Oscar-winning filmmaker Charlie Kaufman is making dreams come true with exciting news about his next feature. According to Deadline, Eddie Redmayne, Tessa Thompson, and Patsy Ferran will help lead Charlie Kaufman’s next film, Later the War, which he will write and direct, based on the short story Debby’s Dream House by Iddo Gefen.
Taken from Gefen’s literary collection Jerusalem Beach, the author’s short story follows a man who manufactures dreams for people but ultimately begins creating nightmares for them. Whether Kaufman’s version will adapt the story to its original form is unknown. Additionally, since it’s a short story, he’s bound to add new details. Ken Kao and Josh Rosenbaum will produce via Waypoint Entertainment, with Sarah Green of Brace Productions and Steven Demmler.

Chris O’Dowd and the residents of Deerfield will not be back for new adventures after Apple TV+ opted not to renew the series for a third season, Deadline has confirmed.
The series, which received an early Season 2 pick-up in April 2023, comes from David West Read. It tells the story of a small town that is forever changed when a mysterious machine appears in the general store, promising to reveal each resident’s true life potential.
Starring O’Dowd as Dusty Hubbard, a seemingly content, cheerful family man and high school teacher, who watches everyone around him reevaluate their life choices and ambitions — based on the machine’s printouts — and is forced to question whether he is truly as happy as he once thought.
While he remains skeptical of the machine, his wife, Cass (Gabrielle Dennis), indulges in the dream that there’s something bigger out there for her. Like many of Deerfield’s residents,...

Based on M.O. Walsh’s novel of the same name, Apple TV+'s newest series The Big Door Prize introduces the fictional town of Deerfield to the mystical Morpho machine. Suddenly appearing one night in the local convenience store, the mystery machine possesses the power to decipher one's true potential for only $2 and a social security number. With almost everyone in town lining up to have their fortunes told, lives are changing from one day to the next — but not always for the best.

If a machine existed that could tell passersby their ultimate potential, few would hesitate to give it a try — at least that's the theory that the new Apple TV Plus series The Big Door Prize posits. Showrunner David West Read (who may be best loved for Schitt's Creek) has taken the novel of the same name by M.O. Walsh and updated it to reflect the technology that permeates today's society. When the mysterious machine appears inside the local store and offers untapped potential readings for as little as a quarter and a social security number, everyone is town is ready to upgrade except for high school teacher Dusty.
The Big Door Prize boasts an impressive ensemble cast, led by Chris O'Dowd as the aforementioned teacher and whistler and A Black Lady Sketch Show's Gabrielle Dennis as his wife Cass. The series also stars Ally Maki as Hana, Josh Segarra as Giorgio,...

Apple TV+”s The Big Door Prize comes armed with a deceptively simple elevator pitch. Based on a book of the same name by M.O. Walsh, this 10 episode series ponders “if a nondescript machine in a corner store promised to tell you your ultimate destiny, would you want to know it?”
At first, you might be thinking “sure, why not?” That concept is not markedly different from what a psychic or boardwalk fortune teller might guarantee. And in the case of the butterfly-branded “Morpho machine,” receiving your reading would actually be far cheaper at only $2. It’s all just fun and games, now who has four quarters?
But what if seemingly everyone in your small American town who utilized the Morpho machine appeared to be fundamentally changed by the experience? What if dozens of your peers completely rearranged the details of their lives to better fit its ultimate vision for them?...

There’s an interpretation of the beloved comedy Schitt’s Creek wherein the town of Schitt’s Creek is actually Purgatory — a metaphysical proving ground in which the Rose family faces a series of banal and repetitive tasks meant to test their respective souls and determine whether or not they’re worthy of salvation.
It’s not a perfect interpretation: There’s maybe a little more coming and going from Schitt’s Creek than behooves the theory; plus when you open a theological door to ponder whether, in this scenario, Chris Elliott’s Roland is God or something, nobody is likely to be satisfied. But for approximately 90 percent of the show, you can absolutely accept Schitt’s Creek as limbo. If you choose to.
The truth, though, is that some shows are designed to be treated as allegory and other shows are designed to resist allegorical readings — to be ongoing, slice-of-life shows, treated literally if not seriously.

What would you do if you could find out your life's true potential? That's the question plaguing the residents of a small town when a mysterious machine appears in the local general store, with the ability to reveal each person's true destiny. Based on the M.O. Walsh novel of the same name, "The Big Door Prize" sees the small town shaken up by the life-changing predictions of the strange 'Morpho Machine,' which scans their fingerprints and DNA before spitting out a tiny card that encapsulates their life purpose.
I'm not gonna lie — this sounds like a unilaterally terrible idea. First off, the concept of true potential is frighteningly vague all on its own. Is it a goal that each person can achieve but won't necessarily? Don't we already put enough pressure on ourselves without the universe weighing in? Also, the idea of everyone in the town being able to...
