The official logline for the untitled series reads: "An FBI agent uses the secrets from a female serial killer’s past to try and find her.” Rossum will reportedly portray the FBI agent if an agreement is reached to star in the series. In addition to serving as executive producer, Meriweather will also serve as writer on the series.

Hulu has greenlit a drama series from Liz Meriwether with Emmy Rossum set to executive produce and also potentially star.

The untitled series is loosely inspired by the 1987 movie “Black Widow.” Per the official logline, “An FBI agent uses the secrets from a female serial killer’s past to try and find her.” According to sources, should Rossum close her deal to star in the series, she would play the FBI agent.

Meriwether serves as writer and executive producer. Rossum will executive producer under her Composition 8 banner along with Sara Moskowitz. Ron Bass, who wrote the screenplay for “Black Widow,” is also an executive producer. 20th Television and Searchlight TV will produce.

In “Black Widow,” federal agent Alexandra Barnes (played by Debra Winger) tracks a serial killer (played by Theresa Russell) across the country as she marries and then murders wealthy men. It was distributed by 20th Century Fox and directed by Bob Rafelson.

Exclusive: Jessica Szohr, who stars in Seth MacFarlane’s Hulu drama The Orville, has signed with Buchwald. She was previously with ICM.

Szohr recently completed Season 3 of The Orville where she portrays Lieutenant Commander Talla Keyali.

She is most notably recognized for playing Vanessa Abrams on Gossip Girl for four seasons. The success of the show led her to create her podcast Xoxo, which takes a deep dive into the cultural phenomenon of Gossip Girl and features interviews with cast and crew, as well as moguls in music, fashion and entertainment.

Additionally, Szohr played a pivotal role in Seasons 8 and 9 of Showtime’s Shameless as the intelligent, strong lesbian Nessa Chabon, who befriends Emmy Rossum’s character Fiona Gallagher. Prior to that, she portrayed Renee in David Lynch’s Twin Peaks for Showtime, Gretchen Polk in USA Network’s Complications, and Laura Melvin in the DirecTV series Kingdom.

Emmy Rossum has been tapped as a lead opposite Tom Holland and Amanda Seyfried in The Crowded Room, Apple’s seasonal anthology series from New Regency.

Written and executive produced by Akiva Goldsman, The Crowded Room is an anthology series that will explore inspirational stories of those who have struggled with mental illness and learned to live successfully with it. The 10-episode first season is based in part on Goldsman’s own life and inspired by Daniel Keyes’ biography The Minds of Billy Milligan.

Holland, who also executive produces alongside Goldman, plays the lead, Danny Sullivan, loosely based on Milligan, who was the first person acquitted of a crime because of multiple-personality disorder, now known as dissociative identity disorder.

Rossum, who is less than 9 years 8.5 months older than Holland, will play Candy, Danny’s mother. Through their struggles in life, she dreams of salvation in the form of someone else.
