The second season of Landman is getting even bigger — and more star-studded. British-American actor Guy Burnet and Tony-winning actress Miriam Silverman have joined the cast of the hit Paramount+ drama. Burnet and Silverman will appear in recurring guest roles opposite returning leads Billy Bob Thornton, Demi Moore, Andy Garcia, Sam Elliott, and Ali Larter, alongside Jacob Lofland, Michelle Randolph, Paulina Chávez, Kayla Wallace, Mark Collie, James Jordan, and Colm Feore.
Burnet will portray Charlie Newsom, a charming oil and gas engineer with a sharp mind and a magnetic edge. Silverman will play Greta Stidham, a tough-as-nails university admissions counselor who’s not easily impressed — or intimidated. Burnet, known for his roles in Ray Donovan, Counterpart, and The Affair, most recently appeared alongside Arnold Schwarzenegger in Netflix’s Fubar and had a supporting role in Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer. Next up, he stars opposite Jeff Daniels in Reykjavík and alongside Samuel L. Jackson in The Beast.

He joins his former co-stars Kelly Reilly and Cole Hauser, who are leading the Taylor Sheridan series as their characters from the original series, Beth Dutton and Rip Wheeler, respectively.
As Deadline revealed in December, the show is expected to remain on the same present-day timeline, with the new offshoot sharing the most DNA with the mothership of any show in the universe to date.
The original series follows the Dutton family that controls the largest contiguous cattle ranch in the United States. Reilly’s Beth is John Dutton III’s (Kevin Costner) daughter, a former head of acquisitions at the Schwartz & Meyer financial firm. Taylor Sheridan may be the name most people associate with Special Ops: Lioness, but plot twist, he wasn’t even the original showrunner. That title belonged to Thomas Brady, who initially led the charge with a full writers’ room. Sheridan took over later and rewrote all the scripts solo. However, when it came time to shoot the show, he wasn’t on set. Cinematographer and director Paul Cameron confirmed as much during a Screen Rant interview that aired back on July 18, 2023:
“In this case, we had two scripts when we arrived, and [neither] Taylor nor anyone from his camp directly related was showrunning it. There were some people from his camp, but an actual showrunner per se wasn’t present, so it was a lot of conversations with both Taylor and Michael Friedman, who works side-by-side with Taylor on the production side of things. It’s basically long-distance showrunners.”

Taylor Sheridan is a man who likes to be in control of his babies – that’s of the TV and movie variety, obviously. However, it looks like his extensive list of projects means he can no longer be a continuous presence on all of his upcoming shows, and according to Landman star Ali Larter, the Yellowstone creator is taking a big step back from the oilfield drama.
While Sheridan wrote the series, directed some episodes of Season 1, and had a strong input in the making of Landman’s record-breaking first season, it looks like he won’t be stepping behind the camera for any of Season 2’s episodes, which will instead all be directed by Stephen Kay, who helmed half of the original run. Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Larter said:
“[Stephen] is directing all 10 episodes this year. Last year, Michael Friedman directed three; Stephen directed, I think, five; and Taylor directed a couple.

It looks like Landman Season 2 is shaking things up behind the scenes — and yes, this time it’s Taylor Sheridan taking a step back. While Sheridan wrote and directed key episodes of the Paramount+ oil drama’s first season, star Ali Larter just confirmed that the show’s architect won’t be directing any of the new season’s ten episodes. Instead, that job falls entirely to Stephen Kay, a YellowstoneandMayor of Kingstown veteran who directed several episodes last season, as Larter revealed in a new interview with The Hollywood Reporter — however, Larter noted that she expected Sheridan to direct her scenes personally as he had done during the first season of the hit show.
“[Stephen] is directing all 10 episodes this year. Last year, Michael Friedman directed three; Stephen directed, I think, five; and Taylor directed a couple. That being said, Taylor would come in and direct all my stuff because...

The season two finale of 1923 brought in the show’s largest audience ever.
Paramount+ says the Yellowstone prequel closed its season with 14 million viewers worldwide over seven days. That’s a 41 percent improvement over the 10 million for first season finale in February 2023.
Of note, what Paramount+ calls “viewers” comes from the same formula — total viewing time divided by run time — other streamers use to call “views.” With or without the “er,” that math, in 1923’s case, yields the equivalent of 14 million complete runs of the season finale, which stretched to two hours. That would put its total viewing time at 1.68 billion minutes worldwide.
Paramount+ also says that season two of 1923 grew by about 46 percent from season one. It joins Landman and Tulsa King as the streamer’s top three original series to date. All three shows come from MTV Entertainment Studios, 101 Studios and Taylor Sheridan’s Bosque Ranch Productions...

“1923” set records for Paramount+ right until the end. The Season 2 finale became the most-watched episode in the history of the drama, securing 14 million global viewers. And with that, “1923” has officially joined the ranks of “Landman” and “Tulsa King” to become one of Paramount+’s top three global series of all time. It should be noted that all three of these record-breaking series come from super producer Taylor Sheridan.
Viewership for the Season 2 finale was up 41% compared to Season 1’s finale, which saw 10 million global viewers. As for the season overall, the average viewership was up 46% compared to Season 1. These numbers are based on internal streaming data from Paramount+. “1923” was also a hit on social media with Season 2 delivering 163 million views. The Season 2 finale of 1923 has amassed 14M views in the week since it debuted on Paramount+, per parent company Paramount Global.
That’s the biggest audience ever for the series, marking a 41% versus the Season 1 finale audience of 10M. This caps a successful season of growth for the Yellowstone prequel with Season 2 averaging a 46% increase over the Season 1 audience, according to Paramount.
Paramount Global now defines “viewers” as total watch time divided by run time. Deadline has denoted this metric as “views,” similar to reporting from other streamers like Netflix and Disney+, given that this is an estimation of the individual views, rather than a calculation of how many people were actually watching.
The series was pretty buzzy on social this season as well, delivering eight times the social views of the first season with 163M.

Taylor Sheridan and Paramount+ have proven to be a dream team. After the success of the Yellowstone franchise, Sheridan added another star-studded series, Landman, to his growing Paramount+ slate.
Paramount+ renewed Landman for Season 2 earlier this month, two months after its Season 1 finale. The series, which stars Academy Award-winning actor Billy Bob Thornton and Academy Award nominee Demi Moore, has drawn strong viewership numbers. Paramount+ announced today that production on Landman Season 2 has officially started in Texas and released a photo of Thornton holding the script for the first episode.
Image via Paramount+
Filming for Landman Season 1 started in February 2024 and concluded in June 2024. It was released on Paramount+ on Nov. 17, 2024. If Season 2 follows a similar pattern of a four-month filming schedule, Landman Season 2 could premiere in early 2026. Paramount+ hasn't confirmed the release window.
Based on the Boomtown podcast, Landman follows Tommy Norris (Thornton), a landman for an oil company.

Updated: Taylor Sheridan’s Yellowstone universe is eying further expansion beyond Paramount Network and Paramount+. A potential new offshoot would air on sibling broadcast network CBS.
No deals are believed to be in place for the procedural, which started hitting the rumor mill more than a month ago. Just like it did back then, CBS would not comment to Deadline on the prospect of an original Yellowstone series on the network. The new series would star Yellowstone‘s Luke Grimes reprising his role as livestock commissioner and former Navy Seal Kayce Dutton.
The existing Yellowstone series are produced by MTV Entertainment Studios. I hear there is no current involvement by sibling CBS Studios, which produces all in-house CBS drama procedurals though one of the showrunners on its roster, Seal Team‘s Spencer Hudnut, is shepherding the new show.

Paramount+ has officially renewed Landman starring Oscar winner Billy Bob Thornton and co-created by Taylor Sheridan and Christian Wallace. After being listed as one of the Top 10 Subscription Video on Demand (SVOD) original series for the fourth quarter of 2024, the renewal is not surprising.
Paramount+ reports that the fourth quarter Top 10 SVOD list marked the first time a streamer, other than Netflix, has earned three spots. Paramount+ was represented by Tulsa King (#4), Landman (#8), and Lioness (#9).
“Landman was one of the biggest shows of the year because of Taylor Sheridan’s unique ability to tap into the cultural zeitgeist, harnessing the Neo-Western themes of rugged individualism, ambition, and working-class struggles set against contemporary debates around energy, climate change and economic growth,” stated Chris McCarthy, President and CEO, Showtime/MTV Entertainment Studios and Paramount Media Networks.

This article contains mention of suicide.
Yellowstone has sadly come to an end after the season 5 finale, and it all happened without Kevin Costner's John Dutton III, since the actor exited the show in 2023. If Costner had stuck around for the second part of Yellowstone season 5, things might have been a lot different. However, the neo-Western drama TV show created by Taylor Sheridan and John Linson has seemingly concluded (unless the rumors about Yellowstone season 6 still happening are true), and John's story is over.
A few days ahead of the Yellowstone series finale, Deadline reported that a spinoff revolving around Rip and Beth, with Kelly Reilly and Cole Hauser set to reprise their roles, is officially in development.
The Yellowstone season 5, part 2 premiere revealed that John died presumably by suicide, but viewers (and Beth) knew that wasn't the truth. In reality, Sarah Atwood hired assassins to kill John. They staged it as a suicide,...

How Did Yellowstone team conceal all spoilers? (Photo Credit – Facebook)
But while fans were busy unraveling the chaos on screen, the team behind the hit series was playing its own high-stakes game off-screen—keeping spoilers locked up tighter than the Dutton family vault.
The season’s biggest gut-punch came with John Dutton’s (Kevin Costner) shocking death, but it wasn’t just the storytelling that left fans floored. Executive producer Christina Voros spilled the beans on how the crew kept this colossal twist (and more) under wraps. Turns out, it involved some sneaky, next-level planning.
First up: code words. To throw potential snoopers off the scent, the crew dubbed John’s death scene as “Crosby’s arrival” on call sheets. Innocuous, right? Voros explained, “For Colby’s [death], we called it ‘Colby’s arrival.’ And for Sarah’s, it was ‘Sarah arrives.’” The running theme of “arrivals” was so vague, even...

After Beth learns her father died in Yellowstone season 5, part 2, it is only a matter of time before she seeks vengeance, and she certainly does during the finale. Kelly Reilly's Beth has been a significant presence in the Paramount Network neo-Western drama since its beginning. Whether fans love or hate her, Beth is one of Yellowstone's most important characters. So, it makes sense why Beth has such a big role in the finale and why she is the one to avenge John Dutton by the time Yellowstone comes to an end.
Prior to the Paramount Network's airing of Yellowstone season 5, episode 14, Deadline confirmed that Taylor Sheridan is developing a spinoff focusing on Kelly Reilly as Beth Dutton and Cole Hauser as Rip Wheeler following the events of the finale.
