Starz’s Power franchise finally revealed the identity of Branford ‘Breeze’ Frady. The character’s been talked about since the franchise first launched back in 2014, but it wasn’t until Power Book III: Raising Kanan season four’s finale that Breeze appeared on screen, played by Shameik Moore (Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse).

Shameik Moore will continue playing Breeze as a new series regular in the upcoming fifth and final season. Per Starz: “Known as a drug kingpin from Jamaica, Queens, Breeze employed a young Kanan Stark, as well as James St. Patrick and Tommy Egan, with James and Tommy as his corner boys.”

The finale, which aired on May 15, 2025, showed Snaps (Wendell Pierce) and Pop (Erika Woods) introducing Kanan (MeKai Curtis) to Breeze. The introduction is a “lasting tie” between the original series and the prequel.

“It was...

Power Book III: Raising Kanan Season 5 to Wrap Up the Series
Image
Starz has added Shameik Moore to the cast of Power Book III: Raising Kanan, introducing him in tonight’s season four finale as the highly anticipated “Branford ‘Breeze’ Frady.” Moore will join the cast as a series regular in the prequel series’ upcoming fifth season, which has also been confirmed as the final season.

“It was always my intention that ‘Raising Kanan’ would run for five seasons, and thanks to my friends and partners at Starz and Lionsgate, as well as the incredible cast, crew and writing staff, I’ve been able to tell the entirety of the story I set out to tell way back in 2019,” said said Power Book III: Raising Kanan executive producer, writer and showrunner Sascha Penn.

Penn added: “Having said that, with the table we’ve set in this season finale and the inevitable introduction of Breeze, there is still an exceptionally intense and action-packed...

Image
“Power Book III: Raising Kanan” will end with its upcoming fifth season, Variety has learned.

The show just aired its fourth season finale on Starz. The fifth season was announced back in March 2024, though it was not known that it would be the final season until now.

Spoilers Ahead For The “Raising Kanan” Season 4 Finale

Shameik Moore has joined the show for its fifth and final season. He made his first appearance in the Season 4 finale as the often mentioned but never before seen character Branford “Breeze” Frady.

“The ‘Power’ Universe fans have been patiently anticipating this moment and I’m honored to step into the iconic role of Breeze,” said Moore. “I jumped into a story that is already alive with such strong characters, but it was a fun challenge to find Breeze’s unique identity, and I can’t wait for fans to see how Breeze will shift dynamics in the story.

Image
[This story contains spoilers for the season four finale of Power Book III: Raising Kanan.]

Power Book III: Raising Kanan season four just came to a close, but the previously announced season five is around the corner. To that end, we’ve got some good news and some bad news.

The good: Shameik Moore has been cast as Branford “Breeze” Frady. The fans have been waiting on that one.

Ok maybe it’s not so bad; showrunner Sascha Penn says this was “always” his “intention.”

‘Raising Kanan’ Cast, Showrunner Sascha Penn Tease Exclusive Season 4 Details
Image
In this day and age of peak(ish) TV, it’s not unusual for a series to cap a season with a jaw-dropping cliffhanger. But the third season of the Starz hit Power Book III: Raising Kanan dropped one and then some.

“I don’t think anyone was ready for how it ended,” star Patina Miller told The Hollywood Reporter during a special event in partnership with Starz in Park City, Utah, during the Sundance Film Festival in January. “It literally ended on two bangs.”

Two bangs followed by two bodies hitting the floor to close out a wild and action-packed third season. The fourth is locked and loaded and ready to roll out on March 7, and ahead of its debut Miller joined showrunner, executive producer and Power guru Sascha Penn, title star Mekai Curtis and the one and only Tony Danza for a compliment-filled panel discussion at Pendry Park City.

Why We Never Got These Predator Movies
Image
One of the most iconic science fiction action franchises is "Predator," which began with the eponymous movie starring Arnold Schwarzenegger in 1987. While "Predator" is regarded as an action classic, attempts to follow-up on its success have since had considerably more mixed results. The series has seen a number of sequels, revivals, and crossovers with the "Alien" franchise, with varying levels of critical and commercial reception. However, for every "Predator" movie that has seen the light of day, there are plenty of projects that were canceled or altered significantly.

From failed attempts to bring Schwarzenegger back in the fold to star in additional installments or sequel plans shelved by disappointing box office, there are lots of discarded "Predator" movies. This includes the studio shuffling pitches and filmmakers in their hopes to keep the franchise relevant and recapture the 1987 movie's magic. Here's a roster of "Predator" movies that were once in development but ultimately never made,...

Law & Order: Svu’s Season 14 Has One of the Series' Best Episodes
Image
Content Warning: This piece contains significant discussion of rape, sexual assault, pregnancy after rape, and harassment.

Law & Order: Svu's Season 14, Episode 18, "Legitimate Rape," originally aired in March 2013 but remains one of Svu's best episodes. Written by Kevin Fox and Peter Blauner, "Legitimate Rape" takes a ripped-from-the-headlines moment -- former Senator Todd Akin's comments about "legitimate rape" and pregnancy -- and pairs it with a complicated and traumatizing experience that has an impact on nearly every member of the squad. "Legitimate Rape" also stands out because over 50% of the episode is spent in the courtroom, which is typical for some of the shows in the Law & Order franchise but is unusual for Svu.

"Legitimate Rape" begins six weeks after sports reporter Avery Jordan (Lauren Cohan) is raped by her cameraman, Rick Purcell, when she is disclosing to Detective Olivia Benson (Mariska Hargitay) and Detective Nick Amaro (Danny Pino...

Women’s Weekend Film Challenge Launches Pilot Accelerator for Emerging Writers Looking to Pitch Female-Centric Content
Image
Women’s Weekend Film Challenge (Wwfc) is launching a pilot accelerator program for writers to pitch female-centric content.

The program, which will see emerging TV writers pitching beginning in October of this year, was designed to help such writers advance their careers, as well as to increase the representation of women non-binary people working in television.

“So many members of our community have pilot scripts ready to go but no one to pitch to,” Wwfc co-founder Tracy Sayre said in a statement. “This gap became especially apparent over the last year as we’ve hosted weekly virtual workshops; far and away, the most popular events have centered around how to pitch and how to break into the writers room. This accelerator is a natural response to the career goals of our community.”

Wwfc is accepting applications for the accelerator on FilmFreeway from June 17 to July 21, 2021. The program will take place virtually.

NBC Buys ‘Freakonomics’-Inspired Drama Procedural Produced By Kelsey Grammer
NBC has bought Pariah, a drama project from Lionsgate Television and Kelsey Grammer’s Grammnet Prods. Written by Kevin Fox (The Negotiator, Law & Order: Svu), the police procedural features characters inspired by the economic theory ‘Freakonomics’ made popular by authors/economists Steven Levitt & Stephen Dubner. In Pariah, the Mayor of San Diego appoints a rogue academic with no law enforcement background to run a task force using Freakonomics-inspired alternative methods of policing. This causes an uproar within the police department as the morally conflicted, conspiracy-minded academic solves crimes by conducting his controversial experiments on citizens of the city. Grammer and Grammnet’s Stella Stolper and Brian Sher will executive produce, with Levitt and Dubner attached as producers. The project extends Grammnet’s relationship with Lionsgate — the two companies also co-produce the Grammer-starring Starz drama Boss. Grammnet, whose head of development Brian Taylor has spearheaded Pariah, and Levitt & Dubner are repped by Wme.
