Westhampton Review: Finn Wittrock Shines in a Tale of Atonement
Image
The story of the artist returning home is a familiar one, often built on a foundation of either triumphant celebration or angsty self-discovery. Westhampton positions itself squarely in the latter category, presenting a filmmaker whose past isn’t just a source of inspiration but an open wound.

We meet Tom Bell, played by Finn Wittrock, a director whose career seems permanently tethered to the success of his first film. That film is a dramatization of a car accident from his adolescence, a moment that shattered his life in his small Long Island town.

His return is anything but victorious. He arrives for a local screening, an event that promises less adulation and more judgment from a community that remembers the real story. He is not a prodigal son but a pariah, treated with a mix of curiosity and contempt.

Adding to the pressure is the need to clear out his late parents’ home,...

‘Westhampton’ Review: Finn Wittrock’s Charisma Can’t Quite Save This Thin Character Study About a Filmmaker Reckoning With His Past
Image
Finn Wittrock is the main reason to watch writer-director Christian Nilsson’s Westhampton, a fairly stock character study about a man coming home to reckon with past mistakes.

Wittrock has enlivened several earlier films and television dramas, earning an Emmy nomination for his portrayal of one of serial killer Andrew Cunanan’s victims in the Ryan Murphy miniseries The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story, and another nomination for a season of Murphy’s American Horror Story. This charismatic actor holds the camera effortlessly, and it’s good to see him again in a leading role onscreen, even if the film turns out to be disappointingly thin.

Wittrock plays Tom Bell, a film director who returns to his hometown on Long Island to showcase his new movie, which is based on events from his youth, when he was responsible for an auto accident that impacted his community. It may...

‘Nobody Wants This’ Casting Team Used Clips of Adam Brody and Kristen Bell’s Past Projects: ‘Everyone Could See the Chemistry Right Away’
Image
Brett Greenstein and Collin Daniel of Greenstein/Daniel Casting are responsible for some of TV’s most joyous ensembles, from the Hulu comedy “Shrill” to Netflix’s “Never Have I Ever.” Stil, Daniel says that their latest project – the Netflix rom-com “Nobody Wants This” – is a new experience. “It’s the biggest hit show we’ve ever done, and it’s thrilling to see its worldwide success,” says Daniel.

Created by Erin Foster, the series stars Kristen Bell and Adam Brody as a seemingly mismatched couple – she’s an agnostic host of a sex podcast, he’s a Rabbi. Though the two share immediate chemistry, they have to overcome their differences and the skepticism of friends and family to navigate the new relationship. Much of the show hinges on the chemistry of the two leads, and Bell and Brody have worked together before in the films “Scream 4”, “CHiPs”, and...

‘Nobody Wants This’ Season 2 Premiere Date Set at Netflix
Image
After months of speculation, the Season 2 premiere date of Netflix's hit romantic comedy, Nobody Wants This, has been revealed. And it's exactly when we thought it might be — the streamer just waited for the Kristen Bell and Adam Brody-starring show to have its For Your Consideration moment in order to announce it officially. The show's executive producers and cast made the premiere date known on Sunday on stage at Netflix's Fysee Emmy event celebrating Season 1 in Los Angeles.

In news that was also revealed via press release (but we first saw in The Hollywood Reporter), Nobody Wants This will see its Season 2 premiere on October 23, 2025. It's an exciting development for fans of the series, which hit the streaming service in late 2024 but became an instant success thanks to its likable cast and fantastic writing. In a world that tends to under-serve and under-appreciate romantic comedies, Nobody Wants This is a gift.

‘Nobody Wants This’ Season 2 Netflix Premiere Date Revealed, Creator Promises ‘Romantic and Funny’ Outing
Image
Netflix know that a lot of somebodies want this. The second season of “Nobody Wants This” will premiere October 23. The show first dropped on the streamer last September to sparkling reviews, with IndieWire’s Proma Khosla praising the chemistry between leads Kristen Bell and Adam Brody.

The show, created by Erin Foster, finds Joanne and Noah (Brody) in a would-be conventional love story complicated by Noah’s position as a rabbi. Popular podcaster Joanne isn’t just not Jewish, she’s also unreligious generally — as is her entire non-traditional family. As Noah and Joanne attempt to acclimate to each other’s worlds, and Joanne explores converting, things get complicated — to put it lightly.

“Nobody Wants This” was renewed back in October, but the drop date was not revealed until the June 1 Netflix Fysee L.A. Emmy event at the Academy Museum in Los Angeles. The evening featured a screening of...

Adam Brody Teases “Repercussions” For Rabbi Noah In ‘Nobody Wants This’ Season 2 Following Move To Prioritize Love Over Work
Image
After debuting to critical and popular acclaim last September, Netflix’s rom-com series Nobody Wants This is getting very close to the start of production on Season 2. So what can star Adam Brody tease?

“Very little,” he admitted tonight, in conversation with Deadline on the SAG Awards red carpet. “I think repercussions from [Noah] choosing maybe love over work. He’s going to grapple with that. That’s about as much as I know, to be honest with you.”

Created by and exec produced by Erin Foster, Nobody Wants This explores the unconventional romance between Joanne, a candid agnostic podcaster portrayed by Kristen Bell, and Brody’s unconventional rabbi, Noah Roklov. Inspired by Foster’s relationship with husband Simon Tikhman, the show’s Season 1 finale saw Noah at a crossroads, as Joanne decided, after much contemplation, against converting to Judaism, in a move that leads to the couple’s breakup.

Such critical smashes as Succession, Ted Lasso, The Crown, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, Barry, and Reservation Dogs took their final bows in 2023, wrapping up the same year as twin strikes of the WGA and SAG. It consequently felt like the TV world was welcoming a group of fresh faces (along with a few acclaimed returnees) this year.

There may not have been as many out-of-the-gate hits in ’24 as there were in previous years, but there were nonetheless plenty of buzzworthy shows to celebrate, including an exceptional class of limited series — the hottest genre from an awards perspective.

Here is our ranking of the 15 best television/streaming programs of the year:

Nobody Wants This' Backlash & Stereotyping Criticisms Explained
Image
Warning: This article contains Spoilers for Nobody Wants This.

Netflixs Nobody Wants This has faced backlash and criticism for perpetuating certain Jewish stereotypes, raising questions about why some viewers and critics are upset. Since its release, the Netflix show has skyrocketed in popularity, becoming a global hit with an impressive 95% score on Rotten Tomatoes. The Adam Brody and Kristen Bell rom-com explores the love story of an agnostic podcaster and a Jewish rabbi who fall for one another despite their cultural and familial differences.

The story is semi-autobiographical, featuring an interfaith relationship that is similar to the one Erin Foster had with her now-husband Simon Tikhman before she converted and they married. Even with a Jewish woman as the creator, many people felt nervous about Nobody Wants This. Jewish stereotypes are unfortunately prevalent in the media, and the Netflix romantic comedy heavily features characters from that culture. Sadly, many members...

‘Nobody Wants This’ Creator Addresses Show’s Divisive Depiction of Jewish Women: ‘I Nag My Husband a Lot, Too’
Image
As audiences embrace the charming love story at the center of “Nobody Wants This” to the tune of various TikToks and memes obsessing over Adam Brody and Kristen Bell’s characters, the rom-com series has also received some backlash regarding its portrayal of Jewish women. Specifically, TV critics have pointed to Noah’s sister-in-law, Esther (Jackie Tohn), as a stereotype of Jewish women nagging and mothering their husbands — which creator Erin Foster admits she is also guilty of.

“That’s like how I am as a wife … I nag my husband a lot, too — I’m the queen of micromanaging my husband, and it annoys him to no end,” Erin Foster, who is Jewish, told TheWrap when asked about her response to criticism about the show’s female Jewish characters. “Look at her husband (Timothy Simons’ Sasha) — He’s a man child. I think any woman married to that guy...

Nobody Wants This Creator Erin Foster Addresses Backlash Over Jewish Depictions in Netflix Series
Image
Nobody Wants This creator Erin Foster has addressed criticism surrounding her show's depiction of Jewish characters. Following the Netflix series' premiere on September 26, Glamour published "Netflix's Nobody Wants This and the Persistent Jewish Stereotype," an opinion piece by senior West Coast editor Jessica Radloff. While Radloff enjoyed the series (more on that later), she did take offense to the way Jewish women are portrayed in the romantic comedy: from an unwelcoming mother to the "Jewish trope of controlling/annoying wife who can't stand their other half." Foster, whose real-life romance with now-husband Simon Tikhman loosely inspired the series, recently spoke with the Los Angeles Times regarding the backlash:

"I think we need positive Jewish stories right now. I think it's interesting when people focus on, 'Oh, this is a stereotype of Jewish people,' when you have a rabbi as the lead. A hot, cool, young rabbi who smokes weed.

Netflix’s New Romcom ‘Nobody Wants This’ Might Be Just What You Want
Image
A cool young rabbi is on the rise at his temple. He’s single, so members are constantly trying to make love connections with the eligible young Jewish women in their acquaintance. So it’s inconvenient for him when the woman he can’t stop thinking about definitely isn’t Jewish. Can they make things work? Should they even try?

The path to love is rocky indeed for Jake Schram (Ben Stiller) and Anna Riley (Jenna Elfman) in Keeping the Faith, the 2000 feature film debut of director Edward Norton, who also stars as Brian Finn, a Catholic priest who happens to be both Jake’s best friend And hopelessly hung up on Anna.

Evidently, the stresses of interfaith relationships haven’t lessened in the near-quarter-century since Keeping the Faith’s release: now Netflix is premiering a new sitcom with almost exactly the same premise. But considering that we’ve seen...
