Netflix has opted to cancel Cursed after just one season. The fantasy series, which was headlined by Katherine Langford was released last summer and promised a new take on the age-old Arthurian legend. But the new take didn't generate enough buzz to garner a large enough audience that would justify a continuation. As a result, the streaming service has quietly axed the show.

According to multiple reports, Cursed season 2 is not in the cards. While Netflix has been known to save certain shows from cancelation, their shows don't move elsewhere. So this is firmly a one-and-done situation. The cast has been released from any contractual obligations and are now free to pursue other opportunities. No specific reason for the cancellation was provided. Though it likely came down to the audience it brought in relative to what it cost to produce.

The Netflix fantasy series Cursed is a new take on the Legend of King Arthur. Based on a graphic novel written by Thomas Wheeler and illustrated by Frank Miller, the series stars Katherine Langford (13 Reasons Why) in the lead as Nimue, a teenager with special powers who will one day become the fabled Lady of the Lake. In a recent interview with the press, Langford spoke about her love for the character of Nimue.

Netflix has dropped the trailer for “Cursed,” a new fantasy series the reimagines the tale of King Arthur and his magical sword, Excalibur.

Netflix is getting into Arthurian legends. Any Game of Thrones fans out there looking for a new medieval fantasy TV series to binge? Well, then you’re in luck, as Netflix is about to drop its next big budget show in the form of Cursed, a bold reimagining of the legends of King Arthur starring Knives Out actress Katherine Langford. The project’s been in the works for a while, and this morning, the streaming giant finally revealed our first look at it. Complete with an announcement about its release date.

Cursed, based on the New York Times bestselling illustrated novel from comic book icon Frank Miller and Tom Wheeler, is a retelling of the Arthurian saga from the point of view of Nimue, a young woman who’s destined to become the Lady in the Lake, who typically supplies Arthur with Excalibur. The series will see the heroine team up with the future king, here retooled as a humble mercenary.

This is a nice change of pace for Katherine Langford.

Beware: The third Friday in July is Cursed…’s premiere date.

Netflix’s adaptation of the illustrated novel by Thomas Wheeler and Frank Miller (300) will begin streaming on July 17, the video site announced Thursday. Netflix also released a teaser trailer that introduces Katherine Langford (13 Reasons Why) as Nimue of Arthurian legend, someone the series’ official logline calls “a teenage heroine with a mysterious gift who is destine to become the powerful (and tragic) Lady of the Lake.”

Hulu has acquired Sky comedy drama Brassic, while Acorn TV has picked up BBC’s Julia Ormond-fronted drama Gold Digger.

Both deals were unveiled by ITV Studios at Natpe.

Brassic stars This Is England’s Joe Gilgun, Ripper Street’s Damien Molony and Our Girl’s Michelle Keegan as well as Dominic West. Gilgun plays Vinnie, a man from the north of England with bipolar disorder and his best mate Dylan, played by Molony, whose girlfriend Erin, played by Keegan decides to leave town. Dylan is faced with the impossible decision between a fresh start with the love of his life or staying behind with his inseparable gang of mates that he can’t live without.

The series, which is produced by Calamity Films, the company behind Renée Zellweger’s Judy Garland biopic, was co-created by Gilgun and Danny Brocklehurst, the writer behind Netflix’s Michael C Hall-fronted thriller Safe.

Currently on screen in the Nine Network’s Bad Mothers, Shalom Brune-Franklin has joined the cast of Cursed, a UK drama commissioned by Netflix.

Aussie-born Katherine Langford is playing the female lead, Nimue, a teenage sorceress who becomes the Lady of the Lake in the re-imagining of the King Arthur legend.

Brune-Franklin is Morgana, also known as Morgan le Fay, a fairy queen and sorceress who is one of Arthur’s three half-sisters.

Now shooting in England and Wales, the 10-episode series was co-created by Frank Miller and Tom Wheeler, based on their upcoming young adult illustrated book of the same name.
