The 18-year-old brunette from Manchester beat Sophie Evans, 17, in the BBC talent search show to land the role of Dorothy in Andrew Lloyd Webber's new West End production of 'The Wizard of Oz'. Danielle Hope has scooped the title on BBC’s Over The Rainbow and won the role of Dorothy on a West End stage.

After Lauren Samuels was eliminated during the first of tonights live shows, the public’s final choice was between 17 year old Danielle and Welsh competitor Sophie Evans. After the pair performed their own renditions of ‘Somewhere Over The Rainbow’ and their favourite songs of the series, the result of the public vote was revealed.

On winning Danielle said: “I really, really don’t think a thank you is enough. For the amazing public and everyone who comes to support us every week and the girls. Thank you and it comes from [the heart] and we all [thank you] for this amazing opportunity.”

Over The Rainbow host, Graham Norton, believes tonight’s final is “a two horse race.”

Graham said of tonight’s show, “I think it’s between two. Sophie Evans and Danielle Hope are very young but they’re tough as old boots. It’s too close to call.”

Lauren Samuels remains in the running though, and Graham told The Sun that Andrew Lloyd Webber “loves all three contestants.”

He added, “I’ve never seen him [Andrew] more relaxed…

“It’s really down to the girls now. The stakes are high.

“Danielle is perhaps the most extraordinary young performer for her age I have ever worked with.”

Dorothy hopeful Sophie Evans has admitted that she doubted her own abilities at the start of Over The Rainbow. Evans, 17, said that she never expected to make it past the first audition because she considered all the other girls to be "much better". "I remember sitting in the first audition, looking around, and thinking, 'Everyone here is so much better than me'. But I just kept getting put through," she told Digital Spy. "Every time I got through, I couldn't believe it, because I genuinely didn't think that I was good enough. It's only now that I have really started to believe in myself because I've come this far." Britain’s Got Talent judge Amanda Holden has admitted that she is a big fan of BBC’s Over The Rainbow and revealed that she is backing Welsh singer Sophie Evans to win.

Despite her show overlapping with the Andrew Lloyd Webber extravaganza, Amanda is an avid fan of the search for the perfect West End Dorothy, she has even suggested that her dog could be the Toto that Lloyd Webber is looking for.

Outgoing Over The Rainbow contestant Steph Fearon has admitted that she is glad to have come so far in the show, considering that she was in the bottom two in week one.

Steph was voted off the semi final show last night, after finding herself in the bottom two alongside Lauren Samuels.

On his decision to send her home Andrew Lloyd Webber said:

“I just didn’t quite the connection with what you were doing acting wise. You’re a fantastic singer but I did believe Lauren a little bit more.”

After being eliminated Steph told The Sun:

“After being in the bottom two in week one I never in a million years dreamed that I would come this far. I’m really happy I did this well.”

Oh no! One of our favourite Dorothy’s has just been booted off the show!

18 year old Jenny Douglas found herself in the bottom two against Lauren Samuels and even then, we knew she had no chance of survival.

John Partridge earlier told Lauren that she had the best voice in the competition and the other judges enthused about her performance tonight. So when Jenny went up against her in tonight’s sing off, it was no surprise that Lord Andrew Lloyd Webber chose to send the Scottish lass home.

On hearing of her fate Jenny said:

Over The Rainbow hopeful Jenny Douglas was encouraged to pursue her singing career by her late grandfather and her grandmother has since revealed that her music loving husband, once encouraged Susan Boyle in much the same way.

Jenny is currently competing on the BBC reality TV show, for the chance to star in a west end production of The Wizard Of Oz and her grandmother Marloe thinks her grandad, George Stevenson, would have been very proud.

She told The News Of The World:

“George would have been blown away to see what’s happened with Susan – he always believed in her.

“And Jenny was the apple of his eye. He was so proud of her, he’d have been over the moon to see her perform on TV.”

Emilie’s West End dream is over as she becomes the fourth contestant to be eliminated from BBC’s Over the Rainbow.

After a public vote Emilie and Sophie were the least popular Dorothys and Andrew Lloyd Webber voted to save Sophie. So the public’s ‘Wildcard’ Dorothy Emilie Fleming is the fourth Dorothy to leave the competition.

In yesterday’s live show, all eight remaining Dorothy finalists performed solo renditions of pop songs to show viewers that they have the singing skill and sheer charisma to carry one of the most challenging roles in musical theatre.

Emilie gave a lacklustre rendition of ‘Girls Just Wanna Have Fun’ by Cyndi Lauper and managed to turn a fun a peppy pop number into a tuneless cheese fest.

Sophie had a great week last week but unfortunately I think she’s lost some of her edge tonight. This song is way out of her vocal range and as it progressed it turned into a bit of a car crash performance. Sophie in the bottom two tomorrow night? Quite possibly I would think!

Jessica Robinson sings ‘There You’ll Be’

I can see why the judges were so blown away by Jessica’s rendition of Rehab a few weeks ago. She has that edgy sort of look that makes her more suited to sassy rock tunes and even though she has a good singing voice, these slow ballads just don’t work for her at all….somehow she made tonight’s song sound very very bland and the big note she hit was the only good moment in it.

Jenny gave an effortless vocal tonight and I thought the track suited her voice surprisingly well. She also portrayed the emotion of the song brilliantly and looked perfectly gutted by the end of the song.

Emilie Fleming sings ‘Girls Just Wanna Have Fun’ by Cyndi Lauper

Emilie’s vocal always sounds so strained and her acting abilities are a bit over the top if you ask me. Tonight she managed to take quite a fun tune and turn it into a chessy mess of awfulness. There is a reason why the judges didn’t chose Emilie for their final 10…..she’s nowhere near good enough for this show!

Before one of the eight remaining contestants is eliminated, Welsh songstress Charlotte will take to the stage with them for a group number.

Sophie Evans, 17, told The Sun: “I’m flabbergasted that we’ll actually sing a full song with her.”

Jessica Robinson, 18, said: “It’s fab knowing we’ve got an opportunity to sing with Charlotte.”

On last week’s Over The Rainbow, Andrew Lloyd Webber and his panel of judges whittled down the Dorothy hopefuls to just 9. So far we have lost Amy Diamond and Bronte Barbe, we are hoping that wildcard Dorothy Emilie leaves this week, lets be honest, she never should have made to the live shows anyway!

The finalists open the show with a group performance of ‘Ease On Down The Road’ from the 1975 Broadway musical The Wiz. We are still waiting for the girls to attempt songs from Wicked…..or are they banned because this is a production of The Wizard Of Oz? Will there be deadly competition between both versions of Oz? Who knows.

On tonight’s Over The Rainbow Sophie Evans made a risky song choice and sang Beyonce’s If I Were A Boy. It’s a Huge song and we were worried at the start but she actually pulled it off. It wasn’t note perfect but her voice is just beautiful and she brought plenty of emotion to the piece. We like!

Jenny Douglas was the last Dorothy to sing (check out the video below) and she chose Pink’s So What? She gave it plenty of attitude and a really lively performance, but she doesn’t look remotely as crazed as Pink did in the video for this song. We actually had a minor debate her on the Unreality sofa about whether it should be sung in a half-crazed, bitter style or if she should be happy to be moving on? What has Sheila Hancock done to us?

On last week’s Over The Rainbow, Andrew Lloyd Webber and his panel of judges whittled down 20 Dorothy hopefuls to just 10. Tonight the public get to save one of last week’s rejects and see the final 11 perform.

Stephanie sings Pixie Lott’s Mama Do. They seem to be doing a lot of Pixie songs at the moment. Not that there are many, I suppose. Sassy vocals and she manages to look good in a yellow skirt.

She’s followed by Lauren, who sings Leona Lewis’ version of Run. We get a good look at her tonsils during this belter of a performance. Enjoyed her voice and how she tried to pump a bit of drama into it.

John: Both of these performances were leading lady performances. Stephanie – little miss Mama Do. I definitely do! And after that performance all the studio audience and everyone at home do as well.

In a tense and nerve-wracking final part of the audition process, Saturday night’s Over The Rainbow saw the final 20 potential Dorothys being put through their paces before Andrew Lloyd Webber and the panel – Sheila Hancock, Charlotte Church and John Partridge – who had to decide which contestants would make it into the final 10 and take a step closer to fulfilling their West End dreams.

Last night we saw the Over The Rainbow judges whittling down their group of hopefuls from thousands to just twenty. On tonight’s installment the panel will reduce the number to just ten and these girls will perform on the live shows starting next week.

As one of their tasks tonight, the girls get to work through a performance with five of the West End’s most well-respected leading ladies – Kelly Ellis (soon to replace Jodie Prenger as Nancy in Oliver!), Ruthie Henshall (currently appearing in Chicago), Sheridan Smith (Legally Blonde), Tamzin Outhwaite (Sweet Charity) and Melanie C (Blood Brothers) – to gain a valuable insight into the life and profession that awaits them when they reach the end of the yellow brick road.
