Creating Star Wars' Blue Milk Was More Complicated Than You Might Think
Image
"Star Wars: Episode IV -- A New Hope" is a film of contrasts. On the one hand, it's a high fantasy tale about noble knights and swashbuckling pirates in an eternal battle against the forces of evil led by a cackling space wizard. On the other, it takes place in a universe where a young, naive, and annoying farm boy complains about being stuck working on his family's farm instead of being able to go out for a fun night on the town with his friends.

Indeed, the movie is full of small details that make Luke Skywalker's (Mark Hamill) home life feel like a warped reflection of everyday life for so many people who've watched the film over time. Perhaps nothing captures this better than Luke's blue milk, which he pours into a glass as he argues with his Uncle Owen (Phil Brown) and Aunt Beru (Shelagh Fraser...

Aunt Beru Was Always A Badass (Obi-Wan Kenobi Just Proved It)
Image
Aunt Beru has always been a likable Star Wars character, with the Obi-Wan Kenobi Disney+ TV show only proving just how much of a badass she truly was. Originally played by Shelagh Fraser, Beru was introduced in the first Star Wars film (later called A New Hope). This was an older Beru, a steadying hand to guide the young Luke Skywalker. She entered the picture alongside Phil Brown's Owen Lars as Luke's aunt before the tragic fate that befalls both characters after the Empire learned of their nephew's ownership of C-3Po and R2-D2.

Despite having positive qualities in the prequel trilogy Star Wars films, which established a background for Beru, her return in Obi-Wan Kenobi added the strongest layers. These elements introduced in the final episode of the Disney+ show work in their own right, but make some of Aunt Beru aspects from A New Hope more prominent.

Let's Talk About That Milking Scene In Star Wars: The Last Jedi
Image
At the end of J.J. Abrams' 2015 film "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" a young woman named Rey (Daisy Ridley) has spent a portion of the movie attempting to located a long-lost Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill), who has been living in isolation on a hidden planet. The final shot of the film is Rey handing Luke his old lightsaber, hoping that he will emerge from exile in order to join a new war effort that had been started in his absence. At the head of the 2017 sequel, Rian Johnson's "Star Wars: The Last Jedi," Luke takes the lightsaber and throws it over his shoulder, annoyed to have been offered. He later points out, essentially, that he has no desire to join in any kind of fight. He has grown nihilistic and bitter. He is now a disappointed idealist whose only recourse is to live humbly in complete isolation.

On his island,...

Original Star Wars Tatooine Sets Saved by Tunisian Locals

More than 40 years ago, George Lucas set up shop on the edge of the Sahara Desert in Tunisia, nestled between Algeria and Libya, to film scenes on his desert planet of Tatooine for Star Wars: A New Hope. He even named the planet after the Tunisian village of Tatouine, and now locals are doing their part to restore the sets that have been left behind for more than four decades, while a tourist agency is trying to draw more visitors to the area. While for many years, threats of terrorism kept Star Wars fans from visiting the once-volatile area, that isn't the case anymore.

Dw.com reports that there are two spots in particular that have become a haven for Star Wars fans, Ong Jimel, which lies in southwest Tunisia, and the village of Matmata. While these names may not have significant meaning on their own, they were quite important in Star Wars lore.

Star Wars Moisture Farming Is Becoming a Reality
Anthony Daniels, Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, James Earl Jones, David Prowse, and Kenny Baker in Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope (1977)
The 1977 classic Star Wars: A New Hope gave fans their first look at this galaxy far, far away, and our introduction to one of the most iconic characters of all time, Mark Hamill's Luke Skywalker. While fans could easily relate to Luke's plight, wanting to leave his adopted family's farm to strike out on his own, we learned quickly that almost everything in this universe is different than our own, including the farm he lived on. Luke's uncle Owen Lars (Phil Brown) and aunt Beru Lars (Shelagh Fraser) ran a moisture farm on the desert planet of Tatooine, where they used devices called "vaporators" to draw moisture from the air to produce drinking water, and today we have word that this fictional technology may become a reality.

CNN has presented a report from Amin Al-Habaibeh, a Professor of Intelligent Engineering Systems at Nottingham Trent University, as part of an...

Revealed: Star Wars Originally Had Female X-Wing Pilots
Quick! Name three female characters from the original Star Wars! Well, there was Princess Leia. And Luke.s aunt Beru (Shelagh Fraser). And . um. Well . there was, uh, Ashoka? No, that was Clone Wars. Were any of the Jawas female? Clearly George Lucas wasn.t going out of his way to be politically correct back in 1977 when he took audiences to a galaxy far, far away for the initial Star Wars. In fact, according to a story on Buzzfeed, Lucas went out of his way to cut three female Rebel pilots who were shot on camera during the climatic attack against the Death Star, then clipped from the final cut before it reached theaters. Kudos actually go out to Lucas for coming up with female fighter pilots, and using actresses of varying ages. As you can see in the second photo, one woman was nearly a senior citizen, suggesting that...
