Tom Hardy’s 76% Rotten Tomatoes Crime Series Sends Taylor Sheridan Packing on Paramount+
Image
Only four episodes remain in the first season of MobLand, but Tom Hardy’s new crime thriller series just added another accomplishment to its belt. Earlier this week, Taylor Sheridan’s Yellowstone prequel series, 1923, returned to Paramount+ streaming charts more than a month after its Season 2 finale. Hardy’s MobLand, which also stars Pierce Brosnan and Helen Mirren, has since claimed its spot in Paramount+’s top 10, now leaving 1923 to fade into the void after concluding its final season. MobLand was written and created for television by Ronan Bennett and Jez Butterworth, with Guy Ritchie serving as the primary director of the series. The show has earned average scores of 76% from critics and 77% from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes, and it also stars Joanne Froggatt, Lara Pulver, and Anson Boon.

While MobLand has certainly been a hit for Paramount+ thus far, Hardy has a new movie streaming on Netflix that...

Tom Hardy's 13-Year-Old Spy Rom-Com Gets a New Streaming Home
Image
Tom Hardy is currently starring in the new hit crime drama MobLand. But 13 years ago, he was competing with Chris Pine for the love of Reese Witherspoon in This Means War, which, along with the extended edition, will debut on Max on May 1.

Billed as a romantic spy comedy, 2012's This Means War follows two CIA agents, Tuck Hansen (Hardy) and Franklin "Fdr" Foster (Pine) who are also best friends. But their relationship hits a bump in the road when the pair find out they are dating the same woman, Lauren (Witherspoon). The movie was directed by McGand written by Timothy Dowling (Pixels), Simon Kinberg, and Marcus Gautesen.

Upon its release, This Means War earned approximately $156.5 million worldwide against a production budget of $65 million, making it a modest box office success. Despite its financial performance, the film was met with largely negative reviews, receiving a 25% critic score and a 56% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes.

This Means War Review
This Means War Directed by: McG Written by: Timothy Dowling and Simon Kinberg (screenplay), Timothy Dowling and Marcus Gautesen (story) Starring: Reese Witherspoon, Chris Pine, Tom Hardy, Chelsea Handler, Til Schweiger They say that all is fair in love and war... so obviously if you're a highly trained C.I.A. operative with access to all kinds of high tech spy equipment, there's absolutely nothing wrong with using all of that stuff to try and steal your best friend's girl. This Means War is the latest in a long line of cookie cutter blockbusters trying to capture the male and female demographic by cramming action and romance together in the most obvious ways possible. The affair usually leaves both parties feeling a bit icky the next morning, and This Means War is no different. In the summer of 2010, we had Knight & Day and Killers, both of which featured female protagonists...

Angela Bassett Says This Means War
McG at an event for Terminator Salvation (2009)
You might think that McG was already finished shooting spy action comedy This Means War, but you’d be mistaken. And he’s added another actor to the cast in the shape of Angela Bassett. She’ll play the CIA boss overseeing agents Chris Pine and Tom Hardy, who go head to head when they fall in love with the same woman (Reese Witherspoon) and compete to win her heart by essentially trying to kill each other, causing massive property damage in the process. Bassett’s veteran agent is a career spy who has given over her life to the CIA and has no social life to speak of. Anyone want to bet she’ll re-discover her heart in the course of the film’s romantic shenanigans? While we’re still not 100% sold on the concept, it does boast a great cast – beyond the central triumvirate and Bassett’s boss,...

Steers starts 'War' for Simonds/Fox
Claire Danes, Jeff Goldblum, Ryan Phillippe, Susan Sarandon, Bill Pullman, Kieran Culkin, and Amanda Peet in Igby Goes Down (2002)
Following Igby Goes Down and How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days, Burr Steers means war. The multihyphenate has been tapped to rewrite and develop This Means War, the long-gestating action-adventure comedy for the Robert Simonds Co./Fox. Fox first acquired the Marcus Gautesen spec in 1998 when the Firm's Jeff Kwatinez and Michael Green were due to produce with client Martin Lawrence set to star. The pitch revolved around two best friends who both fall in love with the same woman and then wreak havoc on Manhattan. Over the years, War has had myriad writers attached. Steers began his career as an actor with credits including such films as Pulp Fiction and The Last Days of Disco. He wrote the screenplay to Lose and wrote and directed Igby. Steers is repped by WMA, Anonymous Content and attorney Karl Austen.
