‘Phineas and Ferb’ Creators Discuss the Show’s Lasting Footprint — and How It Led to New Episodes
Image
The way the creators of Phineas and Ferb tell it, there wasn’t much to restarting the beloved animated series.

“Disney called and said, ‘Do you want to?’,” co-creator Jeff “Swampy” Marsh says with a laugh.

Co-creator Dan Povenmire fills in a few more details: “[The show has] maintained a popularity in reruns for a long time. Then with Disney+, people told us over and over again that Phineas is always in the top five things on Disney+. I think it’s a very rewatchable show, which I’m thankful for,” Povenmire tells The Hollywood Reporter. “They had us do that movie in 2020 [Candace Against the Universe] that did really well, and we always sort of figured they would ask for some more movies or some more specials. Then they called up and said, would you do 40 more episodes and get back into production on the series? We’re like, ‘Yeah, I guess.’ We were thrilled by the idea,...

The Return of ‘Phineas and Ferb’ Promises Aliens, Therapy, and the Best Summer Vacation Ever
Image
After being away for a decade, the popular animated series “Phineas and Ferb” returns for Season 5 with an entire class full of kids ready for summer vacation: the titular step-brothers Phineas and Ferb, who inventively turn summertime into thrilling adventures; jealous older sister Candace; mad scientist Doofenshmirtz; and secret agent Perry the Platypus, who outwits Doofenshmirtz.

Picking up a year after they left off in 2015, not much has changed. Phineas’ orange and white T-shirt now has an extra stripe to make him appear taller, and Doofenshmirtz updates his social media status to “Evil Again.” But that’s part of the charm of “Phineas and Ferb.” The show has a charming, intelligent, still kid-focused style of comedy that is about bringing out the essential goodness and creativity in people. It was really a no-brainer for Disney to resurrect the series with a new 40-episode order, split into two seasons. The show...

To celebrate the return of the step-brothers and their unbelievable schemes, Funko is debuting a handful of new Pop! figures to accompany fans through 104 more days of summer vacation. Collider can offer an exclusive look at the five new items hitting store shelves, including Phineas, Ferb, and their iconic pet/secret agent, Perry the Platypus. The entire set is available to pre-order now for $14.99 apiece.

The figures reunite the genius inventors Phineas and Ferb in three dimensions, which looks as odd as you'd imagine, but nonetheless captures their classic appearances. ‘Phineas and Ferb’ Sticks to What Works in a Welcome Return
Image
Most TV revivals are bad. They exist solely for the cynical purpose of exploiting a familiar title, not because there are new stories worth telling in a particular world. Good TV shows are the product of a specific time in the lives of the characters on the show, the people making the show, and the people watching at home. Change one or more of those, and it usually doesn’t work.

There are exceptions, of course. The passage of time in some ways enhanced both Roseanne/The Conners and Party Down,...

Phineas and Ferb Creators Confirm Casting Ted Lasso Fan Favorites in Revival: 'Live-Action Version of Our Show'

The highly anticipated return of the animated show features stepbrothers Phineas and Ferb, their older sister, Candace, their pet Perry the Platypus, and the evil Dr. Doofenschmirtz.

The newest season will mark the start of a new summer vacation for Phineas and Ferb, making the step-brothers a year older and perhaps a year wiser. The fifth season will also bring with it several guest stars, including two Ted Lassofavorites.

Dani Rojas and Coach Beard Actors To Guest Star

Per Decider, Phineas and Ferb creators Jeff ‘Swampy’ Marsh and Dan Povenmire (who also voices Doofenschmirtz), have confirmed that Ted Lasso actors Brendan Hunt and Cristo Fernández will voice characters in the upcoming fifth season. Hunt, who also co-created Ted Lasso, plays Coach...

‘Phineas and Ferb’ Stars Reveal Season 5’s One Subtle Change at Red Carpet Premiere
Image
When “Phineas and Ferb” returns for a new season Thursday on Disney Channel and next day on Disney+, it’ll have been just shy of a decade since the Season 4 finale aired back in June 2015.

And while “Phineas and Ferb the Movie: Candace Against the Universe” debuted on Disney+ in August 2020, the team behind the Emmy-winning animated series told TheWrap at Saturday’s premiere just how touching it was to see the cartoon remain relevant in pop culture despite 10 years off the air.

“I’m so grateful, I feel like fans have always been such a big part of our success and that’s not unnoticed,” Ashley Tisdale said. “I love that they make trending sounds on TikTok of Candace and Phineas and Ferb. Literally, they got us here today.”

“It’s something I discovered during the pandemic when I got onto TikTok. There’s a whole group of people still talking about the show,...

‘Phineas & Ferb’ Revival In The Works With Creator Dan Povenmire As Part Of Overall Deal With Disney Branded Television
Image
A Phineas and Ferb revival is in the works as part of creator Dan Povenmire’s newly inked overall deal with Disney Branded Television.

There will be another 40 episodes of the popular animated series produced as part of the deal, which will equate to two seasons. It’s not clear where the episodes will air, since Disney Branded Television currently produces series across Disney Channel, Disney+, Disney Junior and Disney Xd.

Disney Branded Television President Ayo Davis made the announcement in conjunction with Povenmire during Friday’s Television Critics Association panel.

“There’s songs that we wrote in 2005 for this show that are trending on TikTok. That has been one of the best times in my career is the fact that this whole generation of kids and parents really took this show into their hearts, and it still means so much to them,” Povenmire said.

Povenmire’s overall deal also...

‘Phineas and Ferb the Movie: Candace Against the Universe’ Review: Disney+ Gets Its First Animated Hit
Image
Movies have been around since the late 19th century, but only now — after more than 100 years of failure — has someone finally made one that hinges on the invention of a ray gun that replaces anyone it shoots with the nearest available chicken. The device is called “The Chicken Replace-inator,” and it’s the latest weapon created by the mad scientist Dr. Doofenshmirtz (of Doofenshmirtz Evil Incorporated fame) in his never-ending quest to kill the fedora-wearing secret agent who always foils his plans and also happens to be a platypus — Perry the platypus.

The cackling lovechild of Abe Vigoda and the Wicked Witch of the West, Doofenshmirtz has come up with all sorts of cockamamie schemes to destroy Perry over the years — one for each of the 222 episodes of “Phineas and Ferb” that aired on the Disney Channel between 2007 and 2015 — but the Chicken Replace-inator has to be among the dumbest and most inspired.
