Five-time Emmy Award winner Neil Patrick Harris will be guiding contestants through Netflix’s new game show What’s In The Box as host. The six-episode first season is targeting a December 2025 premiere.
“Giant boxes conceal jaw-dropping prizes, wild surprises, and unexpected reveals in What’s in the Box, a high-stakes arching game show that tests smarts, strategy, and stamina,” reads Netflix’s synopsis. “Over several episodes, pairs of contestants face off in fast-paced, addictive trivia rounds, racing to correctly guess what’s inside each box. The BBC and Working Title are developing an adaptation of Em Forster’s epic period piece A Passage to India.
Working Title exec Surian Fletcher-Jones has just revealed the news about the new five-part series on an SXSW London panel. We understand Nisha Parti is also producing and her Parti Productions is a co-production partner.
Fletcher-Jones said the team are collaborating on the adaptation with Canadian film director and writer Richie Mehta.
The Forster novel just turned 100. Set against the backdrop of the British Raj and the Indian independence movement in the 1920s, it revolves around four characters: Dr. Aziz, his British friend Mr. Cyril Fielding, Mrs. Moore, and Miss Adela Quested.

Entering what he described as “the Vatican of film,” composer Hans Zimmer decided to take a more solemn approach to his selections in the Criterion Closet. Pouring over the options, the Christopher Nolan and Denis Villeneuve collaborator chose to recognize a fair amount of dark choices, starting with war film “The Battle of Algiers,” then moving on to Holocaust documentary “Night and Fog.”
“Oh, God, I went for all the heavy ones, didn’t I?” Zimmer said. “‘Night and Fog.’ The film that, to me, in its most unflinching way, describes the Third Reich, the Holocaust, and the concentration camps. So you have to have strong nerves to go and watch this one.”
Another bleak pick, Zimmer went on to grab Andrei Tarkovsky’s biographical drama “Andrei Rublev,” which uses the story of the 15th century artist to craft an intricate portrait of medieval Russia.

Michael Culver, the veteran British actor who portrayed the doomed Captain Needa in The Empire Strikes Back and a bigoted police inspector in David Lean’s A Passage to India, has died. He was 85.
Culver died Feb. 27, according to Alliance Agents, which represented him for the past decade. No other details were immediately available.

The announcement about the founder and Chairman of Great Point Media was made in a statement on the company’s website.

Reeve founded and was chair of U.K. media company Great Point. “It is with profound sadness that Great Point must confront the sudden and unexpected loss of our founder, mentor and friend, Jim Reeve, who passed away on Tuesday February 27, 2024,” the Great Point team said in a statement. “Jim had a storied career in the entertainment business spanning 40 years, and his passing will be mourned by a great many. Our thoughts are with Jim’s family most of all during this incredibly difficult time.”

On Monday, the High Court in the U.K. deemed that Fox had defamed Simon Blake, a former LGBT charity trustee, and Crystal, a drag artist and former RuPaul’s Drag Race contestant, on Twitter/X in October 2020, when he called them pedophiles over an escalating row over Black History Month.

A number of directors are pursuing litigation against the digital indie film distributor 1091 Pictures for failing to make promised revenue-sharing payments after selling their films to the platform, now owned by Chicken Soup for the Soul Entertainment. Helmers are scrambling to reclaim distribution rights to their work out of fear that 1091 Pictures’ parent company could declare bankruptcy.

The four day in-person event will feature twelve feature films and ninety-nine short films from around the world as well as the results of their annual screenplay competition.
Emanating from the Alamo Drafthouse Cinema in Winchester, Virginia, GenreBlast continues to champion truly independent genre cinema and this year features a dynamic array of cross-genre fare. With horror, science-fiction and fantasy, action, and even cult and midnight offerings, the fest prides itself on being an eclectic and diverse blast of genres and filmmakers.

Set to launch in December, the series will follow five apex predators as they fight to survive in some of the world’s most challenging environments: polar bears in Canada, wild dogs in Zimbabwe, puma in Chile, lions in Botswana, brown bears in Russia and cheetahs in Tanzania.
It also represents Sky’s first co-production with Netflix. The series was produced by True to Nature and Sky Studios in association with Netflix. It will launch on Sky Nature and Sky’s streaming platform Now in December. A Netflix release date hasn’t been confirmed.
Zai Bennett, Sky’s managing director of content, and Poppy Dixon, director of documentaries and factual, commissioned the series. Wendy Dark exec produces while Vanessa Coates is show runner and Dan Smith series director. NBCUniversal Global Distribution are distributing on behalf of Sky Studios.

"We have nothing to hide." 1091 Pictures has unveiled an official trailer for another mysterious, thrilling, scary new UFO doc called Moment of Contact, about the "Roswell of Brazil." It's made by director James Fox, a self-described "ufologist" who last directed the 2020 doc The Phenomenon all about UFO cover-ups. Ever since the military released all that unexplainable UFO footage for the public to freak out over, ufologists have been going extra crazy with even stronger and more convincing theories. Moment of Contact is an exploration of extraterrestrial encounters centered on a series of events in 1996 when citizens of the town of Varginha, Brazil reported seeing a UFO crash and one or more strange creatures. Freaky shit. It has interviews with key eyewitnesses, experts and officials, including physicist & ufologist Stanton Friedman, Brazilian Air Force General Jose Carlos Pereira, and Brazilian ufologist Ademar Jose Gevaerd. This seems so convincing and sure of the evidence.

ITV Studios has backed entertainment producer Rollercoaster Television, which has been established by two producers from Banijay-owned Remarkable.
Remarkable managing director James Fox and director of content Dom Waugh have worked on shows including BBC One’s The Wall, Pointless, and All Together Now. They are currently making Stars In Their Eyes-style format Starstuck for ITV.
Rollercoaster Television will produce entertainment shows for the UK and global markets. ITV Studios will handle the outfit’s international sales.
“We’ve had an amazing 10 years and more with the brilliant team at Remarkable,” Fox and Waugh said. “But now feels like the time for the next adventure and the chance to build a new slate of shows for the UK and beyond. 1091 Pictures has acquired worldwide rights to “Varginha: The Roswell of Brazil,” James Fox’s follow-up to “The Phenomenon.”
The film is another exploration of potential extraterrestrial encounters, this one centered on a series of events in 1996 when citizens of Varginha, Brazil, reported seeing one or more strange creatures and a UFO crash. According to the description from the studio, a number of locals, including a group of girls ranging in age from 14-21, had a close encounter with a being described as about 4 feet tall, with brown oily skin, a large head and huge red eyes. The town of Varginha was cordoned off by military and emergency response teams and two creatures were captured. Local military policeman Marco Cherese died under mysterious circumstances after allegedly handling one of the creatures.

Those who have a weakness for British spy movies will find plenty to like in "The Whistle Blower", a largely unheralded 1986 production that boasts a fine performance by Michael Caine. He plays Frank Jones, a nondescript middle-aged Brit with a somewhat convoluted background. He was a fighter pilot in the military but his career came to an end when he struck a superior officer. It's then implied that he went on to work for British Intelligence in some capacity, though in reality his act of military insubordination would probably have excluded him from that position. When we are introduced to Frank he is a widower and owner of a small office supply business who is paying a visit to his 28 year-old son Bob for a low key celebration of his offspring's birthday. It turns out that Bob is employed by Government Communications Headquarters (Gchq), which is a branch of the intelligence community.

Don’t get me wrong, it’s still important to pay attention even at the beginning, as what you see is not just some dry documentary, but a case being built for what’s to come.
