J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter might focus on the titular boy wizard and his adventures at the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, but Harry doesn’t live in a bubble. Witches and wizards are closely connected to Muggles, or according to the American term, the No-Maj. The tension between Muggles and wizards is a persistent trope in the series.

As is common with long-running shows, Call the Midwife has had some cast changes during its run. In Season 3, the show lost a fan favorite, Jenny Lee, bidding farewell to Jessica Raine's character. Then, in Season 5, the British period drama lost another dearly beloved character, Sister Evangelina. What seemed to be a long-awaited death was revealed to be a necessary decision.
Lasting for five seasons, Sister Evangelina was a recurring character in Call the Midwife. She was a member of the Order of Saint Raymond Nonnatus and a resident of Nonnatus House. Even though she wasn't quite herself leading up to her death, viewers still found it shocking to endure. But as the Sister Evangelina actor Pam Ferris would reveal, there was off-screen motivation behind the character's death.

Sometimes, great movies that are met with universal acclaim from both critics and audiences alike do not find the same success at the box office. And one such example is the 2006 dystopian action thriller, Children of Men, which is now available to stream for free. Considered by many to be one of the best examples of the genre, Children of Men remains underrated among wider audiences who are seriously missing out on this stark look at what happens to society two decades after humanity suddenly becomes infertile.
Tackling several subjects that will hit (almost too) close to home, including a totalitarian police state, pandemics, the vicious treatment of immigrants, and the total collapse of society, Children of Men picks up in 2027 (getting closer!) and follows Clive Owens former activist as he stumbles across what might just be humanitys last hope. Call the Midwife is a long-running British period drama that completed its 13th season in May 2024. The acclaimed TV series is set in the 1950s and 1960s, telling the story of Jenny Lee (Jessica Raine) and her close fellowship of female nurses and nuns who assist mothers during childbirth at a convent in London's East End. Once Lee leaves after Season 3, the drama focuses on the other midwives, including Jennifer Worth (Vanessa Redgrave), Sister Julienne (Jenny Agutter), and many others.
With Call the Midwife recently renewed for two more seasons, questions about a supporting character named Lucille Anderson, a dutiful nurse who starred on the show between Seasons 7 and 12, have continued to swirl online. At last glance, Lucille had difficult decisions following an unspeakable personal tragedy, directly informing her fate on the show moving forward. The Harry Potter movie series is arguably one of the most beloved and influential fantasy franchises of all-time, but Evanna Lynch (who plays Luna Lovegood in the movies) somehow forgot she ever appeared in them. Lynch first played Luna Lovegood, the dotty Ravenclaw student, in Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. Not only was Lovegood one of the most memorable characters from the movie series, The Order of the Phoenix was Lynch's first credited acting role.
For any Potter fan, playing such a beloved character alongside acting royalty like Alan Rickman, Brendan Gleeson, Gary Oldman, Mark Williams, David Thewlis, and Michael Gambon, should be an unforgettable experience. But Evanna Lynch, channeling the scatterbrained nature of her character, completely forgot she starred in the franchise during a recent re-watch.

Matilda and Carrie share similarities: both face abuse, wield telekinetic powers, and find solace in their teachers. A fan theory connects the two stories, suggesting Matilda grows up to be Carrie due to shared experiences. Despite differences in genres and authors, the theory is a fun and intriguing idea that adds a new layer to the iconic stories.
Roald Dahl and Stephen King. Two prolific authors who, aside from their tremendous success in literature, don't seem to have much in common. Roald Dahl's quirky imagination has crafted some of the most famous and beloved stories in children's literature, such as Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Matilda, and James and the Giant Peach. Stephen King, however, is known as the Master of Horror and has been haunting our nightmares for decades with classics like Carrie, It, and The Shining.

Miss Trunchbull's anger issues may stem from steroid abuse, adding a tragic layer to her character in Matilda. The theory gives Trunchbull a more complex backstory without excusing her actions as the film's main villain. Trunchbull's Olympic ambitions and physique obsession could explain her rage towards children, enhancing her character.
A theory about Miss Trunchbull from Matilda adds layers to the character and changes how I look at her role in the film. Played by Pam Ferris, Miss Trunchbull is the most fearsome foe Matilda encounters in the film. She's a brutal educator who has a habit of tormenting her students, either by forcing them into humiliating punishments or just by casually throwing them around. She's a horrifying character and made a huge impression on me as a kid.
However, a harsh reality of rewatching Matilda is that Miss Trunchbull seemingly lacks character depth that's afforded other characters in the film.

Pam Ferris steals the show as the terrifying Miss Trunchbull in Matilda, delivering nightmare-inducing villainy. Matilda's dark humor, strong performances, and unique approach make it one of the best Roald Dahl adaptations. Miss Trunchbull joins the ranks of terrifying kids' movie villains like the Child Catcher from Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.
Like many 90s kids, I spent my childhood terrified of Miss Trunchbull from Matilda and now, the movie is trending on Netflix. Adapted from the classic Roald Dahl book of the same name, Matilda stars Mara Wilson as the eponymous child prodigy, who develops psychokinetic powers and uses them to fight back against her abusive family and the ruthless headmistress of her school. The adaptation was directed by Danny DeVito, who also plays dual roles as Matildas reprehensible father and the films narrator. Rhea Perlman plays Matildas mother and Embeth Davidtz plays her kind-hearted teacher, Miss Honey.

One Matilda theory proposes she was a government experiment. Matilda potentially lived under surveillance even after her happy ending with Ms. Honey. This theory takes away the book's core message.
Matilda is one of the most beloved books and movies thanks to its characters and tone, though it does have some sad elements and one theory adds to this by changing Matildas backstory, making her story a lot sadder. Roald Dahls 1988 childrens novel Matilda is a favorite of children and adults alike, and in 1996, it was adapted into a film. Directed by Danny DeVito, Matilda introduced the audience to the title character (played by Mara Wilson), a young child with extraordinary abilities. Matilda was a critical success though not a box office one, but its now considered a 1990s classic.

Alfonso Cuarn nearly turned down directing Harry Potter until a strong rebuke from Guillermo del Toro changed his mind. Cuarn's previous work on Y tu Mam Tambin made him the perfect fit for Prisoner of Azkaban. Despite initial reluctance, Cuarn's direction helped solidify his career and the success of the Harry Potter franchise.
Alfonso Cuarn, who directed Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, one of the most-beloved movies in Warner Bros.' Wizarding World franchise, recently admitted that he initially didn't want the job, and only said yes after being berated by one of his friends - who just so happens to be adored filmmaker Guillermo del Toro. The Prisoner of Azkaban is the third installment in Warner Bros.' adaptation of J.K. Rowling's beloved Harry Potter novel series, and introduced audiences to Gary Oldman's phenomenal performance as Sirius Black. However, Cuarn said he nearly had nothing to do with the movie.

Villainous roles can really show off an actor's skill set, especially when the villain is layered or complex. As movies have developed, audiences have come to enjoy watching the narrative of an antagonist, whether in fantasy, drama or non-fiction films. The villain has the ability to make a film unpredictable, like Voldemort in Harry Potter, or leave viewers feeling so uneasy that they can't forget about the film, as in Hannibal in Silence of the Lambs.
Female movie villains have come to be some of the most frightening of all through a range of genres. Whether a film includes the portrayal of an obvious baddie or a more subtle, evil mind that takes time to develop over the course of a story, there's a plethora of female villains that stand out from the rest.

Netflix typically refuses to release its actual viewership numbers to the public, making its weekly top-10 lists a fascinating peek into how streaming services actually operate. Netflix may pour millions into their original programs, but their ten most popular films or TV tend to (at least partly) be 25-year-old movies experiencing a seemingly random renaissance. Case in point: one of the hottest films on Netflix right now is Danny DeVito's 1996 family film "Matilda" based on the 1988 novel by Roald Dahl.
"Matilda," critically acclaimed upon its release, is about the titular young girl (Mara Wilson) who lives with caustic, greedy, tacky, and abusive parents. This is one of the age-old questions about human nature, up there with ‘what is consciousness?’ and ‘why do we keep eating mouldy cheese and fish eggs like it’s a good thing?’ Because, despite the grief and blood and mountains of paperwork that a gruesome murder causes, we simply can’t get enough of curling up on the sofa with a mug of tea and a cosy crime drama to keep us blissfully entertained all the way through to bedtime.
This isn’t a new thing, either: while modern series like Death in Paradise and Shakespeare and Hathaway are the current champions of cosy crime TV, back in the eighties and nineties classics like Murder She Wrote and Hetty Wainthropp Investigates taught us how it’s done. So whether you’re after the latest in the cosy crime genre or some more nostalgic viewing,...

Some '90s kids movies have incredibly dark moments hidden within them, which evolved storytelling for children across the decade. Surprisingly, even films like The Muppet Christmas Carol and Beauty and the Beast have dark moments that contribute to the overall message. Some notable dark moments include Bruno transforming into a mouse in The Witches, Scar's song in The Lion King, and Buzz realizing he's a toy in Toy Story.
Incredibly dark moments hidden in '90s kids movies underscore how much stories for children evolved during the decade. On one hand, it can be surprising how much darkness is cleverly tucked inside some of the most foundational and popular kids movies from the 1990s. On the other, it can be argued that many of these moments are crucial to delivering the positive messages and lessons that these films aimed to impart to children.

The 1996 version of Matilda counts on the talents of various well-known actors, but is Pee-wee Herman also part of the cast of Matilda? Roald Dahl wrote a variety of stories, with many becoming classics of children’s literature, among them the 1988 novel Matilda. The popularity of Matilda has been such that it has been adapted to other media, including a two-part radio program, a stage musical, and a film adaptation of the musical. In 1996, Matilda made the jump to the big screen, with Danny DeVito as director and Mara Wilson playing the title character.
Matilda tells the story of the title character, a child prodigy who is neglected by her parents and tormented at school by the tyrannical headmistress Miss Trunchbull (Pam Ferris). Matilda gradually realizes that she has psychokinetic abilities, and she starts to use these to deal with her abusive parents, Harry (DeVito) and Zinnia Wormwood (Rhea Perlman), and Miss Trunchbull.

Danny DeVito’s Matilda has become a classic of children’s cinema, but who plays the terrifying Miss Trunchbull in this version? Roald Dahl was responsible for many children’s novels that have become classics of literature, and their popularity has led them to expand to other media. Among the most beloved stories by Dahl is Matilda, published in 1988, which has been adapted into a feature film, a two-part radio program, and even a musical, which in turn was adapted into a film in 2022 – however, the 1996 film adaptation holds a special place in the hearts of fans of the story.

Matilda director and star Danny DeVito reacts to his 1996 Roald Dahl adaptation breaking into the Netflix Top 10 list. Based on the 1988 novel of the same name, the adaptation follows young Matilda (Mara Wilson) as she develops psychic powers and uses them to fight back against her abusive parents, played by DeVito and Rhea Perlman, and the sadistic Miss Trunchbull (Pam Ferris), her school's headmistress. While failing to recoup its budget at the box office, the film would go on to find success when it was released on VHS.
Matilda recently broke into the Top 10 list on Netflix, and DeVito celebrated the occasion with a Tweet in which he calls it "sweet." Check out DeVito's post below:

This post contains spoilers for "Children of Men."
One of the greatest movie scenes of the 21st century comes early in the dystopian sci-fi masterpiece "Children of Men," as five characters pile into a car for what initially seems like a blissful ride. Though the near future they inhabit is beset by human infertility, all is going well as our protagonist, Theo (Clive Owen), wakes from a backseat nap and begins playing a game with the mother of his late child, Julian (Julianne Moore). She turns from the passenger's seat, and they blow a ping pong ball back and forth, laughing right up until the moment when a flaming car comes rolling downhill ahead of them, followed by a band of marauders, the Zeds.
What follows next is the kind of movie scene the phrase "tour de force" was invented for. As they took to the road in a modified Fiat Multipla,...
