Warning! This article contains Spoilers for Dexter: Resurrection season 1, episode 4.The creators of Dexter: Resurrection confirmed at San Diego Comic-Con that there was a very subtle cameo in episode 4 that most viewers probably missed. In Resurrection episode 4, Dexter (Michael C. Hall) sees a vision of an infamous serial killer after stepping into Leon Prater's (Peter Dinklage) museum of serial killers. Dexter has a vision then, and that character was played by a very important part of the Dexter franchise.
ScreenRant attended the Dexter: Resurrection panel at San Diego Comic-Con and learned that Resurrection executive producer and writer Scott Reynolds actually has a small cameo in episode 4 as infamous serial killer John Wayne Gacy. The footage of Gacy actually comes from Dexter: Original Sin episode 7, however, meaning Reynolds has recently had parts in two of the four Dexter shows.
Scott Reynolds also has a long history with the Dexter franchise.

Who would’ve thought that Dexter Morgan could be a social butterfly?
In Episode 4 of Dexter: Resurrection, Dexter infiltrates a luxurious dinner party while under cover as Ronald “Red” Schmidt, aka the Dark Passenger. After being picked up by Uma Thurman’s Charley, he arrives at the beautiful estate of Leon Prater (Peter Dinklage), a man who’s obsessed with serial killers, so much so that he collects their trophies and keeps them in his museum-like corridor. Prater has pieces like John Wayne Gacy’s clown costume, Jeffrey Dahmer’s bloody fridge, Charles Manson’s guitar, and even more notably,...

Spoiler Alert: This story discusses plot developments in Episode 4 of “Dexter: Resurrection,” currently streaming on Paramount+ Premium.
The Showtime series “Dexter: Resurrection,” which premiered July 11, follows the events of the 2021 limited series “Dexter: New Blood,” with serial killer of serial killers Dexter Morgan (Michael C. Hall) surviving being shot by his son Harrison (Jack Alcott), then following him to New York City.
In the fourth episode, which premiered on Paramount+ Premium on Friday, Dexter infiltrates a secret party for serial killers, including Gareth, aka the Gemini Killer (David Dastmalchian), and Mia, aka Lady Vengeance (Krysten Ritter).
“It creates a situation where there are these seemingly oppositional things going on,” Hall said at the Comic Con Variety Studio presented by Google TV on Friday. “He is in a situation where he is with like-minded people with whom he can connect in a substantive way, in ways that he can’t with other people.

We’ve been taking our time entering this new phase of life for Dexter (Michael C. Hall) and Harrison (Jack Alcott). The first episode was about setting the stage, the second about setting a new normal, and the third about getting to work. If that was the opening, this week’s fourth episode, “Call Me Red,” took the action into high gear. Let’s dive into a gripping new episode of Dexter: Resurrection! Spoilers Below.
A unique dinner party
As we ended last week, Dexter dispatched with Red (Marc Menchaca) and learned he’d been invited to a special gathering. The gathering promised to connect him to people with similar proclivities. This piqued Dexter’s interest as he saw it as a way to take more bad actors off the board. He’s returned to his old ways with a flourish, feeling more himself.
After taking a chance, he decides...

This is the episode that offers a glimpse of a life Dexter could lead, embracing his dark side with a walk on the wild side, far from the code he knows so well.
Dexter is a father, and he is concerned with Harrison’s future, but the lure of a banded group of like-minded folks could prove impossible to resist.
As he says, “It’s a dinner party for serial killers. An all-you-can-eat buffet for the dark passenger.”
(Zach Dilgard/Paramount+ with Showtime)
As thrilled as Dexter was stepping into Red’s shoes, thankfully, a part of him couldn’t let go of the code.
We’re not out of the woods yet. When’s the last time we’ve seen Dexter so damn… happy? “Who’s got a fake print and passes for red? This guy,” he said with a hint of a smile hiding far greater glee.

Mascot characters have been known to change over time in order to better suit the ever-shifting needs of their parent franchise, and this is especially true in the world of video games. From Lara Croft being turned into a younger and more vulnerable human being to Kratos going from kill-crazy monster to a loving father, I’d argue that there’s no better way of judging how a series has adapted to the world around them than by taking a closer look at their star character.

Nearly two full decades after competing in the first season of America’s Got Talent, singer Jessica Sanchez returned to the AGT stage on Tuesday for another shot at superstardom.
To be fair, though, Sanchez is already kind of a superstar. After being eliminated during the AGT semifinals back in 2006 (how freaky was it hearing Regis Philbin’s voice in that flashback?!), Sanchez went on to compete in Season 11 of American Idol, finishing in second place behind Phillip Phillips. She then appeared in two Season 4 episodes of Glee, performing as Frida Romero.

Serial killers aren’t heroes, but you’d never know it given the number of true crime stories and dramatized murderers currently populating television. Our culture has become obsessed with those who take lives and Dexter Morgan is partially responsible. Now, his TV resurrection aims to question that obsession.
When “Dexter” debuted in 2006, the Michael C. Hall character was considered TV’s first leading serial killer. What made him palpable was who he extinguished: other killers whose victims were less “deserving.” In his own way Dex was making Miami a safer place, all while feeding his innate bloodthirst.
Nearly two decades later, the appetite for fictional — or fictionalized — serial killers has evolved, with romanticized takes in shows like “Monsters,” “Hannibal” and “You.” Add in the true crime obsession and a trend of forgetting the victims, and there have been endless dissertations and theories about why we continue to make and watch these series.

Another year at Nevermore Academy is almost upon us, and what better way to celebrate than with the official trailer for Season 2 of Wednesday?
Dropping in two parts on Aug. 6 and Sept. 3, the show’s second season finds Wednesday Addams (Jenna Ortega) returning to school — or “the scene of the crime,” as she calls it in the trailer — where she’s hailed as “the savior of Nevermore,” a title she takes on with great reluctance. And if her visions of Enid’s (Emma Myers) impending death turn out to be true, she may be forced to play the savior yet again.

If you’ve been keeping up with America’s Got Talent Season 20, you may remember a contestant from Episode 2 (June 3) by the name of Austin Brown.
The Nashville-based singer initially auditioned with a heartfelt performance of “When a Man Loves a Woman,” which split the judges right down the middle; Sofia Vergara and Mel B both gave instant yeses, while Howie Manel (despite calling it “really, really good”) and Simon Cowell remained unconvinced. Simon said he’d like to see Austin perform something “less generic,” but he’d have to speak with a producer about potentially setting up a second audition on another day.

Ryan Murphy has an axe to grind with Netflix. The streamer has reportedly ordered a fourth season of Murphy’s Monster anthology series, this time centered around infamous (alleged) axe murderer Lizzie Borden.
The historical figure was tried and acquitted for the murders of her father and stepmother in 1892, at which point she was ostracized by her Massachusetts community. Anane’s worldview and writing are deeply informed by growing up in the two wildest places on Earth: Papua New Guinea and Las Vegas. She writes scripts about women navigating the push-pull of ambition, children, and inconvenient love. Her characters are often animated by interracial relationships. She tackles themes inspired by her experience running classrooms in prisons and public schools, running an education-based nonprofit, and running after her kids. Her goal is to be staffed on a female character-driven dramedy or comedy. She was a 2024 Moonshot TV Pilot Accelerator Fellow, a 2024 Semifinalist for the Humanitas New Voices Fellowship, and a 2024 Script Competition Finalist for the Austin Film Festival. She is a graduate of Emerson College and Columbia University. Anane is represented by Rob Golenberg.
A native of St. Petersburg, Florida, Asayesh-Brown writes character-driven dramedies, usually with a mystery or crime component. His passion for writing also extends to literary fiction and blogs about housing policy. In his youth, he developed a love for comedy after watching episodes of The King of Queens. After graduating with a Bfa in Film & TV Production from NYU in 2018, he quit his job as a line cook in Brooklyn and moved to Los Angeles. After nearly two years at 3 Arts Entertainment, he landed on the TV drama development team at NBCUniversal, where he has been since 2021. In 2023, Asayesh-Brown was named a Humanitas New Voices Fellow. He is represented by M88.
Díaz was a writer on NBC’s Lopez vs Lopez and was selected for the inaugural Latino Film Institute + Warner Bros. OneFifty Directing Fellowship. Inspired by her Eldest Daughter Syndrome, she writes irreverent, female-driven comedies. She was also a writer and producer on Netflix’s Orgasm Inc: The Story of OneTaste, and a producer on HBOMax’s Generation. As a writer, director, and producer, her work has been supported by the Sundance Episodic Lab; the FX Imaginar TV Incubator for Fearless Latinx Creators sponsored by Film Independent and Nalip; and the Women Directing Mentorship presented by Shondaland and SeriesFest. Díaz holds a Bfa in Film & TV Production from NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts and an Mfa from USC’s Peter Stark Producing Program. She is represented by 3 Arts Entertainment.
Esposito found her way to storytelling after nearly becoming a lawyer — a detour that taught her about power, performance, and why the truth sometimes makes the best fiction. After earning a B.S. in Psychology and Criminology from the University of Toronto, she worked as a courtroom reporter before pivoting to writing, earning an Mfa in Screenwriting at the American Film Institute. Her industry work credits include writer’s production assistant on two Peacock series, Ted and Apples Never Fall. She has won AFI’s Writer’s Room Ready award, was selected for 2023’s The Black List x Wif Episodic Lab, and is a Women in Film Screenwriting Fellow. Esposito is passionate about storytelling that subverts the male gaze and highlights the identities and experiences of people who have not always seen themselves in characters on-screen. She is represented by Untitled Entertainment.
Growing up in the Midwest with family ties to Hawaii, Grace‘s dramas often explore multi-racial experiences, queer identity, and feature protagonists attempting to unite people with drastically opposed values. His short films have been screened at festivals nationally, and several of his original stage plays were produced at the Hollywood Fringe Festival and Playhouse West. Grace won the Austin Film Festival’s Virtual Pitch competition with his original pilot “Hail to the Chief,” recently completed UCLA’s Program in Producing, and Ensemble Studio Theatre LA’s New West Playwrights program. He graduated from the University of Wisconsin–Madison with a B.A. in Communication–Radio, TV & Film. Grace is represented by Viewfinder Management.
Hillin is a screenwriter, journalist, and cancer survivor who went from rural California to the Ivy League. Growing up, she struggled with her identity and sense of belonging until she went to college. While at Yale, she majored in Political Science and Middle Eastern Studies with the career aspiration of becoming a spy. After being rejected by the CIA, she pivoted to journalism, covering science, politics, sex, and marijuana, breaking national stories cited in major outlets like the New York Times. Her hobby training in mixed martial arts led her to compete with the National Guard in a reality show. Much of Hillin’s work is inspired by her lived experiences. She now writes action-packed genre shows that often focus on strong women looking for their place in the world, who kick a lot of ass and sometimes hunt monsters or spy for secret organizations. She was selected for Sony Television’s Writers Program, the Universal Features Lab, and Coverfly’s Red List. Hillin is represented by Brett Etre.
Jasso is a writer from the dairy farms of central California. Her work focuses on thought-provoking, ensemble dramas that capture the beautiful mess of family, the weight of expectations, and the fight for identity. Jasso began her career in the marketing department at Universal Pictures, working on popular films like Candyman and the Halloween franchise, before transitioning into a role supporting the company’s comprehensive inclusion efforts. She has previously participated in Lena Waithe’s Hillman Grad Mentorship Lab. Jasso is represented by Color Creative.
McGhee forged his love of storytelling through long, dark winters of suburban Chicago. He writes genre-blending dramas and dramedies, populating elaborate worlds with dysfunctional ensembles, and explores lost innocence, portraying outsiders who can’t go home again. Upon graduating from Wesleyan University, McGhee began working in Los Angeles as a development assistant in features (Solstice Studios) and animation (Stoopid Buddy Stoodios), and later as a showrunner’s assistant in both drama and comedy rooms run by former writers of hit shows like Succession and Rick & Morty. McGhee is represented by Good Fear Content.
Raelyn is a D.C.-based filmmaker who crafts bold, character-driven dramas —true crime thrillers, soapy historicals, and edgy YA—that explore the collision of capitalism, class, and gender. Her protagonists are fierce outsiders on a mission to challenge the status quo. After graduating from Columbia University, she worked on Wall Street before vigorously pursuing TV writing. Raelyn founded the Writers Mafia Professional Writers’ group and is an alumna of Mara Brock Akil’s Writers’ Colony, the Black List Episodic Lab, The Writers Lab, and the Moonshot Pilot Accelerator. She was also an Austin Film Festival Finalist and the 2019 ScreenCraft Drama feature winner. Raelyn is repped by Epicenter.

While the movie business has experienced a concerning degree of commercial and critical turbulence over the first three months of 2025, television has stepped up to provide entertainment seekers an impressive array of captivating new series, as well as stellar new seasons from returning shows. "Severance" just stuck the landing at the end of its celebrated second season, "The White Lotus" is back doing its darkly comedic thing with possibly its strongest cast to date, and "The Studio" is a brilliantly brutal Hollywood satire that takes no prisoners in showing viewers how the showbiz sausage is made.
Hence, it's a very high compliment to suggest that the new Max hospital drama, "The Pitt," might be the best of the '25 bunch thus far. Created by R. Scott Gemmill, a TV writing veteran who got his start on "ER" before taking the showrunning reins on "NCIS: Los Angeles," the show is a...

We all love monsters. From Dracula and King Kong to the Wolfman and Freddy Krueger, our affection for these fictionalized beasts has been satisfied through film and television for over a century. The disconnect between the audience and the world in which these monsters exist is part of the enjoyment and escapism that horror has always sought to provide us. However, a very real evil lurks among us in the shadows and treads the same path as we do. This evil takes the form of individuals with a predatory nature who lack empathy for others. It’s an evil that we find repulsive and fascinating, and much like the fictionalized creations of Hollywood, they’ve also been incarnated on film and television.

Rod Blackhurst directed many short films and some music videos before he made his feature directorial debut with the post-apocalyptic horror film Here Alone. Since then, he has worked on Amanda Knox and John Wayne Gacy documentaries, as well as the Will Smith series Welcome to Earth, and directed the crime thriller Blood for Dust. Now, Variety reports that he’s moving ahead with a dystopian creature feature called Die by Night, and he has gathered a cast for the film that includes Isabelle Fuhrman of the Orphan franchise, Ben Hardy (Bohemian Rhapsody), and Scoot McNairy (Nightbitch).
Blackhurst is set to direct Die by Night from a screenplay he wrote himself, with Variety noting that the script is based on a prequel screenplay he wrote with J. Hunter Richardson that’s called The Chosen Few. So if Die by Night is successful, maybe we’ll see Blackhurst make the prequel The Chosen Few as well.

Michael Angarano, who plays one of the former lovers of the show’s main character, the bewitched and bothered Ruby (Stephanie Hsu), has reunited with a former Will & Grace pal. In a recent interview with MovieWeb, Angarano reflected on starring as young Elliot, Jack McFarland’s (Seam Hayes) son on the hit show, noting:

It had just such great reach and people to this day talk about that show… [they] see me on that show and that character. But seeing those actors just at their level of professionalism and creativity, and just how generous they were with each other…...
