Cameron Diaz's Comeback Movie Lands On Netflix's Elite Most-Viewed Charts 3 Months After Its Release
Image
The new Cameron Diaz movie has become a global streaming sensation. The American actor became an A-list star off the back of prominent romantic comedies from the late 1990s, including My Best Friend's Wedding (in which she played Julia Roberts' romantic rival) and There's Something About Mary (in which she played the title role opposite Ben Stiller). She has also taken on major projects in other genres, including starring in 2000's Charlie's Angels and its 2003 sequel Full Throttle, as well as voicing Princess Fiona in DreamWorks' animated Shrek franchise.

However, for a full decade between 2014 and 2024, she starred in no movies at all. Cameron Diaz retired from acting, with her final project until 2025 being the 2014 remake of Annie starring Quvenzhané Wallis and Jamie Foxx. She spent that decade focusing on her family, working to "reclaim" her life, and working in the wellness space, including launching an organic wine brand and publishing The Longevity Book.

'There's Something About Mary' with Cameron Diaz and Ben Stiller, is a Streaming Hit
Image
Raunchy rom-com There's Something About Mary is climbing the streaming chart, currently sitting at number six on Hulu. Starring Ben Stiller and Cameron Diaz, the comedy was directed by the Farrelly Brothers (Peter and Bobby), and became a massive smash hit when it premiered in July 1998. The film went on to earn nearly $370 million at the global box office against a $23 million production budget. It currently sits at a positive 84% critical and, surprisingly, only 61% audience on Rotten Tomatoes.

Following the success of Dumb and Dumber in 1994, and, to a lesser extent, Kingpin in 1996, the Farrelly Brothers went to work on There's Something About Mary, which starred Stiller as Ted, Diaz as Mary, and Matt Dillon as Healy. Years after a disastrous high school date with his crush Mary (you have to see it to believe it), Ted gets another chance years later when his best friend Dom (Chris Elliott) suggests he find her.

The First Three 'Shrek' Films are Climbing the Netflix Chart as Fans Await 'Shrek 5'
Image
The first three Shrek movies have once again found themselves in the Netflix global Top 10. As of this writing, Shrek sits at number two, Shrek 2 is at number four, and Shrek the Third is at number eight. While none have yet to crack Netflix's United States top 10 chart, it proves that the animated classics are beloved by audiences worldwide.

When Shrek opened in 2001, it was one of DreamWorks Skg's earliest animated films. The studio was launched in 1994 by Hollywood and music legends Steven Spielberg, Jeffrey Katzenberg, and David Geffen. It was seismic, as it was the first major studio in decades and featured three of the most powerful people in entertainment. Spielberg was coming off the dual successes of Schindler's List and Jurassic Park, Katzenberg had turned around Disney's animated film division, and Geffen was one of the biggest music moguls on the planet.

How Netflix's 'Back in Action' Brought Cameron Diaz Out of Retirement
Image
Quick Links Diaz's Early Career and Retirement Why Did Diaz End Her Retirement, And What's Next?

Cameron Diaz is one of the most iconic actors of her generation. She's also one of the few who gave her career up. Diaz stepped away from acting in 2014, keeping a low profile ever since. However, she's set to end her 10-year hiatus with a spot in Netflix's upcoming film Back in Action alongside Jamie Foxx. Diaz and Foxx play two former CIA agents who are unexpectedly thrust back into the spy world when their secret identities are uncovered. Seems like a fitting plot and title for an un-retiring actress.

While Diaz is certainly not the first major star to walk away from the limelight, her case is unique. She wasn't in a career slump, nor was she dealing with any known health or personal issues. She just decided to walk away.

“For the first time in a really long time, I felt alive again. I felt like the bitch again,” Diaz says in the trailer, a remark that could double both for her character’s return to spy...

John Lithgow Comments on Possible Return as Lord Farquaad in Shrek 5
Image
Shrek's John Lithgow revealed he would be willing to reprise his role as Lord Farquaad if asked to join the franchise's upcoming fifth film. Unfortunately, Lithgow also confirmed that he's not a part of the new movie.

Speaking with People, Lithgow said he would "say yes in a minute" to joining the cast of Shrek 5 as Lord Farquaad, the villainous main antagonist of the franchise's first film. At the end of 2001's Shrek, Lithgow's character was eaten by the fire-breathing dragon who guarded Princess Fiona (Cameron Diaz), and Lithgow joked to people about Farquaad's death preventing him from reprising his role. "It turns out it's impossible to recover from being eaten by a dragon," he said, adding that he hasn't been approached about joining Shrek 5.

Cameron Diaz Explains Why Stepping Away From Acting In 2014 Was “Something I Had To Do”
Image
With an upcoming return to the screen next year, Cameron Diaz is opening up about her decade-long hiatus from acting.

The four-time Golden Globe nominee recently explained why she took an extensive break from Hollywood following her last role as Miss Hannigan in the 2014 Will Gluck-helmed update of Annie.

“For me, it was just something I had to do,” she said at Fortune‘s Most Powerful Women Summit. “It felt like something I had to do to reclaim my own life. And I just really didn’t care about anything else. I didn’t. Nobody’s opinion, nobody’s success, no one’s offer, no one’s anything could change my mind about my decision of taking care of myself and building the life that I really wanted to have. So, I think it really comes to: What are you passionate about? For me, it was to build my family.

Image
How can you not love Shrek? The friendly green ogre (voiced by Mike Myers) has become a pop-culture phenomenon, with fans eagerly anticipating the fifth installment in the franchise which releases in July 2026. But it's not just internet obsessives who proclaim that "Shrek is Love, Shrek is Life," as A-list actor Al Pacino recently revealed his love for the ogre in the most unexpected fashion. During an interview with the BBC to promote his new book, Sonny Boy: A Memoir, Pacino pulled out his phone to reveal a plastic case smothered with a Shrek collage.

"Who would be expecting Shrek? Who? It's mine," the actor said.

The moment caught everyone, including the journalist, off-guard. After re-gaining his composer, the interviewer asked Pacino "Can you explain why you Shrek it?" (which might be the greatest question ever asked by a journalist). Much to everyone's further surprise, the Scarface star's answer was surprisingly wholesome.

Speaking with The Hollywood Reporter, Cameron Diaz explained of both her decade-long break and her insistence on returning, “It was just the right time for my family. After Covid, we were in the house for a long time, which was amazing and the problem was we would probably stay there, we would still be there right now. 14 Years Later, This Part Of Shrek Forever After Still Bothers Me (& Shrek 5 Must Fix It)
Image
Shrek Forever After took the title ogre to an alternate timeline and back to his main one, but theres one thing at the end that still bothers me and Shrek 5 must fix it. Back in 2001, DreamWorks Animation brought Shrek, loosely based on William Steigs 1990 picture book of the same name. The success of Shrek established DreamWorks Animation as a competitor to Pixar and helped the studio grow, while also spawning a media franchise that currently covers movies, spinoffs, TV shows, a musical, short films, and more.

Shrek introduces the audience to the title ogre (voiced by Mike Myers), who, with the help of his new friend Donkey (Eddie Murphy), rescues Princess Fiona (Cameron Diaz) and breaks her curse, which permanently leaves her as an ogre. The following movies continued the story of Shrek and Fiona along with Donkey and saw them forming a family. The fourth movie, Shrek Forever After,...

“House of the Dragon is never beating the Shrek allegations”: From Alicent’s Green Dress to Rhaenys’ Dragon, Fans Have Enough Proof That Hotd is Inspired From Shrek
Image
Have any of you noticed a dash of fairy-tale enchantment embedded in the vast narrative of Ryan Condal & George R. R. Martin’s House of the Dragon? Well, prior to its majestic debut, the series was frequently likened to the Roy family saga Succession, which itself is a modern dance of power and betrayal. However, believe it or not, House of the Dragon seems to share its dragon fire not just with its famous predecessor, Game of Thrones, but also with the animated world of Shrek.

Cameron Diaz's return to acting includes exciting projects, with her role in Shrek 5 being a key highlight of her comeback. Original stars Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy, and Cameron Diaz are confirmed, but Antonio Banderas's return as Puss in Boots remains uncertain. Banderas's success as Puss and the financial performance of the Puss in Boots films suggest his inclusion in Shrek 5 is crucial.

DreamWorks Animation recently announced Shrek 5 but has yet to confirm one greatly lucrative and recurring franchise star's status in the forthcoming installment. It's been 14 years since the last Shrek movie, Shrek Forever After, and for a while there, a new sequel seemed like a far, far away pipe dream.
