Michael Keaton Among First Guests for 'Everybody's Live With John Mulaney'
Image
Who could bring together Batman, famous comedians, finance journalists, and folk singers for a live talk show? Well, writer and comedian John Mulaney, of course. Mulaney's newest endeavor, Everybody's Live, will be Netflix's first-ever live talk show, so you know they had to pull out all the stops. The live comedy show, set to premiere on Netflix on March 12, 7 p.m. Pt, has recently released a sneak peek at its surprisingly eclectic guest list.

In the first episode of the first season of the live show, which has already been renewed for a second season according to Deadline, will feature an impressive guest lineup of actor Michael Keaton, American folk singer and activist Joan Baez, actor and comedian Fred Armisen, Cypress Hill and personal finance columnist Jessica Roy. Now that's an odd group that only the Spider-Ham voice actor could assemble. However, the list is not unusual for Mulaney's tastes,...

Was Carla Moran A Real Person? The Entity True Story Inspiration Explained
Image
The following article contains discussions of rape that some readers may find disturbing.

While not common, there are some horror movies based on true stories leading some to question if The Entity's Carla Moran is a real person. Released in 1982, The Entity is a supernatural horror film directed by Sidney J. Furie. Its story of a woman terrorized by vicious unseen attackers sparked huge controversy when The Entity was released, it received an X rating in the United Kingdom and didn't make a huge splash in the US.

In The Entity, when single mom Carla Moran (Barbara Hershey) is assaulted and raped by a poltergeist, no one believes her. Her psychiatrist, Dr. Sneiderman (Ron Silver), believes that she is hallucinating, and even Carla’s teenage son thinks it’s all in her head — at first. Eventually, Carla gets help from two parapsychologists who try to help her get rid of the dangerous entity.

John Mulaney on the Unpredictable Alchemy of ‘Everybody’s in LA’ — and Why He’s Not Ruling Out More
Image
To break through an algorithmically generated streaming landscape, John Mulaney decided to do something different. And people noticed. It was a six-part talk show for Netflix, premiering May 3 and ending May 10, called John Mulaney Presents: Everybody’s in LA. The live format and unrehearsed, offbeat interactions produced something TV hadn’t seen in a while — something bracingly alive with chaotic (and comedic) possibility. It hearkened the earliest days of Late Night With David Letterman, just with a food delivery droid called Saymo in place of Larry “Bud” Melman. Mulaney, 41, checked in with The Hollywood Reporter to talk about the show’s inspirations, how it came together and his plans for future hosting gigs.

Hi, John. Are you in L.A. today?

I’m in New York, actually.

Is New York still home for you?

It’s not, no. California is.

So you’re just summering in the Hamptons or something like that?...

‘Everybody’s In LA’ Host John Mulaney Says “We Can’t Get Renewed” As Comedian Reveals Who Didn’t Want To Appear On Live Netflix Show
Image
John Mulaney’s wildly chaotic six-episode run of Everybody’s In LA featured old punks, phone-ins and just about every top comedian in the states.

But the show, which ran for six episodes around the Netflix Is A Joke Festival between May 3 and May 10, was originally designed as a variety show. “I wanted everyone to go make what they wanted and I will put it on. We can’t get renewed. We should actually be a variety show,” he said.

Mulaney was asked why he wanted to make a show that was largely difficult? He said that Netflix approached him as they wanted to do something live across the comedy festival but weren’t entirely sure what. “One idea they had was stand-up at the Geffen Theater. Only with only David doing stand-up, just Laura Nyro stories. He had a tight hour,” Mulaney joked. “I liked that it was an...
