“I need you to take a look at this script”: Tom Hardy Had to be Convinced by Leonardo DiCaprio for One of the Best Movies of His Life That Landed Him in Trouble
Image
Tom Hardy is known for his transformative roles and incredible performances in films. He has performed to perfection in films such as Inception, Dunkirk, Legend, and Bronson, and has also starred in blockbusters such as Venom. He was last seen in The Bikeriders.

Despite phenomenal performances, Hardy has only received an Oscar nomination once for The Revenant as a supporting actor. The actor was reportedly convinced by co-star Leonardo DiCaprio to give the script a read after which Hardy agreed to join the film.

Tom Hardy
How Leonardo DiCaprio Shaped Tom Hardy’s Oscar-Nominated Role
Tom Hardy
Tom Hardy, the chameleon-like actor known for his diverse range of roles and commitment to character, owes one of his most acclaimed performances to fellow actor Leonardo DiCaprio. In a surprising revelation, Hardy disclosed that DiCaprio was instrumental in his casting for the role of John Fitzgerald in Alejandro G. Iñárritu’s “The Revenant.”

Hardy, whose career spans over two decades, has become a respected figure in Hollywood, admired by critics and fellow actors alike. Despite his versatility and dedication, Hardy has only received one Oscar nomination to date, a fact that puzzles many in the industry.

The story of Hardy’s involvement in “The Revenant” began with a personal call from DiCaprio. “Leo called me up and said, ‘Dude, I know you’re about to do something where you’re jumping out of helicopters and shooting guns and s***. But before you do that, I need you to take a look at this script.

Leonardo DiCaprio Is The Man To Thank For One Of Tom Hardy's Best Roles
Image
23 years into his film career, Tom Hardy is still impossible to pin down. Is he a leading man? A full-on movie star? A character actor? Would he be perfectly happy to just make Venom movies until he retires?

Here's what we do know about Hardy: he's handsome, he loves trying on weird accents (which we ranked here at /Film), and he commits fully to every role whether it's a prestige picture or a superhero flick. Critics dig him (even if they do not dig the "Venom" movies at all), and he's tremendously respected by his fellow actors. He's one of the best we've got. But it's been 16 years since his breakthrough bravura performance in Nicolas Winding Refn's "Bronson," and, for whatever reason, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences' membership has only managed to nominate him for one measly Oscar.

What gives?

While he's been magnificent in very...

10 Action Movies Where The Hero Isn't Who Kills The Villain
Image
While action movies are typically about the protagonist overcoming the antagonist, these ten action movies actually have someone besides the hero kill the villain. Oftentimes conflicts between action movie heroes and action movie villains end in one of two ways. Either the hero decides to kill the villain, or the hero lets the villain live in an attempt to be the bigger person. Having someone else kill the villain is an interesting bit of subversion, and these ten movies are well-known for taking that third option.

Villain deaths in action movies are often one of the most iconic parts of their respective films. Die Hard, Kill Bill, and all of the John Wick movies create antagonists so hateable that audiences want to see them put down, and then they do so in a spectacular way. Other times, the villain gets away, allowing for these antagonists to return in sequels. However,...
