Veteran TV director David Nutter has been selected to receive the Directors Guild of America’s lifetime achievement award for distinguished achievement in directing. He will receive the honors at the 76th Annual DGA Awards ceremony on Saturday, February 10, 2024.

Nutter is only the sixth director to receive the recognition, following James Burrows, Robert Butler, Joe Pytka, Don Mischer and Robert A. Fishman.

“David has had a truly phenomenal directing career on so many of the most high-profile series in episodic television,” said DGA president Lesli Linka Glatter. “To quote the cover of our own DGA Quarterly, David is truly the ‘King of the Pilots.’ His passion, creativity, and mastery of the craft over his expansive career underscores exactly why David serves as an inspiration to fellow directors everywhere. Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert have been named the best theatrical-film directors of 2022 for “Everything Everywhere All at Once” by the Directors Guild of America, which presented its 75th annual DGA Awards on Saturday night in Beverly Hills.

The two directors, who go by the name The Daniels, won for the freewheeling film, topping Steven Spielberg for “The Fabelmans,” Martin McDonagh for “The Banshees of Inisherin,” Todd Field for “Tar” and Joseph Kosinski for “Top Gun: Maverick.” They are only the third directing team to win the DGA Award, after the Coen brothers for “No Country for Old Men” and Robert Wise and Jerome Robbins for “West Side Story.”

The Directors Guild of America announced on Thursday the recipients of two of the guild’s top honors at the 75th annual DGA Awards.

First assistant director Mark Hansson will receive the 2023 Frank Capra achievement award, while stage manager Valdez Flagg will be honored with the Franklin J. Schaffner achievement award. Both honors are given in recognition of career achievement in the industry and service to the DGA.

“Mark Hansson and Valdez Flagg have steadfastly worked to support the rights of their fellow members while being two of the top directorial team professionals in our industry for more than 30 years,” says DGA president Lesli Linka Glatter in a statement. “The Guild thrives when talented members like Mark and Valdez step up and contribute to their Councils, Committees and our Guild priorities for the benefit of all members.”

The televised sports director will receive the lifetime achievement award for distinguished achievement in television direction at the guild’s Feb. 18 awards ceremony.

CBS Sports director Robert A. Fishman will receive one of the DGA Awards’ highest honors, the lifetime achievement award for distinguished achievement in television direction, at the org’s annual event in February.

Directors Guild of America President Lesli Linka Glatter announced the kudo on Tuesday. Fishman is only the fifth director to receive the TV direction lifetime achievement honor. Fishman will receive the accolade at the 75th Annual DGA Awards on Saturday, February 18, 2023.
