Peters, the daughter of a prominent law enforcement family in the city.” Boston Blue comes from a different creative team, with Brandon Sonnier and Brandon Margolis serving as showrunners. The pair will also executive produce alongside Jerry Bruckheimer, KristieAnne Reed, and Donnie Wahlberg.

Blue Bloodsis officially back. Well, sort of. The acclaimed CBS series ended its 14-season run during the last month of 2024, much to the disappointment of its dedicated fanbase. Despite being a ratings hit for the network, the long-running series proved to be too expensive to keep going, especially with its stacked cast, led by Tom Selleck. However, fans can rejoice, as Blue Bloods will be returning in the form of a spin-off series featuring a beloved character from the original show.
Deadline reports that a Donnie Wahlberg-led series, following his character, Danny Reagan, is in the works at CBS, titledBoston Blue. A very promising sign of confidence from the network, the project has already been given a straight-to-series order. Details are scarce, but the upcoming spin-off will feature Danny in a new city, moving to a police precinct in Boston, Massachusetts, instead of New York City. Warning! This article contains Spoilers for Blue Bloods season 14, episode 18, "End of Tour."
Blue Bloods wrapped up its historic 14-year run with season 14, episode 18, entitled "End of Tour," but the finale also set up several spinoff ideas. Although a Blue Bloods spinoff has supposedly been in development since the news that the flagship series was canceled, neither CBS nor Paramount has offered a specific idea or put a show on the schedule yet. This makes Blue Bloods' disappointing cancelation even harder to bear, as there is not even a related series to look forward to yet.

Any series finale for a long-time show can provide mixed emotions from fans. Some are happy with the way things end, but if there are any questions left unanswered, viewers can often feel disappointed.
The situation with Blue Bloods and the police drama ending has been sticky for a while now. Star Tom Selleck has been a major advocate for the show continuing as the “third-highest” scripted series on the network, and many fans had hoped that CBS would reverse its decision and keep the show on the air. As the final episode aired this past Friday, December 13 to mixed reviews, viewers are demanding a spin-off, now more than ever.

Warning! Spoilers ahead for Blue Bloods season 14, episode 18, "End of Tour."Blue Bloods season 14, episode 18, "End of Tour," quietly resolved Joe Hill's (Will Hochman) main storyline four years after introducing the character. Joe is one of Blue Bloods' best characters despite only joining the police and family drama at the end of season 10. He is the son of the late Joe Reagan but did not grow up with the family because his mother kept his connection to them to herself until he first became curious about his father as an adult.
The death of Blue Bloods' Joe Reagan has always cast a shadow over the family, and his son's introduction initially made things worse. Joe Hill is a constant reminder that his father is gone; additionally, he is headstrong and impulsive on the job, which sometimes causes trouble for Danny (Donnie Wahlberg) and Jamie (Will Estes). Warning! Spoilers ahead for Blue Bloods season 14, episode 18, "End of Tour."In many respects, Blue Bloods season 14, episode 18, "End of Tour," was the perfect wrap-up for the Reagan family. There are many reasons to be disappointed by Blue Bloods' cancelation, especially considering how popular the police and family drama is after 14 seasons. After a massive fan-led effort to save Blue Bloods failed, the best that could be hoped for was a strong series finale, but it wasn't clear that would happen.
Most episodes of Blue Bloods' final season did little to move toward a definitive conclusion, so there were some fears that the wrap-up would be less than satisfying. If little to none of the most popular items on the Blue Bloods series finale wishlist took place, that would have been even more heartbreaking than CBS' decision to cancel the fan-favorite procedural. Warning! Spoilers ahead for the Blue Bloods series finale.Blue Bloods showrunner Kevin Wade explains why the final episode didn’t kill any Reagans. The CBS procedural explores the dynamics of New York Police Commissioner Frank Reagan (Tom Selleck) and his family, who work for the NYPD and Da Office. Along with Selleck, the cast of Blue Bloods includes Bridget Moynahan, Will Estes, Len Cariou, Vanessa Ray, and Donnie Wahlberg. Surprisingly, when the series concluded on December 13, Frank and his family were spared, despite uncertainty regarding any future projects. However, the season 14 finale did see Luis Badillo (Ian Quinlan) die from a gunshot wound.
During a recent interview with TV Insider, Wade explained why the Reagan family survived Blue Bloods. An emotional death was part of the plan for season 14, but as he revealed, killing Frank, Danny (Wahlberg) or any other Reagan would not have benefited the series. When it came to choosing Luis,...

Tom Selleck looked back at 14 years of Blue Bloods and the relationships formed between the cast. He said they wouldn't have been as close-knit if they didn't film a dinner scene for every episode.
Blue Bloods created one of TV's most iconic families in the Reagans; their onscreen chemistry was palpable. Tom Selleck confirmed they formed familial bonds behind the scenes, and the care also went out to the crew and the rest of the cast. He said this happened naturally over the years, a cumulative effect of 14 years spent on set. When asked about his favorite memory of the show, he told Entertainment Weekly it's a million moments of experiences. "I think it was just really the continuity," he asserted. "I know that doesn't fit in a little box, but it wasn't like a light bulb went off one day and I said, oh, this is the best moment.

“I’m handing you the keys,” a wounded New York Mayor Peter Chase (Dylan Walsh) says to NYPD Commissioner Frank Reagan (Tom Selleck) in the Blue Bloods series finale tonight as murderous gangs rage on the streets killing police, judges, and anyone else who gets in their way. “Get us out of this,” the often cunning politician tells the top cop he has so often clashed with over the long running CBS drama’s run.
“Tom Selleck’s character, Frank Reagan, had spent 14 years arguing with his boss, and there was an opportunity there for him to finally serve his boss in a way that also was true to his character,” explains Blue Bloods longtime showrunner Kevin Wade of the importance of the scene in “End of Tour,” the 293rd episode...

From the moment it premiered Sept. 24, 2010, and throughout its 14 seasons on CBS, “Blue Bloods” distinguished itself as more family drama than police procedural. Its series finale, which aired Friday, stayed true to that concept by honing in on a heightened case for the cop family involving a notorious gang leader joining forces with other gangs to orchestrate violent hits around the city in a play for amnesty, rather than a grandiose send-off or flashback-driven series reflection.
Eddie Janko-Reagan’’s (Vanessa Ray) partner Luis Badillo (Ian Quinlan) was killed in an ambush, making the case personal for the entire Reagan clan, including her husband Jamie’s nephew Joe. Even from a hospital bed, Eddie refused to back down from the case. Because the Mayor was also shot, Frank (Tom Selleck) was even more tied to the case professionally. And of course, there is a personal tie for Danny (Donnie Wahlberg) because there almost always is.

[This story contains spoilers for the series finale of Blue Bloods on CBS, titled “End of Tour.”]
Of course it had to end around the dinner table.
Blue Bloods has been a remarkably consistent show over its 14 seasons on CBS — the core cast has remained intact throughout, and a number of the show’s writers and producers have been there for all or nearly all of the run as well. On screen, scenes of the Reagans gathering for a meal have been a constant, and closing out the series without a family dinner scene would have been unthinkable.
Blue Bloods ends after 293 episodes, even if most of its cast would have been happy to continue making the show. Tom Selleck, Donnie Wahlberg and others have said as much in recent interviews, and the show is bowing out as a still reliable draw for CBS. The final episode feels like a season finale, but as a series ender, it’s...

Blue Bloods' series finale is an emotional event for the cast and their long-time fans. Donnie Wahlberg assures audiences the episode will be bittersweet for audiences, knowing it's the Reagan family's last get-together.
Donnie Wahlberg admitted he was already emotional before they filmed the last dinner scene for Blue Bloods. The show's most endearing moments happened during the Reagan family dinners, which have since become the anticipated scene of every episode. Now that Blue Bloods is about to end, Wahlberg said their last ensemble scene was heartbreaking for everyone. "I didn't make it through; I was doomed," he told Variety. "But when Tom [Selleck] started saying it, literally, my life passed before my eyes." Wahlberg confirmed that Selleck was the first to break the heavy silence when that scene wrapped up.

Tom Selleck and Donnie Wahlberg recall their pilot episode as Blue Bloods ends its 14-year run. The series would have gone the way of other procedurals if Selleck hadn't held his ground.
Donnie Wahlberg confirmed Blue Bloods wasn't conceived as a family-centered police drama. The show would have been a straightforward procedural but Tom Selleck insisted on his vision. "The show could have gone in multiple directions after it was picked up, and Tom was like, 'Listen. It's about family first,'" Wahlberg told Variety. "They had this big set design with a computer, and Tom was going to stand in front of the computer and overlord over New York. And he was like, 'That's ridiculous!'" Blue Bloods' recurring scene supposedly involved Selleck's character Frank Reagan manning a command center, orchestrating the NYPD's operations at every turn.

After 293 episodes, is the Reagan family really saying goodbye? Well, not if the cast of “Blue Bloods” could help it.
Ever since the news broke that Season 14 of the police drama would be its last, Tom Selleck, Donnie Wahlberg and more members of the cast have been vocal about wanting to continue.
But before we get to the end, let’s start at the beginning.
In 2010, CBS almost passed on the police drama. “They did 10 pilots that year and it was the last one they picked up, but also the highest testing one they did,” Selleck recalls, sitting across from Wahlberg for our interview. A large reason he believes it was greenlit — legendary producer Leonard Goldberg.
“Tom and Leonard were two titans in television. Sorry to embarrass you, Dad,” Wahlberg adds, looking at Selleck, who has played his father Commissioner Frank Reagan on all 14 seasons. “I think their reputations, talent...

Warning: Spoilers ahead for Blue Bloods season 14, episode 17, "Entitlement."Blue Bloods season 14, episode 17, "Entitlement," offered a surprise twist for Erin (Bridget Moynahan) that gave audiences a reason to worry about how the long-running police procedural will conclude other storylines. Over the past 14 years, Erin has had a tumultuous relationship with her ex-husband, Jack Boyle (Peter Hermann), and there has been widespread speculation that they would reconcile in the finale. While the fate of most Blue Bloods characters is still unknown, Erin gets her happy ending in "Entitlement," as she and Jack walk arm in arm while discussing how well things are going between them.

Season 14 of Blue Bloods is currently exploring the dynamic of Joe Hill (Will Hochman) within the prestigious Reagan family as the long-lost son of the slain family member, Joseph Reagan. The Season 14 episode "Life Sentence" explores Joe Hill and Jamie Reagan's (Will Estes) relationship, and the recent episode "No Good Deed" examines the dynamic between Joe and Danny Reagan (Donnie Wahlberg) as they work on a case investigating the murder of a bike delivery rider. This ultimately culminates in one of the season's best episodes, where Danny and Joe get on the same page and become a formidable team. Joe also learns an important lesson about valuing the lives of witnesses and those who jeopardize their safety by voluntarily offering information to the New York Police Department. It's time to showcase how this episode possibly sets up the fate of Joe Hill with Blue Bloods as the long-running hit series nears its emotional series finale!
