Shameless Season 11 Episode 5 Review: Slaughter
William H. Macy, Steve Howey, Cameron Monaghan, Shanola Hampton, Jeremy Allen White, Ethan Cutkosky, and Emma Kenney in Shameless (2011)
This Shameless review contains spoilers.

Shameless Season 11 Episode 5

“One again it’s up to Frank Gallagher to save the neighborhood.”

At several points season 11 of Shameless has reminded me of Weeds’s messy final year. This is not a positive comparison, but Shameless’s “Slaughter” creates several parallels between these Showtime series and the dissolution of their central families. Weeds doesn’t end on a perfect note, but its finale at least attempts something deeply ambitious. Shameless is headed down similar territory with its characters, but it’s not a show that’s ever stylistically rocked the boat. This has led to a final season that has largely felt aimless, which is true to life sometimes, especially when the majority of a series’ characters are caught in ruts.

This can be an exciting way to explore character development and push individuals forward when it happens early on or in the...

Most TV anti-heroes are often strong, alpha types that make even the most righteous of viewers drool with admiration. However, Frank Gallagher is quite the opposite. It's hard to find something to admire about the man. But despite him being despicable, he manages to remain a draw.

We don't have to worry about Shameless being cancelled by Showtime this time around. The cable channel already announced that the series would be ending back when it was renewed for an 11th season. Could the show be revived for season 12 someday, ala the upcoming Dexter revival? Stay tuned.

Airing on Sunday nights, Shameless stars William H. Macy, Jeremy Allen White, Ethan Cutkosky, Shanola Hampton, Steve Howey, Emma Kenney, Cameron Monaghan, Christian Isaiah, Noel Fisher, and Kate Miner. The show follows alcoholic father Frank Gallagher (Macy) and his resilient, self-reliant kids who scramble to survive. The Top 15 Most Shameless Moments
Image
If you missed Shameless last year, there is no reason to worry. A cast member or two will be ready at the top of Dec. 6’s premiere to curse you for being the spoiled suburban princess that you are.

But as enjoyable as every season of irrepressible Gallagher behavior can be, there’s little denying that each year features something so Shameless that it dwarfs the rest of the bad behavior that came before it. These are moments that are so crass in their unapologetic depravity that they transcend being more broken furniture on the South Side, and instead become a true work of Gallagher (or Milkovich) art. There are quite a few of these Gallagher-ups, but we’ve boiled it down to the 15 essentials ahead of the final season.

15. The Time When Karen Jackson Finally Became “Daddy’s Girl”….

Karen is a very difficult character to like. While undoubtedly sympathetic...

"Shameless" - The Final Season
The episodic comedy TV series "Shameless", adapting creator Paul Abbott's Brit sitcom, stars William H. Macy and Emmy Rossum, premiering its eleventh and final season December 6, 2020 on Showtime:

"...'Frank Gallagher' is a useless, alcoholic single father of six.

"He spends his days drunk or in search of misadventures...

"...and his children learn to take care of themselves.

"Now it’s last call for The Gallaghers and you’re invited to the party to end all parties. After a decade of dysfunction, the South Side’s favorite clan is going out with the biggest bang ever.

"It’s going to be a wild last ride, but changes are coming that will force each of them to either step up or hit the road.

"And while devolving may come more naturally than evolving in a family where excess never gets old, they know one thing for certain – Gallaghers may grow up,...

Other hot topics in the trailer above include V and Kev differing on how to embrace the legalized-weed economy, and “Gallovich” needing to arrive at a “mutual understanding” of how their nascent marriage will work.

All good things must come to an end. All debauched things too. Which may explain how we’re here, staring at the Great Beyond for the Gallagher Brood of Shameless. Aye, two seasons after Emmy Rossum left the series as one of its ostensible lead characters, Fiona Gallagher, the series itself is resuming production and winding down in the age of Covid. That doesn’t mean it won’t go out swinging and drinking though!

The eleventh and final season of Shameless begins on Dec. 4, 2020. Don’t pretend like you will have somewhere better to be!

Shameless Season 11 Cast

Showtime's Shameless is an absolutely outstanding comedy-drama and although the writers took the inspiration from UK TV show of the same name, the US version is just as good. William H. Macy as Frank Gallagher steals the show, but the other characters are entertaining to watch, which makes the show easily binge-able.

Shameless: The 10 Worst Things Frank Gallagher Has Done

Frank Gallagher has taken the anti-hero concept to a whole new level. The star of Shameless has just done so many selfish, objectively-bad things that it is a minor miracle someone hasn't just finished him off. And yet, he trudges on, like a mushroom that survives no matter what the conditions are.

Frank Gallagher does not discriminate when it comes to his wrongdoings either. It is one thing to be evil towards the ones who threaten your family or loved ones. He might redeem himself on a few occasions, but the 10 worst things Frank Gallagher has ever done are a master class on how to be a bad human being.

Frank Gallagher from Shameless might just be the worst father in television history, certainly the drunkest. Within ten seasons, he’s done some pretty abhorrent and disgusting things, generally for his own selfish gain. The ones that end usually suffering the most, though, are his own children.

That being said, he’s fallen victim to their actions at times. To be fair, most of the things that happen to Frank at the hands of his kids are almost always justified. Here are just a few of the terrible things Frank has done to kids, as well as the worst things they did him in Shameless.

Shameless Season 10 Episode 12 Review: Gallavich!
For a show I wrote off during the first few episodes of the season, Shameless Season 10 Episode 12 managed to course correct the series in a way I didn't think possible.

It was all thanks to Ian and Mickey's wedding. If you watch Shameless online, you know nothing brings the Gallaghers together like a wedding, and it was perfect.

Ian and Mickey's relationship will forever be a big part of the show's DNA, and part of its success is in the way the couple has been written.

There have been needless hurdles thrown at for them in the latter years, but the wedding was as perfect as they could have hoped for given the circumstances.

Mickey's homophobic father being out to ruin the day was no surprise -- Mickey comes from a long line of men who married men, but none of them were romantically involved.

Those pairings have happened so...

“There’s no room for sentiment in business.”

This season of Shameless has jumped all over the place in terms of its storytelling. It’s now at the half-way point and while there have been definite growing pains for these characters, one of the common denominators this year is that the need for money is making these people do crazy things. This has been a sliding scale of craziness so far, but that’s now been pushed to an extreme place. I was nearly expecting Frank Gallagher to pop out of a closing iris at the end of the episode and declare, “Th-Th-Th-That’s all folks!”

Shameless has been playing with some rather broad storylines this season, but...

Shameless Season 10 Episode 5

“When money’s involved a Gallagher’s got nothing but time.”

Shameless season 10 has been a curious year that’s been full of changes, but as it nearly approaches its halfway point, “Sparky” feels like a particularly transitory episode. A number of new arcs begin in this entry and the second chapters of these characters’ seasonal stories begin to unfold.

This episode introduces plenty of new opportunities and problems for the Gallaghers, but through all of these changes the family remain largely cheerful and in check. Perhaps it’s the stabilizing return of familiar faces that have been out of the picture for a while, but in spite of all of the drama, “Sparky” depicts the...

‘Brassic’: How A Tip-Off From Dominic West Turned Into Sky’s Biggest Comedy Launch In Seven Years – Mipcom
When the creators reflect on the early success of Brassic, a frenetic British comedy that lit up the schedules of Sky, their minds turn to the man who started it all: actor Dominic West.

David Livingstone, the founder of Brassic producer Calamity Films, was making British indie film Pride when West approached him with an idea. During their time on set, West was dazzled by the wild stories of his co-star Joe Gilgun’s misadventures, and told Livingstone that he should consider bringing them to the screen.

“Dominic West called me over and said, ‘You should listen to these stories. Joe is the funniest person I’ve ever met, you should make it into a TV show,'” Livingstone recalls. “I said, ‘I’ve never made a TV show, but I’ll make it if you’ll be in it.'”

West, who starred in The Wire and the BBC...

The Gallaghers Are Back! Watch the New Trailer For Season 10 of Shameless
The sh*tshow must go on! In the trailer for season 10 of Shameless, we see the Gallagher family functioning without Emmy Rossum's Fiona for the first time ever. Despite the family matriarch leaving the South Side of Chicago in the season nine finale, there's absolutely no lack of drama for Frank Gallagher's offspring.

Debbie has assumed the role of head of household, and it looks like she's filled her closet up with designer fashion, presumably with the money Fiona left her. Lip struggles with the duties of fatherhood, and Carl might have his own little Gallagher on the way. Cameron Monaghan and Noel Fisher return to the series as Ian Gallagher and Mickey Milkovich - aka Gallavich - as they navigate their complicated relationship in different, closer quarters in prison. As always, Frank's debauchery is at the center of it all.

We can't wait for all the family...

22 Worst Dads in Film and TV, From Homer Simpson to Darth Vader (Photos)
Julie Kavner, Nancy Cartwright, Dan Castellaneta, and Yeardley Smith in The Simpsons (1989)
Worst dads on tv and film

Homer Simpson, “The Simpsons”

Homer Simpson is TV’s most famous dad but not exactly a role model. He may be good at heart but some of his favorite past times include drinking, laying on the couch, and strangling his son Bart whenever he gets out of line.

Daniel Plaineview, “There Will Be Blood”

Daniel Plainview (Daniel Day-Lewis) says it straight out, “he’s an oilman”; he puts family second behind his own greed. That becomes abundantly clear as his relationship deteriorates with his adopted son throughout the movie.

Al Bundy, “Married With Children”

Ed O’Neill was a very different kind of family man on “Married With Children” than he is now on “Modern Family.” Al’s cynical outlook on life has a hard time not having an effect on his kids.

Frank Gallagher, “Shameless“

Frank Gallagher (William H. Macy) is a drunk,...

Shameless: 9 Character Exits That Hurt The Show (And 10 Fans Want Back)
Over the past nine seasons of Showtime's hit comedy-drama series Shameless, viewers have met and had to say goodbye to a very wide variety of dynamic characters from Chicago's South Side. Countless love interests, friends, and close acquaintances of Frank Gallagher and his children have come and gone, and while some of these character exits were welcomed or at least accepted by fans, a few memorable individuals definitely hurt the show when they were written off of it.

There are a variety of reasons why beloved characters may have disappeared from Shameless. Fiona and Ian's departures in the series' ninth season were likely due to Emmy Rossum and Cameron Monaghan's desire to pursue other projects after starring in over 100 episodes. They'll undoubtedly be missed, but the show's writers can't be blamed for coming up with an ending to the two fan-favorite Gallaghers' stories. Some other important characters were...

Shameless: 20 Things Wrong With Frank Fans Choose To Ignore
Over the past nine seasons of Showtime's hit series Shameless, fans have watched as the Gallagher children tried to deal with the many difficulties of life in the South Side without any real help from their derelict single father. Frank Gallagher always chose to spend more time at the bar than raising his kids, so the bulk of the child-rearing responsibility was placed upon his daughter Fiona. Frank's twisted moral code and gift for using others to get what he wants has made him a terrible role model and father, but it's also somehow made him one of the most likable and entertaining characters on television.

Shameless viewers are often quick to criticize characters like Fiona and Ian for their poor relationship and life choices, but since Frank does questionable things every episode of the series, the show's audience has always been quick to accept and ignore his most glaring failings.

Shameless: Season Nine Ratings
For a while last year, it looked like the Shameless TV show might be cancelled by Showtime. Eventually though, Emmy Rossum's contract was resolved to everyone's satisfaction. Although there was no such agita ahead of the ninth season, Rossum has announced this will be her final turn as fierce Fiona Gallagher. Does this mean the whole clan will pack it in, too? Last fall, William H. Macy indicated the end may well be nigh. Will Shameless be cancelled or renewed for season 10? If it is renewed, will it end there? Stay tuned. **Status update below.

Shameless: 10 Storylines That Hurt The Show (And 10 That Saved It)
Over the past nine seasons, fans of Showtime's hit comedy series Shameless have watched as the dysfunctional Gallagher family and their loved ones tried to make ends meet and find happiness in Chicago's South Side. Family patriarch Frank Gallagher spent more time drinking his problems away in bars and trying to con his way into a better life than acting like a father to his six children, forcing Fiona, Lip, Ian, Debbie, Carl and Liam to fend for themselves and causing them to get into all sorts of trouble in the process.

While most viewers can't really relate to the chaos and drama of the Gallagher household, fans have enjoyed seeing the series' dynamic characters attempt to figure out how to navigate through a world in which all the cards seem to be stacked against them. The majority of the shenanigans the Gallaghers and their friends have gotten into...

William H. Macy, Steve Howey, Cameron Monaghan, Shanola Hampton, Jeremy Allen White, Ethan Cutkosky, and Emma Kenney in Shameless (2011)
The Shameless Cast Has Completely Changed Over the Course of 9 Seasons
William H. Macy, Steve Howey, Cameron Monaghan, Shanola Hampton, Jeremy Allen White, Ethan Cutkosky, and Emma Kenney in Shameless (2011)
It's hard to believe that the show about our favorite dysfunctional family just went into its ninth season. For nearly a decade, we've tuned in to Shameless to watch the Gallaghers attempt to navigate their controversial schemes and unfathomable debacles. We've seen the craziest plot lines, from Frank Gallagher attempting to seduce his own daughter to Liam's kidnapping. It's safe to say the show is a nonstop shock fest, and we expect season nine will feature no shortage of unimaginable drama and cringeworthy twists.

Through the years, we've watched Lip Gallagher and Kevin Ball glow up into two sexy studs, but the entire cast has truly undergone a complete transformation. While we continue to enjoy the season nine antics, we're looking back on the cast through the years, and you won't believe the changes. Keep reading for the side-by-side comparisons.

Inside the Love Lives of Shameless Stars
Who's Shamelessly in love? The family and love lives of the characters on Showtime's hit series Shameless may be dysfunctional onscreen, but in real life, many of the cast are pretty functional: Happily married, dating and parents to adorable kids—or expecting! For example, Emmy Rossum, who is set to soon leave her role as Fiona Gallagher (sniff!), has been married to Mr. Robot creator Sam Esmail since 2017. Several of her Shameless co-stars, including William H. Macy and Jeremy Allen White, attended their wedding. Macy, who plays patriarch Frank Gallagher on the show, has himself been married to actress Felicity Huffman for...

Shameless Season 9 Episode 4 Review: Do Right, Vote White!
Shameless goes to the polls tonight, and the results are perhaps not what you expect!

This Shameless review contains spoilers.

Shameless Season 9 Episode 4

So Shameless got political tonight. Or at least more so than usual, as the congressional election for Chicago’s Southside was apparently held in roughly late May/early June (the school year still isn’t over), and Mo White went back to Congress and back to being the creepy pervert. This is America.

It’s a bleak message, but fitting for the show and perhaps fitting for our times as Mo White’s ascension is meant to parallel beat by beat Donald Trump’s surprise electoral college victory. And given the last week and likely destiny of our Supreme Court, the success of predatory white aggrievement seems inescapable. But why revel in the pessimism? Most of “Do Right, Vote White!” was a darkly hilarious affair, so let...

Shameless Season 9 Episode 3 Review: Weirdo Gallagher Vortex
Shameless gets political in the most shameless of ways. So in other words, it is befitting of our times!

This Shameless review contains spoilers.

Shameless Season 9 Episode 3

Last week, we considered just exactly what kind of patrons the Alibi has when, despite being on the South Side, there is apparently not one non-white person present on V’s day off—or even after knowing Frank Gallagher for decades they’d still put bread in his jar and actually believe they were funding a real political campaign. It would seem the Shameless writers embraced this paradox head on in the “Weirdo Gallagher Vortex,” suggesting the Gallaghers aren’t the only weird ones on the series’ version of Chi-town’s inner-city.

Tonight it makes more sense that the Alibi’s clientele would unanimously chant “Mo White” (and not be referring the pedophilic politician’s name either) when we discover the Alibi is...

William H. Macy and Felicity Huffman Make Me Want to Be Adopted, and I'm a Freakin' Adult
William H. Macy at an event for Shameless (2011)
(To my real parents, I apologize in advance.) William H. Macy and Felicity Huffman have been working the red carpet on each other's arms for over 20 years, but during Monday night's Emmys, they had me Googling adoption legality for a 26-year-old. The longtime lovers posed for photos before the highly anticipated award show, looking exceptionally dapper in matching black suits. William and Felicity leaned on each other, giving the Men in Black a run for their money.

William is nominated for outstanding lead actor in a comedy series for his role as a much less dapper Frank Gallagher in Shameless. Read on to see William and Felicity's swoon-worthy photos from the Emmys, and prepare for some seriously cool poses from our award season mom and dad.

Frank gets political, sending Shameless stumbling through an ideological minefield
Frank Gallagher is, at his core, ideologically opportunistic. He will be whatever he needs to be in order to get ahead, shifting his beliefs in whichever direction is necessary to scam a place to stay or scratch together a few bucks. We’re meant to find this kind of behavior abhorrent, I think, but at the same time …...
