Coming soon from director Julia Camara, Deadline reports today that Gravitas Ventures has acquired North American rights to Stronghold, said to be a post apocalyptic thriller.

Deadline previews today, “Stronghold is a dystopian tale of resilience in which a young survivalist and her mother live completely isolated in the woods. When a distressed stranger appears, their lives are disrupted and their future threatened.”

Bianca A. Santos and Jaqueline Fleming star alongside Oliver Rayón.

Executive producers for the upcoming Stronghold are Suzette Saffold, T. Bankolé, Jaqueline Fleming, Ken Mask, Greg Ward and Jaq Entertainment Group.

In addition to US & Canada; Gravitas wants to add Latin American territories in addition to Mexico including the Caribbean and sub territories.”

Toplining Camara’s cast are Bianca A. Santos and Jaqueline Fleming as the familial pair in peril, and Oliver Rayón as the stranger who threatens the isolated duo. The film premiered at the Pan African Film Festival in Los Angeles.

The deal was brokered by Gravitas Senior Director of Acquisitions, Bill Guentzler, and Jeffrey Cooper, Owner of Cut Entertainment Group.

Exclusive: Corbin Bernsen (Showtime’s City on a Hill), Timothy V. Murphy (TNT’s Snowpiercer) and Jeremy Holm (House of Cards) have signed on to star in the horror film Herd, from director Steven Pierce.

The indie co-written by Pierce and James Allerdyce tells the story of a woman who ends up trapped between a zombie outbreak and warring militias as she tries to outrun her past. Pierce is producing Herd as the inaugural feature under his newly-minted Fp banner, alongside Allerdyce, Lori Kay, Matt Mundy and Bret Carr. Production will commence in Missouri early next month.

Hell on the Border is a biographical western about the legendary Deputy U.S. Marshal, Bass Reeves. Born a slave in antebellum Arkansas, Reeves broke racial barriers by becoming the first black marshal west of the Mississippi River. Director/writer Wes Miller accurately portrays Reeves' struggle earning his badge; but fails mightily to produce a cohesive film. Following up on those new images from Timur Bekmambetov’s “Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter” that Todd posted yesterday, here are a half dozen more from the film. I’m still not sure if the movie is going to play it straight or go slightly camp with it. After all, we’re talking about Abraham Friggin Lincoln fighting vampires with an ax here. It’s kinda hard to go Too serious with something like that. Right? Then again, I guess it could work. I can’t really tell the tone of the film from anything that’s been released so far, and five new images don’t make it anymore apparent. With a title like “Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter”, it’ll be interesting to see what kind of tone they’re going with for the movie. From everything I’ve seen, it looks like a pretty dead-on serious film, similar to “Cowboys and Aliens”, another film where the title would seem to indicate a wacky, campy product. Turns out, that film was, for the most part, played pretty straight, with a dead-serious Daniel Craig. This not the first time this storyline has appeared on screen. “This is a remake of the 2008 film Reykjavik-Rotterdam, which Baltasar Kormákur also appeared in, featuring a new screenplay adaptation by Aaron Guzikowski.” The Contraband plot reminds me of the remake for Gone in Sixty Seconds where a criminal comes out retirement after another criminal related to them bungles a crime and will be killed.

Marking the directorial debut of The Hangover writers Jon Lucas and Scott Moore, the film centers on two friends who take their buddy out for his 21st birthday, which naturally spirals into an all-night adventure. The friends must ensure that the birthday boy makes his all-important med school interview the next day.
