Lita Ford Says Ozzy Osbourne “Changed My Life,” Dedicates Their Duet “Close My Eyes Forever” to Him
Image
“Close My Eyes Forever,” the powerful duet between Lita Ford and Ozzy Osbourne released in 1989, gave each artist their first Top 10 song on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. In the wake of Ozzy’s passing on Tuesday (July 22nd), Ford said that the metal icon changed her life, while also dedicating the song to him at her concert on Wednesday.

Ford checked in with SiriusXM’s Trunk Nation With Eddie Trunk the day after Ozzy’s death (as transcribed by Blabbermouth), telling the host, “He changed my life, from the time I was 13 years old going to [a] Black Sabbath concert. That was it. That was the day and the night the light bulb went off over my head, and I just thought, ‘I have to do this. This is what I wanna do…. And so that night I came out of there, and I knew what I was gonna do with my future.

Lita Ford Remembers Ozzy Osbourne: ‘In Ozzy’s Name, Keep Rocking’
Image
“Can you believe I’m in Ozzy’s hometown tonight?” It’s a quarter to ten, and Lita Ford, 66, is backstage at K.K. Downing’s club in Birmingham, zipped into leather, the air thick with anticipation and sweat. Ford is about to deliver what will be the most wrenching live performance of “Close My Eyes Forever” — her aching 1989 power ballad with Ozzy Osbourne that became Osbourne’s first and only Top 10 hit.

“It’s going to be really emotional,” she says. “I didn’t tear up until I turned...

Why the World Never Fell Out of Love with the Prince of Darkness
Image
Ozzy Osbourne told Rolling Stone in 2002 he already knew what his epitaph would say. “I guarantee that if I was to die tonight, tomorrow it would be, ‘Ozzy Osbourne, the man who bit the head off a bat, died in his hotel room …’” he said. “I know that’s coming.” He’d made his peace with that fate. “I’ve got no complaints. At least I’ll be remembered.” But Ozzy got this one wrong. The world is in mourning for him, after the news of his death yesterday at...

Ozzy Osbourne, Godfather of Heavy Metal, Dead at 76
Image
Ozzy Osbourne died at the age of 76 on Tuesday morning, July 22nd.

“It is with more sadness than mere words can convey that we have to report that our beloved Ozzy Osbourne has passed away this morning,” his family said in a statement. “He was with his family and surrounded by love. We ask everyone to respect our family privacy at this time.”

No cause of death was given, though the last several years leading up to his passing had been a rough ride for Ozzy in terms of his health. He was forced to postpone his “No More Tours 2” farewell tour, first due to a bout with pneumonia, then due to a serious fall while at home in Los Angeles, which resulted in multiple surgeries. In early 2020, he went public with Parkinson’s disease, just before the pandemic hit.

Despite his ailments, Osbourne mustered the strength to play one...

Ozzy Osbourne Would Like to Do a Duet with Paul McCartney
Image
Ozzy Osbourne has professed his love for The Beatles in the past, and now the Prince of Darkness is putting it out there that he’d love to do a duet with Paul McCartney.

The conversation came about on a new episode of Ozzy’s SiriusXM show Ozzy Speaks, which he co-hosts with musician Billy Morrison.

Morrison asked the metal icon, “Is there people that you’d like to do a duet with?,” to which Ozzy immediately responded, “Paul McCartney.” Morrison noted, “I think it’s good that we have this show so we can both say, ‘Paul, if you’re listening, it’s about time,’ with a sheepish Ozzy adding, “No, I would be honored but I couldn’t…”

Morrison then questioned why Ozzy would be hesitant to do the duet, insisting, “Why not? … Put it out into the universe. You never know.”

Ozzy, who mentioned that the best...

Lita Ford: “Kristen Stewart Is Not One of My Favorite People, and Neither Is Joan Jett”
Image
Guitarist Lita Ford was not pleased with the 2010 biopic The Runaways, saying it wasn’t an accurate depiction of her former band of the same name, while adding she’s no fan of ex-bandmate Joan Jett or actress Kristen Stewart (who played Jett in the movie).

The film starred Dakota Fanning as singer Cherie Currie, Scout Taylor-Compton as Ford, and Stewart as Jett, with most of the attention focused on Currie and Jett, as well as manager Kim Fowley (played by Michael Shannon).

In a new interview with The Boom Boom Room, hosted by former boxer Ray “Boom Boom” Mancini, Ford reflected on the movie. “I felt that The Runaways movie was all about Joan, and the stories that they told about Joan were just not accurate,” said Ford (as transcribed by Blabbermouth). “They really made her to look larger than life. And I just...

‘Something Beautiful With Miley Cyrus’ Review: The Star Co-Directs an Album’s Worth of Music Videos, Celebrating Her Sexuality…and Herself
Image
It’s the rare pop star who doesn’t use his or her sexuality in some way. But the current moment, typified by stars like Chappell Roan, Sabrina Carpenter, and Charli xcx, tends to be about showcasing one’s sexuality ironically, or with an acid flippancy, or from behind a mask, or with a certain cool stance of meta control.

Miley Cyrus never got that memo. In “Something Beautiful,” a 55-minute visual album comprised of music videos, co-directed by Cyrus (with Jacob Bixenman and Brendan Walter), of the 13 tracks from her just-released album, Cyrus struts and pouts and lets it all out, she throws her body around like a gymnastic weapon, and in a way she throws her beauty around, as though she were trying to sear the power of her erotic presence into our souls.

At the Tribeca Festival, where the “Something Beautiful” visual album premiered tonight, the audience cheered every femme fatale glower,...

David Lee Roth Is Back — With More Van Halen Songs Than Ever
Image
As Alex Van Halen told Rolling Stone last fall, a tour reuniting the drummer and David Lee Roth didn’t come to fruition after Eddie Van Halen’s death in 2020. But at the M3 Rock Festival in Columbia, Maryland, Saturday night, Van Halen fans were accorded the next best thing: Roth’s return to the stage after five years, playing a set comprised completely of songs from his former band.

Other than a corporate gig for Home Depot in 2023, the last time most people saw Roth onstage was more than five years ago,...

The Original Yellowjackets Pitch Has Some Major Differences
Image
I go wild for television series bibles. These are the mini-books that lay out what a show is, who the characters are, and which guide the writers as they take us on a journey with those characters. It's especially fascinating to comb over what changed and try to suss out why.

"Yellowjackets" is no exception. As the popular Showtime horror-mystery series closes out its third season, the show has come a long way from series creators Ashley Lyle and Bart Nickerson's original pitch deck. That pitch was cited in 2021 as an example of how to sell a show correctly, and has made the usual rounds on social media.

The basics of the story we know are there in those nine pages. A high school girls soccer team is on a flight to Nationals when the plane crashes in the Wilderness. They're left stranded in the wild for almost two years before rescue comes.

Five Road Trip Horror Movies to Stream This Week
Image
Summer is winding to a close, though the blistering sun has not yet received the memo. That means the final days of vacationing or summer road trips are in order. Of course, horror has taught us the myriad of ways that the open road can induce abject terror and stress; flat tires are the least of your summer worries in horror.

Films like The Hitcher, Near Dark, and Splinter highlight how car troubles, creepy rest stops, and seedy motels don’t compare to humanity’s worst- human or otherwise- prowling the highways.

This week’s streaming picks are dedicated to road trip horror movies. These five titles exploit our travel anxieties by pitting their protagonists against vampires, cannibals, psychopaths, and the devil himself over vast stretches of highway.

Here’s where you can stream them this week.

After a recent diagnosis of Lewy body dementia and multiple system atrophy in May 2024, I am unable to perform at the level I desire and at the level you deserve. Words cannot express my gratitude for the many years of memories, love and support. Thank you for letting me live my dreams.”

Lewy body dementia (Lbd) is the second most common cause of neurodegenerative dementia after Alzheimer’s disease, and Ldb is often misdiagnosed as Alzheimer’s or Parkinson’s disease due the similarity of symptoms such as motor and muscle weakness and rigidity, as...

Image
Ronnie James Dio helps director Don Coscarelli craft the classic “Last in Line” music video in a new clip from the upcoming documentary, Dio: Dreamers Never Die. The film will get a special two-night theatrical run on Sept. 28 and Oct. 2.

In the clip, Coscarelli explains hearing “Last in Line” for the first time and bringing Dio an original idea centered around a simple notion: “teenagers in hell.” Coscarelli credited Dio with giving the premise some added depth: “He basically told me, ‘From birth to death, we’re all in a line,...

Riverdale (2017)
Riverdale Uses Superhero Tropes to Its Advantage
Riverdale (2017)
This Riverdale review contains spoilers.

Riverdale Season 6 Episode 14

“Welcome to the sad superhero club…”

It’s a bird! It’s a plane! It’s a…shirtless Archie Andrews! With its latest installment, Riverdale‘s current superhero saga proved that it isn’t afraid to liberally borrow tried and true superhero tropes in order to advance the storyline of Archie’s mighty crusaders squaring off against the increasingly diabolical (and somewhat annoyingly impervious) Percival Pickens. As a lifelong Archie Comicsfanatic, I’ll admit that it is a bit jarring to hear these characters namecheck their DC characters, but it is all in service to the grand storyline here…not to mention corporate synergy. (Warner Bros owns DC Comics and half of The CW itself).

So quicker than you can say “Berlantiverse,” this latest episode had Archie and Jughead browsing the latter’s comic collection when they stumble upon the idea that...

Twisted Sister’s Dee Snider Honors Victims of 2003 Station Nightclub Fire With New Song, ‘Stand’
Image
Twisted Sister frontman Dee Snider, who is featured in a Reelz documentary about the Warwick, Rhode Island Station nightclub fire, which killed some 100 attendees of a Great White concert in 2003, has released a new song to honor the victims called “Stand.”

The song, one of 12 from Snider’s new album, “Leave a Scar,” is featured in “America’s Deadliest Rock Concert: The Guest List,” which chronicles the events leading up to and after the tragedy through deeply personal stories of fans who were there.

The Feb. 20, 2003 fire was caused by illegal soundproofing materials and pyrotechnics — 100 people died and more than 200 were injured. Some of those fans had met Great White lead singer Jack Russell earlier that day at a local establishment, and he generously offered to put them on his personal guest list to see the show.

The film features interviews with a tearful Russell, family members, survivors, attorney John Barylick,...

Suzi Quatro
‘Suzi Q’ Film Review: Rock Documentary Makes a Case for Suzi Quatro
Suzi Quatro
The shorthand summary of the story of Suzi Quatro story is simple: a pioneering female rock ‘n’ roll musician from Detroit who became a big star overseas in the 1970s but couldn’t find the same appreciation at home. And “Suzi Q,” a film by Liam Firmager that premieres on VOD this week, tries to right that imbalance, trotting out an array of female musicians to testify about Quatro’s importance in helping establish the very idea that it was Ok for women to pick up instruments and play rock alongside the guys.

That’s a worthy goal for the film, given Quatro’s influence on people like Joan Jett, Debbie Harry, the Talking Heads’ Tina Weymouth and the Go-Go’s Kathy Valentine, among others. Valentine, for one, said she’d never even thought of women playing instruments — and then she saw Quatro on the British TV show “Top of the Pops,...

Ozzy Osbourne
Ozzy Osbourne will always be the quintessential heavy-metal maniac, but at heart, he’s an old-school song man. His new single — the nostalgic, bittersweet, Elton John–featuring title track off his upcoming solo LP, Ordinary Man — is the latest in a long line of tender ballads from the Beatles-worshipping singer, stretching all the way back to Black Sabbath torch songs like “Changes.” And while it might seem odd to hear the Prince of Darkness sharing mic time with the Rocket Man, he’s also proved himself to be a die-hard...

Hairstylist Marcel Dagenais shares Natasha Lyonne’s ‘incredible hair’ secrets for ‘Russian Doll’ and the final season of ‘Broad City’ [Exclusive Video Interview]
“She has probably the amount of three people’s heads on her one head,” Marcel Dagenais says about the “incredible hair” of “Russian Doll” star Natasha Lyonne in an exclusive interview with Gold Derby (watch the video above) about his role on the new Netflix dramedy as head hairstylist. He explains, “Without any love or any kind of styling, it can get very large, so with that, I was just trying to contain it and really define the curl, while still trying to make it cool and not too overdone.” Drawing inspiration from 80s rock stars like Lita Ford of The Runaways and Kim Gordon of Sonic Youth, Dagenais explains that he took a “very chill, not too made-up” approach to shaping “a very New York-centric, Lower Eastside, 90s cool chick” with Lyonne’s character Nadia Vulvokov.

Brie Larson in Captain Marvel (2019)
Hear the ‘Captain Marvel’ Soundtrack Dominated by ’90s Girl-Power Anthems (Videos)
Brie Larson in Captain Marvel (2019)
“Captain Marvel” is going to give “Guardians of the Galaxy” a run for its money. While that film had a killer ’80s mixtape, the soundtrack for “Captain Marvel” is loaded with ’90s radio staples and girl rock anthems that perfectly set the tone of female empowerment and energy. In fact, the film is so loaded with ’90s nostalgia that in one scene after Brie Larson’s Carol Danvers has landed in Earth, she’s standing in front of a wall covered in ads for new albums by Smashing Pumpkins, Bush, 311 and Pj Harvey. So get out your Discman and check out these songs all featured prominently in the film.
