Superman & Lois has an abundance of great Superman villains it can bring aboard the series. On Superman & Lois, Tyler Hoechlin's Man of Steel has had to overcome a number of challenging adversaries from DC Comics. The show has already introduced the Eradicator, Bizarro, and Parasite, with season 3 bringing in Bruno Mannheim and Lex Luthor

While Superman & Lois has done a fantastic job of mining lesser-known Superman villains, there is also a plethora of other villains for the show to incorporate. Some are also villains who have been seen relatively little in movies and TV, while others have been adapted repeatedly. Regardless, his deep rogues' gallery presents the series with all sorts of storytelling opportunities. Gay drama Burning Blue arrives in select theaters and on VOD tomorrow. The film is based on the Off-Broadway play by Dmw Greer and centers on two Navy fighter pilots during the “Don’t Ask Don’t Tell” era. So, basically sounds like Brokeback meets Top Gun– which might not be a bad mix at all.

Honorable in intent but risible in execution, Burning Blue is a melodrama about a fighter jet crash investigation that becomes a witch-hunt for gay naval aviators.

Its inspiration was not Top Gun's oft-remarked homoeroticism, but co-screenwriter and director Dmw Greer's own experiences as a Navy pilot in the '80s, long before President Obama abolished Don't Ask, Don't Tell in 2011.

Greer first staged this story as a play in London in 1995. No one goes to the theater expecting to see aerial dogfights depicted realistically, but onscreen, the low budget (and unsurprising lack of U.S. Navy cooperation) is more distracting.

The Navy is governed by a string of stringent rules, codes of conduct and tradition. But what happens when you break those bonds to pursue something personal, intimate and passionate? The upcoming drama "Burning Blue" dives right into that question, and today we have an exclusive clip from the film. Co-written and directed by D.M.W. Greer, making his directorial debut, the film stars Trent Ford, Morgan Spector, Rob Mayes, William Lee Scott, Cotter Smith and more and follows a Navy squadron torn apart after an investigation is launched following a string of accidents. And things get more heated when an affair between two of the pilots is exposed, with this scene highlighting the fragility of the situation. “Two Navy fighter pilots fall in love in the ‘Don’t Ask Don’t Tell’ era.” Seems like the new movie from Lionsgate took its inspiration from of Top Gun and Brokeback Mountain, but actually the film is based on a 1992 Off-Broadway play of the same name. The new film is co-written by Dmw Greer, who wrote the original play. The cast includes Trent Ford (Gosford Park), Morgan Spector (Boardwalk Empire), Rob Mayes (The Client List) and Tammy Blanchard (Life with Judy Garland: Me and My Shadows).

Chicago – In November of 2013, the 31st annual Chicago Lgbt International Film Festival, also known as “Reeling31,” provided a week long showcase for gay filmmakers. There were many new voices in the mix, and they were on the Red Carpet on opening night of the Fest.

HollywoodChicago.com was on the scene, which took place at the historic Music Box Theatre in Chicago. The stars of the opening night feature film. “G.B.F,” were there for interviews and photos, plus filmmakers and actors from the films “Burning Blue,” “The Happy Sad’ and “Truth” – which were shown throughout the week – also walked the fabled Red Carpet.

The “Reeling” Festival is currently sponsoring a free film series in Chicago, the fourth annual “Cinema Q.” The last week of the series will present “De-Lovely” (2004) – starring Kevin Kline as Cole Porter – on March 26th, 6:30pm, at Chicago’s Cultural Center, 78 East Washington Street.

Familiar faces to fans of Make It or Break It and The Vampire Diaries have been cast on one of the The CW's most anticipated pilots.

According to Deadline, Zachary Abel will play the lead on Shelter, an upcoming drama from Mark Schwahn and J.J. Abrams that focuses on life at an historic New England summer resort. The actor is set to portray Mitchell Taylor, a local baseball star-turned-concierge.

Malese Jow, meanwhile, will portray a party girl in town.

Jow joins Trent Ford on the series, who also recurred on The Vampire Diaries as Trevor.

The CW's "Shelter" pilot is rounding out its cast. As if we didn't already love the script enough, executive producers J.J. Abrams and Mark Schwahn have now chosen Malese Jow -- one of our favorites -- to play Morgan, a 22-year-old "party girl" type who works at the Shelter Bay Inn.

Best known for her role as teen vampire Anna on "Vampire Diaries" and Lucy on Nickelodeon's "Big Time Rush," this role is definitely a more adult turn for Jow. Let's just say Morgan's reputation for promiscuity isn't exactly unfounded. Homegirl likes to spread the wealth.

In fact, one of her lust interests is faded rocker Tyler Green, played by fellow "Vampire Diaries" alum Trent Ford --  though the two never shared scenes together on "Tvd."

"Shelter" is shooting in North Carolina. The casting was first reported by Deadline.

Vampire Diaries alumna Malese Jow and former Make It or Break It star Zachary Abel have joined The CW’s buzzy drama pilot Shelter.

From executive producers Mark Schwahn and J.J. Abrams, the project centers on the staff and guests at an historic New England summer resort, Shelter Bay Inn. Not unlike both EPs’ previous primetime soaps (One Tree Hill and Felicity, respectively), Shelter will navigate friendships, rivalries and romances.

Abel has been cast as leading man Mitchell Taylor, a hopelessly romantic former local baseball hero who now mans the concierge desk at the inn, our sister site Deadline reports.

The Real Housewives star — who’s made a handful of appearances on Glee this season — has joined the cast of Murphy’s NBC comedy pilot The New Normal.

Also among the latest wave of pilot castings: a Vampire Diaries alum returns to The CW, Notorious adds a Breakout Kings vet and more.

As for Leakes, she joins the project — which centers on a modern-day blended family of a gay couple and their surrogate — as the heavily recurring character, Rocky.

The Cape star David Lyons has been cast in the Jj Abrams/Eric Kripke NBC drama pilot, directed by Jon Favreau, about a group of survivors in a world where all forms of energy have mysteriously ceased to exist. He will play the charismatic Marine Bass, a role which became vacant after Billy Burke, who was originally cast in the role, was just promoted to play the lead Miles. Burke’s deal for that has now closed. Also cast in the pilot is Maria Howell in the supporting role of the regal and fiercely intelligent Grace. Trent Ford (The Vampire Diaries) has been cast in a supporting role in another Abrams-produced drama pilot, the CW’s Shelter, set at an historic New England summer resort. Ford, repped by Global Artists Agency and Luber Roklin, will play Tyler Green, a former British rock star staying in the penthouse at the Shelter Bay Inn.

The La Times recently chatted with Vampire Diaries producer Julie Plec,and she revealed a couple new season 2 spoilers that we can look forward to seeing in episode 19. It’s Thursday which means that it is time for a new episode of The Vampire Diaries, not only that but Ausiello over at Entertainment Weekly scored some casting scoop that looks like it could shake things up even more for our favourite residents of Mystic Falls. Trent Ford (The West Wing (TV), The Class) and Daniel Gillies (Spider-Man 2 (2004), True Blood (TV)) have been cast as Trevor and Elijah, executive Julie Plec has revealed that “They have deep ties to Katerina Petrova, they will be heavily featured in November Sweeps episodes “Rose” and “Katerina”.” They join Lauren Cohan, who was announced as a guest star a couple of weeks ago who will play Rose, the titular character of one of the November sweeps episodes.

NEW YORK -- Trent Ford, Jamie Murray and Autumn Reeser are starring in the dark comedy Possessions for first-time writer/director Nathan Adolfson. Ford (How to Deal) plays a suicidal man with cancer haunted the voice of a Frenchman, who seems to be taking over his body.

The man and the voice in his head form an odd quadrangle with Murray (Dexter) and Reeser (The OC). The 5858 Films production begins shooting Friday in Los Angeles.

A fitfully funny ensemble comedy set during lunch hour in a not-so-secluded Los Angeles park, Kurt Voelker's Park ultimately gets stuck in neutral.

While it has its bright spots and a cast including William Baldwin, Ricki Lake and Saturday Night Live alumna Cheri Oteri, the broadly played picture ends up feeling like a lost -- if racier -- episode of Love, American Style.

Having covered the film festival circuit for the past couple of years, where it has played well with adult audiences, the independently distributed Park strolls into select theaters this weekend, but given the crowded marketplace, its horizons aren't looking particularly green.

Voelker, who makes his feature directorial debut here after logging screenwriting credits including 2001's Sweet November remake, ensures there's no shortage of situations in his comedy.

Among those converging on the Sunny Park ground nestled high in the Hollywood Hills are the suicidal April (Dagney Kerry), who is finding it increasingly challenging to off herself, as well as the nerdy Ian (David Fenner), a mobile pet groomer who has a crush on his comely Polish co-worker, Krysta (Izabella Miko), who has subsequently been engaged in a hot and heavy affair with Dennis (William Baldwin), an obnoxious attorney with a fetish for his SUV.

Spying on Krysta and Dennis getting it on in said vehicle are his wife, Peggy (Ricki Lake), and her best friend, Claire (Cheri Oteri). They're about to seek revenge for his infidelities but also are beginning to wonder if they might have a latent connection to the L-word.

Meanwhile, over in another vehicle, co-workers Meredith (Anne Dudek) and Sheryl (Melanie Lynskey) are about to find out exactly what their colleagues Nathan (Trent Ford) and Babar (Maulik Pancholy) enjoy doing with each other during their lunch hours at the park.

It's all harmlessly naughty at the outset, but when it comes to juggling all those characters and their intersecting scenarios, Voelker lacks the dexterity of, say, Robert Altman.

While things soon turn a tad repetitive, a few of the performances generate a pleasant comic spark, especially those by the hapless Kerry and the defensive Dudek.

On the opposite side of Christophe Lanzenberg's busy camera, composers John Pratt and Michael Alemania furnish the quirky/perky themes that blend neatly with an inspired song selection featuring Pink Martini, Steve Tyrell, Nina Simone and the Indigo Girls.

September Dawn, opening in limited release from Black Diamond Pictures, is a solemn package of historical fiction and an exceedingly old-fashioned one at that. It is also quite controversial among Western historians and the Mormon community, but this alone is unlikely to boost boxoffice. History teachers everywhere could rent this indie for years to come; otherwise, the market is a small one.

Director/co-writer/producer Christopher Cain's ambitious pioneer picture tells the story of the little-known Mountain Meadows Massacre of Sept. 11, 1857, in the Utah Territory. The event represented a low point in Mormon history, and many aspects and details of the incident are still debated to this day. In a small but key role, an aged Brigham Young (Terence Stamp) is seen in isolated testimony and heard in voice-over, punctuating the drama with spiteful rhetoric that the filmmakers (including co-screenwriter Carole Whang Schutter) claim they lifted from Young's own words.

The principal story line is anything but verbatim history, and the screenplay is the weakest aspect of the film. Jacob Samuelson (Jon Voight), an invented amalgam of extremist Mormon deacons and military generals, has two young-adult sons: Jonathan (Trent Ford), the more handsome, sensitive and progressive of the two, tames wild horses. Micah (Taylor Handley) is his more obedient, unquestioning brother.

When a wagon train of humble Christians traveling from Arkansas to California asks to settle in for a few weeks of rest in a valley outside Cedar City, Utah, Jonathan locks eyes with sweet, young Emily (Canada's Tamara Hope), who is the minister's daughter. It is the young man's first encounter with outsiders, and he begins to stand up to his own martinet father (who is less God-fearing than godlike).

Samuelson still blames Missourians not only for rejecting the Latter-Day Saints years earlier but for the death of the Mormon prophet Joseph Smith (Dean Cain, the director's son, in a cameo). Apparently believing in guilt by association -- since Arkansas is near Missouri? -- he stirs up Cedar City congregants into a frenzy. He enlists deacon/lieutenant John D. Lee (an effective Jon Gries) in his scheme and dupes the local Paiute tribe into believing the worst about the innocent pioneers. All this builds toward a horrific attack that Jonathan tries his best to thwart.

Samuelson and the budding Romeo and Juliet are fictitious, but John D. Lee and other bits of the film are real, or at least based on research. (The LDS Church has been denouncing this picture for quite a while.) The performances are satisfactory, including an underused Lolita Davidovich, even if Voight appears to have left restraint in his trailer. Director Cain (The Stone Boy, Young Guns), a South Dakota native, has spent his film career outdoors. While this is weightier material than he typically handles, Cain has crafted a modest picture, filmed in Canada, that too often feels like a very elaborate episode of Gunsmoke.

It's quite apparent -- right down to the hot pink lettering in the advertising -- that the distributor of "Slap Her ... She's French" would very much like it to be mistaken for another "Legally Blonde".

The only problem is, the Reese Witherspoon picture wasn't a gratingly unfunny groaner littered with zero-dimensional, unlikable characters and hackneyed, threadbare comic setups.

Fortunately, few -- aside from those who might mistake this German-financed production for a breezy foreign-language art house import -- will take the bait, ensuring that "Slap Her" beats a hasty retreat to the video store.

Wasting a potentially workable "All About Eve" premise, the film concerns the seemingly charmed life of one Starla Grady (Jane McGregor), the most popular student at Splendona High School, located somewhere deep in the heart of Texas.

That is, until one fateful day when, needing to amp up a little audience sympathy during another beauty pageant (Sending up pageants? How novel!), she announces her family will be taking in an exchange student from Paris in yet another gesture of her unfailing goodwill.

Enter the mousy, bespectacled Genevieve LePlouff (Piper Perabo), who seemingly worships the ground Starla struts upon. The beret and really bad French accent might fool some people, but it's clear from the get-go that Genevieve, or whatever her name really is, has major plans to dethrone her not-so-gracious hostess.

Naturally, Starla doesn't take kindly to people attempting to appropriate her life, and with a little detecting assistance from her bookish kid brother (Jesse James) and the nice-guy school photographer (Trent Ford), she exposes Genevieve as a vengeance-crazed wannabe.

But Genevieve isn't the real culprit here -- it's writers Lamar Damon and Robert Lee King and director Melanie Mayron who are truly deserving of a group smack.

Rather than striving for anything resembling sharply observed satire, the filmmakers have instead opted to mine lazy laughs from tired targets, and the bottom-feeding results leave behind an irritating, slimy residue.

While King, who directed the appropriately campy "Psycho Beach Party", and Damon seem to be biding their time until the next cat fight, actress-turned-director Mayron allows all the squandered comic opportunities to fall with an awkward thud, as if anticipating a laugh track to bail her out.

The cast, which also includes Julie White, Brandon Smith and Michael McKean as an improbable French teacher (maybe that's where Perabo learned the lame accent), doesn't fare much better, while the technical aspects, including the work of production design team Anne Stuhler and Roswell Hamrick ("Boiler Room", "Made"), are more proficient than the picture deserves.
