‘The Last Dance’ Post-Production Team on Finalizing the Docuseries Amid Coronavirus Pandemic
Image
ESPN’s “The Last Dance,” which reaches its climax May 17, focuses on Michael Jordan and the six-time NBA champion Chicago Bulls. In one sense, the show couldn’t come at a better time, filling the void caused by canceled live sporting events and delivering the exploits of a legend.

Production house Sim intended to assemble the hundreds of hours of footage of director Jason Hehir’s 10-part documentary series in much the same way as the Bulls fashioned their titles — all together, as a team.

“Many documentaries are edited in homes and apartments, with post facilities coming in at the end. This was not one of those projects,” says David Feldman, Sim’s senior vice president of film and television, East Coast.

When the coronavirus pandemic halted film and TV production, Sim was in the middle of its work. At the time the series premiered on April 19, most of the episodes were yet unfinished.

Exclusive: CBS is developing Repeat, a drama series executive produced by Masi Oka and Sabrina Wind, from ABC Studios.

Written and executive produced by David Hayter Repeat is based on the award-winning book of the same name by Kurumi Inui and the 2018 TV series, which aired on Yomiuri Television in Japan.

In Repeat, the opportunity to travel back 10 months to relive their pasts seems like an incredible gift to a group of strangers, giving them the chance to right wrongs, undo mistakes, and set their lives on a better path, but their new choices have unforeseen results as they unravel a larger conspiracy with deadly consequences.

The general idea, about stranger with supernatural abilities, is reminiscent of Oka’s NBC series Heroes where the powers of his character, fan favorite Hiro Nakamura, included traveling in time.

Trevante Rhodes, Ashton Sanders, and Alex R. Hibbert in Moonlight (2016)
Writers Guild Award Analysis: It’s Still ‘Moonlight’ and ‘Manchester’ At the Oscars
Trevante Rhodes, Ashton Sanders, and Alex R. Hibbert in Moonlight (2016)
The Writers Guild Awards and the Academy writing nominees always don’t line up; many films are ineligible. This year, those included Oscar-writing nominees “Lion” and “The Lobster.”

This year, the WGA and the Academy differed dramatically. While the WGA deemed “Moonlight” and “Loving” as Original Screenplays, the Academy considered both as Adapted; only “Moonlight” landed a nomination.

At the WGA, as at the BAFTAs, Barry Jenkins’ script for “Moonlight” competed for the Original Screenplay Award against both Kenneth Lonergan’s “Manchester by the Sea” and Damien Chazelle’s “La La Land.” Unlike the BAFTAs, Jenkins emerged the winner over Lonergan, a sign of strength for “Moonlight,” which is nominated for eight Oscars.

After their show's cancellation prompted a depraved downward spiral, Jack is back on the straight and narrow when Triumph finds his way back into his
