Though Actuals Lower Than Sunday Estimates, Gomez, Hudgens, Franco and Bikini Combo Has Year's Highest Average
Gomez, Hudgens, Franco, guns and bikinis: Outstanding domestic debut Harmony Korine's crime flick Spring Breakers currently boasts the year's highest per-theater average. That's no small feat. As per final Us/Canada weekend box-office numbers published on the web site Box Office Mojo, this past weekend (March 15-17) the film raked in $263,002 at three locations (two in New York City, one in Los Angeles). That's down slightly from the studio's $270,000 estimate released on Sunday, but still enough to average a fantastic $87,667 per venue. (Pictured above: Gomez [scroll down for more on Gomez's box-office performance to date; pictured below: bad girls in bikinis in court.) One of the highest opening weekend per-theater averages ever Spring Breakers was down one spot on Box Office Mojo's post-1982 chart of opening-weekend per-theater averages. At #23, the movie is sandwiched between two Academy Award winners: Tom Hooper / Colin Firth's The King's Speech with $88,863 and Steven Spielberg / Daniel Day-Lewis' Lincoln with $85,846. Once inflation is factored in, Spring Breakers drops to the 52nd spot (down nine spots from yesterday's estimates), landing between Daniel Myrick...

In Production: “Nymphomaniac,” “Feed The Dog,” “The Great Beauty” And “The Right Kind Of Wrong”
“In Production” is a regular column which focuses on notable independent films that are currently shooting. If you would like your film to be included in this space, please send an email to nick@filmmakermagazine.com

Lars von Trier’s Nymphomaniac is only two days into filming and has already stirred a great deal of controversy (no surprise there). The film has been described as an erotic drama that, according to star Shia Labeouf, will feature hard-core pornographic sex scenes (the producers insist that “body doubles and visual effects” will be used). Von Trier plans to release it in two parts – each in a soft-core and hard-core version. (What is this? The arthouse porn equivalent of Kill Bill?) The film stars Charlotte Gainsbourg (Melancholia) as the titular nymphomaniac who tells the story of her life from 0-50 to a man (Stellan Skarsgård) who discovers her beaten up in an alleyway.

The actress-singer is going indie as she joins the cast of the romantic road comedy, "Parental Guidance Suggested," according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Based on Ric Browde's quirky coming-of-age novel, "While I'm Dead ... Feed the Dog" (yeah, we'd change the title, too), "Parental Guidance Suggested" follows 16-year-old Ric (Nat Wolff) and his crush, Nina (Gomez), as they embark on a rock n' roll odyssey that will almost definitely involve self-discovery and kissing.

Warner Bros. makes deal for 'Bite Me'
Tim Garrick
Warner Bros. is sharpening its teeth for "Bite Me," a comedy spec by Tim Garrick and Scott Russell. Thunder Road's Basil Iwanyk and Andrew Lazar of Mad Chance Prods. are producing.

The logline to the high-concept idea is being kept in the vault.

Thunder Road's Mary Viola is exec producing. The deal, preemptive in nature, was for mid-six figures.

Garrick directed "The Receipt," a short film that brought him to the attention of Lazar. That in turn led the two to begin collaboration on an adaptation of "When I'm Dead, Feed the Dog" for Garrick to direct. He is working on the "Dead" script with Russell, his longtime writing partner. The duo has "Blindsided" set up at Constantin Film.

Garrick and Russell are repped by the Gotham Group.
