The new streaming home will likely come as welcome news for fans of the film, which was directed by British heavyweight filmmaker Sam Mendes.

For those unfamiliar with the newly streaming film, Jarhead is based on the book of the same name by Anthony Swofford. It follows Swofford (Gyllenhaal) as he becomes a Marine recruit en route to the notoriously difficult Camp Pendleton. After a longwinded and contentious training period with his drill instructor (Scott MacDonald), Swofford graduates as a Marine sniper and gets deployed during the deadly Operation Desert Storm.

Ralph Fiennes, Isabella Rossellini, John Lithgow, and Stanley Tucci in Conclave (2024)
‘Conclave’ Wins 4 BAFTAs, Including Best Film, at 2025 Awards (Complete Winners List)
Ralph Fiennes, Isabella Rossellini, John Lithgow, and Stanley Tucci in Conclave (2024)
“Conclave” won Best Film at the 2025 EE BAFTA Film Awards, leading the pack with four BAFTAs overall. The British equivalent of the Oscars took place February 16 from the Southbank Centre’s Royal Festival Hall in central London, honoring the best in film for its 78th annual edition.

Edward Berger’s “Conclave” led all films with 12 BAFTA nominations, and it won Best Film, Outstanding British Film, Best Adapted Screenplay for Peter Straughan, and Best Editing. It’s an upset after “Anora” swept all three of the DGAs, PGAs, and WGAs. The last film to win those three prizes, but not Best Picture at the Oscars was “Brokeback Mountain,” but then again, it did win the BAFTA for Best Film.

“Anora” did have a strong showing though, with Mikey Madison pulling off an upset and winning Leading Actress over Demi Moore for “The Substance.” “Anora” also won Best Casting, though Madison lost...

BAFTA Awards: ‘Conclave’ Scores Best Film as ‘The Brutalist’ Ties With Four Wins and Mikey Madison Surprises in Leading Actress
Image
At a BAFTA Awards where there was no clear frontrunner going into the ceremony, British Academy voters chose to largely share the spoils when it came to handing out honors.

But only one could win the top prize of best film, and this year that went to “Conclave,” which had entered the night with the most number of nominations (11). Edward Berger’s Vatican thriller wound up tying with Brady Corbet’s “The Brutalist” with four BAFTA wins each. Of its four, the 3.5-hour American epic won leading actor for Adrien Brody and director for Corbet.

Meanwhile, there was a surprise when Mikey Madison was named leading actress for “Anora” (one of two wins for Sean Baker’s sex worker comedy), with “The Substance” star Demi Moore’s seem by many as sure bet. Coralie Fargeat’s body-horror instead took home one award, for makeup and hairstyling.

Elsewhere, Jacques Audiard’s crime musical “Emilia Pérez,...

Did You Know Ridley Scott Was Asked To Reshoot Gladiator Halfway Through Filming?
Image
Gladiator reshoot, Ridley Scott, Oliver Reed, CGI, movie magic ( Photo Credit – Instagram )

Gladiator isn’t just a movie; it’s a brutal, bloody, and brilliantly crafted tale of revenge that had us all chanting, “Are you not entertained?” Played by Russell Crowe, Maximus goes from general to Gladiator, slicing enemies to avenge his family and fight for his freedom. With epic battles and unforgettable moments, Gladiator became one of Ridley Scott’s finest films, even snagging an Oscar for Best Picture.

But did you know halfway through filming, the insurance company thought the whole thing was doomed and advised Scott to reshoot it? Yep, Gladiator almost didn’t happen in the epic way we remember.

Ridley Scott Had To Almost Reshoot the Entire Gladiator

During a conversation with The Hollywood Reporter’s Producer Roundtable, wild info about Ridley Scott’s Gladiator surfaced, almost as dramatic as Hollywood. They had to...

Did Leonardo DiCaprio’s Iconic Rain Scene In The Great Gatsby Happen By Chance?
Image
Leonardo DiCaprio’s rain scene just happened (Photo Credit – Facebook)

From his unforgettable turn in Titanic and that tear-jerking goodbye to Rose became instant classics to his mind-bending performance in Inception, Leonardo DiCaprio’s scenes always stand out.

Then there’s The Revenant, where his rugged, bloody face became a memorable visual of raw survival. But let’s not forget The Great Gatsby, the glittering spectacle where Leo brought Jay Gatsby’s charm and mystery to life. With that iconic green light and his suave, yet tortured performance, DiCaprio cemented his place as the king of cinematic moments. But did you there is one iconic moment that happened by chance?

The Great Gatsby This Scene Happened By Chance

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, producer Lucy Fisher spilled the beans on how one of The Great Gatsby’s most iconic moments wasn’t planned at all. He shared that...

Ridley Scott Credits Streaming With Keeping ‘Gladiator’ Alive In Christopher Nolan Conversation
Image
During FYC season, you not only get opportunities to hear the filmmakers talk about their latest work, but sometimes other equally prominent filmmakers moderate the Q&a.

Christopher Nolan interviewed Ridley Scott after a screening of Gladiator II at the DGA Theater in West Hollywood on Tuesday night. When the Oppenheimer Oscar winner asked about the decades since Scott’s Best Picture winner, Scott credited streaming services with keeping Gladiator viable for a sequel 24 years later.

“Thank God for all the platforms,” Scott said. “I can press a button and see the first film I did 40 years ago. I watched The Duelists tonight. Thanks to the platform, the film evolves a life of its own.”

Hard to believe it’s going on a half-century since 1977’s The Duelists. Streaming also led Scott to his new lead actor. He said he saw Paul Mescal, who plays the long-lost son of Queen...

“It Was A $90M Insurance Claim”: Ridley Scott Was Asked To Reshoot All Of Gladiator Halfway Through Filming
Image
The insurance company of Gladiator advised Ridley Scott to reshoot the whole movie midway through filming due to an unforeseen circumstance. Scott's 2000 Best Picture-winning movie, which just recently saw the release of its long-awaited sequel, followed Maximus (Russell Crowe), a general forced into slavery who must fight for his life as a gladiator while seeking revenge against those who wronged him. Gladiator is considered one of Scott's best movies, but its production didn't come without challenges.

At The Hollywood Reporter's Producer Roundtable, it was revealed that Scott almost had to reshoot the entirety of Gladiator. Before filming was complete, actor Oliver Reed passed away after a double heart attack, leaving a few scenes unfinished. He played Proximo, a gladiator trainer who has a pivotal role in Maximus' journey. Mary Parent, who was then a young executive at Universal advocating for the project, and Lucy Fisher, the producer of the new sequel,...

The Iconic Rain Scene In Leonardo DiCaprio's $353M Movie Actually Happened By Chance & It Wasn't Even In The Book
Image
Leonardo DiCaprio's career has been characterized by iconic scenes. This trend began with his role in Titanic, which changed his career forever. While the film is full of quotable and noteworthy moments of cinema, it is hard to name just one key moment for the actor in that film. Both Jack's embracing of Rose on the ship's bow, and his final goodbye to his lover, stand out among the most recognizable moments from the movie. Titanic helped launch DiCaprio's career, and it is these key scenes that keep the film so notable.

Even in the years since Titanic, DiCaprio has had iconic role after iconic role. The Christopher Nolan film Inception has been cited as a seminal work of science-fiction, with several of its visual sequences acting as key cinematic moments of the 21st century. In a similar vein, the lighting and cinematography of The Revenant is considered to be peak cinema,...

Pushy Directors, Money Problems and a Prosthetic Penis: All in Day’s Work for THR’s Producer Roundtable
Image
From building 14 blocks of ancient Rome and filling it with 2,000 extras for Gladiator II to ensuring Sing Sing‘s cast of formerly incarcerated actors was comfortable shooting in a prison, the producers behind this year’s best picture contenders had to navigate everything from the Arabian Desert to nervous studio executives.

Lucy Fisher (Gladiator II), Mary Parent (Dune: Part Two), Amy Pascal (Challengers), Samantha Quan (Anora), Tessa Ross (Conclave) and Monique Walton (Sing Sing) came together in Los Angeles for The Hollywood Reporter‘s annual Producer Roundtable to talk about getting stuck in mud (literally) while sticking it out in Hollywood. Says Parent, “So many people are driven by fear right now. Everyone’s jumping ship. As a producer, you can never jump ship.”

What did your first job as a Hollywood producer entail?

‘Wicked’ Writer Reveals What Would’ve Been Cut Had the Musical Been One Movie | Video
Image
If “Wicked” had been one movie as originally planned, the subplot involving all the animals of Oz and the backstory on the magical book the Grimmerie were due to be left on the cutting room floor. Instead, Winnie Holzman — who wrote the book for the stage musical and co-wrote the screenplay for the smash-hit “Wicked” film — said that by expanding the adaptation into two parts, they now “have room for everything.”

Holzman pulled back the curtain on the long process of turning “Wicked” into a movie during TheWrap’s “Art of Adaptation” panel at Power Women Summit on Tuesday in Los Angeles alongside producer Lucy Fisher (whose “Gladiator II” is currently in theaters), producer Nina Jacobson (the “Hunger Games” and “Diary of a Wimpy Kid” franchises) and actress Ariana Madix (a recent revival of “Chicago”) for one powerhouse conversation.

The first part of “Wicked” is in theaters now and has...

‘Gladiator II’ Producers on Returning to Ancient Rome: “We Didn’t Want to Be a Pale Imitation”
Image
[This story contains spoilers from Gladiator II.]

In March 2001, Gladiator producer Douglas Wick accepted the Oscar for best picture from Michael Douglas, thus setting the highest possible bar for the, at that point, already discussed sequel to Ridley Scott’s historical epic. At the end of his speech, Wick paid tribute to his family by lovingly saying that “all roads lead to” them, and the metaphor proved to be true in more ways than one. His partner in life, Lucy Fisher, left her decorated career as a studio executive to become producing partners with Wick at Red Wagon Entertainment, and together they’d shepherd over a dozen more films, including Oscar winners Memoirs of a Geisha (2005) and The Great Gatsby (2013), as well as the under-appreciated gem known as Lawless (2012).

In between it all, they never lost sight of Gladiator II as various scripts were commissioned, such as Nick Cave’s wild take that resurrected Russell Crowe...

The Two Actors Who Almost Played Gladiator 2's Lucius Before Paul Mescal
Image
This weekend, a lot more people were thinking about the Roman Empire than usual thanks to the release of "Gladiator II" (read our review). Ridley Scott's return to the glory of Rome sees Paul Mescal take on the role of Lucius, the newest contender in the Colosseum after the late, great Maximus (Russell Crowe), who haunts the "Gladiator" sequel throughout. There was a time, though, when other stars were being considered to enter into the arena as its new hero, and their involvement could've made for a very different movie.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Timothée Chalamet and Miles Teller were both eyed to play Lucius before Mescal came aboard. The "Dune" and "Top Gun: Maverick" actors (respectively) were apparently the frontrunners for the role, too, at least until Scott decided to indulge in some late-night television binging. After hammering through hours of Mescal's hit series "Normal People," steps...

Making of ‘Gladiator II’: Rome Wasn’t Re-Built in a Day — It Took Nearly 25 Years
Image
Ridley Scott has been trying to squeeze a rhinoceros into the Colosseum for 25 years.

Back in 1999, when he was shooting his first Gladiator film, he talked to animal trainers about the possibility of bringing a real 6,000-pound rhino onto his set but was told the horned animals were too difficult to control. Then he talked to CGI experts to see if a digitized one could be rendered for the movie but learned that the technology was budget-bustingly expensive.

For the next quarter-century, it became a running joke among Scott and his crew. “If we ever do a sequel,” Scott’s producer, Doug Wick, said in an interview in 2020, “Ridley gets his rhino.”

Well, they finally did a sequel, and Ridley got his rhino, a state-of-the-art, remote-controlled animatronic version whipped up by Industrial Light and Magic that can clock speeds of up to 40 miles an hour — while being ridden by a guy with a sword.

Paul Mescal on Meeting King Charles, ‘Glicked’ Double Features and Drunk Karaoke With the ‘Gladiator II’ Cast
Image
Paul Mescal is hoping “Glicked” is the new “Barbenheimer” by urging moviegoers to take in a double feature of “Gladiator II” and “Wicked.”

“I think they complement each other really well because they’re so different,” the Oscar-nominated actor told me at the “Gladiator II” premiere on Monday night in Los Angeles. “And if you love cinema, get out there and support it. Don’t wait for it to come on to a streamer, because we’re at a critical junction. We have been for a little while with theatrical films. If cinema is a thing for you, get out and see both films.”

Fred Hechinger, who plays Emperor Caracalla in Ridley Scott’s “Gladiator” sequel, said he’s planning on a “Glicked” day at the theater. “I love ‘Wicked,’” he said. “I’ll sing ‘Defying Gravity.’”

Speaking of singing, Mescal and Hechinger also detailed going to a karaoke bar...

‘Gladiator II’ LA Premiere: Stars Paul Mescal and Denzel Washington Gear Up on the Red Carpet | Photos
Image
“Gladiator II” pulled out all the stops Monday night while celebrating its Los Angeles premiere at the Tcl Chinese Theatre — and everyone got to keep their head, too!

Stars Paul Mescal and Denzel Washington were in attendance for the well-heeled Hollywood fête as heavyweight actors, influencers and industry power players turned out to toast Ridley Scott and Paramount Pictures’ highly anticipated, decades-in-the-making sequel to their 2001 Best Picture Oscar winner, “Gladiator.”

The star of that original bloody epic, Russell Crowe, also took home that year’s Academy Award for Best Actor. Could Mescal follow suit? Or perhaps supporting attention for Washington or Pedro Pascal? Or at long last, will Scott take home the year’s top prize for directing?

Only time will tell what awaits “Gladiator II.” But on Monday, Hollywood was alight with excitement over the two-and-half-hour epic, also starring Connie Nielsen, “Stranger Things” breakout Joseph Quinn and Fred Hechinger of “The White Lotus” fame.

Michael J. Fox in Stuart Little (1999)
How Stuart Little (1999) was nearly derailed when a cat’s backside fell off
Michael J. Fox in Stuart Little (1999)
Er, exclusive! 1999’s Stuart Little presented an unusual production problem, thanks to an incident with a cat. More here.

I’ve been writing about film, on and off, for a couple of decades now, and – even in the era when AI can seemingly do everything I can do for a fraction of the price – I’ve never quite found a story quite like this.

Back in 1999, the first Stuart Little movie hit cinemas. A cherished family film, it’s the other film that M Night Shyamalan was involved in that year. The Lion King’s Rob Minkoff directed, and Stuart Little turned into a $300m global franchise starter.

The producer of the film, Douglas Wick, would be on the stage of the Academy Awards just a year or two later, clinging onto a gong when Gladiator took home the Best Picture Oscar. Wick also – along with Lucy Fisher – produced the newly-released Gladiator II,...

Ridley Scott Almost Made a ‘Gladiator II’ Musical 10 Years Ago with Russell Crowe and Nick Cave: It Was Too ‘Bloody Silly’
Image
Ridley Scott almost went the way of the “Joker” sequel and was toying with bringing a little song and dance to the Colosseum.

Scott told Deadline that the long-gestating “Gladiator II” was set to be a musical sequel in 2014 before he realized that the concept was “bloody silly.” However, that iteration would have had Russell Crowe reprising his role of Maximus, despite the character dying in the 2000 feature. And of course, lest we forget about the more obvious “Joker” parallel with Joaquin Phoenix formerly playing Commodus…

According to Deadline, that 2014 sequel idea involved musician Nick Cave who worked with Crowe to devise a storyline that centered on Crowe’s Maximus “being sent back to Earth by the gods to kill Jesus Christ and his followers because he was stealing their thunder.”

Yet director Scott had his own reservations.

“Nick Cave did a great job of invention and Russell was fully engaged,...

‘Gladiator II’ Set To Rule International Box Office With $80M-$90M+ Early Overseas Bow – Preview
Image
Twenty-four years after Best Picture Oscar winner Gladiator reinvented the swords and sandals genre, its sequel, Gladiator II, is finally entering the arena. Paramount began overseas rollout Wednesday on the continuation of Ridley Scott’s Roman Empire action saga.

Through Friday, 63 international box office markets will be open — the full offshore footprint, save for China which goes in step with domestic on November 22.

The Paul Mescal, Pedro Pascal, Denzel Washington and Connie Nielsen-starrer is eyeing an international debut in the $80M-$90M range with the possibility of upside.

This one is tricky to comp since the original was so long ago when the world was a vastly different place. We are currently in a wonky moviegoing climate and older audiences may not rush out; however, reviews are strong and buzz is high. We hear previews that played in France earlier this week went down a treat, and Wednesday’s...

Barry Keoghan on His Role That Might’ve Been in ‘Gladiator II’: Ridley Scott Is ‘Just Legendary’
Image
After months of rumors that Barry Keoghan would star in Ridley Scott’s “Gladiator II,” the director spoke about Keoghan’s planned casting in the New York Times this week. Due to scheduling conflicts, Keoghan departed the swords-and-sandals sequel to film Emerald Fennell’s “Saltburn” in summer 2022.

“I love Ridley Scott,” Keoghan told IndieWire during a recent interview for the release of his latest film “Bird.” “I think he is just legendary. And again, Ridley is another one that you just jump on that opportunity. It didn’t work for scheduling reasons. But feck, man, you know, it’s like this guy is comparing me to these actors that I admire and, from a filmmaker like him, it was really nice to read that. It really was. I’m a massive fan of … Paul [Mescal]. Paul’s a friend, and I’m really excited. I love ‘Gladiator.’ So I’m really...

How ‘Gladiator 2’s’ Lucy Fisher and the PGA Are Pushing to Nail Down What a Producer Does
Image
It takes a village to make a movie, but when it comes to producers, at best they’re stereotyped as the money people — at worst, their efforts are nullified by honorary titles handed out like Halloween candy among anyone in need of recognition. It can be difficult to discern what producers do because unlike regulated union and guild positions where responsibilities are clearly delineated, they don’t have an over-arching protective governing body. Complicating the matter is the proliferation of titles that are typically misunderstood: How many people really know the difference between what an executive, co- and line producer does?

And it’s a job that women have been doing for a long time in the indie world. This awards season, awards contenders like “Nightbitch,” “Babygirl,” “Anora,” “The Brutalist” and others all have women in some type of producer capacity.

The PGA is trying to change that muddled perception...

Pedro Pascal Says ‘Getting My Ass Kicked’ by ‘Gladiator 2’ Star Paul Mescal Was a Form of ‘Elder Abuse’
Image
Turns out, Pedro Pascal found filming “Gladiator II” to be quite the challenge at his age.

“The distinguishing and incomparable aspect of the whole experience would be getting my ass kicked by Paul Mescal,” he told Entertainment Weekly in an interview published Tuesday. “Elder abuse, we call it.”

“I’m getting up there — or, I’m not getting up there, I am up there,” the 49-year-old actor added. “A lot of work has been really physical, and I love that, but it was more challenging than it’s ever been for me.”

Pascal stars in the Ridley Scott-directed sequel as General Marcus Acacius, who trained under the original film’s Maximus Decimus Meridius. His co-star Mescal is Lucius Verus II, who finds out that he’s the son of Maximus (portrayed by Russell Crowe in the first movie) and not Lucius Verus I.

The stars became fast friends while filming the movie.

‘Gladiator II’ to Make Asian Premiere at Tokyo International Film Festival
Image
Ridley Scott’s Gladiator II will start its Asian box office campaign in Japan. The Tokyo International Film Festival revealed Friday that it will host the Asian premiere of the epic sequel on Nov. 5 — more than two weeks ahead of its North American release over the Thanksgiving weekend on Nov. 22. The screening is a coup for Japan’s leading film festival, which used to regularly host Hollywood premieres but suffered a dry spell over the past decade as the studio’s shifted their marketing efforts towards China’s once-booming box office.

Scott won’t be in Japan to walk the festival’s red carpet, but the Gladiator II cast will be out in force for the Tokyo premiere. Star Paul Mescal is planning his very first visit to Japan to attend the gala screening. He’ll be joined by co-stars Denzel Washington, Fred Hechinger and Connie Nielsen, along with Gladiator II producers Douglas Wick,...

‘Dune’ Producer Mary Parent Says the Industry Has Gotten Worse for Female Producers: ‘It’s Harder to Get In’ | Video
Image
“Dune: Part Two” producer Mary Parent said that despite her own success working on big-budget productions, it’s “harder to get in” now than it was when she started her career decades ago.

“It’s harder to get in. The paths that used to exist don’t. I think that’s really impacted everything,” Parent said at TheWrap’s annual Grill conference on Tuesday, observing that the field has been dominated historically by men, especially on “big films.”

“Those were the films I wanted to make,” Parent said.

The lack of progress for female producers in the business was raised by former New York Times journalist Laura Holson who moderated the panel which included Lucy Fisher, the producer of “Gladiator II” opens next month, and veteran executive and producer Sue Naegle, who produced this awards season contender “Nightbitch.” Holson cited data reflecting that between 1998 and 2023, the number of female producers...

Men In Black's Classic Ending Was A Frenzied, Last-Minute Addition
Image
We may receive a commission on purchases made from links.

"Men in Black" is the best kind of blockbuster. It's uncommonly smart, riotously funny, exciting, heartwarming in spots, mean-spirited in others and, best of all, short. Yes, Roger Ebert was right when he said that no good movie is too long and no bad movie is short enough, but big summer movies have a tendency to give 'em too much of what they want. Sometimes, it's okay to leave the audience wanting more -- and by this I do not mean a post-credits stinger hyping the next movie in the franchise (although I am old enough to remember the thrill of waiting through the credits of a new 007 movie so I could see the "James Bond will return in..." title that typically gave viewers the title of the MI6 agent's next adventure).

At 98 minutes, "Men in Black" zips by.

Gladiator II New Trailer Confirms Lucius’ Father’s Identity
Image
In addition to dropping the rap music, Paramount Pictures’ new trailer for Gladiator II drops a confirmation that Lucius’ father was Maximus. Of course, given that this is a sequel and that Maximus was killed in the original film, we won’t be seeing Russell Crowe involved in his son’s life in the gladiator arena.

The trailer shows off a CGI baboon and a flooded arena, and includes Lucius uttering Maximus’ famous line: “I will have my vengeance.”

“From legendary director Ridley Scott, Gladiator II continues the epic saga of power, intrigue, and vengeance set in Ancient Rome. Years after witnessing the death of the revered hero Maximus at the hands of his uncle, Lucius is forced to enter the Colosseum after his home is conquered by the tyrannical Emperors who now lead Rome with an iron fist,” reads Paramount Pictures’ official synopsis. “With rage in his heart and...

‘Gladiator II’ New Trailer: Russell Crowe Returns in an Unexpected Way as Paul Mescal’s Paternity Is Revealed
Image
Russell Crowe may not be in “Gladiator II,” but his late character Maximus has been revealed at last to be the father of Paul Mescal’s lead Lucius.

The latest trailer for Ridley Scott’s highly-anticipated epic sequel has confirmed that Crowe’s Maximus fathered Lucius with Lucilla (Connie Nielsen), as long suspected. Lucius is the nephew of Commodus (Joaquin Phoenix) who was killed by Russell Crowe’s Maximus; the character is also the grandson of Marcus Aurelius (Richard Harris). Maximus died in “Gladiator.”

Spencer Treat Clark played Lucius in the 2000 feature.

“Gladiator II” is set 20 years after the events of the first film. Joseph Quinn, Pedro Pascal, and Denzel Washington co-star.

The official synopsis reads: “From legendary director Ridley Scott, ‘Gladiator II’ continues the epic saga of power, intrigue, and vengeance set in Ancient Rome. Years after witnessing the death of the revered hero Maximus at the hands of his uncle,...

‘Gladiator II’ Second Trailer: Paul Mescal’s Lucius “Will Not Be An Instrument” In His Quest For Vengeance
Image
Prepare to be entertained, promises the new look at Ridley Scott’s much-anticipated follow-up, Gladiator II.

In a second epic trailer, Paul Mescal’s Lucius forms an uneasy alliance with Denzel Washington’s Macrinus, a Roman power player who uses the former’s fury as a tool for his own aims. “I will never be your instrument,” Lucius says in the new spot, teased yesterday, “but I will have my vengeance.”

The movie stars Paul Mescal, Denzel Washington, Pedro Pascal, Joseph Quinn and Connnie Nielsen, who reprises her role from the original pic.

The film’s first trailer, dropped in early July, became one of Paramount Pictures’ top performers, ahead of another hyped sequel, Top Gun: Maverick, racking up more than 180 million views in a little over 48 hours.

Gladiator II, which comes 24 years after the original starring Russell Crowe as a revenge-seeking general-turned-slave, will debut Nov. 22, a week ahead of Thanksgiving.

New ‘Gladiator II’ Trailer: Paul Mescal Finds Strength and Honor
Image
A new “Gladiator 2” trailer is here, offering a more extensive preview of Paramount’s epic sequel to the Best Picture-winning 2000 film.

Ridley Scott is back in the director’s chair for the aptly named “Gladiator II,” which finds Paul Mescal playing the grown son of Connie Nielsen’s character from the first film, Lucius. In an epic journey that mirrors the one Crowe’s Maximus went on in “Gladiator,” the sequel finds Mescal crossing paths with those who wronged him in the gladiatorial arena with an A-list ensemble that includes Pedro Pascal and Denzel Washington. “With rage in his heart and the future of the Empire at stake, Lucius must look to his past to find strength and honor to return the glory of Rome to its people,” the official synopsis states.

David Scarpa, the screenwriter behind Scott’s “Napoleon” and “All the Money in the World,” wrote the...

How To Watch Divergent Movies In Order
Image
The Divergent franchise consists of three movies, all of which premiered one year after the other, making the order in which to watch Divergent, The Divergent Series: Insurgent, and The Divergent Series: Allegiant uncomplicated. Neil Burger directed the first film, while Robert Schwentke helmed the other two, but they were all produced by Lucy Fisher, Douglas Wick, and Pouya Shabazian and based on one of Veronica Roth's Divergent books. Similar to the movies, Roth published each installment in her Divergent trilogy annually, from 2011 to 2013, and didn't make fans wait very long to find out what happened next.

The Divergent movies chronicle a dystopian future where the world is divided into five factions based on virtues Abnegation, Amity, Candor, Dauntless, and Erudite. Abnegation contains the "selfless," Amity refers to the "peaceful," Candor is the "honest," Dauntless is considered the "brave," and Erudite features the "intelligent." When a child turns 16, the...

‘Gladiator II’ Star Paul Mescal Says There’s “A Beast” Within Onscreen Antagonist Pedro Pascal
Image
Anyone looking to pick a fight with Gladiator II‘s Pedro Pascal may want to think again, according to his co-star Paul Mescal, who speaks about the actor’s physical prowess in a new interview with Empire.

“I think I’d win in a fight between me and Pedro, but he’s deceptive,” said Mescal. “Pedro is one of the funniest men that I know, but he could f**k s**t up. Like, absolutely categorically. There’s a beast in there for sure.”

Mescal’s comments echo those of Pascal, who in an earlier interview with Vanity Fair, said he came to refer to his co-star as “Brick Wall Paul.”

“He got so strong,” recalled the actor. “I would rather be thrown from a building than have to fight him again. To go up against somebody that fit and that talented and that much younger….”
