Note to Psych acolytes: Don’t take the messaging on next week’s Blu-ray release literally.

Despite Universal touting its upcoming Psych boxed set — which includes all eight seasons of the James Roday Rodriguez-Dule Hill farce as well as the three revival pics — as the franchise’s “complete” library, a Peacock source tells TVLine that discussions are continuing to bring Shawn and Gus back for a fourth movie adventure.

James Roday Rodriguez gives an update on Psych 4's progress and explains why the film hasn't happened yet. Rodriguez starred alongside Dulé Hill in the detective comedy Psych, which aired from 2006 to 2014. However, despite the conclusion of the series, the franchise has continued through a series of TV films. The first film, Psych: The Movie, premiered on USA Network before Peacock took over and released two more movies. Plans for a Psych 4 have been circulating since 2022, but updates have been hard to come by.

In an interview with TVLine, Rodriguez has a hopeful update on the status of Psych 4. He reaffirms some facts that were already known - namely that a script has already been written - while revealing the movie was close to getting underway just last year. However, Rodriguez then explains what prevented Psych 4 from getting off the ground. Check out his statement below:

Though having departed in season 4, Rachael Leigh Cook is ready to rejoin the fold for a new Psych movie. Cook first made her debut in the beloved USA detective comedy series in season 3 as Abigail Lytar, the high school ex-girlfriend of James Roday Rodriguez's Shawn Spencer whom he rekindles with at their reunion. After two seasons of dating, Abigail would break up with Shawn in the Psych season 4 finale after nearly becoming a victim to Mr. Yin and finding herself unable to deal with the stresses of his job.

While speaking exclusively with Screen Rant for the Netflix rom-com A Tourist's Guide to Love, Rachael Leigh Cook was asked about her potential appearance in a new Psych movie. After humorously reciting one of the show's iconic catchphrases of "No, you suck it!", the former series star eagerly expressed her hopes to one day come back and embraced the franchise's unique fanbase name.

Exclusive: Molly Hurwitz has joined Thruline Entertainment as a literary manager.

Hurwitz moves to Thruline from Zero Gravity, where she had been a manager for the past six years, focusing on comedy writers. Prior to her career in management, she trained at ICM. Hurwitz, a graduate of New York University, will serve as a mentor for the 2023 Writers Discovery Fellowship.

With three successful films to date, Kurt Fuller says a Psych 4 movie may just be right around the corner. Created by Steve Franks, the franchise began with the eponymous TV show centered on Shawn Spencer, the son of a former police detective who uses the skills his dad raised him with to solve crimes as a fake psychic with his childhood friend Burton Guster. Initially ending after eight seasons in 2014, Psych would come back with 2017's Psych: The Movie, the first of five planned sequels.

Screen Rant recently caught up with Fuller for an exclusive chat on his role in the Night Court revival, during which he was asked about a potential Psych 4. The series star seemed largely confident in the chances for another sequel, even reflecting on a recent conversation he had with James Roday Rodriguez in which his co-star and executive producer is "playing things close to the vest.

There was a time when USA Network steadily churned out solid, comfort food-style original programming that was generally referred to as its "Blue Sky Era." The shows were light, breezy, and fun. Back before Psych’s popularity, the series had less freedom; however, Season 7 saw an influx of episodes that fully embraced the weirdness that Psych does best. Ever since the show’s second season, series creator Steve Franks had an idea for his dream episode. Five seasons later, he was finally able to make it.

Early on in Psych 3: This Is Gus, Juliet worries that Shawn’s investigation into mom-to-be Selene’s past will jeopardize her last chance at being a godparent. The heart-to-heart that followed at least hinted at “Shules” revisiting the idea of starting a family of their own.

There is a plan for Psych 4. It is, however — as it has been the last two times — up to Peacock to officially greenlight another movie sequel.

Psych: The Movie premiered in December 2017 on the series’ original cable home, USA Network. Psych 2: Lassie Come Home followed in July 2020, as a Peacock Original. Similarly, Psych 3: This Is Gus, which arrived just this week, debuted on the Peacock streaming service.

A running joke in the threequel involves Gus (played by Dule Hill) trying to get Tears for Fears co-founder Curt Smith to play at his and Selene’s imminent wedding.

The 19-month-old Peacock streaming service doesn’t mind being the butt of a joke, at least when the guys of Psych are telling it.

About a third of the way into the movie threequel Psych 3: This Is Gus (which hit the streamer today), Shawn and Gus (played by James Roday Rodriguez and Dulé Hill) question a Poi who, they come to realize, is an actress by trade and for some time has been passing herself off as Selene’s sister.

The Psych universe has been around since 2006.

While the series is over, the franchise remains alive thanks to movie spinoffs, and, of course, the fans.

Psych 3: This Is Gus premieres on Peacock Thursday, November 18, and TV Fanatic got the chance to speak to the cast and crew ahead of broadcast.

"The Psych-os are the best," said Dulé Hill of the devoted fanbase.

"They've been on this journey with us since 2006. We're now in 2021. And the love just keeps building and growing," the actor added before saying he enjoyed working with everyone associated with the project.

He said they always look forward to coming back.

"It's a wacky bunch, and the story always seems to keep unraveling in ways that we don't expect," Hill added.

Maggie Lawson revealed that it surprises her that people are still talking about the show almost 16 years later, but she said none of it...

From go, the third Psych movie was simply pregnant with possibilities.

Premiering this Thursday on the Peacock streaming service, Psych 3: This Is Gus finds the titular “Groomzilla” (played by Dulé Hill) and Bff Shawn (James Roday Rodriguez, who also co-wrote the movie) valiantly attempting to track down mom-to-be Selene’s estranged husband, in preparation for a shotgun wedding before the birth of Baby Guster.

Art imitating life, in the case of Psych crime solver Carlton Lassiter, has profoundly moved series vet Timothy Omundson.

Omundson suffered a major stroke in April 2017, just as production on the original Psych: The Movie was getting underway; as such, Lassiter only appears via a brief FaceTime call with Juliet. In 2020, Psych 2: Lassie Come Home, as its title suggested, brought Omundson back to a greater degree, pinning the central mystery on the shooting of Lassiter, who then also suffered a stroke from which he started to recover throughout the TV-movie.

Yes, Shawn and Gus, there is such a thing as a Peacock streaming service. And, as with the previous movie, it will be the home for Psych 3 in November.
