Season 4 of The Bear just dropped, and whew, Carmy might finally be learning that running a restaurant isn’t a solo sport (or a daily anxiety spiral). Sydney’s cooking up more than just potential, Ebra’s turning the takeout window into a one-man empire, and the guest stars are less “look who we booked!” and more “oh hey, that really works.”
Sure, the show’s still yelling, stressing, and moodily slicing herbs in silence, but at least it’s making progress. There’s still trauma, tension, and timers ticking, but The Bear might be inching toward a kitchen that runs on collaboration instead of Carmy’s emotional damage.
And if you’ve devoured this season like a perfectly toasted beef sandwich and still want more, more chaos, more found family, more characters barely holding it together, then congratulations, chef. These 15 TV shows are your next course. They’ve got the flavor,...

The drama behind the camera often rivals what happens on screen, especially when an actor suddenly leaves a TV show midway. Honestly, these exits felt like an unexpected cliffhanger, throwing fans off balance as they tried to adjust to a world without their favorite character. TV shows are built on consistency, and when an actor walks away, it’s like pulling a crucial thread out of a carefully woven tapestry. One minute, they’re central to the story; the next, they’re written off with a flimsy excuse or no explanation at all.
And sometimes the departure is dramatic and headline-worthy, with whispers of behind-the-scenes feuds or creative clashes. Other times, it’s more understated, with an actor quietly stepping away to pursue new opportunities or handle personal matters. Either way, their absence leaves a noticeable void, sparking fan debates and sometimes even reshaping the trajectory of the show itself.

One of the most successful soap opera series of all time, Shameless is an incredibly gritty portrayal of a dysfunctional Gallagher family navigating life on Chicago’s South side. Containing an ensemble cast, the series propelled several actors to success, yet it was Emmy Rossum who stood out the most as Fiona Gallagher. The eldest daughter of the Gallagher family, she was the heart and soul of the show.

For most viewers, the surest sign that a show's going downhill is when the main character is suddenly written off. Nobody thinks the golden era of "The Office" includes those two seasons where Michael Scott was off in Colorado, just as nobody's favorite season of "That '70s Show" is the one where Eric's off in Africa while Seth Meyers' brother swoops in to date Donna in his place. Even when a show manages to replace its lead in a surprisingly effective, fan-pleasing away — see "Community" season 5 — there's still that pervasive feeling that the show's on borrowed time and its writers are delaying the inevitable by trying to keep the party going.
In 2019, "Shameless" became another in a long list of TV shows to have its main character leave prematurely. Emmy Rossum's Fiona Gallagher, the oldest sister in the family and the one who served as the other Gallaghers' stand-in...

It's a given that the popularity and audience engagement associated with a long-running television series often hinge on the original cast. For instance, it's difficult to imagine how a show like Supernatural would have turned out if Dean Winchester had been recast halfway through. The viewers get attached to the actors playing long-term characters, and a recast decision can disrupt this connection.
However, some series like Shameless face unique challenges as they feature characters who evolve and age alongside the storyline. One prominent example from the series' perspective is the recast decision for Liam Gallagher. He was only a baby at the start of the show,...

Despite Shameless featuring an unhealthy amount of scheming, dysfunctionality, familial issues, and alcohol, the TV series remains one of fans' favorite comedy series. The Gallagher household entertained the viewers for 11 seasons, but it's safe to say that the eldest Gallagher sibling was truly what attracted the audience. In an unkind world, it was refreshing to witness a young girl sacrificing her social life to raise her brothers and sisters stuck in the worst possible situations.

While Shameless follows the Gallagher family in all their schemes and misdeeds, the show also puts a serious emphasis on the love lives of Frank's children, especially all the Fiona Gallagher boyfriends. She had a knack for making reckless and impulsive decisions, which extends to her romantic partners. In the world of Shameless, Fiona's boyfriends are often as reckless as she is. From Steve in season 1 to Ford in season 9, all of Fiona Gallagher's love interests from Shameless seem to share a few qualities.
More often than not, it's the same drive that the Gallaghers possess when it comes to making a space for themselves in their cut-throat surroundings. Some are good people with whom Fiona wouldn't mind settling down, while others are never intended to be more than a one-time fling. Some fall in the middle of Fiona's love interests like Jimmy/Steve, who was problematic but also long-term.

With all the chaos in the Gallagher household, it can be challenging to keep track of the Shameless characters' ages from the beginning to the end of the show. When the comedy-drama series debuted on Showtime in 2011, all the Gallagher kids, except for Fiona, were still minors. By the time the series wrapped up with the season 11 finale in the spring of 2021, all except Liam were adults with jobs and, in some cases, kids of their own, showing the incredible timeline of the long-running show.
The Shameless characters' ages are somewhat hard to get a concrete answer on. There's a distinct division between the younger and older Gallagher siblings, with Fiona, Lip, and Ian being in the older tier, and Debbie, Carl, and Liam in the younger. However, this apparent split does nothing to determine any actual age outside of an abstract idea of what stage of life each of them is in.

Though the series ended in 2021, Showtimes 11 seasons of Shameless remain beloved by their fans. Among the crude humor, unhealthy amount of alcohol, and general chaos of the shows many seasons, one cherished staple of Shameless is Emmy Rossums Fiona Gallagher. Acting as a mother figure for the troubled Gallagher family, Fiona added a sense of stability and warmth to the shows vulgar view of the Chicago South Side. Alongside her father, Frank (William H. Macy), Fiona acted as a protagonist for the majority of the series. Though a favorite character to many, Rossums character, unfortunately, didnt see Shameless through to the end, permanently exiting the show at the end of Season 9.

The short Jeffrey Dean Morgan Shameless appearance has confused both viewers of the show and followers of the actor, and it seems confusing how the Walking Dead star's character only appeared for a single episode. Fiona left Shameless in season 9 to start a new life away from her family, contributing half of her $100,000 investment to them. Mel's short-lived but memorable stint on Shameless left a mark on fans, showcasing Perry Mattfeld's talent as an actress. After leaving the show, Mattfeld landed lead roles in Homecoming, Carrier, and In The Dark, showcasing her range and versatility. The controversy around Mattfeld's casting as a blind character in In The Dark sparked debate, but her performance was still praised.
Before she left Shameless, Perry Mattfeld played Mel the jealous girlfriend of Jessica Szohr's Nessa. While she only appeared in seven episodes of the Showtime series, she made a mark on fans of the show. She was part of an LGBTQ+ couple with Nessa, a tenant of Fiona Gallagher in the series' eighth season. She then created several problems, with an antagonistic attitude toward Fiona. Her stay was short, but Perry Mattfeld was so memorable in Shameless as she made Mel such an incredibly satisfying character to hate.

Actor exits can ruin a TV show if not handled well, like Steve Carell leaving The Office in season 7. Characters like Fiona Gallagher in Shameless were the backbone of their shows, leading to decline after their departure. Departures like Donald Glover in Community or Angus T. Jones in Two and a Half Men caused major impacts on the shows.
Losing a beloved TV show character was always tricky, but it was even more disappointing when an actor's decision to leave ruined their respective shows. Over the years, several TV shows have lost key cast members during their runs, whether that be because the character's storyline had come to a natural conclusion or their actor decided to step away for personal reasons or to focus on other projects. These departures were generally handled with grace and creativity, although there have been some TV exits that were totally out of character, such...

Jane Levy left Shameless after season 1 to star in Suburgatory, kickstarting her successful TV and movie career. Emma Greenwell took over as Mandy Milkovich, offering a darker take on the character that propelled her arc. Mandy's recast didn't hurt the show, showcasing great decision-making given the similarity in appearance and character direction.
The original Mandy Shameless actor, Jane Levy, was recast recast after season 1, with Emma Greenwell taking over, and many viewers still wonder why — especially since the original Mandy Milkovich actress didn't do a bad job in the role by any stretch. As the acclaimed Showtime comedy-drama ended upon completion of the 11th season in 2020, with Greenwell's Mandy Milkovich having been a prominent character in the series, but the question of why the original Mandy Shameless actor left is still on the audience's mind.

Jimmy's introduction as a seemingly noble hero turned out to be hypocritical, revealing his true criminal nature as Shameless went on. Fiona's poor choice in men, including Jimmy, led to toxic relationships and ultimately, her feeling fortunate to have not ended up with him. Jimmy's manipulative tactics and emotional manipulation failed to bring Fiona and him back together, showing the struggle in their relationship.
Jimmy on Shameless was the first love interest for Fiona in the series, and their relationship was a major one for her character. First introduced as Steve, Justin Chatwin's Shameless character was a seemingly successful young man — but later revealed himself to be named Jimmy, and that he had a darker side which only made Fiona (Emmy Rossum) more intrigued. At first glance, the pair seemed to be a good match. However, Jimmy and Fiona's relationship grew to be more toxic as Shameless went on.

Actor Jeremy Allen White rose to fame by playing Philip "Lip" Gallagher on the hit Showtime series Shameless, but that wasn't the role that he was trying his best to land when he auditioned.
To promote his new film The Iron Claw, White participated in a recent interview with Variety. Recalling his time on Shameless, the actor revealed how he had originally auditioned for both Lip and the character's brother, Ian Gallagher, played by Cameron Monaghan. White noted how he "really wanted to play Ian," more intrigued by that role, and it was actually "disappointing" when he was instead offered the part of Lip. The good news is that White came to embrace his Shameless character, so it all worked out for the best.

The death of Fiona's mother planted the seeds for her departure, as she let go of her matriarchal role within the family. Fiona's autonomy and success as a business owner gave her the strength to think about a life beyond Chicago. As her siblings grew older and became adults, Fiona no longer felt the constant need to take care of them, which freed her from her familial responsibilities.
Although it was adapted from the British series of the same name, one would be hard-pressed to find a more compelling and emotionally involving American TV drama than Showtime's hit series, Shameless. While every character within the dysfunctional Gallagher family and their orbit is real and relatable as they come, the clear heart and soul of the series remains Fiona Gallagher, played brilliantly by Emmy Rossum in the first nine seasons of the show.

Frank Gallagher may be a deplorable character, but others on Shameless did far worse things. Characters like Terry Milkovich and Debbie Gallagher committed horrific acts, making Frank seem less dubious. Fiona Gallagher's actions rival Frank's in terms of callousness and cruelty, proving she is more like him than she'd admit.
While Frank Gallagher kept viewers captivated by being an often deplorable human being, many of the most hated characters in Shameless did far worse. Widely considered the worst character on Shameless, Frank did some awful things during his arc on the show. However, William H. Macy's Frank Gallagher is far from the worst character in the show, with many others — including members of his own family — making him look far less dubious by comparison.
Frank did some unforgivable things, not limited to seducing and ruining Dottie's heart transplant for money and faking cancer in Carl for monetary gain.

Among the most underrated romantic comedies ever made is Comet (2014), starring Emmy Rossum and Justin Long. Those performers got their start around the same time as one another, with Long debuting in Galaxy Quest (1999) and Rossum in Songcatcher (2000) at the turn of the century. The former film is far more famous. But Songcatcher saw great success upon release, as well. In the following year, Long starred in a horror stint called Jeepers Creepers (2001), and it was off to superstardom from there.
Meanwhile, Rossum appeared in Mystic River (2003) by Clint Eastwood, then traversed a similar trajectory. She followed up with another supporting role in The Day After Tomorrow (2004), along with the first co-starring role of her career in The Phantom of the Opera (2004). Emmy Rossum is no stranger to complex family dynamics, but The Crowded Room puts Shameless's Gallagher family to, well, shame. Rossum stars as Candy in the new AppleTV+ show that features Tom Holland in the starring role of Danny Sullivan. As Danny's mother, Candy is clued into her son's struggles, but that doesn't help her in preventing him from potentially committing a terrible crime, one that will force him to look at his past with clarity he has not yet experienced.

Written and executive produced by Akiva Goldsman, The Crowded Room is an anthology series that will explore inspirational stories of those who have struggled with mental illness and learned to live successfully with it. The 10-episode first season is based in part on Goldsman’s own life and inspired by Daniel Keyes’ biography The Minds of Billy Milligan.
Holland, who also executive produces alongside Goldman, plays the lead, Danny Sullivan, loosely based on Milligan, who was the first person acquitted of a crime because of multiple-personality disorder, now known as dissociative identity disorder.
Rossum, who is less than 9 years 8.5 months older than Holland, will play Candy, Danny’s mother. Through their struggles in life, she dreams of salvation in the form of someone else.

While there had been plans for Rossum - who originally left the show after season nine - to return, scheduling conflicts due to Covid-19 ultimately proved too difficult to overcome.
