In what other world could you see Marilyn Manson pull out Charles Manson’s skeleton or Mariah Carrey sing to a pitch that makes Jim Carrey’s head explode other than through glorious claymation? That’s right – it’s Celebrity Deathmatch, which pitted “rivals” against one another to see who came out the survivor. But could the show itself survive in 2025? Creator Eric Fogel thinks so.
Celebrity Deathmatch has been off the air for nearly 20 years – and even longer without Fogel, who wasn’t involved with the revival, which kicked off with Paris Hilton vs. Nicole Richie – yes, the show is very much of its time. And it’s that sort of element that Fogel thinks could make it ripe for a new generation. “That’s the beauty of the show — it’s timeless. These matches are iconic. While many shows from the past have been making comebacks with reboots and revivals, Celebrity Deathmatch is one that still has yet to make a return to the small screen. If you ask creator Eric Fogel, the time is now, as he believes Celebrity Deathmatch could be bigger than ever before in 2025.
Per People, Fogel reflected on creating Celebrity Deathmatch in a new interview, 28 years after he first pitched the series to MTV. He explained how he grew up as a fan of stop-motion animation, particularly Ray Harryhausen movies, along with other claymation TV shows of the era. As an adult, he started to see the potential in doing something with stop-motion animation, but with more of a rough edge.
"As I grew older, I became aware that there was maybe a market for a more adult animated content, and I thought that stop-motion animation in that adult space felt like unmarked territory,...

As Y2K nostalgia continues to dominate elements of Hollywood, one pop culture sensation of the era could make a comeback.
Following “a few false starts” over the years, Celebrity Deathmatch creator Eric Fogel recently discussed the possibility of rebooting his claymation series that originally ran on MTV from 1998 to 2002.
“That’s the beauty of the show — it’s timeless. These matches are iconic,” he told People. “You could literally open Google and type a few words, and you’ll get a whole bunch of new Celebrity Deathmatch ideas. It’s an evergreen concept.
“I was just browsing this morning. Dwayne Johnson and Vin Diesel hate each other. You know, Will Smith and Chris Rock probably still hate each other? Taylor Swift and Kanye West is still a match I’d like to visit in the ring. It feels like there are still some unresolved issues there.”

There is a very basic (and very dumb) question right at the heart of MTV's 1998 animated series "Celebrity Deathmatch": Who would win in a fight? It was a series based very directly on conversations held while extremely high while talking about one's favorite/least favorite celebrities, and who would best whom in hand-to-hand combat. "Celebrity Deathmatch" visualized such fights in a well-organized, animated pro-wrestling ring, where the celebrities in question could outwardly murder each other. For anyone who has ever taken a big bong rip and asked, "You think Marilyn Manson could take Charles Manson in a fight?", "Celebrity Deathmatch" was the series for you.
The series was created by Eric Fogel, who had created the MTV animated series "The Head" (the one that aired with "The Maxx"), and the pairings he and his writers invented were often ingenious. The fight between Penn & Teller and Siegfried & Roy is a fun one.

It's not uncommon for famous people to get parodied on animated programs in a less-than-flattering way. "South Park" does it all the time, and while "The Simpsons" oftentimes gets real-life celebrities to voice themselves as guests, there are times when they change the celeb's name and have someone else do their voice, usually if the portrayal is an outright parody of the person. (See: Rainier Wolfcastle and Dreaderick Tatum standing in respectively for Arnold Schwarzenegger and Mike Tyson in multiple episodes.) Then you've got MTV's "Celebrity Deathmatch," which originally ran from 1998 to 2002. For the younger readers out there, the show can be best described as WWE's "Monday Night Raw" meets "Mortal Kombat," but with claymation versions of celebrities taking part in violently over-the-top in-ring battles.
While many celebrities parodied on the above shows take it on the chin, there are some who can't help but get offended by their portrayals.

Peacock did not release as many original movies in 2024 as streamers like Netflix or Disney+ did, but it did have an interesting mix of feature-films and documentaries for subscribers throughout the year. While the streamer is known for being the home to everything that originally aired on NBC, its also the streaming home for new releases from Hallmark, and has a huge library of true crime documentaries.
In 2024, Peacocks original movies included a childrens movie, a remake of an action classic, and a story inspired by true events. Outside of those three movies, all of the rest of its feature-length content were documentaries. Most of it was definitely worth a watch by subscribers.
Many of these Peacock originals have since been made available to rent through other platforms, like AppleTV.

While Dreamworks Animation are known for their big franchises such as Shrek, Kung-Fu Panda, and How to Train Your Dragon, they also have notable standalone works amidst their output. One of their strongest is 2010’s Megamind, a witty take on cyclical comic-book rivalries that was sadly overshadowed by that year’s other supervillain-focused animation, Despicable Me. In the age of superhero movies dominating the conversation, a sequel to the Will Ferrell led animation is ripe for commentary. In part, some of their arguments came down to Ferrell's availability and voiceover experience.

The sequel to 2010’s legendary animated film Megamind was released recently on Peacock to negative responses and extreme criticism. Megamind vs. The Doom Syndicate acted as a sequel as well as a pilot for Peacock’s Megamind Rules! TV show. However, fans of the iconic film were not happy with the resulting product, with the film scoring a lousy 0%.
The sequel has been in the making for over ten years and has infuriated fans as their time has been wasted. The film is reportedly the worst-rated film by DreamWorks Animation, who are also awaiting the release of Kung Fu Panda 4. Despite being a popular IP, the film failed to impress any of the audiences, and here are three reasons behind the failure of the sequel.

Netflix ran two seasons of a series titled “Archibald’s Next Big Thing,” which will continue streaming on that platform. This new season — which is technically a new series based on Hale’s feathery character — consists of six episodes, which will launch Feb. 18 on NBCU’s Peacock.
Per “Archibald” studio DreamWorks Animation, “Archibald’s Next Big Thing Is Here” is the next chapter for Archibald Strutter, a chicken who “yes-and’s” his way through life. MTV Studios is set to revive their stop-motion animated series Celebrity Deathmatch, which featured various celebrities engaging in highly stylized and ultra violent wrestling matches.
The bloody caricature versions of these celebrities would engage in bloody combat by using different abilities and weapons to deliver particularly brutal attacks, resulting in exaggerated physical injuries.
It was a fun, silly, and mindless show that managed to entertain. With the way social media has fueled the flames of celebrity and fan rivals, it makes sense that MTV would want to bring it back now.
Series creator Eric Fogel will return to executive produce, along with Ice Cube, who will also star in the new take of the series. Chris McCarthy, president of MTV, VH1 and Cmt had this to say in a statement:

“We’re excited to grow our partnership with Ice Cube and Cube Vision to reimagine this fan favorite,” said Chris McCarthy, president of MTV, VH1 and Cmt. “’Deathmatch’ was the meme before memes, remains a hot topic on social media and will be a smart, funny way to tackle the over-the-top rhetoric of today’s pop culture where it belongs – in the wrestling ring.”

Before Uwe Boll started challenging critics to boxing matches or Drake and Chris Brown started scuffling, MTV had the idea to render all celebrity beefs, real or completely made up, into absurdly and occassionally very funny stop-motion animated vignettes. The show was Celebrity Deathmatch, with Nick Diamond and Johnny Gomez as our announcers, and the pit matches dreamed up by creator Eric Fogel, the man behind the rightly beloved MTV series The Head, ranged from the obvious (Madonna vs. Michael Jackson) to the outright bizarre (Charles Manson vs. Marilyn Manson). The show was cancelled in the late 1990s and then revived in the mid-aughts for two seasons on MTV2, and now, according to The Hollywood Reporter, the show is set to make its return to MTV2 with Fogler back on board as creator. [caption id="attachment_443179" align="alignright" width="348"] Image via MTV/caption] As THR explains, the new series will also incorporate more modern touches to the series,...

If we had unlimited amounts of money at our disposal, we’d spend huge chunks of it funding cool-sounding Kickstarter projects – projects like Havoc, which looks to break new ground in the world of stop-motion animation. Creator Eric Fogel is probably best remembered for being the brains behind MTV’s Celebrity Deathmatch – a weekly series featuring pop-culture celebs engaged in stop-motion fights to the death. The show was really popular for a stretch, thanks in no small part to the distinctive animation and over-the-top violence. Fogel’s looking to take those two elements that helped make Celebrity Deathmatch a hit and use them in his latest project, a feature-length film titled Havoc about a character who survives in a brutal postapocalyptic...

The stop-motion animation isn't going to cease any time soon. Nickelodeon has renewed Glenn Marin, Dds for a second season.
Glenn Martin, Dds revolves around a dentist, voiced by Kevin Nealon, and his family. After accidentally burning down their house, Glenn takes his family on a cross-country trip in a Winnebago. The show also stars the voice talent of Catherine O'Hara, Peter Oldring, Jackie Clarke, and Judy Greer.
The series has been very successful for Nick at Nite, attracting 2.1 million viewers per week and ranking as the most watched series for the cable channel's third quarter. As a result, the show's been picked up for another round of 20 episodes.
The series was co-created by Alex Berger, Eric Fogel, and former Disney CEO Michael Eisner. Reportedly, Eisner put up his own money to make the show's pilot episode.

Not many professionals would be chomping at the bit to become a power-suit sporting, text-crazy 11-year-old. Unless you are Jackie Clarke. She found the position to be well-suited to her comedic ambitions.
An experienced radio commentarian and television pundit, Clarke currently stars in the new Nickelodeon-Michael Eisner joint undertaking Glenn Martin Dds. The groundbreaking stop-animation series has her playing Courtney Conor, the lippy pre-teen daughter of a traveling dentist.
The Massachusetts-bred multi-talent was courted by the show's executive producer Eric Fogel, who refereed MTV's "Celebrity Deathmatch" for nearly ten years. The pair had worked before on his animated celebrity parody series "Starveillance."
But the bicoastal production proposal he was pitching to her this time would be a logistical and geographical constraint on her Los Angeles-based duties.

'Deathmatch' on mat for MTV2
NEW YORK -- MTV2 is getting back in the ring with Celebrity Deathmatch, the former hit MTV series that rendered celebrities as fighting Claymation figures. Deathmatch is one of a trio of new series MTV's sister channel is launching along with three other returning programs to its Sic 'Em Friday night block. MTV2 general manager David Cohn envisions the new slate adding to an "overall stronger attitude," he said. "MTV2 has a cool, different and unique tone." Deathmatch aired from 1998-2002, lampooning the likes of Hillary Clinton, Howard Stern and The Spice Girls. Eight new episodes will be premiering in November; which celebrities will be depicted hasn't been determined. Eric Fogel created the original Deathmatch but will not be working on its revival.
