A Popular Doctor Who Season 14 Theory Coming True Would Have Been Insulting To A Former Companion Actor
Image
Doctor Who season 14 marked a huge turning point for the classic sci-fi television show, bringing back showrunner Russell T. Davies for a completely new era of adventures and mysteries. As with the arrival of any new actor playing the Doctor, this season of Doctor Who was filled with exciting backstory and character-building moments that rendered it much slower-paced than most other seasons, but there were still some gripping storylines that ran throughout. One of this seasons biggest mysteries pertained to the character of Susan, who first appeared in 1963 as the Doctors granddaughter.

Susans name was teased multiple times throughout the season, leading fans to theorize that she would return in the finale in the form of Susan Triad, a recurring face that had been appearing on the Doctors adventures. However, this later proved to be a red herring as Triad was revealed to be an emissary of Sutekh, the God...

Why Was Susan Written Out of Doctor Who?
Image
Since Doctor Who began in 1963, the series has followed the adventures of the Doctor and their companions through time and space. Often, it is the companions' stories that drive the sci-fi series. The Doctor, despite their changing appearance, remains more or less constant, while companions come and go and all are changed by their time on the Tardis. The very first companion to appear on Doctor Who was Carole Ann Ford's Susan Foreman, the Doctor's own granddaughter. In Doctor Who's first ever episode, "An Unearthly Child," Susan appeared on screen several scenes before William Hartnell's Doctor had even made his first appearance, cementing her as the focal point of the story.

Ford remained at the heart of Doctor Who throughout its first season, providing a point of connection for the series' young viewers. Susan was often the most impulsive and intuitive of the series' four original leads...

After That Episode, Doctor Who Can't Avoid The 1 Companion Return I Most Want To See
Image
Warning: Major spoilers ahead for Doctor Who season 14, episode 7, "The Legend of Ruby Sunday."

Companions returning to Doctor Who always bring excitement, like Billie Piper's iconic comeback as Rose Tyler in season 4. Susan Twist's misdirect in season 14 sets up Susan Foreman's potential return, a long overdue event in Doctor Who history. Carole Ann Ford is open to reprising her role as Susan, meaning a possible Time Lord family reunion could happen on screen.

Doctor Who has been teasing the comeback of a classic companion since the beginning of Ncuti Gatwa's run as the Fifteenth Doctor, and after the events of season 14's penultimate episode, I'd be incredibly surprised if they didn't come back to the show at some point in the near future. Companions returning to Doctor Who after an absence - no matter how brief - is always an exciting moment. Billie Piper's return as...

A classic series foe, Sutekh, returns and reigns supreme in the trailer for Doctor Who season 14's epic finale, "Empire of Death." In his debut season, Ncuti Gatwa's Fifteenth Doctor and Ruby Sunday have witnessed a woman named Susan Twist appearing in their adventures, who is later revealed to be tech entrepreneur Susan Triad. Varada Sethu and Ncuti Gatwa in Doctor Who (2023)
Doctor Who Season 1 Episode 7 Review: The Legend of Ruby Sunday
Varada Sethu and Ncuti Gatwa in Doctor Who (2023)
The Doctor and Ruby wanted answers but were left only with more questions -- and one of the scariest monsters yet to deal with.

On Doctor Who Season 1 Episode 7, The Doctor turned to Unit for help, putting people he cared about in danger, before learning the heartbreaking truth about the woman following him everywhere.

There were plenty of lighthearted moments in what was a scary first half of the season finale, making this story one of the strongest and most on-brand episodes in a while.

Some Great Reunions for the Doctor

Despite the Doctor's protests that he doesn't want to ruin any more lives, he was happy and excited to spend time with his friends in Unit and the surrounding areas.

I especially enjoyed Rose Noble (Yasmin Finney)'s appearance. She didn't have much to do, but she and Ruby quickly bonded over being two young women around the same...

The Doctor's Greatest Loves In Doctor Who
Image
The Doctor is one Time Lord who doesn't like the thought of settling down. Since Doctor Who began back in 1963, the Doctor has been flying through time and space, never staying in one place or keeping the same companions. The character's alien nature is never more apparent than in their inability to truly share their life with anyone else.

While the Doctor's emotions often seem to work in a strikingly different manner from those of their human companions, there have been times when the Time Lord has let their humanity show. On a handful of occasions, the Doctor's romantic side has shone through when someone special has captured both the Time Lord's hearts.

The Doctor's first companion advises Millie Gibson, the latest companion, to do lots of running exercises and be ready for anything in the upcoming Doctor Who season. Carole Ann Ford, who played Susan Foreman, offers her words of advice as the 60th anniversary celebrations approach. Ford suggests that Gibson should be prepared for the unpredictable nature of the role and the wide range of activities she may be asked to do in each script.

The first companion in Doctor Who history has some advice for Ncuti Gatwa's incoming companion. Since 1963, the Doctor has been taking humans, Time Lords, and various other aliens on voyages through time and space. The Doctor's granddaughter, Susan Foreman (Carole Ann Ford), was the first major partner to join him on his adventures. Since then, he has always had someone by his side.

Tardis Meaning: 20 Things You Didn't Know About The Doctor Who Time Machine
Image
The Tardis is an acronym for Time And Relative Dimension In Space, though its true origin remains unknown. The Tardis was involved in a patent war with the Metropolitan Police, but the BBC won the legal battle. The Tardis contains various rooms and features, including a swimming pool, art galleries, gardens, and bedrooms for the Doctor and companions.

The Tardis has a special meaning to fans of Doctor Who, and the loveable ship is one of the most recognizable images in sci-fi history. The Doctor is the nameless guardian of Earth, the savior of worlds, and a member of an alien race, the Time Lords of the planet Gallifrey. They have become the masters of time and space through the utilization of something truly spectacular: the Tardis, a ship that is The Doctor’s key to the universe. It has been the chariot of The Doctor for eons, weaving throughout...

Rose Tyler Is Still 'Doctor Who's Best Companion
Image
With almost six decades of traveling through space and time, Doctor Who has introduced the viewing public to different incarnations of the titular character and a variety of companions. Since the first companion in Susan Foreman (Carole Ann Ford), the companion has been a staple in the history of Doctor Who. Serving as the audience surrogate, the companion is there to ask questions about new worlds and characters they encounter with the Doctor. From Sarah Jane Smith (Elisabeth Sladen) to Ace (Sophie Aldred) to Donna Noble (Catherine Tate) to Clara Oswald (Jenna Coleman), the companion is one of the most vital components of Doctor Who’s success, and that's never more evident than in the case of Rose Tyler.

Doctor Who: Head of TV Archive Gives Promising Update on Missing Episodes
Image
All the Whovians, especially the classic Doctor Who fans, can rejoice -- there may still be hope for the missing episodes from the First and the Second Doctors' eras, at least according to the head of the TV archive Kaleidoscope Chris Perry.

BBC's most popular and longest-running sci-fi series, Doctor Who ,first debuted in 1963, with William Hartnell taking on the role of the Doctor and William Russell, Jacqueline Hill, and Carole Ann Ford joining him in the Tardis as Ian Chesterton, Barbara Wright, and Susan Foreman, respectively. Unfortunately, between 1967 and 1978, BBC had a policy of junking archive programming, which led to many of the First Doctor's adventures ironically getting lost in time. Hartnell's episodes were not the only ones affected -- Patrick Troughton and Jon Pertwee's time-and-space-traveling seasons were also the victims of erasure, although the Third Doctor's stories have since been restored.

Bonnie Langford's Doctor Who Return Hints at a Future With Unit
Image
Doctor Who is welcoming Melanie "Mel" Bush back to the Tardis in Season 14. As anticipation mounts for the sci-fi series' upcoming 60th anniversary specials and the subsequent debut of Season 14, the BBC has announced the classic companion will be joining Ncuti Gatwa's 15th Doctor in 2024. Portrayed by Bonnie Langford, Mel originally appeared opposite Colin Baker's Sixth Doctor and Sylvester McCoy's Seventh Doctor towards the end of the series' classic run. In 2022, she also made a brief return in the BBC centenary special, "The Power of the Doctor," where she was seen alongside a host of other classic companions.

Bonnie Langford is bringing her classic companion back to the screen in the midst of an exciting time for Doctor Who. With 2005 showrunner Russell T Davies returning and Disney+ backing the series, Doctor Who is gearing up to become bigger than ever. Davies has already teased that his new...

How Old Every Main Doctor Who Companion Is
Image
While most Doctor Who companions over the past 60 years have been young women, the ages of companions actually varies widely. The first several Doctor Who seasons almost always had a teenage girl as one of the main companions, as an audience surrogate when the series was more aimed at children. The actresses, however, were all over 18.

Modern Doctor Who companions trend a little older, but new Doctor Who companion Ruby Sunday will be the youngest yet. Millie Gibson was just 18 years old when she began filming Doctor Who season 14 last year. Though some companions have been younger in fiction, none of the actors have been younger than 19 until now.

Why A Classic Doctor Who Star Is Envious Of The Modern Companions
Image
Carole Ann Ford opens up about her time as part of the Doctor Who cast, explaining why she is envious of the modern companions compared to her own experience during the classic era. Ford portrayed Susan Foreman, granddaughter and the first companion of William Hartnell's First Doctor, and debuted in the sci-fi series' pilot, "An Unearthly Child." Alongside Hartnell, as well as William Russell and Jacqueline Hill, who portrayed teachers Ian Chesterton and Barbara Wright, Ford's character faced the Daleks, prehistoric cavemen, and French revolutionaries, and was shrunk to the size of an insect during their adventures in the Tardis.

With growing hopes to see Susan return to Doctor Who in the show's revived era, Ford opened up about her time as part of the classic cast in seasons 1 and 2 to RadioTimes. Admitting that she felt that Susan's writing left much to be desired, the star explained that she...

1 Detail Makes Power Of The Doctor An Even Better Doctor Who Celebration
Image
The third and final special episode of Doctor Who season 14, "The Power of the Doctor", is made an even better celebration of BBC’s 100th anniversary with one hidden detail. A time (and space) traveling alien from the destroyed planet of Gallifrey, the Doctor has the ability to regenerate into a new physical form when fatally injured. Thus, since the 1960s, various actors of different genders and ethnicities have taken on the role of the Doctor to extend their story on the screen.

"The Power of the Doctor" takes a look back at the show's history through its multiple Doctors and companions, both acknowledging its traditions and signaling a new, upcoming era. Since the series began in 1963, Doctor Who has featured many official renditions of the character of the Doctor, and many more companions as well. For BBC’s centenary celebration, the show called back actors from each decade that...

Doctor Who: 10 "Fan Favorite" Characters Redditors Find Annoying After Rewatching The Show
Image
With Jodie Whittaker's last episode as the Doctor on the way, fans are getting ready to say goodbye to the 13th Doctor. Though Doctor Who has made fans comfortable with changes in the cast, it is going to be the start of a new era entirely, and fans aren't sure what to expect.

With new companions, a new Doctor, and a new showrunner on the way, there are almost certainly going to be new fan-favorite characters to latch onto. Yet, while that's certainly something to look forward to, many past fan-favorite characters have actually turned out to be pretty annoying after a rewatch.

Jenny

The reveal that the Doctor actually had a cloned daughter was a major one, and many fans were incredibly excited to see that she survived her introduction by regenerating. Yet many fans find the Tenth Doctor's mini-me to be incredibly irritating after rewatching once or twice.

Doctor Who Just Broke A Guinness World Record
Image
Warning: This article contains spoilers for Doctor Who: The Power of the DoctorDoctor Who has broken a Guinness World Record in its centenary special “The Power of the Doctor.” The special episode was Jodie Whittaker’s final appearance as the Doctor and, as well as celebrating 100 years of the BBC, it revisited many old faces throughout Doctor Who’s 60-year history. Whittaker’s final episode saw the Master (Sacha Dhawan) force the Doctor to regenerate to erase her from existence for which she needs to use an AI program, taking the form of old actors who played the Doctor, to undo the regeneration.

The old versions of the Doctor were not the only familiar faces, as William Russell returned as Ian Chesterton which broke the Guinness World Record for “Longest gap between TV appearances as the same character”. The previous record was held by Phillip Lowrie as Dennis Tanner,...
