Netflix's Return of the King: The Fall and Rise of Elvis Presley revisits the 1968 television special that marked Presley's return to live performance after a seven-year hiatus. After seven years of Presley making movies, his manager, Colonel Tom Parker, lined up a make-or-break Christmas television special to re-introduce Elvis to a music scene that had changed beyond recognition. The Beatles and The Rolling Stones were rampaging through the US, and a new socially active movement, led by Bob Dylan, was challenging norms. Parker proposed a $1.25 million exclusive rights deal with the NBC Television Network.

NBC brought in frequent business partner Universal Studios to share the cost, per vintagerockmag.com, and Presley's cut was a cool $1 million. TV Director Robert Finkel Dead
Emmy Award-winning TV director and producer Robert Finkel has died at the age of 94.

He passed away at his home in Beverly Hills, California on 30 April after suffering age-related complications, his publicist told the Associated Press on Friday.

Finkel produced TV series with stars including Andy Williams and Jerry Lewis, and directed sitcoms such as Barney Miller and The Bob Newhart Show.

He also won a Peabody Award for a show with Julie Andrews and produced specials featuring Bing Crosby, Elvis Presley and John Denver.
