Lionsgate is going through a turbulent period following its split with Starz, reporting a $109 million net loss in its latest quarterly earnings report on Thursday.

Excluding one-item items, the adjusted loss for Lionsgate’s reported fiscal first quarter ending June 30 was $88 million, or 32 cents a share. Analysts surveyed by Yahoo Finance had expected a loss of 19 cents a share.

In a statement, CEO Jon Feltheimer focused more on the studio’s future, which includes the recent dating of the Antoine Fuqua biopic “Michael” for May 2026 after it was previously announced that the film would move out of the 2025 slate. Lionsgate has named Erin Westerman president of its Motion Picture Group, TheWrap has learned. Adam Fogelson, Lionsgate Motion Picture Group chair, shared the news Thursday.

In her role, Westerman will oversee all aspects of the development and production of Lionsgate’s slate of theatrical film releases. She will report to Fogelson.

“Erin’s profound impact on our studio cannot be overstated,” Fogelson said in a statement to TheWrap. “She has earned the respect of her peers and talent through hard work, incredible story sense, and great choices, whether related to cast or the direction of some of our most important IP. However, it is her fierce intelligence, passion for theatrical moviegoing, and ease of manner that have made Lionsgate an attractive home for filmmakers who continue to do their most creative work here. Erin Westerman has been named president of the Lionsgate Motion Picture Group, where she will oversee all aspects of the development and production of Lionsgate’s slate of diversified theatrical film releases. Physical production will also report to Westerman. The announcement was made Thursday by Adam Fogelson, chair of Lionsgate Motion Picture Group, to whom Westerman will report.

Erin Westerman has been formally named president of the Lionsgate Motion Picture Group, replacing Nathan Kahane after he recently announced plans to step down by the end of the year.

Kahane’s pending move back to film producing opened the way for Westerman, most recently president of production and development, to take over all studio production under Motion Picture Group chair Adam Fogelson.

Kahane has been Motion Picture Group president since May 2018, when Lionsgate acquired Good Universe, the production company he founded with Joe Drake. Drake stepped down from Lionsgate in early 2024 to pave the way for Fogelson, which in a way foreshadowed Kahane’s eventual exit.

Westerman, a former Good Universe and Disney exec, joined Lionsgate in 2017 as executive vp production, overseeing the studio’s creative film production team, before moving up the ranks. In her new role, she will oversee all development and production of Lionsgate’s theatrical film release slate.

This was to be expected in the wake of the news that Lionsgate Motion Picture Group president Nathan Kahane is departing at year’s end for a producing deal with the studio. Westerman was previously president of Motion Picture Production.

Following its critically-acclaimed opening at the inaugural SXSW London earlier this year, the ambitious and unconventional new Eminem-produced documentary ‘Stans’ will launch globally in cinemas and exclusively at AMC Theatres (NYSE: AMC) in the United States for a limited time beginning August 7, 2025, through August 10.

To accompany the release announcement a teaser trailer has also been revealed.

Moving, funny, and revealing, the film offers a raw and riveting exploration of Eminem’s legendary career through the eyes of his most devoted fans.

Released in 2000, Eminem’s song “Stan” — about an obsessive, unstable fan — remains iconic. So iconic that the term stan was officially added to the Oxford English Dictionary in 2017.

The song and its storyline serves as a guiding light for this unconventional and fully authorised feature, which follows a cast of real-life ‘stans’ whose deep personal connections to Eminem mirror some of the many themes found throughout his lyrics.

A new documentary about rapper legend Eminem is headed for a limited run on the big screen.

AMC Theatres has come aboard to distribute Stans in the U.S., and has committed to playing the doc in more than 135 of its domestic locations beginning Aug. 7 and ending Aug. 10. Overseas, Trafalgar Releasing will release the doc at the same time in more than 1,600 theaters across 50 markets.

The pact follows in the wake of AMC directly distributing Taylor Swift’s concert pic The Eras Tour and Renaissance: A Film By Beyoncé.
