Just before the final battle, American Idol has narrowed down its roster to just five competitors, and it does not include the show’s youngest participant. Following the weekend’s Disney Night and Mother’s Day episodes, the ABC music reality show announced that it is moving forward to the next round without Mattie Pruitt and Gabby Samone.
Pruitt, an Eaglesville, Tennessee, resident, was the youngest contestant of American Idol Season 23. The rising star, who took the nation by storm through her musical genius, recently turned 16. Apart from Pruitt, America’s vote also sent back home Baltimore’s Gabby Samone, who was the last remaining Black woman left in the competition.
Toward the end of the episode, it was revealed that more than 20 million votes were received, which decided the future of the American Idol contestants.

Fan-fave singers John Foster and Jamal Roberts have both advanced to the Top 7 of American Idol, joining Slater Nalley, Thunderstorm Artis, Gabby Samone, Breanna Nix, and Mattie Pruitt. This is undoubtedly one of the strongest lineups in the show's 23-season history.

After all was said and done, host Ryan Seacrest announced that John, Jamal, Slater, Thunderstorm, Gabby, and Breanna had made it into America's Top 6, and that Josh King and Mattie were the Bottom 2.

American Idol season 23 Top 8 finalist Slater Nalley became a frontrunner in the competition because of his original songs, but he hasn't sung one since Hollywood Week, and he now reveals when he plans to debut another one. John Foster is rarely seen without his signature cowboy hat, but his girlfriend shared a rare photo that showed what he looks like underneath his favorite accessory. The aspiring country singer made the Top 8 on the Sunday’s (May 4) episode of American Idol, and Brooklyn Bourque celebrated by posting photos with him on Instagram afterward. Brooklyn was at the live show in Los Angeles and reunited with her beau later on. “My Guy so proud of you, I love you,” she captioned two photos of them. In the first shot, they smiled for the cameras, and in the second, John kissed Brooklyn on the cheek. While John usually goes for a western cowboy look on stage, his offstage style is much more simple. He took his cowboy hat off and wore a button-down shirt and jeans to hang with his lady. Kolbi Jordan and Canaan James Hill got an early boost on American Idol when they received platinum tickets from the judges after their auditions. But the magic wore off: both singers were eliminated during Sunday's live episode. This news comes one week after fellow platinum ticket holder Filo was booted, leaving no remaining recipients of the special honor in the Top 8.

Underwood told Kolbi, "This was a really great moment for you. The song choice was perfect. Throwing us curveballs like this? Well done!" And she said that Canaan "should never worry about messing up the words because you have that super power in your back pocket.

On Monday night's "Iconic Idol Moments" episode of American Idol, viewers were shocked and outraged when Filo was eliminated in the Top 12.
The 23-year-old singer from Dublin, Calif. was an early favorite to win the competition after claiming the platinum ticket on New Year's Eve. Alas, he failed to make the cut with the real-time voters after ironically singing "And I Am Telling You I'm Not Going" from Dreamgirls. Former American Idol contestant Jennifer Hudson popularized that song, and her fellow former Idol Fantasia Barrino, who won Season 3, was the mentor this week.
"I'll never forget the moment that Fantasia was in the Bottom 3 with Jennifer," Filo told the camera. "The way she rallied back and went all the way and won the show is so inspirational."
In their mentoring session, Fantasia instructed Filo to "pick and choose" his moments in the song, and to "let it breathe," instead of rushing the lyrics.

There was an absolute bloodbath on Monday's episode of American Idol, with the number of contestants dropping from 20 to 14. Among the unfortunate was Baylee Littrell, the son of Brian Littrell of the Backstreet Boys.
The 22-year old singer from Alpharetta, Ga., performed "All of Me" by John Legend as his "save me" song after failing to make it through via the viewers' overnight vote. America's top 10 vote-getters all advanced, and then the three judges — Luke Bryan, Carrie Underwood, and Lionel Richie — got to pick the other four. They had nothing but positive comments about Baylee's latest rendition, but alas, it wasn't enough to keep him in the competition.
The night before, Baylee had belted out "Gone Without Goodbye," a song written by his father following the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks. In an emotional moment, Baylee revealed to America that his mother was supposed to be on one of the airplanes that crashed that fateful day.

Carrie chimed in, "Slater, I mean, you've got the goods. I feel like you've very comfortable with that song. You were at ease behind that guitar. Just keep doing you, man. That's all I got. It's great.

The Sunday, April 20, episode of American Idol featured an emotional performance from contestant John Foster. After finding out that he made the top 20, John took the stage to sing an original song called “Tell That Angel I Love Her.” At the end of the song, John was noticeably emotional, and wiped away tears as the judges gave him their thoughts. Carrie Underwood asked what he was going through, and he explained that the song was a tribute to his late friend, high school cheerleader Maggie Dunn, who died suddenly in 2022 along with Caroline Gill. Underwood offered John some comforting words and told him, “There’s something so wonderfully throwback about your voice, about your style. I think it’s something that’s lacking in country music today, to be honest. We have a lot of outlaw country, we have a lot of new country, and I love that you keep it very traditional.

Tonight on American Idol — the top 62 contestants continued their Hollywood Week experience in the Showstoppers Round, where they took the stage once more to prove they've got the vocal prowess and charisma to become America's next superstar. Like last week's Idol Arena, each contestant performed in front of judges Carrie Underwood, Luke Bryan, and Lionel Richie, and then had to wait until the end of the night to find out who advanced in the competition. Unlike last week, they got zero feedback. The two-hour episode aired Sunday, April 6 (8 p.m. Et/Pt) with Ryan Seacrest hosting.
There were certainly plenty of showstoppers throughout the night, but the judges all agreed that the best was saved for last. Platinum Ticket winner Canaan James Hill was feeling the pressure as he waited to hit the stage, but the 17-year-old didn't show it when he belted out Marvin Sapp's "Never Would Have Made It.

Season 23 of American Idol continued the audition phase on Sunday night as judges Carrie Underwood, Lionel Richie, and Luke Bryan traveled to New York, Los Angeles, and Nashville to find music's next superstar. The two-hour episode aired Sunday, March 23 (8 p.m. Et/Pt) with Ryan Seacrest hosting.
The night's most memorable moment belonged to Freddie McClendon, the 19-year-old son of Davis McClendon, a 46-year-old father of three who was murdered in 2023. "One of my favorite memories — I was around 15 years old and my dad took me to Nashville for the first time," Freddie said prior to his audition. "Seeing Music City and Broadway — he said, 'You know Freddie, that's gonna be you one day.' It's happening today!"
"I've been writing music since I was a freshman in high school," he told the judges. "I really started doing it seriously about a year ago when my dad passed away. My...

Introduced as part of the second generation of the series Skins, James Cook was forever changed by what happened to him in season 4 and beyond. Known as one of the show's many troubled young characters, Cook was defined by his hard-partying lifestyle and general disregard for authority figures. Despite being somewhat of a troublemaker, Cook was usually gregarious and outgoing, but his temper was also volatile and unpredictable. Throughout seasons 3 and 4, Cook was seen to be quite impulsive with his decision-making, and that sometimes put him at odds with his closest friends.
Season 4 was a whirlwind for Cook and his best friend Freddie, and after their friendship was tested in season 3 through Cook's relationship with Effy, they reconciled in season 4. Every season of Skins had controversial moments, but the shocking murder of Freddie in season 4 continued that season's extremely dark turn. Freddie was murdered by John Foster in season 4, episode...
