Disney's 'Jungle Cruise' Movie Finds Director
Jaume Collet-Serra
It appears that Disney's Jungle Cruise movie has finally found its captain.

The Shallows helmer Jaume Collet-Serra will direct Dwayne Johnson in the action-adventure based on the classic Disneyland ride.

While park-goers are taken on a journey through the rivers of the world, from Africa’s Nile and Congo rivers to South America’s Amazon, exact plot details for the feature are being kept under wraps.

Johnson will also produce the adventure project with Dany Garcia, the co-ceo of the duo’s Seven Bucks Productions banner, which will next release Jumanji. John Fox and Beau Flynn will also produce. The studio is shooting for a...

Dwayne Johnson
The Rock Will Shoot Disney's Jungle Cruise in 2018
Dwayne Johnson
Roughly a year and a half after Dwayne Johnson signed on to star in Disney's Jungle Cruise, the studio has finally given the green light to the project. Production is now slated to begin in the spring of 2018, with the studio beginning its search for a director to take over the project. Dwayne Johnson will also produce through his Seven Bucks Productions company, alongside Dany Garcia. The actor-producer took to his Instagram page earlier today to confirm the news, with the following statement.

"This is a big one we've been working on. Very excited to roll up the sleeves and work on building out this huge property with our Disney partners. This #JungleCruise script was hand delivered to me personally (on the set of Ballers) by my good bud and Walt Disney's President of Production, Sean Bailey. Read the script twice that weekend and Loved It! Thank God, the script...

Timeless Review – TV – NBC May Have Stumbled Into A Sci-Fi Winner
Shows that involve time travel have a lot of hurdles that need to be factored in, and Timeless confronts the challenge by attempting to simply avoid the problems altogether. It’s actually a good way to go, and the way the show builds its premise works better than anyone probably dared to hope.

The best element the show puts in play is that no one who actually does the time travelling wanted to go. Well, that’s only true of our heroes, but that’s all that matters. Time travel is forced upon them, and that puts us in the position of unique, and easier to develop, motivations for our characters.

Lucy Preston (Abigail Spencer – Suits, Rectify) is a mild-mannered, but respected, history professor who is pressed into service for the government when a time machine (secretly constructed by a private sector company) is stolen. Known criminal/terrorist Garcia Flynn...

Zach Braff Inks Deal With ABC For New Comedy Series Start Up
Though it’s likely to undergo a name change closer to the time – so as to avoid a clash with Crackle’s new drama – Start Up is Zach Braff’s new comedy series that has now found a home at ABC.

Deadline has the scoop, confirming that the Garden State and Wish I Was Here will direct and star in Start Up, a project that will herald a reunion between Braff and Scrubs co-executive producer Matt Tarses. Indeed, it was Tarses who hatched the script, one based on Alex Blumberg and Lisa Chow’s titular podcast about the “human side of business.”

Braff, meanwhile, is due to make his long overdue return to serialized content, headlining Start Up as an Average Joe in “his mid-30s with a wife and two kids makes the crazy decision to quit his good job and dive into the brave new world of starting a business.

[SXSW Review] Tower
Utilizing an engaging mix of newly filmed footage rotoscoped à la Waking Life, archival materials, and interviews, Tower employs a verbatim style to capture the harrowing events of August 1, 1966, in which a sniper opened fire at the University of Texas, killing 16 and wounding 32 others. Almost never referring to the shooter by name, director Keith Maitland captures the terror of the day told through newsreel footage and animated sections, following several key figures of the drama, including a young pregnant undergrad Claire Wilson, her unborn baby, and her boyfriend, Tom Eckman, who were the first to lose their lives that day.

By exploring the sheer panic, we can follow the heroes of this tragedy: Allen Crum, the manager of the local campus Co-Op who headed towards the tower while others took cover; Austin police officers Ray Martinez and Houston McCoy, who did exactly what they had to without the kind of...

"Behind Enemy Lines" To Become A TV Series
Fox has handed out a put pilot commitment for "Behind Enemy Lines," a TV drama series adaptation of the mostly forgotten 2001 action film of the same name.

John Moore helmed the original military thriller about an American pilot (Owen Wilson) shot down over Bosnia while on a secret mission, at the same time his commanding officer (Gene Hackman) fights to launch a search and rescue mission. It did well enough to spawn several direct-to-video sequels.

Jeffrey Nachmanoff ("Hostages," "Homeland") is set to write and direct the the potential pilot which will shift the action to the jungles of Latin America and involve an entire flight crew who have been shot down.

Like the film there will be their commanding officer on an aircraft carrier trying to get them home, there will also be a female CIA officer in Washington who stumbles into a conspiracy that involves narco traffickers and terrorism,...

Nvff Announces Films in Competition & Claudia Puig as New Program Director
The 5th Annual Napa Valley Film Festival (Nvff), scheduled to take place November 11-15, has announced its Narrative and Documentary feature film line-ups for juried competition. The complete program of approximately 125 films, including special presentations, sneak previews of award season contenders, narrative and documentary shorts, and short features, as well as jury members, will be announced soon.

Directors of the Narrative and Documentary feature films in competition will participate in Nvff’s unique Artists-in-Residence Program presented in partnership with the incomparable Meadowood Napa Valley. Directors will stay at the luxury resort for six nights during the festival and are treated to special events and workshops with their competition group and industry mentors. Meadowood Napa Valley will also award $10,000 to the winning filmmakers in both the Narrative and Documentary competition categories at the Closing Night Awards Ceremony on Sunday, November 15.

“We experienced nearly a 50% jump in submissions this year, making it just that much more difficult to whittle down to our 10 narrative and 10 documentary feature films for our core competition,” said Nvff Executive & Artistic Director Marc Lhormer. “We look forward to sharing these compelling real and imagined stories with our audiences in November, and to supporting these innovative filmmakers and getting to know them during their tenure with us as Artists-in-Residence at Meadowood."

Nvff has also announced that former USA Today Chief Film Critic Claudia Puig will be joining the festival team. She will serve as a consulting programming director and industry liaison for the balance of 2015, and then take on full responsibilities of program director at the beginning of the 2016 festival planning cycle.

“After 15 years as a film critic, I became increasingly intrigued by the film festival world and what makes compelling film programming,” said Puig. “Some of the best and most original movies I’ve seen have made their debut at film festivals. Joining the Napa staff is especially exciting - only in its fifth year, the Napa Valley Film Festival is growing by leaps and bounds with its ambitious, forward-thinking and innovative programming, panels and events. The combination of film, wine and a gorgeous location made this an easy choice for my new career path, and I look forward to working with Marc, Brenda and the entire Nvff team.”

Narrative Competition Section

"Lola’s Last Letter" – While completing her community service, a young woman continues to deal with the emotional trauma left over by the mistake that sent her to prison. Directed by Daniel Glick.

"Bounce: How the Ball Taught the World to Play" – Based on the book by anthropologist John Fox, “The Ball: Discovering the Object of the Game,” Bounce takes us to the far reaches of the globe and the deep recesses of our ancient past to answer the question: why do we play ball? Directed by Miriam Abu Sharkh.

"Right Footed" – Despite being born without arms, Jessica Cox overcame both physical and emotional challenges to become fully independent. She learned to type with her toes, drive a car with her feet, and amazingly, fly an airplane. "Romeo is Bleeding" – Donte Clark’s poetic voice was honed on the violent street corners of his struggling city of Richmond, California. Rather than succumb to the everyday pressures to just survive, Clark uses his artistic perspective – and a good dose of inspiration from the Bard – to create a personalized production of Romeo & Juliet as one man’s attempt to save his city from itself. Directed by Jason Zeldes.

"Since: The Bombing of Pan Am Flight 103" – When a terrorist-planted bomb destroyed Pan Am Flight 103 over Lockerbie, Scotland in December 1988, 270 lives were ended and a heartbreaking new reality for thousands of relatives begun. "The Family Next Door" – He was the star Yale football player who went on to become an attorney. She was the beautiful cheerleader who became a loving, caring teacher. Directed by Michael Messner and Barry Reese.

"The Uncondemned" – In 1997, a mismatched group of underdog lawyers embarked on a quixotic quest to have rape classified as an international war crime for the first time. "The Uncondemned" is the story of their fight for the first conviction and the story of the heroic Rwandan women who risked a wave of witness assassinations to testify.

The Player Boss Addresses NBC Drama's 'Ridiculous' Premise
Wesley Snipes, Philip Winchester, and Charity Wakefield in The Player (2015)
The producers of The Player are well aware that the upcoming NBC drama is, well, not exactly realistic. But don’t say that like it’s a negative, thank you very much.

“Ridiculous is a valid artistic choice!” creator John Rogers (The Librarians, Leverage) happily replied after a critic threw out the adjective to describe the outré premise — a former military operative-turned-security expert (played by Strike Back‘s Philip Winchester) is drawn into a shady organization that gambles on crime.

David O. Russell's 'Joy' Starring Jennifer Lawrence Gets Christmas 2015 Release
Jennifer Lawrence at an event for Passengers (2016)
20th Century Fox has set a December 25, 2015 release date for Joy, the latest collaboration between Jennifer Lawrence and director David O. Russell. The movie will go up against Paramount's Mission: Impossible 5 next Christmas, with DreamWorks Animation's Kung Fu Panda 3 opening just two days earlier on December 23, 2015.

The plot is based on the true story of Joy Mangano, a single mother from Long Island who made millions of dollars after selling her Miracle Mop invention. The release date indicates the director is clearly taking another shot at an Oscar, since his last movie, American Hustle, which also starred Jennifer Lawrence, was given a similar release date.

The director is coming off of three straight Oscar nominations for Best Director, for his work in The Fighter, Silver Linings Playbook and American Hustle, although he has yet to take home a statuette.

David O. Russell Wants Jennifer Lawrence for Biopic About Miracle Mop Inventor Joy Mangano
David O. Russell is in early talks to rewrite a Fox 2000 project about Miracle Mop inventor Joy Mangano with the intent to direct.  The director wants his Silver Linings Playbook and American Hustle muse Jennifer Lawrence to play Long Island native Mangano.  Mangano was a single mother of three when she developed the prototype for her Miracle Mop in 1990.  The Miracle Mop became a big seller on QVC when Mangano went on air to pitch the product, selling out 18,000 mops in 20 minutes.  Over 5 million mops later, Mangano now has 100+ patents (including Huggable Hangers) and has become one of Hsn's best-selling presenters.  More after the jump. According to Deadline, Annie Mumolo (Bridesmaids) wrote the original script for Fox 2000.  John Davis (Chronicle), John Fox (The Blacklist), and Ken Mok (Invincible) are producing. The report does not mention where Lawrence stands on the matter, but if she wants the part, I imagine there...

Rawson Marshall Thurber
Rawson Marshall Thurber has closed a deal to direct 20th Century Fox's Choose Your Own Adventure adaptation, with writers Thomas Lennon and Robert Ben Garant finalizing a deal to write the screenplay adaptation. However, it isn't known which of the stories they plan on adapting from the 180-book catalog.

We first reported on the project back in June, when 20th Century Fox and producers John Davis and John Fox acquired the massive library of titles, which spans all genres from mysteries (Who Killed Harlowe Thrombey?) to Westerns (Deadwood City) to espionage (Your Code Name Is Jonah) to outer space (Space and Beyond).

The concept for the novels was created in 1975 by Edward Packard and R.A. Montgomery, which allowed the reader to select which path they wanted the story to take, with most decisions leading to the success or ultimate demise of the protagonist. The series took off in popularity when...

Peyton Manning Sets New Record For Touchdown Passes In Single Season
Peyton Manning knows a thing or two about setting and breaking records, and on Dec. 22 he broke another one. He threw his 51st touchdown of the year — breaking Tom Brady’s record for touchdowns thrown in a single season.

Peyton Manning and the Denver Broncos not only clinched the first-round bye with their win at Reliant Stadium in Texas, but the 37-year-old quarterback also took back the record that was once his.

Peyton Manning Breaks Touchdown Record

With 4:28 left in Sunday’s game, Peyton threw a 25-yard pass to tight-end Julius Thomas, who scored, giving Manning his 51st Td of the season.

Peyton Manning sets record for most Touchdowns

While he was honored, it wasn’t the first time he’s set this record. In 2004, he threw 49 TDs when playing for the Colts, setting the record. However, three years later Tom Brady and the Patriots broke that record, with...

New 2013 TV Series Breakdown: NBC
The Fall TV Season presentations for all the new network shows take place this week with the first announced today. Here's a full breakdown of which concepts have made the final list over on NBC.

The Peacock did not have a good year. Only one of its new shows, "Revolution," was a true hit. Another, "Chicago Fire," got renewed by the skin of its teeth whilst the fate of a third, "Hannibal," remains uncertain.

None of last year's new comedies survived, neither did two mid-season dramas, which leaves the network with some big holes to fill. Three dramas and three comedies will debut in the Fall ahead of three more dramas and two comedies mid-season. Two further dramas and a comedy are presently unscheduled.

Several other pilots didn't make the final cut and won't become series including the high-profile Charlize Theron-produced drama about the Hatfields and McCoys, the Bruckheimer-produced...

NBC Reveals 2013-2014 Lineup – Catch Full Preview With Trailers And Clips
The new fall season is closer than you think, and NBC has released their full schedule. Apart from reality favorites The Biggest Loser and The Voice, they are mixing things up quite a bit.

TV News: NBC Announces Fall Schedule with Six New Shows, Changes to Every Night
Chicago – When you’re in as much of a ratings struggle as NBC, it makes sense to shake things up and that’s exactly what they’re doing in the Fall with a new show or an old show in a new time every single night of the week. “Chicago Fire,” “Revolution,” “The Biggest Loser,” “Parks and Recreation,” and “Parenthood” are moving. “Community” is being held until a midseason, 13-episode run. No decision yet made on “Celebrity Apprentice” or “Hannibal,” which isn’t that surprising as they are mid-season shows anyway although it shouldn’t give fans of either program confidence as NBC announced a midseason schedule as well and they’re not on it. Anything could still happen with either program however and they could be held as replacements for shows that fail. That may be the best shot for “Hannibal” fans now. The best new show on the...

Broncos Report To Camp, Hope To Lift Spirits In Wake Of Shooting
Wednesday (1992)
Englewood, Colo. -- The Denver Broncos reported to camp Wednesday hoping to lift the spirits of a community in mourning over the movie theater massacre in neighboring Aurora.

Several players visited hospitalized survivors and medical personnel in the days after a gunman in full body armor opened fire during the midnight premiere of the new Batman movie, leaving 12 dead and 58 injured.

Coach John Fox said the Broncos will do what they can to provide a measure of comfort to a heavy-hearted community, a role he's familiar with from his time with the New York Giants during the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.

"Well, we're going to do our absolute best and we understand the responsibility that comes with being in the Broncos organization," Fox said. "This region, city, state has great passion for the team, there's no doubt. I think our players will feel that responsibility and it's something that we'll talk...
