U.S.–Canada Film Co-Production Treaty Floated At Cannes Amid Trump Tariff Standoff
Image
Canadian film producer and distributor Leonardo Fuica says its time for filmmakers from Canada and the U.S. to develop and make movies together as official treaty co-productions.

“Americans already come up here (Canada) to shoot, because it’s cheaper and the quality of the technicians is the same,” Fuica told The Hollywood Reporter on Tuesday from the Cannes Film Festival. “Why U.S. producers could not do that with government infrastructure too? If they could bring some money, why wouldn’t the (Canadian) government help these companies come here and create more jobs?”

His comments came against the backdrop of Donald Trump’s surprise proposal for a 100 percent tariff on foreign films quickly giving way to proposals for Americans for the first time to participate in official co-production treaty projects to halt Hollywood’s production exodus.

Fuica, who launched his new Canadian distribution outfit Silence Films in Cannes as...

‘Camping Trip’ VOD Review
Image
Stars: Leonardo Fuica, Caitlin Cameron, Hannah Forest Briand, Alex Gravenstein | Written by Leonardo Fuica | Directed by Demian Fuica, Leonardo Fuica

The events around us shape a lot of the entertainment we see on television and in movies. Camping Trip is a movie that shows this is exactly the case. Taking place while the stresses of Covid shapes the world, a camping trip should be a welcome escape.

When two couples decide to go on a camping trip, the thoughts of leaving Covid behind offers them some hope. When a shady handover though near where they are camping goes wrong, they find themselves implicated in a crime that could tear their friendships apart.

One thing that is very obvious about Camping Trip is that it is set under the shadow of Covid. We have characters that are obviously sceptical about such things as wearing masks, but also ones that are following the rules.

Camping Trip review – pandemic lakeside R&r becomes operatic bloodbath

An impressively shot slo-mo brawl scene fails to elevate an illogical Covid-era campout that sees actors and directors overcompensating for a weak script

This is the cinematic equivalent of the stopped clock telling the right time twice a day: a film full of stylistic overkill suddenly runs into the material that justifies it. Near the end of this otherwise unconvincing lakeside thriller from Canada’s Fuica brothers, there’s suddenly a protracted murderous brawl shot in an ecstatic ultra slo-mo sequence. It dazzles not just on its own terms, but for briefly elevating the film into something innovative, rather than the redundant showboating that’s gone before.

Maybe the Fuicas had too much time on their hands. Camping Trip is the fruit of Covid-19 lockdown, and hinges on a tenuous pandemic tie-in. Pent-up party people Ace (Alex Gravenstein) and Coco (Hannah Forest Briand) hook up with besties Enzo (co-director Leonardo Fuica...

First trailer & poster for Covid horror ‘Camping Trip’
Image
Fuica Film Pictures and 8Cube have released the first trailer and poster for their upcoming horror, Camping Trip, which will be available on Digital Download in the UK, USA & Canada and Australia and New Zealand from 16th August.

Camping Trip stars Leo Zola (Leonardo Fuica), Caitlin Cameron, Hannah Forest Briand and Alex Gravenstein and is directed by Leonardo and Demian Fuica, who both make their English language feature-length directorial debuts.

In the summer of 2020, two couples decide to go on a Covid era camping trip after months of being in lockdown. The freedom of nature and the company of their best friends offer the group a rare sense of normality, but though secluded, they’re not alone. Nearby, during a botched drop off, two goons decide to go rogue; inadvertently, implicating the campers. What started as a fun-filled vacation quickly turns into a test of loyalty and survival. Suddenly the...
