PBS' New British Crime Series Earns a Rotten Tomatoes Rating That Rivals 'Broadchurch'
Image
The latest in a long line of PBScrime dramas, Patience is a British crime thriller that has already proven incredibly popular, despite only debuting a week ago. Starring Heartstopper's Ella Maisy Purvis as autistic archivist Patience Evans and A Knight's Tale's Laura Fraser as Detective Inspector Bea Metcalf, the series sees this unlikely duo team up to not just solve crime, but change each other's lives forever. Currently, on review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes, the PBS crime thriller has earned a huge 92% critics' score, with a strong 82% audience score to boot.

Patience Season 2 officially began filming back in May 2025, with the ever-brilliant Doctor Who and Bridget Jones star Jessica Hynes joining the cast.

8 Most Evil Characters in Breaking Bad, Ranked
Image
When Breaking Bad comes to mind, it’s most definitely always Walter White who you think of, right? Especially the evil mastermind he turns into at the end of it all. But was Walter the worst guy of all? Sure, he deliberately created an empire that ultimately led to the downfall of the very family he promised to protect. But was he the worst? Absolutely not.

“Evil” in this universe isn’t just about body count. It’s about intent. About how comfortably these people cross moral lines and how little sleep they lose afterward. So no, this isn’t your typical “best villains” list. This is the evil scale where cold detachment can be scarier than rage, and a polite “ma’am” might precede a bullet to the head.

From cartel demons to corporate killers, here are the most evil characters in Breaking Bad, ranked from bad to absolute nightmare fuel.

Heath Ledger's 59% Rotten Tomatoes Medieval Action Comedy Finds Free Streaming Home
Image
Heath Ledger is widely considered a once-in-a-generation actor. His versatility, range, and the kinds of roles he chose to play created a filmography unlike any other. Now, one of his fan-favorite movies, A Knight's Tale, has found a free streaming home for fans to watch.

Written and directed by Brian Helgeland, A Knight’s Tale follows peasant-born William Thatcher (Ledger), who begins a quest to change his stars, find love, and rock his medieval world. ‘Patience’ Boss on Depicting Autism as a Strength & Diverting From Source Material in New Crime Drama
Image
[Warning: The following contains Major spoilers for the Patience series premiere.] Neurodivergent characters are getting more frequent representation on TV. BritBox’s Ludwig, while not outright saying that its titular character is on the autism spectrum, shows how neurodivergent, out-of-the-box thinking can help solve crimes. PBS Masterpiece’s newest detective series, Patience, does something similar, but this time through drama instead of comedy, and it is explicitly about a woman with autism. The June 15 Patience series premiere debuted Ella Maisy Purvis as Patience Evans, a young autistic woman whose work in the York Criminal Records Office changes when Detective Bea Metcalf (Laura Fraser) recognizes her unique powers of deduction and asks her to join her team. Purvis herself has autism, and she made frequent contributions to the character’s creation thanks to that, both behind the scenes and through her performance. And there are neurodivergent writers in the writer’s room. Patience‘s lead writer, Matt Baker, tells...

Roush Review: Having ‘Patience’ Pays off in a Compelling British Crime Drama
Image
Patience is rarely a virtue for TV detectives, but the British cops in the absorbing procedural Patience (joining the 10th season of Grantchester on PBS‘s Sunday lineup) have never met anyone quite like Patience Evans. An autistic savant with a penchant for puzzles, Patience toils in serene solitude in the York police records office. That is, until her attention for detail and uncanny ability to find patterns no one else can see put Patience on the radar of Detective Inspector Bea Metcalf (Breaking Bad‘s appealing Laura Fraser), whose life is as messy as Patience’s is carefully ordered. Bea, a frazzled divorcee who has begun to suspect her troubled son might also be on the spectrum, pulls the fragile young woman out of her comfort zone to help solve a series of mystifying whodunits, despite a colleague’s warning that Patience is “temperamentally unsuitable for this kind of...

Patience Review: Challenging Stereotypes in Crime Drama
Image
In “Patience,” a young autistic cataloger named Patience Evans (Ella Maisy Purvis) and Detective Inspector Bea Metcalf (Laura Fraser) form a partnership that transports viewers to a world where the every day and the supernatural are intertwined. Patience is stuck in her empty archive, which you could call a “bureaucratic purgatory.” She has amazing pattern-spotting skills that aren’t being used. When Metcalf, a crazy detective, finds out about her skills, she and he are thrown into a series of strange investigations, starting with a man’s mysterious suicide.

This partnership reflects the larger societal commentary on neurodiversity. Metcalf represents the chaos of modern motherhood and work goals, while Patience’s problems with social interaction show the pressures of fitting in. They both question the usual ways of defining competence and success.

The series reflects the disorderly nature of its investigations with its absurdities, such as drugs that make people more easily persuaded.

The famous Albuquerque home that was used to represent Walter White's house in Breaking Bad is now up for sale. Potential buyers should be forewarned, however, that owning the home will come with a risk of getting pizzas thrown onto the roof.

Per Kob 4 in New Mexico, the Breaking Bad house has hit the market more than a decade after the original series ended its run. The house was made famous when it was used as the home for the White family in the show, but the owners hadn't foreseen just how iconic it would become when they first agreed to let the TV film there. At first, the family members living there welcomed fans who stopped by to take pictures at the house, but as the popularity of Breaking Bad grew, it became excessive.

Sons of Anarchy features many characters who are both fan favorites but also irredeemable. Set in a world of crime and chaos, bad situations lead to even worse choices. Before anyone realizes, things are too far gone to be saved.

Shows with no redeemable characters have their own charm. They tend to tackle dark and forbidden topics like revenge, cannibalism and war. Many shows have irredeemable characters like Jax. They may have done one really bad thing, or they have done several over the course of the entire series. From House of the Dragon to Yellowjackets to Breaking Bad, these pitch-black and morally grey characters have caused fans to think about the damning choices they made.

Walter White Is Far Gone in Breaking Bad

As Breaking Bad's protagonist, Walter White is a sympathetic character, similar to Jax Teller in Sons of Anarchy. However, throughout the course of the crime series,...

Actors Who Will Always Be Remembered For One Character
Image
Your browser does not support the video tag.

Cinema has long been one of the best mediums for storytelling, with a range of dynamic and talented actors helping bring to life these stories. While all major actors turn in memorable careers that span numerous roles, some actors leave an indelible mark on a particular character. Although these actors can have other iconic characters under their belt, there's no denying that a role becomes almost synonymous with their performer.

Although Hollywood doesn't always stick the landing with some castings, others are so strong that it can be difficult to imagine anyone else in the role. This similarly applies to TV, where actors will spend years playing the same character as the two progressively blend into one person. Indeed, some characters are so inseparable from their actors that it's almost impossible to recast without angering fans or failing to live up to expectations.

Even though Breaking Bad fans knew what the endgame would be for the origin stories of Saul Goodman and Mike Ehrmantraut in the prequel series, Better Call Saul, the show managed to keep surprising them in more ways than they could have imagined. It was the kind of show where fans would analyze the hidden and obvious symbolisms that were placed throughout each episode, and rejoice at the fan service provided by returning characters and Easter egg references. If a fan happened to notice what might have been an ominous piece of foreshadowing, they were usually right about it. The amount of hype that had been built up around the rumor of Giancarlo Esposito reprising his...

Breaking Bad's Bryan Cranston Makes Surprise Return as Walter White in Anti-Littering PSA
Image
Heisenberg has returned with a special message for anyone thinking about littering. Bryan Cranston has appeared in a public service ad campaign as his Breaking Bad character to discourage people from littering in the state of New Mexico.

Per the NY Post, the new ads featuring Cranston were first unveiled in an arthouse movie theater in Santa Fe. The PSA is called "Breaking Bad Habits," and it features Cranston's Walter White rolling a barrel through the New Mexico desert, similar to how he'd done so in a memorable Breaking Bad scene. In the PSA, however, Walter is revealed to be collecting trash from the ground left behind by careless litterbugs. Squashing a paper cup from Los Polos Hermanos, the drug kingpin warns, "Keep litter out of my territory." The ad spot, shared online by New Mexico Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham, can be watched below.

10 TV Characters The Shows Didnt Know What To Do With
Image
Sometimes, TV shows introduce characters who seem fundamental to the story, but it becomes clear that the writers aren't sure what to do with them after their initial storyline. The result is often that the TV show will repeat the same story many times, focusing on one character. Maybe said character will eventually be written out of the show when the actor or writers have had enough, but they may be needed for one particular future storyline.

Some TV show love interests that were suddenly dropped and great female TV characters that deserved better ended up in these circumstances because creativity had run out concerning their arcs. Great TV shows should effectively use all their characters, at least providing a reason for them to be shelved for a while if screen time is limited. However, it is hard to feel like some shows did not waste characters when they are...

The Best Comedy Adventure Movies
Image
Adventure has served as one of the greatest underpinnings of storytelling since the earliest days of fiction, and that holds equally true in cinema. From quests to find lost treasures to heroes rescuing damsels in distress, the genre utilizes many of the most popular tropes and themes in fiction. However, as with any genre, adventure is incredibly versatile, and is often merged with other genres, including comedy.

The merger of comedy and adventure has led to some of Hollywood's most entertaining and uplifting films, from '80s classics to modern-day hijinks. These movies continue to be great, all-ages stories that combine some of the best ingredients in cinema, and include some fan-favorite franchises. Adding comedy to a movie is almost always a sign of mainstream success, and nowhere is this truer than in adventure.

Paul Bettany & Alan Tudyk Have The Best A Knight's Tale 2 Idea (But It Still Shouldn't Happen)
Image
A Knight's Tale sequel idea by Bettany and Tudyk was rejected by Netflix and Sony, likely for the best in preserving the original's charm. The idea of a sequel facing hurdles due to Netflix's concerns validates why A Knight's Tale 2 should not happen to honor Ledger's memory. The potential sequel plot involving William's daughter learning to joust brings a full-circle moment, better left as a nostalgic memory.

Paul Bettany and Alan Tudyk once pitched an A Knight's Tale sequel idea to director Brian Helgeland, and though it's the perfect sequel story, it's for the best that it never happened. The two actors, who starred alongside Heath Ledger in the original 2001 movie, inspired Helgeland to bring their pitch to Sony and Netflix, who entertained the idea before deciding it was unlikely to succeed. This is a bit of a disappointment, especially considering the ever-growing cult-classic status of A Knight's Tale. Still,...

Height can create visual balance, intimidation, and unexpected contrasts in character dynamics. The diverse heights of the cast shape the series' storytelling visually.

Breaking Bad is celebrated as one of the quintessential TV dramas, acclaimed for its intricate storytelling and compelling character development but fans have also been interested in more personal questions like, "how tall is Skyler White?" Director Reveals Netflix’s Algorithm Rejected a Pitch for a Heath Ledger Comedy Sequel: ‘It’s the Strangest Thing’
Image
Despite growing popularity, a sequel to A Knight's Tale was rejected by Netflix due to lack of interest in the film. Director Brian Helgeland's pitch for turned down by Netflix testing algorithms. The unique blend of history and modern music in the original movie starring Heath Ledger continues to attract audiences.

While many sequel scripts have been scrapped in Hollywood, it seems that Brian Helgeland’s attempts to deliver a follow-up to the Heath Ledger movie A Knight’s Tale was scuppered by a Netflix algorithm.

In a new interview with the filmmaker, he explained that he had been keen to do a sequel to the medieval comedy but, despite continuing to be a popular choice among film lovers, his pitch to Netflix was denied on the basis that their algorithm didn’t think there was enough interest in it. Speaking to Inverse, Helgeland was asked about the potential sequel,...

A Knight's Tale Sequel Could've Happened — But Netflix's Algorithm Killed It
Image
Brian Helgeland's 2001 film "A Knight's Tale" is based on the first of the Canterbury Tales by Geoffrey Chaucer, but it has as much to do with 14th-century medieval literature as "Wayne's World." The film features characters singing Queen songs and one of the characters invents the Nike "swoop" as a brand for her armor. The story involves William Thatcher (Heath Ledger) a handsome young cove who aims to win jousting tournaments and be welcomed as one of the king's knights. It's a raucous, lightweight, silly movie that is deeply beloved by a very specific age group, that is: those who were between 15 and 17 in May of 2001.

It also depicted Ledger at the height of his heartthrob powers, as well as Paul Bettany (as Chaucer), Rufus Sewell as the villain, Shannyn Sossamon as Ledger's would-be paramour, and a trio of brilliant comedian sidekicks in Mark Addy, Laura Fraser, and Alan Tudyk.

The Mummy (2017)
The Chaotic Queer Joy of A Knight’s Tale
The Mummy (2017)
Aside from being a rollicking, romantic romp, The Mummy (1999) has carved out an iconic place among movie lovers for what Tor.com’s Leah Schnelbach describes as its chaotic bisexual energy. Here is a movie with an ensemble cast whose combined hotness, sheer charisma, and bucking of gender and societal norms make it so that anyone can see themselves in a variety of characters—and perhaps make some breakthroughs in realizing who they’re attracted to.

As Maggie Tokuda-Hall summed up, “Hot people being horny on main; campy violence; himbos.” But while The Mummy is a unique modern classic, it’s not the only one to spark a bisexual awakening among fans: May I present its equally chaotic bisexual contemporary, Brian Helgeland’s delightful 2001 film, A Knight’s Tale.

Layering medieval anachronism over the familiar beats of a sports narrative, only with jousting replacing football or baseball, A Knight’s Tale succeeds...

Bob Odenkirk in Better Call Saul (2015)
Better Call Saul Season 6 Release Date, Cast, Trailer, and Plot
Bob Odenkirk in Better Call Saul (2015)
The last ride of Jimmy McGill is almost upon us. Better Call Saul season 6 will be the show’s last season and it will once and for all showcase the final transition of loveable up-and-coming lawyer Jimmy McGill into scummy criminal (emphasis on criminal) lawyer Saul Goodman. If Breaking Bad was the story of one man’s transition from Mr. Chips to Scarface, Better Call Saul is the story of one man caught between the idealized version of himself that he knows he could be and the less than reputable version of himself the world sees him as. This season, the idealized version will lose the fight, but he’ll surely go down swinging.

In official statement, showrunner Peter Gould had this to say about the final season of Better Call Saul:

“From day one of Better Call Saul, my dream was to tell the complete story of our complicated and compromised hero,...
