The hit '90s sitcom "Seinfeld" was ostensibly about a fictionalized version of comedian Jerry Seinfeld (played by himself), but in reality, it was about one of the most deeply dysfunctional friend groups in television history. Each of the four members of the core gang was absolutely vital to the show's success, as they balanced one another. The dynamic doesn't work without their individual quirks. Conceptualized as a "show about nothing" by series creator Larry David, the characters became the real draw, and that made it especially noticeable when one of them was missing.
Elaine Benes, played by Julia Louis-Dreyfus, was the only female member of the core four, but that wasn't the original plan. In fact, a waitress named Claire (Lee Garlington) was originally planned to be the fourth lead, but the writers dropped her after the pilot because they wanted someone more active with the main group. For a show with 180 episodes, "Seinfeld" has oddly few stinkers. Larry David and Jerry Seinfeld's magnum opus took the TV landscape by storm throughout the '90s, but the show still remains fresh –- and funnier than almost anything else on television, before or since. Across its nine seasons, "Seinfeld" honed and then perfected its distinctive style of comedy, bringing viewers increasingly labyrinthine and rewarding standalone stories of misunderstandings, faux pas, and assorted disasters –- all memorably set in the creators' unpredictable vision of New York City.
For all its greatness, though, "Seinfeld" has a few low points, and I don't just mean the clip shows. Its first season doesn't start off particularly strong, though its early episodes build a solid platform onto which later, more intricate comedic plots can expand. Likewise, season 4 spends long stretches of time focused on George (Jason Alexander) and Jerry's (Seinfeld) attempt to write a TV show,...

It’s hard to imagine Seinfeld without Elaine Benes, as played by the great Julia Louis-Dreyfus. In addition to her iconic bad dancing and overly-aggressive “get outs,” Elaine obviously provided a crucial female perspective to the core character dynamic. Without Elaine, the show just flat-out wouldn’t have worked. I mean, would anybody want to watch the masturbation contest episode if it was just about three creepy dudes?
But Elaine wasn’t in the pilot episode of Seinfeld. In fact, The Seinfeld Chronicles boasted a number of glaring discrepancies that sets it apart from the rest of series, including Kramer’s name (it’s “Kessler” in the pilot), his pet dog, and instead of Monk’s, there’s a whole different coffee shop called Pete’s Luncheonette.
What Jerry and George did to get banned forever from this establishment remains a mystery.

Tom Holland (not the one who plays Spider-Man) was best known as an actor when he was hired to write the screenplay for a project that sounded like an insane idea: a 23-years-later sequel to the Alfred Hitchcock classic Psycho. But somehow, Holland and director Richard Franklin managed to deliver a Psycho II (watch it Here) that is a worthy follow-up to the original. Now, to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the film, Holland has published – through Holland House Entertainment – a 176 page book called Oh Mother, What Have You Done?, which gives a behind-the-scenes look at the making of Psycho II.
Authored by Tom Holland and containing unpublished memoirs by late Psycho II director Richard Franklin and conversations with the film’s editor Andrew London, Oh Mother, What Have You Done? offers fans a unique
glimpse into the continuation of the beloved Psycho film franchise, which created nightmares for millions of
people showering worldwide.

Like a lot of all-American dreamboats, Roy Harold Fitzgerald (née Scherer Jr.) made his way to Hollywood after World War II, making good on the offer to look up a friend’s brother should he ever find himself in the greater Los Angeles area. The ex-Navy mechanic had matinee-idol looks, a cornfed wholesomeness, and a lean-beefcake physique; anyone who took one look at Fitzgerald would have immediately thought, “He ought to be in pictures.” The young man had been told that acting was “sissy stuff” when he was growing up in the Midwest,...

This article contains details of real life events that will likely spoil future episodes of Love & Death.
Elizabeth Olsen is the lead in HBO Max’s new true crime limited drama series Love & Death. Olsen’s journey into the bloody genre sees her take on the role of murderer Candy Montgomery for seven episodes alongside Jesse Plemons.
In recent years several true crime dramas have been major hits for streamers, from the likes of Netflix’s controversial Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story to Hulu’s The Girl from Plainville. So it was no surprise then that HBO Max decided to take part too and add Candy Montgomery’s story to its stream. However, this is not the first time Candy’s story has been told.
In 1990, Stephen Gyllenhaal made a film inspired by the story called A Killing in a Small Town starring Barbara Hershey and Lee Garlington.

Could The Waitress in "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia" be an homage to a rarely seen "Seinfeld" character? If what Jason Alexander says is true, that might just be the case. "Seinfeld" remains one of the most pivotal sitcoms of the 20th century. In 1989, the "show about nothing" introduced audiences to Jerry Seinfeld's unique observational humor.
Debuting during the last vestiges of television's network era, "Seinfeld" took a while to gain traction. It was often one of NBC's lowest-rated primetime shows, and the show's day and time were shuffled around before it would make Thursday evening appointment television. "Seinfeld" would finish its second season NBC's 46th-rated show. Just a few seasons later, it would be the top show on television and a pop culture force of nature.
It was due to the show's innovative writing and chemistry between the four main characters: Jerry Seinfeld, George Costanza, Cosmo Kramer,...

A couple weeks ago, The Arrow in the Head Show hosts John “The Arrow” Fallon and Lance Vlcek praised the “surprisingly excellent” sequel Psycho II (watch that video Here). To find out what they had to say about this sequel, check out the video embedded above!
Directed by Norman Bates himself, Anthony Perkins, from a screenplay by Charles Edward Pogue, Psycho III has the following synopsis: Former mental patient Norman Bates is once again operating his infamous motel. Assisted by the shifty Duane Duke, Norman keeps up the semblance of being sane and ordinary, but he still holds on to some macabre habits. Sylvester Stallone has had a few franchises over the years – Rocky, Rambo, The Expendables – but he also has a film that should have been a franchise starter, but never received any of the sequels it deserved. That’s the 1986 classic Cobra (watch it Here), which also happens to be the movie The Arrow in the Head Show hosts John “The Arrow” Fallon and Lance Vlcek are talking about in the new episode of the series. A new episode of The Arrow in the Head Show has just been released this morning, and in this one hosts John “The Arrow” Fallon and Lance Vlcek head over to the Bates Motel to discuss one of the most surprisingly good sequels ever made: 1983’s Psycho II (watch it Here)! A movie that came along twenty-three years after its predecessor and somehow managed to be a worthy follow-up to one of the greatest horror movies ever made, Alfred Hitchcock’s 1960 classic Psycho. Jerry Seinfeld has released The Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee Book, a tie-in with his coffee-and-car-based talk show of the same name. It’s the perfect time for the legendary comedian to bring out a new book, because in the year since his iconic, hugely influential self-titled sitcom arrived on Netflix, there’s been a resurgence in Seinfeld fandom.
But some viewers were surprised when they started rewatching the series from the beginning and saw a bunch of unrecognizable elements in season 1. While Seinfeld found its footing around season 2 or 3, season 1 almost feels like a totally different show.
Kramer’s Shorter Hair
In season 1, Cosmo Kramer arrived almost fully formed. The first season of the show delivered some of Kramer’s funniest storylines, like the foundation of his corporation Kramerica Industries and his hazardous idea for a pizza place where the customers make their own pie.

We are big fans of the 1986 Sylvester Stallone action slasher Cobra (watch it at This Link) here on JoBlo and Arrow in the Head, so it’s cool to see that a sixth scale figure of Stallone’s Cobra character Marion Cobretti is now available for pre-order through Sly Stallone Shop. This officially licensed figure, endorsed by Stallone himself, looks awesome… and it should, considering it’s going for the price of 290! An image of the figure can be seen at the bottom of this article, and more can be seen at the Sly Stallone Shop link.
The figure, which stands approximately 12 inches tall, has the following features: – Ultra-realistic head sculpt (Hand painted) – Over 28 Points of articulation (Approx 30 cm / 12 Inches) – 6 posable gloved hands – Black Jacket – Black shirt – Jeans – Boots – Weapon holster – Colt Gold Cup National Match (Custom) – Machinegun Jatimatic Smg with 4 magazines and laser optic – Two hand grenades – Police badge...

Though the movie, which features “The Pioneer Woman” star Ree Drummond in her first ever acting role, is a Food Network production, it will not air on the cable channel, instead being available only to Discovery+ subscribers when it debuts in November.
Here’s the official synopsis for “Candy Coated Christmas”:
Molly Gallant (Molly McCook), a Los Angeles-based marketing executive on top of the world, is planning a new business venture with her best friend and heading to the airport for her annual holiday father-daughter trip to Hawaii when she learns that the seed money she was counting on for her business has disappeared. Discovery Plus and Food Network are staking their claim to the holiday movie business.
Food Network has completed production on its first-ever scripted movie, “Candy Coated Christmas,” which won’t air on the linear cable channel but rather on Discovery Plus. The feel-good holiday movie features Ree Drummond, host of the cabler’s long-running “The Pioneer Woman.”
“Candy Coated Christmas” will mark the first original scripted movie to air on Discovery Plus. Discovery and Food Network aim to grab a slice of the holiday movie audience that has proven to be so lucrative for Hallmark Channel, Freeform, Discovery’s OWN and other cablers. Food Network and its sibling channels under the Discovery umbrella such as HGTV and Investigation Discovery already attract large female audiences, which is a good fit with the holiday movie demo.

It took a decade for Broadway royalty Kelli O’Hara to snag her first Tony Award win. But shortly after that success on her home turf, O’Hara may be on the way to her first Emmy Award thanks to the web series “The Accidental Wolf.”
O’Hara landed her first Tony nomination in the Musical Featured Actress category for “The Light in the Piazza” in 2005. While her co-star Victoria Clark was victorious in the lead category, O’Hara lost to Sara Ramirez from “Monty Python’s Spamalot.” O’Hara would go on to have an illustrious career on the rialto and would be recognized repeatedly in the lead category. She was nominated for her work in “The Pajama Game,” “South Pacific,” “Nice Work if You Can Get It,” and “The Bridges of Madison County.” Though she was competitive every year, she always wound up a Tony bridesmaid. Television writer Megan Amram’s web series dedicated to her quest to win an Emmy cleared the first hurdle: she collected nominations for outstanding actress in a short-form comedy or drama series and for outstanding series.
Released on April 27, just in time to qualify for the 2018 awards, Amram pulls the viewer into her by-the-numbers campaign to grab the television industry’s top award.
In the first of six episodes in the series, An Emmy for Megan, Amram confides to actress Alison Rich about her epiphany while watching last year’s Emmy Awards. That’s when she discovered the short-form series category, with its low bar for eligibility (six episodes of under 15 minutes).
“I thought to myself, ‘Wow, I could win that,'” Amram said.
Rich points out the obvious challenge: Amram, a writer on The Good Place, Silicon Valley and Parks and Recreation, doesn’t act.

This week, Colton Haynes fired off a series of heated tweets about being gay in Hollywood, calling the industry "so f*cked up." "So much of the focus is on your personal life & has nothing to do with the talent you have to bring to the table," he wrote on Tuesday. There doesn't necessarily seem to be any sort of event precipitating the tweets - at least, not on the outside. But seeing as Colton came out last May in an Entertainment Weekly profile, it's highly likely he's faced his fair share of adversity in the time since. After all, the fact that it's difficult to be an out gay man or lesbian in Hollywood is no secret. Plenty of stars have opened up about the huge stigma surrounding the Lgbtq+ community in Hollywood. Rock Hudson, who rose to fame in the '60s and died from AIDS-related causes in the '80s,...

Some Kind of Nonsense: Vaughan’s Unintentional Antithesis of the RomCom
Not long into Some Kind of Beautiful, the new film from director Tom Vaughan, a man best known for his 2008 Ashton Kutcher/Cameron Diaz film What Happens in Vegas, it becomes achingly clear that someone, somewhere pitched this film with intentions of crafting a romantic comedy. However, the film wasn’t painted in shades of either, and has the opposite effect of deadening emotional receptors. Staunchly filled with resolutely sturdy clichés in the hoary tradition of the aging lothario coming to uncertain terms with his playboy instinct and need for companionship, Vaughan and first time screenwriter Matthew Newman glide through this set-up with an icy dazedness, as if daring us to wade through its fretful yet uneventful schemes to an outcome prophesized from the moment its three leads converge.

SAG-aftra members: Are you getting your union dues’ worth? For instance, are you familiar with the SAG-aftra Los Angeles Conservatory? “When people find out about us, they’re always amazed,” said Dawn Deibert, the Conservatory’s program coordinator. The partnership between SAG-aftra and the American Film Institute in forming the Conservatory has created a collaborative playground for actors and filmmakers. “[Founder Kathleen Freeman] was a real champion for having the symbiotic relationship between Screen Actors Guild and the American Film Institute,” Ilyanne Morden Kichaven, executive director of the Los Angeles Local, told Backstage. “I want actors to know where to go to get the answers to their questions, and then hopefully get a sense of direction for their careers,” says Conservatory committee member Lee Garlington. “I’d like to think the Conservatory is the poster child for the seasoned professional offering a hand to the performer starting out.” To join, actors must be SAG-aftra members in good standing.

Lee Garlington has been steadily working in Hollywood since the '80s. "I haven't had to say, 'Would you like fries or Caesar salad with that?' since 1984," she said. But, the actress added, she hasn't peaked yet.

A serial guest star and regular film supporting player, Garlington is perhaps best known for having one the biggest show business "tragedies": She was the original female star in the "Seinfeld" pilot. It's a shame The Psycho Legacy didn't come out a couple years ago. True, this year marks the 50th anniversary of Hitchcock's classic, so the timing is perfect. But released on the heels of Never Sleep Again: The Elm Street Legacy, one can't help but compare the two, and the Psycho documentary comes up lacking.
That should not be the case. After all, Psycho has deeper roots, interwoven into generations of moviegoers since the 60's. One can argue that Freddy might not have appeared on the big screen had Norman Bates not paved the way. But the filmmakers stumble at the start, spending less time discussing the...

The makers of what looks to be be a fascinating independent retrospective documentary about the Psycho films and their spin-offs, The Psycho Legacy, have released a new trailer. It comes ahead of a possible release of the film later this year. It can be viewed by clicking on the Trailer tab above.
The original Psycho will be 50 years old next year. It was directed by Alfred Hitchcock from a script by Joseph Stefano based on the novel by Robert Bloch. The film helped to make a star of Anthony Perkins, who played the murderous Norman Bates. Psycho became notorious for a scene in which the character of Marion Crane (played by Janet Leigh) is knifed in the shower. It is also remembered for the iconic image of the Bates Motel.
