The hit '90s sitcom "Seinfeld" was ostensibly about a fictionalized version of comedian Jerry Seinfeld (played by himself), but in reality, it was about one of the most deeply dysfunctional friend groups in television history. It’s hard to imagine Seinfeld without Elaine Benes, as played by the great Julia Louis-Dreyfus. Jerry Seinfeld has released The Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee Book, a tie-in with his coffee-and-car-based talk show of the same name. It’s the perfect time for the legendary comedian to bring out a new book, because in the year since his iconic, hugely influential self-titled sitcom arrived on Netflix, there’s been a resurgence in Seinfeld fandom.

The winners of the 11th Annual Indie Series Awards were revealed on Thursday, June 18 in a virtual ceremony hosted by Sean Kanan. The ISAs celebrate the best in independently produced scripted entertainment created for the Web.

Top honors went to After Forever and Indoor Boys, named best drama and best comedy series of the year.

Drama series acting honors went to Sean Kanan (Studio City), Chauntae Pink (Poz Roz), Derrell Whitt (A Place Called Hollywood), Patrika Darbo (Studio City) Carolyn Hennesy (Studio City), A Martinez (The Bay) and Meg Foster (A Place Called Hollywood).

Comedy winners included Alex Wyse (Indoor Boys), Lee Garlington (Before We Go), Wesley Taylor (Indoor Boys), Carolee Carmello (Indoor Boys), Frankie Grande (Indoor Boys) and Jonée B Shady (Poor Us).

Food Network is teaming up with its sister streaming service Discovery+ to get into the holiday TV movie business with the cable channel’s first-ever scripted film, “Candy Coated Christmas.”

Though the movie, which features “The Pioneer Woman” star Ree Drummond in her first ever acting role, is a Food Network production, it will not air on the cable channel, instead being available only to Discovery+ subscribers when it debuts in November.

Discovery Plus and Food Network are staking their claim to the holiday movie business.

Food Network has completed production on its first-ever scripted movie, “Candy Coated Christmas,” which won’t air on the linear cable channel but rather on Discovery Plus. The feel-good holiday movie features Ree Drummond, host of the cabler’s long-running “The Pioneer Woman.”

“Candy Coated Christmas” will mark the first original scripted movie to air on Discovery Plus. Discovery and Food Network aim to grab a slice of the holiday movie audience that has proven to be so lucrative for Hallmark Channel, Freeform, Discovery’s OWN and other cablers. Food Network and its sibling channels under the Discovery umbrella such as HGTV and Investigation Discovery already attract large female audiences, which is a good fit with the holiday movie demo.

The 11th Annual Indie Series Awards nominations in 28 categories were revealed on Wednesday via Twitter. The ISAs celebrate the best in independently produced entertainment created for the Web.

Indoor Boys led all series with 15 total nominations. The show is joined in the Best Comedy Series category by Before We Go, FabUless, F#Cking 40, La règle de (3), The Ninth, Poor Us and Three Year Letterman.

Poz Roz and Studio City earned 12 nominations apiece to lead the dramas. They are joined in the Best Drama Series field by After Forever, The Bay, Bronx Siu, People Like Us, A Place Called Hollywood and Save Me.

In all, there are 33 nominated series from around the globe. Crystal trophies will be presented to the winners during a gala ceremony on April 1 at The Colony Theatre in Burbank, California. The two-day celebration includes a launch party, red carpet reception, press walk, presentation ceremony and official after party.

Television writer Megan Amram’s web series dedicated to her quest to win an Emmy cleared the first hurdle: she collected nominations for outstanding actress in a short-form comedy or drama series and for outstanding series.

Released on April 27, just in time to qualify for the 2018 awards, Amram pulls the viewer into her by-the-numbers campaign to grab the television industry’s top award.

In the first of six episodes in the series, An Emmy for Megan, Amram confides to actress Alison Rich about her epiphany while watching last year’s Emmy Awards. That’s when she discovered the short-form series category, with its low bar for eligibility (six episodes of under 15 minutes).

“I thought to myself, ‘Wow, I could win that,'” Amram said.

Rich points out the obvious challenge: Amram, a writer on The Good Place, Silicon Valley and Parks and Recreation, doesn’t act.

“Grey’s Anatomy” star Chandra Wilson has joined the romantic musical “Christmas Harmony” with Kelley Jakle, Sally Struthers, Lee Garlington, and vocalist/guitarist Sean Watkins of Nickel Creek, Variety has learned exclusively.

The production is currently shooting in Los Angeles and marks writer-director Nanea Miyata’s feature film debut. June Street Studios is the production company.

Not long into Some Kind of Beautiful, the new film from director Tom Vaughan, a man best known for his 2008 Ashton Kutcher/Cameron Diaz film What Happens in Vegas, it becomes achingly clear that someone, somewhere pitched this film with intentions of crafting a romantic comedy. However, the film wasn’t painted in shades of either, and has the opposite effect of deadening emotional receptors. The partnership between SAG-aftra and the American Film Institute in forming the Conservatory has created a collaborative playground for actors and filmmakers. “[Founder Kathleen Freeman] was a real champion for having the symbiotic relationship between Screen Actors Guild and the American Film Institute,” Ilyanne Morden Kichaven, executive director of the Los Angeles Local, told Backstage. “I want actors to know where to go to get the answers to their questions, and then hopefully get a sense of direction for their careers,” says Conservatory committee member Lee Garlington. “I’d like to think the Conservatory is the poster child for the seasoned professional offering a hand to the performer starting out.” To join, actors must be SAG-aftra members in good standing.

Lee Garlington has been steadily working in Hollywood since the '80s. "I haven't had to say, 'Would you like fries or Caesar salad with that?' since 1984," she said. But, the actress added, she hasn't peaked yet.

It's a shame The Psycho Legacy didn't come out a couple years ago. True, this year marks the 50th anniversary of Hitchcock's classic, so the timing is perfect. But released on the heels of Never Sleep Again: The Elm Street Legacy, one can't help but compare the two, and the Psycho documentary comes up lacking.

The makers of what looks to be be a fascinating independent retrospective documentary about the Psycho films and their spin-offs, The Psycho Legacy, have released a new trailer. It comes ahead of a possible release of the film later this year. It can be viewed by clicking on the Trailer tab above.

The original Psycho will be 50 years old next year. It was directed by Alfred Hitchcock from a script by Joseph Stefano based on the novel by Robert Bloch. The film helped to make a star of Anthony Perkins, who played the murderous Norman Bates. Psycho became notorious for a scene in which the character of Marion Crane (played by Janet Leigh) is knifed in the shower. It is also remembered for the iconic image of the Bates Motel.

Psycho spawned two theatrical sequels, Psycho II in 1983 and Psycho III in 1986, as well as a fourth made-for-television prequel, Psycho IV: The Beginning...

I'm a pretty big fan of documentaries as not only do they bring back some incredible memories, but they provide new information for the die hard fan or people looking to learn more about the topic at hand. For the past year, Robert Galluzzo - who runs horror website Icons Of Fright - has been producing an extensive documentary on the Psycho franchise titled The Psycho Legacy.
