Helen Mirren is reflecting on her stance to collaborate with Taylor Sheridan after her previous project with the director left the audience divided. Sheridan added another jewel to his Yellowstone crown when he added the prequel 1923.
For the project, Sheridan collaborated with acting powerhouses like Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren to narrate the back story of television’s popular Western. While the show is generally considered a hit, it has also managed to divide the audience like never before. Amid this, the veteran actress, who was introduced as Dutton matriarch in Season 1 in 2022, is sharing her real thoughts about the scope of a future collaboration with Sheridan.
While Cara Dutton was one of the most interesting roles in the series, Mirren’s response regarding the possibility of her revisiting the role is equally intriguing. Let’s find out what Mirren really thinks about working with Sheridan after the polarizing series.

If you thought The Night Agent's Gabriel Basso was a force to be reckoned with on screen, it turns out he is so tough he even spooked an Mma legend. Yeah, the dorky kid from Super 8 with the glasses. That guy. In a genre that relies on trick photography, quick edits, digital face-swaps, and countless expendable stuntpeople, there are those A-list performers that feel a twinge of embarrassment at faking it.
He's put everything he's learned into his short time on The Night Agent. But it's the action sequences that bring out his neurotic side. Performers don't just memorize the scene's blocking, stage cues, and dialogue, but also have to convincingly sell a phony gut punch — something they evidently failed to cover in his early days as a child actor on the set of Nickelodeon's iCarly. Pushing his body to further extremes all for the sake of building a better cinematic beatdown,...

Ever since The Night Agent landed on Netflix, the series has become one of the platform’s most-watched shows. The wildly popular series is an action thriller that follows a low-level FBI agent named Peter Sutherland (Gabriel Basso), who works in the basement of the White House. His only job is to answer the phone if it ever rings. Nonetheless, it never does. Designated for a highly classified counterintelligence program within the FBI known as Night Action, the phone is meant to assist undercover agents in the field should they ever need immediate help. As such, Peter spends most of his time analyzing reports rather than actually answering the phone.

Warning: Spoilers for The Night Agent Season 2.
As one of the most watched Netflix series ever, The Night Agent continues to amass quite a following. The first season premiered in March 2023 and immediately shot to the top of the platform’s viewing charts. When its second season arrived in January 2025, it once again dominated Netflix’s Top Ten list. The series follows a low-level FBI agent named Peter Sutherland (Gabriel Basso) who initially begins the show answering a phone in the basement of the White House. Strictly designated for the highly classified counterintelligence program in the FBI known as Night Action, the phone never rings. At least, it never has the entire time Peter has manned the phone. All that changes in Season 1. What follows ultimately thrusts Peter even deeper into the world of Night Action as he unravels a massive conspiracy involving the vice president and the president’s chief of staff.

The Night Agentis one of Netflix's most popular action shows. The series has had two extremely successful seasons, with its debut season releasing in 2023. The first season performed so well that a follow-up season was confirmed a mere week after the release of Season 1. Now, Season 2, which was released only days ago, is already dominating Netflix's US charts. Given its success, it comes as no surprise that a third season of The Night Agent is also in the works.
In fact, the series' third season was confirmed prior to Season 2's release, clearly demonstrating Netflix's faith in The Night Agent. Led by Gabriel Basso in the titular role of FBI-agent-turned-Night-Agent Peter Sutherland, the series is packed with conspiracies involving the highest levels of government, explosive action and the most unexpected plot twists. Season 1 saw Peter rescue the President from an assassination attempt, while Season 2 took the agent into a global sphere.

Night Agent is returning with season two and in the new trailer (below) that dropped on Christmas, Gabriel Basso‘s Peter Sutherland is on the run.
The Sony Pictures TV and Shawn Ryan conspiracy series that was a mega-hit for Netflix in 2023 returns after almost two years with season two on Jan. 23, 2025. Based on the novel by Matthew Quirk, The Night Agent‘s first season centered on Peter as a low-level FBI agent answering overnight calls for the secretive White House organization called Night Action. His heroic efforts (he saved the president) earned him a promotion to Night Agent by the end of the season. But, as the trailer shows, a mission outside of Washington, D.C. now puts a target on his back once again.
The trailer for the 10-episode new season dropped — literally — during the NFL’s Ravens vs. Texans Christmas game that aired live on Netflix.

Every season, Netflix’s hit action-thriller The Night Agent introduces a new story and new characters around title character Peter Sutherland (Gabriel Basso), who has been accompanied so far by Luciane Buchanan’s Rose Larkin. Season 3 is shaping up to introduce the highest-profile new cast, with three new series regulars who have led their own shows, David Lyons, Jennifer Morrison and Stephen Moyer.
They join fellow new series regulars Genesis Rodriguez (Lioness), whose pending casting was revealed last month, and child actor Callum Vinson (Chucky). Additionally, Suraj Sharma (How I Met Your Father) has been tapped as recurring.
Per usual, no details are being revealed about the characters. I hear Lyons will play a former spy lured out of retirement, Morrison will play the First Lady, Moyer will play a top hitman; and Rodriguez will play a reporter.

The first trailer for The Night Agent season 2 has arrived. The Netflix action show premiered in 2023, following FBI agent Peter Sutherland (Gabriel Basso) as his Night Action job manning a mysterious White House phone plunges him into a world of political intrigue. The Night Agent season 2 was renewed less than a week after season 1 premiered, and season 3 was renewed in October. It has also been revealed that the show would take on an approach similar to Prime Video's Reacher, still following Basso's Peter but with many season 1 supporting players not set to return.
Netflix has now unveiled the official teaser for The Night Agent season 2. While it only lasts a brief 30 seconds, it packs in a variety of high-octane action moments featuring the return of Peter, who has seemingly become embroiled in a new adventure with an even more dangerous enemy. The trailer, which ends on an ominous moment of...

It’s a case of good news-bad news for The Night Agent fans. In a vote of confidence to the Shawn Ryan action-thriller, the series starring Gabriel Basso has received a 10-episode Season 3 renewal ahead of its Season 2 debut. As for Season 2, viewers will have to wait a little longer. Originally slated for a 2024 release, Season 2 will now premiere in winter 2025. That is almost two years after Season 1 dropped on March 23, 2023, becoming an instant breakout en route to 98.2M views in its first 91 day and a spot on Netflix’s Top 10 most popular English-language series of all time.
Fans won’t have to wait that long for Season 3 — like streamers typically do with their strongest performers, Netflix clearly had commissioned a writers room to work on the new installment as filming will begin very soon with a production unit in Istanbul at the end of 2024 followed by a New York...

Netflix will keep The Night Agent on call beyond its forthcoming second season.
The streamer has renewed The Night Agent for a third season, with the pickup coming several months before season two premieres. Netflix hasn’t set a specific date for the show’s return but says it will premiere in winter 2025 (which is slightly later than Netflix co-ceo Ted Sarando said the show would debut on an earnings call earlier this year).
Production on season three is set to begin late this year in Istanbul and continue in New York after the new year.
Created by Shawn Ryan and produced by Sony Pictures Television, The Night Agent was a breakout hit for Netflix last year. The show’s first season currently ranks seventh all time among English-language series in the streamer’s internal rankings (which measure viewing for 13 weeks after a show’s premiere). While waiting for Reacher season 3, there are still plenty of similar series that can scratch the itch of fans awaiting the show's return. Reacher took TV audiences by storm when it premiered in 2022. While the second season of the Prime Video series based on the Jack Reacher book series by Lee Childs has already aired, fans are already eagerly awaiting the highly-anticipated Reacher season 3, which will follow Persuader, the third book in the Jack Reacher series.
The series has been a bona fide star turn for lead Alan Ritchson, who plays the titular loner with a deadpan gravitas and a hulking swagger that has endeared him to fans of the books. Jack Reacher may be the Mary Sue of action-thriller protagonists, a man of such specialized hypercompetence as to occasionally not be believable. Still, he's a heck of a lot of fun to watch as he tracks down his enemies and beats them into submission.

Although it's been a more subtle genre in the last decade or so, political suspense thrillers with espionage storylines have been re-introduced to the small screen with shows like The Night Agent. Although they have only had temporary spurts of popularity in recent years, the splashing statement based on their ratings has shown that they have promise as the cream of the crop. The Night Agent's first season has exemplified a healthy mix of grounded white house intrigue a la House of Cards with Bourne Identity-like conspiracy thrills blended in.
Throughout, The Night Agent also finds a healthy dose of stress-comedy that appropriately builds good character development. Albeit a very balanced show, how does The Night Agent measure up among its critics? Although there are only ten episodes of The Night Agent, something can be said about how IMDb's rankings have placed the episodes. Extrapolating from that and...
