Countdown Season 1 Episode 9 Review: 10-33
Image
Everything that happens in Countdown Season 1 Episode 9 is what we’ve been waiting for. It’s been a rough journey, but the payoff was expected to be great.

Some may ask: Why are you reviewing a show that you don’t connect with? Because after watching hundreds of shows and thousands of episodes, some shows can surprise you.

While many try to grab your attention as soon as possible, others need time to cook. I thought Countdown would be one of those shows that should be allowed their time to cook, and boy, was I wrong. It does the bare minimum, and at this point, I’m not expecting any improvements.

(Prime Video [Screenshot])

The episode picks up from the cliffhanger in Countdown Season 1 Episode 8 after Volchek stabs Blythe and runs away. Blythe fights tooth and nail to survive, and I’m so glad he does. He might be cold and uncharismatic,...

Jim Parsons Joins Heaven's Gate True Crime Biopic
Image
Actor Jim Parsons, who rose to stardom while playing Sheldon Cooper in the long-running sitcom The Big Bang Theory, has found his next role. After a Broadway run and his work as narrator in the Big Bang spinoff prequel Young Sheldon, Parsons is ready for a major change out of comedy, as the actor has been cast in The Leader, a true-crime biopic that will tell the story of the religious cult known as Heaven's Gate.

Per Deadline, Parsons has joined Tim Blake Nelson and Vera Farmiga for the project, which is currently in production. Nelson and Farmiga are set to play the cult's leaders, Marshall Applewhite and Bonnie Nettles, while Parsons' role remains under wraps. Other actors participating in the project include Grace Caroline Currey, Simon Rex, Matthew Glave, William Mapother, Geoffrey Arend, Kelly Lynn Reiter, and Molly Robbins.

Perfect Match on Netflix: Does Clayton and Rachel Share a Bitter Past?
Image
Perfect Match Season 3 is here, and let’s say it’s as dramatic as it can get. That’s right, everyone was caught off guard with Rachel Recchia’s surprise entrance – but not more than Clayton Echard. As per EW, he almost instantly said, “Oh my gosh… she’s the last person that I thought would walk in.” He then followed this with, “I’m in trouble.” And well, for a good reason.

The duo has had a complicated past that goes back to The Bachelor Season 26. Here, Echard told both Recchia and Gabby Windey that he loved them and that he’d also been intimate with each of them. Not only that, but he also revealed his lingering feelings for another participant, Susie Evans. Both ladies were blindsided and had no idea what was going on behind the scenes.

Now, their past chapter is again cracked wide open for the public,...

Tim Blake Nelson at an event for Leaves of Grass (2009)
The Leader: Jim Parsons joins Heaven’s Gate cult biopic
Tim Blake Nelson at an event for Leaves of Grass (2009)
Two years ago, we heard that Tim Blake Nelson and Vera Farmiga (The Conjuring) would be starring in The Leader, a true crime biopic about a story that shocked the world back in 1997, the mass suicide of the members of the Heaven’s Gate cult. That project has finally made it into production, and Deadline reports that Jim Parsons (The Big Bang Theory) has joined the cast. Details on the character he’ll be playing haven’t been revealed – but it’s not difficult to imagine him playing a member of the Heaven’s Gate cult.

Farmiga is playing cult leader Bonnie Nettles, a.k.a. Ti. Nelson’s character is the cult’s infamous frontman, Marshall Applewhite, a.k.a. Do. Also in the cast are Simon Rex (Red Rocket), Grace Caroline Currey (Fall), Matthew Glave (The Wedding Singer), William Mapother (In the Bedroom), Jb Yowell (A Jar Full of Christmas...

‘Countdown’ Episode 7-8 Recap: Is Nathan Dead Or Alive?
Image
In the 6th episode of Countdown, Nathan’s task force went on a bit of a wild-goose chase based on the name Mark had spotted in Mikhail’s basement: Gallagher. They assumed that Gallagher was a person, and they followed the one who was connected to Timo. Eventually, it was revealed that he had nothing to do with Volchek, and Gallagher was actually a trucking company that Volchek had just signed a contract with to move his cargo. Since Mark’s intel had led them to a dead end, it caused Keyonte to doubt his capabilities. Keyonte was promptly warned by Nathan to not throw shade on his own teammates, especially when he himself didn’t have anything to show in terms of potential clues regarding what Volchek was up to. Speaking of Volchek, he was cornered by Astapov and asked to return to Belarus, with the promise of being pardoned for all his trespasses.

Oasis founder Noel Gallagher gave Ewan McGregor his first lightsaber lesson
Noel Gallagher
I said maybe, you’re gonna be the ones who sabes me…Ewan McGregor is undoubtedly one of the best to ever wield a lightsaber in the Star Wars galaxy, much of which came from extensive pre-production training. But there also might have been a secret Jedi lending a hand: Oasis’ own Noel Gallagher.

An admittedly huge fan of Star Wars, Gallagher once told StarWars.com that he was partly responsible for giving Ewan McGregor lightsaber lessons. “So there was a party round at my house in the ‘90s and Ewan came, and he’d just got the part for Star Wars, and I was like, ‘No way!’ I happened to have two lightsabers in the house, so I said, ‘Right then, in the back garden and show us your skills.’” Gallagher would maintain that McGregor got “schooled”, thus forcing us to imagine a world where one of the dudes...

Spartacus: House of Ashur reveals major character recast (and why it happened)
Image
Starz's upcoming Spartacus: House of Ashur series will bring back some familiar faces, but there's one new actor who will actually portray a returning character.

Spartacus has consistently maintained a loyal cult following over the past 15 years. The series began in 2010 and ran three seasons with a six-episode prequel series, Gods of the Arena. It was based on the historical character of the slave-turned-gladiator who breaks free and organizes a rebellion against Rome.

Among the various characters was Ashur (Nick E. Tarabay), a former slave who, following an injury, earned his freedom. A rather slimy conniver always ready to sell out anyone to save his own skin, Ashur seemingly met his end in season 2. This new series imagines that Ashur survived, aided the Romans in putting down Spartacus' rebellion, and was rewarded with his own gladiator house.

Julius Caesar is recast in Spartacus: House of Ashur

The show comes from Steven DeKnight,...

Reputation review – front and swagger in brawling portrait of British male rage
Gallagher
A drug dealer begins to question his life choices but his bullying partner-in-crime refuses to let him go

Squint and you can picture the two leads of this film playing the Gallagher brothers circa the big Oasis bust-up of 2009 – all front and swagger, eyebrows set into aggrieved furrows. Instead, in this small-time British crime drama, James Nelson-Joyce and Kyle Rowe play old mates dealing drugs in the fictional northern town where they grew up. It’s a brawling tale about a man who feels trapped by toxic masculinity, though in the end the film too backs itself into a bit of a dead end of macho violence.

Nelson-Joyce is Wes, who has been questioning his life and choices since his best mate Tommy (Rowe) went to prison. Wes and his girlfriend Zoe (Olivia Frances Brown) have just had a baby, and there’s even talk of a job. Then Tommy is released,...

“Do we have any lovebirds in the house? Don’t worry, we don’t got any of that Coldplay snidey fucking camera shit,” Liam Gallagher asked onstage in Manchester, England. In the wake of Coldplay’s inadvertent Cheating CEO Camera, it’s a fair warning.

Cheaters might want to steer clear of Coldplay shows, but if they’re seeking a judgment-free musical refuge, Liam Gallagher says the’re welcome at the Oasis reunion tour.

Speaking in between songs during Oasis’ concert in Manchester over the weekend, Gallager remarked: “Do we have any lovebirds in the house? Don’t worry, we don’t got any of that Coldplay snidey fucking camera shit. Doesn’t matter to us who you’re fucking mingling with, or tingling with, or fingering with. It’s none of our fucking business.” Gallagher then proceeded to dedicate the band’s performance of “Slide Away” to the “lovebirds.”

Marc Maron Says Jon Stewart Doesn’t Like Him: ‘There’s No Love Here’
Image
Ever-outspoken standup, actor, talk show staple, and “Wtf with Marc Maron” host Marc Maron talked about his “nemesis” Jon Stewart on the NPR series “Wild Card with Rachel Martin.” Way back in the ’90s, Maron was one of Stewart’s successors as host of Comedy Central’s “Short Attention Span Theater,” which was canceled shortly after he took over. Maron, of course, went on to bigger and better things, as did Stewart, but Maron said that he needed a rivalry to keep going.

“I always have a nemesis… like most of that is fueled by resentment, insecurity, jealousy, or whatever,” he explained. “It’s habit and it’s the never ending sort of, you know, struggle against acting out of insecurity… or resentment, self-acceptance.”

For years, Maron continued, Stewart filled that role for Maron, since — as he recalls — “he had figured it out” when it came to being a comic.

That Spicy Oasis Doc You Heard About? No Such Thing

Readers of the British tabloids may have read recently about a sensationalistic documentary on Oasis that was supposedly flagged by a British film board for its “strong language” and footage of the band drinking and smoking. Piqued by the news, plenty of Oasis fans probably can’t wait to see it, especially in light of their well-greeted reunion shows.

The only problem is that no such documentary exists.

As the marketing director of Creation Records in the U.K. in the Nineties, Tim Abbot was a key part of the...

Countdown Season 1 Episode 6 Admits the Show Is Stalling
Image
“Drew’s dead, and here we are chasing our fucking tails, not one inch closer to finding Volcheck,” Meachum says in Countdown Season 1 Episode 6.

These words summarize everything that has been going on with Countdown, where it feels like the team is doing everything apart from finding Volchek and recovering the fissile material.

The episode is another balanced exploration of the two sides of the story as the task force clings to any minor leads they have.

Meanwhile, Volchek continues his quest to complete a mysterious plan he has been working on.

The episode begins with him signing documents with an American company, where he purchases something worth approximately $400,000.

Oasis Reunion Tour Movie Cinematographers Include ‘Poor Things’ DoP Robbie Ryan and Kenneth Branagh Collaborator Haris Zambarloukos (Exclusive)
Image
Some of the industry’s top cinematographers are getting involved in the current Oasis craze.

With the reunited band’s sellout gigs continuing across the U.K. — currently in the Gallagher brothers’ hometown of Manchester ahead of concerts in London later this month — Variety has learned that several A-list directors of photography have been behind the camera for an upcoming film about the tour.

Announced this year, the as-yet-unnamed feature is being produced by “Peaky Blinders” creator Steven Knight and directed by Dylan Southern and Will Lovelace, the duo behind the LCD Soundsystem doc/concert film “Shut Up and Play the Hits.” It’s being produced by Magna Studios, recently launched by former Pulse execs Marissa Clifford and Davud Karbassioun.

Very little else is known about the film, which is being kept under a veil of secrecy, but Variety hears that both Robbie Ryan and Haris Zambarloukos have been shooting segments of the tour.

‘Countdown’ Episode 6 Recap & Ending Explained: Who Betrayed Volchek?
Image
In the 5th episode of Countdown, Evan and Keyonte were tasked with getting any and all information on “Gallagher” (a name that Mark had seen in Mikhail’s basement); Amber and Mark searched for forensic evidence in all the places that Volchek had probably been to; and Luke looked into activity amongst Eastern European gangs. Meanwhile, Nathan followed his hunch that the Belarusian General Consul, Iosif Astapov, was in cahoots with Volchek, so much so that he orchestrated a covert mission to get into his computer system and extract all the valuable information they could get their hands on. That ended up being a huge success, and the task force not only had a relatively recent photograph of the man in the spotlight but also learned his real name: Boris Vusovich. In addition to that, they got a brief summary of how he became Volchek, which gave Nathan the impression...

Damon Albarn “Happy to Concede Defeat” in Oasis vs Blur Rivalry: “They Are the Winners”
Image
Damon Albarn has conceded the great Britpop Rivalry, declaring the newly reunited Oasis the victors over Blur. “Well, it was obvious, wasn’t it?” he told The Sun. “I think we can officially say that Oasis won the battle, the war, the campaign, everything.”

Blur famously “beat” Oasis in the early days of the Battle of Britpop when Albarn moved the release date of Blur’s “Country House” to compete with Oasis’ “Roll with It.” “Country House” edged out the Gallagher brothers on the charts, which temporarily gave Blur the crown. As Oasis’ “Live ’25” tour is proving to be a massive success, however, Albarn says he’s “happy” to abdicate the throne.

‘Countdown’ Episode 4-5 Recap: What’s Volchek’s True Identity?
Image
In the 3rd episode of Countdown, Mark reunited with a friend he made during his time at the correctional facility in Palmdale, Timur, hoping that he could give him some pointers about Volchek, the Belarusian terrorist, and his plans to trigger a nuclear event in Los Angeles. So, Mark, along with Luke and Amber, orchestrated a fake prison van escape plan to get Timur and Mark out in the open and allow Timur to lead Mark to his uncle Mikhail’s den. Mikhail wasn’t too happy about Timur’s actions, because he was rightfully worried that he had led the police to him, and while he expressed his displeasure, Mark caught a brief glimpse of Volchek as well as whatever he was planning to do to the city. Since he was caught red-handed snooping around, Volchek ordered Mikhail to kill Mark. He barely managed to survive because of an explosion set off by Volchek,...

Blur’s Damon Albarn Thinks the Oasis Reunion Is “a Good Thing,” But He’s “Too Busy” to Go
Image
Blur and Oasis, Oasis and Blur: Two Britpop titans that famously got along swimmingly — except for all the mudslinging and name calling and chart battles. As far as fussing about goes, their intra-band feud is perhaps second only to Oasis’ own inter-band feud. So, how does Blur frontman Damon Albarn feel about all of the hoopla surrounding Oasis’ long-awaited return and their recently launched “Live ’25” tour? Apparently, he saw it all coming.

“The Oasis reunion? Two years ago I was prophetic when I said that they would do it and that the road was level,” Albarn told Italian newspaper Il Messaggero. “Well, you can’t think that two brothers can’t reconcile, sooner or later. It’s a good thing, the way I see it.”

The Time Noel Gallagher Met Jerry ‘F***ing’ Seinfeld
Image
What’s weirder — that Oasis star Noel Gallagher once met Jerry Seinfeld or that he didn’t mercilessly bash the comedian when he told Rolling Stone?

Gallagher was mixing his Who Built the Moon? album back in the mid-2010s when he wrapped his studio session on a Friday. “See you Monday,” he told the engineer.

“Oh, we’re not in Monday, Tuesday.”

Gallagher wanted to know why not. The engineer said he’d been told not to come in. “Who the fuck told you not to come in?” the singer exploded. “I run the fucking record label — who told you not to come in?”

The engineer shrugged and told Gallagher to check with his office. The office also deflected, telling Gallagher to check with his wife, Sarah. In his typical professional manner, Gallagher asked, “What the fuck’s it got to do with her?”

The mystery was solved, in part,...

Oasis Launch Reunion Tour with First Concert in 16 Years: Setlist + Video
Image
The impossible has happened: Brit-pop legends Oasis played their first show together in 16 years, kicking off their reunion tour at Principality Stadium in Cardiff, UK, on Friday, July 4th.

The band took the stage at exactly 8:15 p.m. local time and delivered a two-hour set heavy on classics from their iconic first two albums, Definitely Maybe and (What’s the Story) Morning Glory?, including “Morning Glory,” “Supersonic,” “Wonderwall,” “Champagne Supernova,” and “Live Forever.” The latter song ended with a tribute to Liverpool footballer Diogo Jota, who was killed earlier this week at age 28; his photo appeared on the video screens near the end of the performance.

Oasis’ third album, 1997’s Be Here Now, was also represented with a pair of songs: “D’You Know What I Mean?” and “Stand By Me.” The band also ran through beloved non-album singles “Whatever,” “Acquiesce,” and “The Masterplan.”

Oasis’ Liam Gallagher Apologizes for Using Racial Slur: “Sorry If I Offended Anyone”
Image
Liam Gallagher has issued an apology for using a racial slur in a social media post earlier this week.

The Oasis singer took to X on Tuesday, where he wrote an apology for a since-deleted post he made Monday using a slur used to mock East Asian people, per The Independent.

“Sorry if I offended anyone with my tweet before it wasn’t intentional you know I love you all and I do not discriminate. peace and love LG x,” he wrote in the apology post.

In the X post (that is still available to view via screenshots), Gallagher used the racial slur, to which one user wrote, “liam you can’t say that.” He replied, “Why,” which was met with another user writing back, “Cuz its racist.” The singer subsequently responded by writing, “Behave.”

Gallagher’s offensive post came shortly ahead of Oasis’ long-awaited reunion tour, which will begin in Wales tomorrow.

Liam Gallagher Apologizes for Racial Slur: ‘I Do Not Discriminate’

There are certain indisputable facts in the music world. Stevie Nicks collects shawls. Bob Dylan dabbled in Christianity in the 1980s. Donald Fagen has feelings about the term “yacht rock” (hint: It’s “go fuck yourself”). And Liam Gallagher really, really loves Twitter.

A day before the Oasis reunion tour kicks off — an event fans have been feverishly waiting for for the last 15 years — Gallagher apologized for a racial slur he posted on X (formerly Twitter). It’s since been deleted, but screenshots show that he posted a word mocking East Asian people.

Marc Maron on the relief of locking the gates on Wtf
Marc Maron
After more than 15 years and 1,600 episodes later, Marc Maron announced earlier this month that he would be ending his namesake podcast. Now, he is giving more details on why he’s leaving Wtf behind.

Marc Maron has famously been extremely transparent on Wtf, be it discussing his addictions, mental health or loss of longtime partner Lynn Shelton. But with that, he found, came a lot of responsibility to his listeners who were going through similar things. As he revealed at the Tribeca Film Festival this week (via THR), “I do put a lot of it out there. And I can handle it, and I can be gracious about it. And I don’t know what it’s going to be like not to do that twice a week. And I don’t know what part of it is my own neediness or my own need to connect. But I can...

Zak Starkey Says He Turned Down Oasis’ Reunion Tour Only to Be Fired by The Who
Image
After being fired, re-hired, fired again, and told that he was “retired” by The Who, Zak Starkey has revealed that the ordeal not only ended his longtime run as the band’s drummer, but also cost him a major opportunity: playing with Oasis on their upcoming reunion shows.

In a new interview with The Telegraph, Starkey claimed he was invited to participate in Oasis’ historic reunion — bringing together Liam and Noel Gallagher for an international run of shows from July through November — but turned it down because he thought he was going to be touring with The Who this year.

Now, Starkey says that had he known he wouldn’t be continuing with The Who, he would’ve gladly joined Oasis on the road. “Of course, of course,” he answered when asked if he would’ve played with the Gallaghers. Starkey served as Oasis’ touring...

Marc Maron Has Regrets About Popularizing the Comedian-Hosted Interview Podcast
Image
Comedian Marc Maron recently announced that he will lock the gates for good this fall and wrap up his popular podcast Wtf.

Over the course of the past 16 years, the show has featured a number of memorable, surprisingly candid interviews with legends like Robin Williams, Iggy Pop and Carol Burnett, plus the occasional awkwardly combative chat with controversial comedy stars like Gallagher and Carlos Mencia.

Maron also hosted a sitting president in his cat-filled garage and became one of the few comics to air their SNL audition grievances right to Lorne Michaels’ face.

His interviews were sometimes uncomfortably honest, with the host unafraid (and even eager) to discuss his own insecurities and past shitty behavior. But the podcast's frank atmosphere allowed us to get to know guests in a setting that seemed to have far fewer guardrails than the typical celebrity interview show. But the big question is: Did Marc Maron create a monster?...

DIFF2025: Director Josh Forbes Doc Looks Back at ‘Gallagher’
Image
Chicago – The recently wrapped Dallas International Film Festival (Diff) highlighted new voices and films. “Gallagher” is a documentary about the title celebrity, a comic force of nature back in the 1970s and ‘80s. For more film information at DIFF2025, click on their film page and scroll down to Gallagher.

’Gallagher’ at DIFF2025, Directed by Josh Forbes

Rating: 4.0/5.0

The documentary chronicles the rollercoaster life of Leo Gallagher, the 1970s/80s comedy icon who back in his day needed no first name. From his infamous watermelon smashing (the “Smash-o-Matic”) to the connection he made to that generation’s humor in the era’s heyday. Discover the man behind the mallet, his life before the fame, and the secrets beyond his iconic stage antics.

My impression of Gallagher back in the day was one of bemusement … it was an odd and surreal act, against an entertainment landscape that was blander and more contrived.

Image
Oasis are set to embark on a much-anticipated reunion tour this year, but according to their co-manager Alex McKinlay, there won’t be a new Oasis album coming along with it.

The news arrived in a Music Week interview with McKinlay, who heads Ignition Management and Big Brother Recordings, Oasis’ self-started UK label. Despite Liam teasing a hypothetical Oasis album, McKinlay confirmed that the Gallagher brothers have no plans to release any new music. “This is very much the last time around, as Noel’s made clear in the press,” McKinlay said. “It’s a chance for fans who haven’t seen the band to see them, or at least for some of them to. But no, there’s no plan for any new music.”

15 Best Movies Like Fifty Shades Of Grey
Image
A best-selling smash before being adapted into a trilogy of similarly successful movies, author E.L James' "Fifty Shades of Grey" is a strong reminder that sex sells. The novels and their cinematic adaptations explored a central romance that dealt heavily in eroticism and uninhibited sexual passion. The story occasionally broached on darker themes, bordering on the thriller genre, but maintained its key narrative focus on the sensuality between its lead characters. Fortunately, for those looking for similar steamy stories or dark explorations into sexuality, there are a number of acclaimed movies to follow up the "Fifty Shades of Grey" trilogy.

Whether it's the ultimate in cinematic bad romances or neo-noir thrillers that have a decidedly erotic tinge, plenty of movies provide unflinching on-screen sensuality. To be clear, this isn't just a collection of movies that would make your parents blush but rather well-crafted films that happen to be linked by frank sexual themes.

Sleep Tourism or African Safari? Five “Experiential Travel” Tips for High-End Globe Trotters
Image
Taking a vacation used to mean lying on a beach with a book. Now it means planning a journey of personal and cultural transformation. As a result, how people select destinations, resorts and events to travel for/to has become more about motivation and inspiration than relaxation. In its 2025 Luxe Report, Virtuoso, the global network that forecasts luxury and experiential travel, identifies the key trends shaping the industry this year, including self-improvement, fueling your adventurous spirit and forging deeper connections. Outside of “reel roaming” (such as chasing experiences like those seen in shows like White Lotus), consider the following goal-specific escapes: gig-tripping (concert tourism), wellness weeks (sleep tourism), enthusiasts’ pursuits (hotels, food, art and fashion tourism) or nature exploration (safaris).

Oasis Management “Put Arrangements In Place To Prevent Liam, Noel Gallagher Warring Backstage At Gigs” – Report
Image
Oasis brothers Liam and Noel Gallagher are preparing to reunite on stage for the first time in 16 years, with fans clamouring for tickets for the UK band’s comeback tour this summer.

The previously warring brothers have both said they’ve put their differences behind them to go on the road with stadium gigs in the UK, Europe and beyond.

But it seems the maxim “Good walls make good neighbours” has not gone ignored by the band and their management, with The Sun newspaper reporting that arrangements have been put in place to keep the two brothers and their entourages separate backstage at all UK gigs.

The Sun reports that the Gallagher brothers have been given completely separate green rooms and after-party spaces, quoting a source explaining:

“Each of them had a VIP list where their friends and famous fans could buy their tickets.

“But depending on which brother you got your ticket off,...

Image
Forty-two productions are eligible for Tony Award nominations this year – the announcements come Thursday morning – making many of the categories very, very competitive. Will the movie and TV stars take over the awards just as they’ve done at the box office? I wouldn’t bet on it.

A selection of categories will be revealed live on CBS Mornings at 8:30 a.m. Et. A complete list of nominees will be available at TonyAwards.com immediately following the announcement.
