Buffalo 8 Distribution has picked up U.S. rights to The Fall, a romantic drama from writer/director Shaun Hart (Del Playa).

Jocelyn Hudon stars in the feature as Lacey Huxley, a 30-year-old woman living with her grandparents in the small town of El Castillo, California, who gets a chance at love when she meets a ruggedly handsome Australian (Thomas Cocquerel) with a heart of gold. But their budding relationship is complicated by the return of Lacey’s ex-boyfriend, played by Jeremy Sumpter, and his southern belle fiancé (Cassandra Scerbo) who move to town and trigger memories and longings, from the past.

Austin-based Lunar Door produced The Fall in participation with Snakebyte Productions.

Buffalo 8, the distribution arm of producer/financier BondIt Media Capital, picked up the film ahead of the AFM, where world sales group Iuvit media sales will be pitching it to international buyers. Luvit’s AFM sales slate also...

Drive-In Dust Offs: Rituals (1977)
Image
If you were being pursued by a wily killer in the woods, could you survive? Don’t look for me alive, that’s for certain; at the first sign of trouble I would be tangled up in a bush, or drown in five inches of water. Let’s not even start on the deadly wildlife, chopping wood, making a fire, or the inconvenience of being slain on holidays. That last point is a bit of a sticky one for the protagonists of Rituals (1977), a Canadian spin on Deliverance that would probably pair better with Jeff Lieberman’s Just Before Dawn (1981). And if you’ve seen that intense shocker, you’ll know you’re in good company.

Released in Canada in July, a full year before the States, Rituals received some good notices but performed poorly with audiences, and was quickly forgotten. But time has a path to redemption, especially for films that deserve that reappreciation.

Trailer for Road Trip Indie 'She's in Portland' Discussing Life's Choices
Jeremy Alter, Tommy Dewey, Minka Kelly, Marc Carlini, and François Arnaud in She's in Portland (2020)
"She made me feel hope... I wanted every day to feel like that." Freestyle Dm has released an official trailer for a indie road trip dramedy titled She's in Portland, from filmmaker Marc Carlini. This first premiered at the Santa Barbara Film Festival earlier this year, and it also played at the Sedona, Sonoma, and Phoenix Film Festivals. She's in Portland follows two men who seemingly admire each other's lives and feel trapped in their own. Wes, tied to his demanding corporate career and his responsibilities to his growing family, extends a work trip to drag his dispirited artist friend Luke up the California Coast to find Luke's "one that got away". Through their travels and conversations, the trip takes a deeper look into life choices, acceptance, and commitment. The film stars Tommy Dewey and Ricco Ross, with Minka Kelly, Vishesh Chachra, Alexis Krause, Robin Gammell, Elaine Partnow, and François Arnaud.

Guilty by Suspicion
Movies about the blacklist aren’t common, probably because as Robert Vaughn wrote, the period produced no happy stories, ‘Only Victims.’ Robert de Niro, Annette Bening and George Wendt give a bite of immediacy to the way the blacklist upset careers and blighted lives. Few of us would like to be publicly branded an Enemy of the People, but doing so seems to be America’s number one spectator sport.

Greg Strause
Exclusive: Colin and Greg Strause Talk Skyline
Greg Strause
Directors Colin and Greg Strause discuss the speedy production process of Skyline, filming in L.A., a Skyline sequel, War of the Ages and much more.

Brothers Colin Strause and Greg Strause have certainly forged an interesting path through Hollywood. After moving to Los Angeles from Chicago in 1995, they cut their teeth doing visual effects for The X-Files before moving up the ranks to features such as The Nutty Professor and Titanic. Although they are still highly in demand for their visual effects work through their company Hydraulx, the brothers have branched out into directing with the 2007 adventure Aliens Vs. Predator - Requiem.

Colin Strause and Greg Strause's second directorial effort, Skyline, is a bit of a departure for the brothers, although not in terms of the scope and masterful special effects. They shot the feature on a shoestring production budget with their own equipment, bypassing the studio system...

Rituals, starring Hal Holbrook, finally coming to DVD?
For years fans have been hoping that Rituals - starring Hal Holbrook (Into the Wild), Robin Gammell (Lipstick) and Lawrence Dane (Scanners) - would finally arrive to DVD. Hope was risen when Code Red teased about a release for years! ....Well it looks like some good news is finally in sight for fans of this little known horror chiller from the 80's.

According to the Navarre Distribution Services website, Rituals will be arriving to DVD on April 5, 2011! However, you better get your copy quick. Anyone remember Final Exam or Savage Streets with Linda Blair. Those films were released by Navarre for Code Red Entertainment. However, those films became quickly discontinued and the value at times on these films shot up to $100! So if you are intent on getting a copy for your collection, you better do so soon after the film's initial release, unless you're willing to fork over that...
