MGM Resorts Selling The Mirage In Las Vegas For $1.08 Billion
Image
A volcanic change is coming to the Strip.

MGM Resorts International said Monday that it will sell the operations of the Mirage hotel and casino in Las Vegas — home of the 90-foot erupting volcano — to Hard Rock International for roughly $1.08 billion. The all-cash deal is expected to close later next year.

MGM Resorts acquired the Polynesian-themed property in 2000, when it bought Steve Wynn’s Mirage Resorts for some $4.4 billion. Opened in 1989, the 3,044-room was the first new resort on the Las Vegas Strip in 16 years. The Mirage’s legacy includes housing Sin City’s first Siegfried & Roy show, hosting headliner Danny Gans for nearly a decade and staging Cirque du Soleil show The Beatles Love since 2006.

The Hard Rock Hotel in Vegas closed for renovations early last and is being rebranded as Virgin Hotels Las Vegas. MGM Resorts International is leasing the Mirage name and brand royalty-free to Hard Rock...

Party Favors: Call It Hof Vegas
Pahrump - Call it Hof Vegas. Dennis Hof of HBO’s Cathouse no longer wants me to warn readers that his Bunny Ranch empire is in only Reno and not Las Vegas. He’s bringing his style of adult fun to the outskirts of Sin City. He called up the hotline from the middle of Crystal, Nevada to spread the news. The sounds of hammering and drills came from his end of the phone.

“We’re moving around here and getting some things done,” Dennis Hof said. “I bought two 35 year old rundown, rat trap brothels. What you’re buying is the licenses.”

The two old names were Cherry Patch Ranch and Mabel’s Whore House. The new places are Love Ranch and Dennis Hof’s Cathouse. “Those are name that are synonymous with good times.”

There are no good times for the former owner. He got arrested for bribing a county official.

The Sorcerer's Apprentice Magic (the Gathering) Trick
There are nerds and then there are card-carrying nerds. This second group might be fans of Magic: The Gathering, the collectable card sensation that swept the student center sophomore year. Mtg fans better hold on to their constructed decks, though, because they are about to see some of their biggest exposure yet.

The Nicolas Cage picture The Sorcerer’s Apprentice presents a world where good and evil magicians can extend their struggle over centuries. One of the baddies is played by British actor Toby Kebbell whose character Drake Stone is something of a knucklehead who thinks he’s a rock star.

When Alfred Molina, who is a time-spanning baddie who cares, dammit, meets Drake he is appalled by his gaudy offices and entourage. His walls are festooned with Danny Gans-esque placards for Vegas appearances and, largest of all, a lobby-sized cutout of Drake that says . . . Magic: The Gathering?

Gans Died of Reaction to Painkiller
The 52-year-old entertainer's death was not an issue of drug abuse.

By Lucas Shaw

More than a month after Las Vegas entertainer Danny Gans was found dead in his Las Vegas home, Clark County coroner Mike Murphy has ruled that the death was accidental.

Gans, who was 52, died in his sleep May 1.

His death was the result of a toxic reaction to painkillers intensified by preexisting medical conditions, Murphy said. He cited Gans’ high blood pressure and a disorder that caused him to produce extra red blood cells as significant factors.

Gans did have toxic levels of hydromorphone, an opiate, in his blood, but...

Gans Autopsy 'Inconclusive'
An autopsy into the death of renowned Las Vegas entertainer Danny Gans has been deemed "inconclusive".

The singer/comedian's wife Julie found the star struggling to breathe in their Sin City home on 1 May and he was dead by the time paramedics arrived.

The cause of death has yet to be determined, and further toxicology tests are required after results of the initial autopsy failed to pinpoint the problem, a family member tells RadarOnline.com.

However, reports suggest Gans, 52, suffered from longterm medical issues which could have contributed to his passing.

Another source tells the website, "Danny had high blood pressure along with a history of heart disease in his family."

The Las Vegas coroner's office has declined to comment on the reports.

A private memorial service is due to be held on 21 May to honour the late star.

Danny Gans' Manager: 'Everything Seemed Fine'
Danny Gans' manager, Chip Lightman, offers his impressions of the late entertainer's health in the hours preceding Gans' death. Lightman tells the Las Vegas Review-Journal that he traded texts with Gans on Thursday, hours before famed impressionist passed away. "Everything seemed fine," says Lightman. "The only difference was, on his day off, he would usually run errands and stuff, and he was exhausted. He hadn't slept well the night before. He laid down in the late afternoon." Lightman tells the newspaper that later, in the middle of the night, Gans' wife awoke and "didn’t feel him breathing." The paper says paramedics tried, unsuccessfully, to revive the 52-year-old Las Vegas legend.

Vegas Legend Gans Dead At 52
Legendary American entertainer Danny Gans has died at his Las Vegas home.

The singer and comedian's wife found the star struggling to breathe in the early hours of Friday and called in the emergency services. But Gans was dead by the time paramedics arrived, reports TMZ.com. He was 52.

The self-styled "musical impressionist" moved to the Las Vegas Strip in 1996 and became one of the gambling mecca's most popular performers.

Establishing himself as The Man of Many Voices, Gans was a Sin City staple, holding residencies at the Rio Hotel and The Mirage, where he signed a $150 million (£103 million) deal in 2000. He had the Danny Gans Theatre built in his name, but switched venues again earlier this year, moving to Steve Wynn's Encore hotel, where he debuted his new show in February.

He enjoyed huge success throughout his career and was named Las Vegas Entertainer of the Year a record-breaking 11 times in a row.

Leading the tributes to Gans, casino and hotel mogul Wynn says, "My wife and I and all of us in the company are devastated at the loss of our brilliant, talented and loving friend.

"One of the most unique human beings and entertainers in the world has been taken from us in an unexpected moment. A profoundly tragic event that leaves us all sad and speechless.

"The loss of Danny to his wife Julie (and) his children Amy, Andrew and Emily is at this moment impossible to comprehend. We will all try to go on with our lives without our dear friend. At this moment it seems almost impossible."...
