The Simpsons Will Spoof The Godfather II to Explore One Character's Dark Backstory
Image
The Simpsons has been airing new episodes since 1989, but there are still some longtime characters on the animated series who still have secrets not yet known by the fans. One upcoming episode will help viewers learn more about a certain sleazy politician, revealing how he also has some dark secrets from his past in addition to his ongoing womanizing.

Series showrunner Matt Selman recently discussed the episode during an interview on the podcast That Shelf (via ComicBook). He shared that more will be explored from the past of Mayor Joe Quimby, someone who's never been known for his moral integrity, but it could be worse than fans expected. Selman teased that the new episode would spoof The Godfather Part II while diving into Quimby's past, and it involves a death by sandwich.

“The Godfather tropes are so cliché," he said. "Having said that, we have a giant Godfather II...

The Karate Kid – The Legend! The Legacy!
Image
The ’80s were a heyday for the underdog. Whether the arena was the corporate workplace or the hormone hurricane of high school, bullies and their respective comeuppances were ubiquitous in the decade’s cinematic offerings. 1984’s The Karate Kid was one of the most popular David vs. Goliath offerings on the big screen, and its legacy goes way beyond fly-hunting with chopsticks, or beachfront training montages, or its litany of catchphrases. Through sequels, reboots and small screen re-invention, the legend of The Karate Kid spans decades, and continues to inspire and delight each new generation as they meet life’s great challenges.

So, given that the first four films have been given a splendid Blu-ray release (as well as the release of Cobra Kai on DVD) and in anticipation of the forthcoming shared universe blockbuster Karate Kid: Legends and the advent of our current giveaway for The Karate Kid on 4K Uhd,...

When Timothée Chalamet Secretly Wore An Earpiece In Call Me By Your Name’s Final Scene
Image
Did Timothée Chalamet wear an earpiece in Call Me By Your Name’s last scene? (Photo Credit – YouTube)

Timothée Chalamet actually wore a hidden earpiece during the now-iconic fireplace moment. And what was playing in his ear? The same track that crushed audiences on cue: Visions of Gideon by Sufjan Stevens.

Yep, while Elio sat in front of that fireplace, quietly mourning a love that slipped away, Chalamet was feeding off the exact same emotions as viewers – live. The music wasn’t added in post-production for dramatic effect. He felt it in real time. Talk about syncing your soul with the scene.

The revelation came straight from Chalamet himself in the film’s DVD commentary. According to BuzzFeed’s “Bizarre Movie Facts” roundup, Chalamet confirmed that he “actually wore a wireless earpiece with Visions of Gideon synced up with the film so that Elio could portray complimentary emotions to the tone of the song.

Cobra Kai Season 6 Part 3 Gives Johnny Lawrence His Own Karate Kid Moment
Image
This post contains major spoilers for the series finale of "Cobra Kai."

From the very beginning, it was clear that "Cobra Kai" was Johnny Lawrence's story. Sure, Daniel Larusso was a big part of the show, and he wrestled with the legacy of Mr. Miyagi over the course of it, but Johnny had so much more to do throughout the series' six seasons. He learned to grow from his mistakes, and had to fight to redeem both his dojo and himself.

It wasn't easy, of course. As much as Johnny Lawrence had good intentions, his prejudices and teaching still impacted his worldview and values. Plus there was that whole thing with Kreese, then Silver, the franchise's big bad, stealing the Cobra Kai dojo from Johnny. There were also a whole bunch of fights with Daniel Larusso that threatened to ruin his relationship with his kid as well as his business.

Cobra Kai's Ralph Macchio Had One Condition For His Most Shocking Moment
Image
The following contains spoilers for the entire final season of "Cobra Kai."

"Cobra Kai" Season 6 Part 3 is full of moments straight out of most "Karate Kid" enthusiasts' dreams. For six years, the show has done fan service the right way, using it to say something about its characters, the past, and the present. When the first season essentially redid the original plot of "The Karate Kid" but with Miguel Diaz (Xolo Maridueña) turning to the dark side and purposely using a dirty trick to win, it was to show Johnny Lawrence (William Zabka) realizing the dangers of passing along the more aggressive aspects of the Cobra Kai teachings.

This continues all the way to the final episodes of Season 6, which are some of the best episodes in the entire show. We see themes and character arcs come full circle, hard-won victories achieved, and plenty of shocking moments. Arguably, though, one...

Cobra Kai Season 6, Part 3 Review: A Perfect Ending for Karate Kid Fans
Image
The following contains major spoilers from Cobra Kai Season 6, Part 3, now streaming on Netflix.

Cobra Kai Season 6, Part 3 is both the perfect series finale and the anti-series finale. The last five episodes of the hit Netflix original series are everything that viewers could possibly want after six years, but how the creative team accomplishes that flies in the face of what audiences are trained to expect from finales. What viewers get is something that's uniquely Cobra Kai -- exactly as it should be.

The final batch of episodes continues the ongoing storyline of the Sekai Taikai tournament, and brings it to the only true conclusion. Meanwhile, the show circles back around to its Karate Kid movie origins one last time. Season 6, Part 3 is very much a reflection of the characters at its core: brash but inspiring, fun and emotional.

Cobra Kai Season 6 Part 3 Trailer Returns To A Legendary Karate Kid Location
Image
This is it: the end of the "Karate Kid" saga as we know it. Sure, there's the upcoming "Karate Kid: Legends" movie that connects the original "Karate Kid" films with the 2010 reboot, but so far that feels only superficially linked and more like the start of something new. Instead, the first proper trailer for Part 3 of "Cobra Kai" Season 6 makes it clear this is the conclusion of the greater 40 year franchise so far -- and to celebrate, the show is going back to where it all started.

"Cobra Kai" is the little legacy sequel that could. The show defied all expectations about what a "Karate Kid" sequel series could be. It not only earned huge praise but also survived the death of a streaming platform to become one of Netflix's biggest shows. For six seasons, we have seen the show simultaneously introduce a new generation of karate kids that...

Why Karate Kid's Iconic Theme Song Doesn't Make Any Sense
Image
Movie songs used to be marketed based on film success, but "The Ballad of High Noon" changed that trend in 1951. "You're the Best" was actually written for Rocky III, not The Karate Kid, featuring lyrics that don't fit karate themes. Joe Esposito's persistence in pushing "You're the Best" for films like Flashdance and The Karate Kid led to its sports anthem status.

Movie Legend: The lyrics to the iconic theme song, "You're the Best," from The Karate Kid, don't make sense for The Karate Kid, because the song was written for a different movie.

The way that songs in films have been marketed has changed dramatically since the Golden Age of Hollywood. In the old days, you would write a song for a movie, and if the movie was a hit, then the song would typically become a hit, as well. Obviously, the song had to be good, as well,...

8 Karate Kid References We're Still Waiting For Ahead Of Cobra Kai Season 6
Image
Cobra Kai's nostalgia and new content blend has set it apart from other reboots, using subtle references and Easter eggs effectively. The series' shift in perspective to Johnny Lawrence has added depth to its characters and allowed for nuanced exploration of redemption arcs. While many classic Karate Kid moments have been covered, there are still some key elements from the franchise that fans hope to see in Cobra Kai season 6.

Cobra Kai is heading into its sixth and final season, but there are still some key moments from the Karate Kid franchise that we are hoping to see referenced before the story comes to a close. The Netflix series has done a great job bundling nostalgia up with new content, which is why it has succeeded where other nostaligic reboots have failed. References and Easter eggs are often tastefully subtle, which makes them all the more enjoyable to notice and enjoy.

What Happened To Priscilla Presley After The Movie & Divorcing Elvis
Image
The upcoming film "Priscilla" focuses on Elvis Presley's ex-wife, Priscilla Presley, and is based on her memoir "Elvis and Me." Priscilla and Elvis were married for six years before they separated in 1972 and officially divorced in 1973. Priscilla Presley has had a successful acting career after her divorce from Elvis and is most known for her role in the TV series "Dallas."

Numerous biographical films depict the life of Elvis Presley, but Priscilla shifts its focus to his ex-wife, Priscilla Presley (née Beaulieu). The 2023 drama, which premieres in theaters everywhere on November 3, is based on Priscilla's 1985 memoir Elvis and Me, and Priscilla herself was very involved in the making of the movie. So, it might be safe to assume that the film will be an as-close-as-possible depiction of Priscilla's life with the King of Rock and Roll. But her story was truly just beginning after she separated from Elvis.

1 Karate Kid Song Was Originally Written For Rocky 3 (& Replaced By The Franchise's Biggest Hit)
Image
"You're The Best" by Joe Esposito was originally written for Rocky III but ended up being the perfect fit for The Karate Kid. "Eye Of The Tiger" by Scorpions was chosen for Rocky III instead of "You're The Best" and became a huge hit associated with the franchise. The song "Glory of Love" by Peter Cetera, originally rejected for Rocky IV, became a hit for The Karate Kid 2 instead.

One song from The Karate Kid was originally written for Rocky III, but it was replaced by the boxing franchise's biggest hit. Rocky III debuted in 1982 and saw a slightly more weary Italian Stallion (Sylvester Stallone) begrudgingly get in the ring with the younger, more antagonistic Clubber Yang (Mr. T) at the same time that his friend and mentor Mickey suffers a fatal heart attack. The Karate Kid, which would be released in 1984 and introduced the world to Ralph Macchio...

10 Greatest Movie Montages Of All Time, Ranked
Image
Montages in film are used to create the illusion of the passage of time, allowing filmmakers to cover weeks, months, and even years in a short amount of runtime. Montage is a cinematic technique that is inherently connected to cinematography and editing, existing purely in the medium of film. Montages are often used in sports movies to show the protagonist getting in shape before a big game or fight, creating a feeling of triumph and victory.

From the training montage in Rocky to the baptism massacre montage in The Godfather, there are plenty of iconic montages from film history. Pioneered by Sergei Eisenstein, the montage was initially designed as a way to create symbolism in a story, but its primary function in modern filmmaking is to create the illusion of the passage of time. Whether a boxer is training for a big fight or a gangster is rising through the ranks of the criminal underworld,...

The 10 Best Simpsons Characters Introduced After Season 1
Image
In its current 34th season, The Simpsons has introduced a bunch of new characters, like Jesse, a hunky parody of Peloton instructors, and a fourth-wall-breaking hacker voiced by guest star Anna Faris. From Krusty the Clown to Ralph Wiggum to Ned Flanders to Moe Szyslak, many fan-favorite Simpsons characters have been around since the very first season.

But some of the show’s most beloved characters, like Fat Tony, Troy McClure, Mayor Quimby, Groundskeeper Willie, and Comic Book Guy, didn’t join the ensemble until later seasons.

Mayor Quimby

The long-standing mayor of Springfield – Joseph Fitzgerald O’Malley Fitzpatrick O'Donnell The Edge Quimby, also known by his nickname “Diamond Joe” – made his first on-screen appearance in the season 2 premiere, “Bart Gets an ‘F’.” Quimby has somehow managed to stay in office for decades despite having all his corruption out in the open.

Quimby is a composite caricature of various members of the Kennedy family,...

Songs for Screens: Drake, Bruce Springsteen, Dolly Parton Lead Super Bowl Ads as Brands Lean Into Familiarity
Image
As expected, Bruce Springsteen’s rumored Jeep commercial was the big highlight of this year’s Super Bowl ad haul, with The Boss making his first-ever appearance in a commercial. His music, however, remains an advertising holdout, as Springsteen opted to compose an original score for the two-minute spot with frequent collaborator Ron Aniello rather than license one of his hits.

Still, Olivier Francois, chief marketing officer for Jeep’s parent company Stellantis, was thrilled to finally team up with his white whale of all celebrity cameos. “It took me ten years to get him in, but once he was in, he was all in,” he told Variety’s Brian Steinberg over the weekend.

Those looking for Sunday-night surprises had to make do with previously unannounced cameos by Drake (State Farm) and Gwen Stefani, Blake Shelton & Adam Levine (T-Mobile), as the vast majority of this year’s ads premiered several...

Elvis Presley Meets the Nashville Cats on a New Box Set, With Glorious Results
Image
For a few freewheeling days in June of 1970, Elvis Presley assembled some of Nashville’s best sessions players to jam in RCA Studio B on Music Row. Elvis chose the songs himself, everything from Simon & Garfunkel’s “Bridge Over Troubled Water” and Bob Wills’ “Faded Love” to Willie Nelson’s “Funny How Time Slips Away” and Eddie Rabbitt’s “Patch It Up.” The sessions were marathon affairs, and naturally the musicians — and Elvis — would get hungry.

Charlie McCoy, the multi-tool player who first recorded with Elvis on the soundtrack to 1965’s awful Harum Scarum,...

The Heartbreaking Way Priscilla Presley Found Out About Elvis's Death
Elvis Presley
It's been 40 years since we lost Elvis Presley, but Priscilla is keeping his memory alive. While speaking with Et on the anniversary of his death (Aug. 16), Priscilla reflected on the life she once shared with the rock and roll superstar. "A devastating time for myself, and of course, the world, to hear the news, and it's still unbelievable because he's so much a part of our lives - my life and my daughter's [Lisa Marie] life and everyone around him," she said. Priscilla was married to Elvis for six years before they officially divorced in 1973. When Elvis passed away in 1977, she found about about the heartbreaking news from his road manager, Joe Esposito. "My sister and I were going out for an appointment and she stopped me in my feet as I was picking her up . . . and Dad called and said Joe Esposito was trying to reach you and try to talk to you,...

Exclusive: Priscilla Presley Reflects on the 40th Anniversary of Elvis' Death: 'We Were Gifted to Have Him'
Priscilla Presley in The Naked Gun: From the Files of Police Squad! (1988)
Priscilla Presley is reflecting on the love of her life -- the late Elvis Presley -- on the 40th anniversary of his death.

Et talked to Priscilla on Wednesday at the late singer's famous estate -- Graceland in Memphis, Tennessee -- where she spoke candidly about how she got the devastating news of his death, her personal experiences with the icon and what his legacy is today. Not surprisingly, Priscilla says she's been thinking heavily about Elvis' death in recent days.

"I'm around so many fans coming in and doing some interviews, and it's a definite reminder of his passing, and of course, thinking about him at this particular time," Priscilla tells Et's Nischelle Turner. "A devastating time for myself and of course, the world, to hear the news, and it's still unbelievable because he's so much a part of our lives -- my life and my daughter's life and everyone around him. Elvis and Priscilla Presley’s 50th Wedding Anniversary: 10 Things You Didn’t Know About the Nuptials
George Clooney
He was one of the world’s most eligible bachelors, an insanely handsome music and film star whose engagement to a dark-haired non-celeb resulted in a stack of headlines and a pile of broken hearts. There’s a good chance that the news made your mom grab a box of Kleenex and excuse herself from the dinner table … and no, we’re not talking about George Clooney.

We’re drifting back to May 1, 1967 when Elvis Presley married 21-year-old Priscilla Ann Beaulieu. At that time, the 32-year-old King – still several years away from a rhinestone jumpsuit – was the world’s top-earning entertainer,...
