'Ocean's Eleven' Star's, 54, Hit Legal Drama Finds a Streaming Home Ahead of New TV Series Adaptation
Image
1997 marked the establishment of Matt Damon as a household name. His greatest accomplishment of that year, of course, is the beloved Good Will Hunting, which he co-wrote with Ben Affleck and co-starred in with Affleck and Robin Williams, catapulting him to immediate success. However, less than a month prior, he got the chance to be the leading man in The Rainmaker, an adaptation of John Grisham's 1995 novel of the same name, written and directed by The Godfather mastermind Francis Ford Coppola. In the context of Damon's career, the legal drama largely exists in the shadow of the titanic roles that came after, from The Departed to Ocean's Eleven, The Martian, and beyond. Starting on July 1, though, viewers will have a chance to revisit the acclaimed film on Paramount+.

The Rainmaker pairs Damon up with Danny DeVito in one of the It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia star's rare dramatic roles.

Michael Cera Rejected 'Harry Potter' Role in 'Fantastic Beasts' Franchsie
Image
The Harry Potterfranchise is being rebooted by HBO for television, but the iconic property previously lived on thanks to the Fantastic Beasts film series. Despite featuring Eddie Redmayne, fresh off his Best Actor Oscar win, Fantastic Beasts failed to get off the ground after the three movies got increasingly poor reviews. However, an alternate reality would have seen The Phoenician Scheme star Michael Cera featured in the Harry Potter offshoot as a lead.

During an interview with Louis Theroux, Michael Cera revealed that he declined to engage in talks to star in the Harry Potter spin-off franchise Fantastic Beasts. He does not reveal what role he was up for, but it is possible that it was one of the main characters. Cera claims it was around a six-year commitment, so it could have been for Newt Scamander (Redmayne) himself. Other possibilities include Jacob Kowalski (Dan Fogler) and Credence Barebone (Ezra Miller...

How To Watch The Fantastic Beasts Movies In Order
Image
The three "Fantastic Beasts" movies, all directed by David Yates and written (or co-written) by the disreputable author J.K. Rowling, serve as prequels to the eight extant Harry Potter movies.

The Harry Potter series takes place at a remote British boarding school for witch-kids and wizard-children, but it is set in the present day; while Harry and his pals learn spells and fight mystical creatures, the outside world of ordinary humans continues in its usual fashion, unperturbed. Wizards pejoratively refer to ordinary people as Muggles, and their magical machinations are kept hidden from prying human eyes.

Meanwhile, the "Beasts" films are set in 1926, 1927, and 1932, long before Harry Potter was born. They star the nerdy Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne), a magizoologist who studies and cares for a menagerie of, well, fantastic beasts that only wizards know about. The movies take place in America, and come to involve a dangerous wizard criminal named Grindelwald,...

The Rainmaker Trailer Brings Back the USA Network Vibes We’ve Missed
Image
We’re calling it the official return of Blue Sky programming, and it can’t come too soon.

If you’ve been pining for the heyday of USA Network — when law was a little looser, characters were a little quirkier, and drama still knew how to have fun —The Rainmaker might just be the comeback you’ve been waiting for.

Today, the official trailer was released, and we admit it. It knocks our socks off.

(Courtesy of USA Network)

From the mind of John Grisham and the producers at Blumhouse and Lionsgate, The Rainmaker premieres on August 15 on USA, with episodes available on Peacock one week later.

It stars Milo Callaghan as Rudy Baylor, a scrappy new lawyer who loses one job before lunch and lands another under Lana Parilla‘s Bruiser, a no-nonsense attorney who runs her firm out of a rehabbed Taco Hut.

How Did Christian Serratos' Rosita Die On The Walking Dead?
Image
Few shows have had such fascinating, unlikely journeys as "The Walking Dead." Based on Robert Kirkman's best-selling Image Comics series of the same name, it was a cornerstone of AMC's programming for more than a decade, spawning an entire universe of spin-offs. It was also, for a time, the biggest show on cable before it experienced a pretty serious decline. It was quite the journey.

Over the course of the show's 11 seasons, quite a few characters came and went. Most of the time, they went because they died. Not everyone was as lucky as Andrew Lincoln's Rick Grimes, who left "The Walking Dead" during season 9 alive, only to return later in the spin-off series "The Ones Who Live." For the most part, any actor who left the show left because their character died. Such was the case with Rosita, played by Christian Serratos. Kind of.

Rosita came...

Given HBO’s History of Reusing Top Talent, One ‘The Last of Us’ S2 Star Could Join House of the Dragon Season 3
Image
HBO productions have been an unparalleled goliath in the small screen since the advent of prestige TV, starting with The Sopranos. While the network isn’t immune to mishaps, given its years-long dominance on TV, longtime viewers have come to expect quality whenever a show releases under the HBO banner.

While this boils down to HBO’s nature of venturing into untouched territories with its stories, marking a stark departure from networks that rely on established formats, one common link among them has been their impeccable actors. With Isabela Merced proving to be the next reliable talent with The Last of US season 2, it’s safe to say this won’t be her last rodeo with the network.

Juliet & Romeo Review: When Swordplay and Song Collide
JULIET & ROMEO, The Franchise Begins
Juliet & Romeo repositions Verona’s ancient feud within a neon‑tinged musical tapestry. Director Timothy Scott Bogart and composer Evan Kidd Bogart stitch Shakespeare’s narrative to a modern pop sensibility (think synth‑laced power ballads that nod to Swiftian craftsmanship). Clara Rugaard’s Juliet and Jamie Ward’s Romeo carry the film’s emotional core, though their duet numbers rarely outshine the production’s more exuberant ensemble set pieces.

Dante Ferretti’s sumptuous costumes—electric crimsons for Capulets, midnight blues for Montagues—pair with Byron Werner’s lensing to conjure an almost hallucinatory version of 14th‑century Italy. Sword fights erupt into choreographed dance‑offs, each cut suggesting a “sword ballet” that reframes violence as stylized pageantry. Filming in real Italian piazzas lends tangible gravity, even when lyrics soar into playful banter.

That pivot from tragedy to hopeful extravaganza, capped by a “Book Two” tease, invites reflection on why...

On-Air Film Review: Wherefore Art Thou for ‘Juliet & Romeo’
Image
Chicago – Patrick McDonald of HollywoodChicago.com appears on “The Morning Mess” with Josh Westcott for Wbgr-fm on May 8th, 2025, reviewing the new film “Juliet & Romeo,” a musical twist on Shakespeare’s immortal love story. In select theaters on May 9th.

Jamie Ward is Romeo, of the house of Montague, and Juliet (Clara Rugaard) is of the house of Capulet. Those two families clash in fair Verona for territory and are bitter rivals. But the two hot teens don’t care as they meet and fall in love, would a rose by any other name smell as sweet? While the conflict escalates between the two houses, The Apothecary (Dan Fogler) has developed a sleep potion that mimics death, and the Friar (Derek Jacobi) has a plan for the lovers to use it. Wherefore art thou, indeed.

”Juliet & Romeo” is in select theaters on May 8th. See local listings. Featuring Clara Rugaard,...

Juliet & Romeo Review — Pop Ballads Fall Short of Reinventing the Shakespearean Classic
Image
The push to find new angles on established stories has led audiences to some strange places. For the Disney live-action films, it’s ended in disaster, while the new approaches to Little Women, The Tragedy of Macbeth, and The Invisible Man led to critical success. Juliet & Romeo hopes to accomplish the same reinvention, providing its loaded ensemble with a pop ballad musical from the iconic music producer E. Kidd Bogart. Even though the music doesn’t always resonate, the visuals and choreography are remarkable in their own right.

Based on the classic story from Shakespeare, director Timothy Scott Bogart takes the tale back to its roots. Shooting in Italy and featuring a massive ensemble, we live out the events of the play in the 1300s. The Capulets and Montagues are fighting in Verona, and through a pop-ballad musical, the characters deliver their innermost thoughts.

Image
Disney+'s Andor recurring co-star, Joplin Sibtain, who played Brasso, is taking a trip to Westeros in House of the Dragon. His character in the science fiction series, which is part of the Star Wars franchise, was Cassian Andor's co-worker and friend. After having a devastating role to play in a Season 2 episode, the actor is now joining the cast of George R. R. Martin and Ryan Condal's series.

According to Deadline, Sibtain recently snagged a role in Season 3 of House of the Dragon. He's among a few new cast additions to the fantasy drama, which debuted in 2022 on HBO. Andor Star Joplin Sibtain Among New House Of The Dragon Season 3 Cast Additions
Image
Having won our hearts as proud Ferrixian and close pal of Cassian Andor Brasso in Tony Gilroy's Andor, Joplin Sibtain is heading out from a galaxy far, far away and across the Narrow Sea to Westeros as one of three new additions to Season 3 of HBO Game Of Thrones prequel House Of The Dragon. As reported by Variety, Sibtain is joining the fantasy juggernaut alongside The Gold's Tom Cullen and The Sandman Season 2 star Barry Sloane, with the trio set to play Ser “Bold” Jon Roxton, Ser Luthor Largent, and Ser Adrian Redfort respectively in Ryan Condal's Westerosi epic.

For those who haven't read George R.R. Martin's World Of Ice & Fire or Fire & Blood, Sibtain's character is allied to Alicent Hightower’s (Olivia Cooke) during the Targaryen civil war (aka 'The Dance of Dragons'), wielding the Valyrian steel sword Orphan-Maker with his noted "black temper" during the bloody conflict.

House of the Dragon season 3 adds Harlan Coben actor in one of three new roles
Image
It's been far too long since the most recent season of House of the Dragon concluded on HBO, and the wait for new episodes rages on and on, but at least we're continuing to receive news about what's to come in season 3. As filming continues on the highly anticipated third season, we just learned about three new cast members who have been cast in some key roles.

Revenge alum Barry Sloane joins the cast as Ser Adrian Redfort, who is one of the members of Rhaenyra Targaryen's Queensguard. Sloane has also appeared in shows like Hollyoaks, Longmire, Shameless, Six, and he will also appear in the upcoming second and final of The Sandman on Netflix. But as a Revenge fan, I know him best as Emily Thorne's former flame Aiden Mathis.

House of the Dragon season 3 also adds Tom Cullen as Ser Luthor Largent, who's a commander for the City Watch of King's Landing.

Image
The city of Verona is about to be filled with pop music this summer with the release of Juliet & Romeo, and yes, you read those names in the right order. A new spin on William Shakespeare's legendary tale of love and tragedy is coming soon from director Timothy Scott Bogart, taking direct inspiration from the same 1301 tale that spurred the Bard to craft the most famous lovers in all of fiction. It'll see Juliet and her Romeo, played by Black Mirror's Clara Rugaard and The Last Supper's Jamie Ward, respectively, not just defying the long-standing feud between the Montagues and the Capulets but the very conventions of Shakespeare's timeless story. As part of Collider's Exclusive Preview event for summer movies, we can share the official trailer for the musical film along with a conversation with the director, teasing the star-crossed romance ahead.
