What Does Nickelodeon Mean? The Name Of The TV Channel, Explained
Image

Many of the famous children's television shows of the past few decades, from the silly "Spongebob Squarepants" to the more serious and ambitious "Avatar: The Last Airbender," share a home: Nickelodeon, often called simply "Nick."

Nickelodeon is distinguished by its orange splatter logo (designed by Tom Corey & Scott Nash) and its variety of programming. Kids are not a monolith, so Nickelodeon has sister channels and programming blocks to appeal to different niches. You'd be unlikely to see anything as edgy as Adult Swim's programming on Nick at Nite, but it still targets viewers who've long aged out of shows aimed at extremely young kids, like "Blue's Clues."

But what is a "Nickelodeon"? You may have seen viral social media posts claiming that the word is Latin for "I don't care about God," but those claims are nonsense.

Disney Pulling Up Stakes On Fox Lot By End Of 2025; Multiple New Potential Tenants In Talks
Image
In a notable change at Fox’s storied West Los Angeles lot, Disney will pull up stakes there when its lease is up next March, ending a multiyear stay borne of one of the biggest mergers in media history.

Disney has occupied a significant amount of space on the lot since closing its $71.3 billion deal to acquire most of 21st Century Fox in 2019. It will vacate by the end of the year, ahead of the March 2026 expiration of its lease, multiple sources confirmed to Deadline. Disney intends to consolidate its operations in a “creative hub” in its corporate home of Burbank.

In the wake of the Disney-Fox deal, the FX and 20th Television teams, led by John Landgraf and Karey Burke, had remained based on the Pico Boulevard lot. They will now join the relocation to Burbank by the end of the year.

In a brief statement provided to Deadline,...

The Head Of Fox Once Taught Legendary Director Howard Hawks A Lesson He Never Forgot
Image
A case could be made that Howard Hawks is one of the greatest American directors of all time. His career spanned from the silent era in the mid-1920s all the way to 1970, and along the way, he made some of the most memorable classics the film industry has ever seen. Hawks directed one of the first gangster movies, made two of the best screwball comedies of all time with "Bringing Up Baby" and "His Girl Friday," created two of the best Humphrey Bogart/Lauren Bacall films ever (and an influential noir classic) with "To Have and Have Not" and "The Big Sleep," and directed at least three classic John Wayne Westerns in the form of "Red River," "Rio Bravo," and "El Dorado." Not too shabby.

But everyone has to start somewhere, and Hawks got a job working as a propman during the summers in the earliest days of Hollywood.

LeBron James, SpringHill Set Opening for First Theater Production ‘Fetch Clay, Make Man’
Image
Will Power’s Fetch Clay, Make Man is coming to Culver City thanks to LeBron James and Maverick Carter’s SpringHill Company and Center Theatre Group.

The play, focused on the unlikely friendship of legendary boxer Muhammad Ali and Hollywood icon Stepin Fetchit, will hit the stage at the Kirk Douglas Theatre from June 25-July 16 with Debbie Allen at the helm in her Ctg directorial debut. Opening night is set for June 25.

The story explores the bond that formed when the two met in the days leading up to one of Ali’s most anticipated fights, with one described as “a vibrant and audacious youth, the other a resentful and widely resented relic — each fighting to form their public personas and shape their legacies amidst the struggle of the Civil Rights Movement of the mid-1960s.”

Fetch Clay, Make Man has been produced in regional companies including the McCarter Theater,...
