Why Miranda Isn’t In The Lizzie McGuire Movie
Image
Despite being integral to the original series, Miranda Sanchez (Lalaine) is conspicuously absent from The Lizzie McGuire Movie. As a series regular in both seasons of the Disney Channel show, Miranda is one of Lizzie McGuire's (Hilary Duff) two best friends. Miranda, Lizzie, and David "Gordon" Gordo (Adam Lamberg) navigate the challenges of adolescence and the perils of middle school. Miranda is a likable Lizzie McGuire character who is a loyal and supportive friend to Lizzie. When Miranda makes poor choices, she always makes an effort to amend and learn from her mistakes.

When Lizzie McGuire ended after season 2, the story culminates with Lizzie and her fellow middle school graduates going on a class trip to Italy in The Lizzie McGuire Movie. Gordo, Kate Saunders (Ashlie Brillault), Ethan Craft (Clayton Snyder), Lizzie's brother, Matt McGuire (Jake Thomas), and her parents, Jo McGuire (Hallie Todd) and Sam McGuire (Robert Carradine), are...

Surprising Lizzie McGuire Theory Reveals The Movie's Real Villain Isn't Who You Think
Image
Paolo wasn't the villain in The Lizzie McGuire Movie – a theory suggests Isabella was. Paolo didn't lie to Lizzie, and Isabella was manipulative and wanted to sabotage Paolo and Lizzie. Despite the theory, Lizzie's strength shines as she overcomes challenges on stage.

The Lizzie McGuire Movie took Lizzie (Hilary Duff) and the audience to Italy for a unique adventure in which Lizzie became a pop star thanks to villain-in-disguise Paolo Valisari (Yani Gellman), but a shocking theory claims Paolo wasn’t the villain, after all. Lizzie McGuire is one of Disney Channel’s most popular and successful TV series of the 2000s, and to give proper closure to the story of the title character, a movie was released. The Lizzie McGuire Movie was set after the series finale and right after Lizzie’s junior high graduation, as she and her classmates prepared for high school.

Lizzie, her best friend Gordo...

Trailer for High School Serial Killer Horror Comedy 'Departing Seniors'
Image
"We can't just let him die." "Well, actually, we could..." Dark Sky Films has revealed an official trailer for an indie horror comedy creation called Departing Seniors, an original idea from writer / actor Jose Nateras. This premiered at FrightFest London and the Chicago Film Festival last year, with a release in February in theaters and on VOD coming up soon. Following an act of bullying, witty high school senior Javier develops psychic abilities which he must use to stop a mysterious serial killer targeting his classmates. Described as a slasher inspired by "The Dead Zone meets Scream." Ignacio Diaz-Silverio stars, with Maisie Merlock, Ireon Roach, Yani Gellman, Sasha Kuznetsov, Cameron Scott Roberts, and Ryan Foreman. It's also the feature directorial debut of actress Clare Cooney. This looks rather generic, of course, but with some fun high school humor. The main kid looks a lot like Alex Wolff, almost like they wanted to cast him.

Departing Seniors trailer turns The Dead Zone into a high school slasher
Image
We’ve seen Groundhog’s Day as a slasher with Happy Death Day, It’s a Wonderful Life as a slasher with It’s a Wonderful Knife, Freaky Friday as a slasher with Freaky, and Back to the Future as a slasher with Totally Killer. Next in the “this movie, but it’s a slasher” line-up is Departing Seniors, which mixes the high school slasher set-up with elements from Stephen King’s The Dead Zone. Dark Sky Films will be giving Departing Seniors a limited theatrical and VOD release on February 2nd, and with that date right around the corner a trailer has arrived online. You can check it out in the embed above.

The feature directorial debut of actress Clare Cooney, Departing Seniors was written by actor Jose Nateras and centers on high school student Javier, who doesn’t exactly fit in with the popular kids as a queer Mexican-American.

Jason X (2001) – Awfully Good Horror Movies
Kevin Bacon, Adrienne King, Ari Lehman, Robbi Morgan, Betsy Palmer, and Jeannine Taylor in Friday the 13th (1980)
It’s time for a new episode of the Awfully Good Horror Movies video series, and in this one we’re looking back at one of the least popular installments in my beloved Friday the 13th franchise. That’s the tenth entry, Jason X (watch it Here), also known as “the one where Jason goes to space”. To hear all about it, check out the video embedded above!

Directed by Jim Isaac from a screenplay written by Todd Farmer (and some uncredited rewriters), Jason X has the following synopsis: The year is 2455. The Place is Old Earth. Once the shimmering blue jewel of the galaxy, Old Earth is now a contaminated planet abandoned for centuries. Yet humans have returned to the deadly place that they once fled. Not to live, but to research the ancient rusting artifacts of the bygone civilizations that caused this environmental disaster. And little does the...

11 Beloved Family Movies Turning 20 In 2023
Image
Twenty years ago, tween-girl cinema thrived. Hilary Duff, Lindsay Lohan, and Amanda Bynes kicked off the junior rom-com eras -- bringing their Disney and Nickelodeon fans along for the ride. Big-screen coming-of-age stories, family sagas, and whimsical made-for-television movies defined youth culture in 2003. Pop music became more accessible to children. Bright colors and Y2K fashion arrived in full force. Kids were paying attention to the media and products advertised to them.

As a person who turned nine in '03, I vividly remember this era of family films. They were hopeful, playful, and rife with young characters seeking adventures. I'll never forget when my sister and I saw our first movies on DVD instead of VHS: "The Lizzie McGuire Movie" and "What a Girl Wants." For millennial fans, Hilary Duff's Italian excursion has been on repeat as a literal soundtrack of our lives. Amanda Bynes' British battle of the debutantes sharpened our rebellious side.

Hilary Duff in The Lizzie McGuire Movie (2003)
Hey now, hey now! Happy anniversary to The Lizzie McGuire Movie!

It’s been 15 years since Lizzie McGuire, the fan-loved character played by Hilary Duff, made her jump from the small screen to the big screen. The Lizzie McGuire Movie, which was based on the Disney Channel series Lizzie McGuire, revolves around high school senior Lizzie taking a dream trip to Italy where she sings in front of thousands, links up with her famous Italian doppelganger Isabella and helps destroy a bad boy pop star’s reputation, just to name a few classic Lizzie hijinks.

When asked what she remembers most about making the film,...

’47 Metres Down’ DVD Review
Stars: Mandy Moore, Claire Holt, Matthew Modine, Chris Johnson, Yani Gellman, Santiago Segura | Written by Johannes Roberts, Ernest Riera | Directed by Johannes Roberts

Directed by Johannes Roberts (The Other Side of the Door), this ladies-in-peril shark thriller might lack the bite of last year’s The Shallows, but it delivers enough of the requisite suspense moments to ensure that it succeeds on its own B-movie terms.

Mandy Moore (TV’s This Is Us) and Claire Holt (TV’s The Vampire Diaries) play Lisa and Kate, two vacationing sisters who have come to Mexico to help Lisa get over being recently dumped by her boyfriend. (In an unexpected echo of Amy Schumer’s Snatched, Kate is a last-minute replacement for the now ex-boyfriend, which kind of makes you wish Schumer and Hawn had thrown in some sharks to liven things up a bit).

Down in the dumps because her boyfriend had said she was boring,...

47 Meters Down: Roundtable With Actors Matthew Modine & Yani Gellman
What would you do if you were trapped in a cage deep into the ocean, surrounded by a handful of great white sharks? It’s a terrifying prospect, and ever since Jaws hit theaters back in the ‘70s, moviegoers have been fascinating with the danger surrounding sharks.

In the film 47 Meters Down, we see two women get trapped in such a circumstance. Will they stay calm, collected, and find a way out of this mess, or will they succumb to the forces of the sea? That remains to be seen.

Recently, Lrm had the opportunity to attend a press junket, and while there, we had the opportunity to attend a roundtable with several other outlets, and speak with co-stars of the film Matthew Modine and Yani Gellman, who play the characters Captain Taylor and Louis, respectively. Throughout they interview, they discuss the filmmaking process, the experience in shooting on location,...

Interview: Matthew Modine and Yani Gellman Discuss 47 Meters Down
Later tonight, 47 Meters Down swims its way into theaters everywhere, and the action-fueled horror movie has had quite a wild ride so far. It was originally set to be released on home media last summer, only to be picked up by Entertainment Studios and become destined to hit big screens everywhere this weekend.

During a recent press day, Daily Dead had the opportunity to chat with two of the co-stars in 47 Meters Down, Matthew Modine (Full Metal Jacket, Stranger Things) and Yani Gellman (Urban Legends: Final Cut, Stoney from Jason X), who play a boat captain and potential suitor to one of the film’s heroines, respectively. The duo discussed what intrigued them about the project, the challenges of making the film, and recalled 47 Meters Down’s unusual journey into theaters.

What was it that initially attracted you to this project? Had you seen any of Johannes [Roberts'] prior films?

Review: 47 Meters Down Makes for a Terrifyingly Fun Summer Movie Experience
Here’s a little-known fact about me: I love snorkeling. The last vacation I took down to Mexico, I spent five out of the seven days we were there floating around the ocean and several cenotes, taking in all the views of aquatic life that I could possibly get. But here’s the thing: once I get into dark water territory (where I no longer can see the bottom), that’s when I start to freak out a bit, and my own claustrophobia begins to set in. That being said, there’s a lot to 47 Meters Down that really left me unnerved, particularly once our protagonists end up stuck at the bottom of the ocean floor, with the still darkness of the ocean encompassing them, and no way to tell whether or not a shark is headed their way.

Not only did it tap into my very own worst fears,...

Can Cars 3 Beat Wonder Woman to the Box Office Finish Line?
Tony Shalhoub, Owen Wilson, Larry the Cable Guy, Cai Puri-Evans, Heledd Jarman, Cristela Alonzo, and Siân Eirian in Cars 3 (2017)
After easily handling the underperforming Dark Universe movie The Mummy, the indie thriller It Comes at Night and the true story drama Megan Leavey, Warner Bros.' superhero hit Wonder Woman faces its stiffest competition in its third weekend, going up against four movies in wide release. The most formidable of these competitors is the Disney Pixar animated sequel Cars 3, which has the widest release of these newcomers, along with Open Road's Tupac biopic All Eyez On Me, Sony Pictures' R-rated comedy Rough Night and Entertainment Studios' shark thriller 47 Meters Down. While the Wonder Woman box office run has been impressive thus far, Diana of Themyscira's reign atop the charts will come to an end this weekend, with Cars 3 most likely taking the top spot.

Box Office Mojo reports that Cars 3 will open in an estimated 3,900 theaters this weekend, while 47 Meters Down is expected to roll out in 3,500 theaters,...

New trailer for shark flick ’47 Metres Down’
This might sound strange but there’s a new trailer for shark survival horror/thriller 47 Meters Down - I say might sound strange because, at least in the Us, the film has already debuted on DVD. Those film fans that were quick enough could buy this in any supermarket prior to the films cinematic debut. Though you had to be quick, as the DVD was pulled from shelves after 47 Meters Down was picked up by another distributor for a cinema release!

Directed by Johannes Roberts (F, The Other Side of the Door), 47 Meters Down stars Mandy Moore, Claire Holt, Yani Gellman, and Matthew Modine. The film arrives in Us cinemas on June 16th.

On the rebound after a devastating break-up, Lisa (Mandy Moore) is ready for adventure while on vacation in Mexico. Even still, she needs a little extra persuasion when her daring sister Kate (Claire Holt) suggests they go shark diving with some locals.

First Trailer for Trapped Inside a Shark Cage Movie '47 Meters Down'
"How deep are we?" "47 meters." "I'm so scared!" Another scary shark horror movie? Why not! A trailer has debuted online for a film titled 47 Meters Down, about two sisters who are trapped inside a shark cage at the bottom of the ocean. This seems just a little bit freakier than The Shallows, considering they're trapped underwater, inside a shark cage, with only so much oxygen left before they run out. Mandy Moore and Claire Holt star, with a cast including Matthew Modine, Yani Gellman, and Santiago Segura. This looks exactly like you would expect - there's no surprises here. I'm curious if they'll keep the "47 Meters" title for America, since most aren't familiar with meters, but it works (and Fyi, 47 meters = 154 feet). Enjoy. Here's the first international trailer (+ poster) for Johannes Roberts' 47 Meters Down, from YouTube: Two sisters (Claire Holt & Mandy Moore), vacationing in Mexico, are trapped in a...

Shonda Rhimes' 'The Catch,' Biblical 'Of Kings an Prophets' lead ABC orders
And finally ABC is in the game!  The only network not to pick up a new series (and still the only network not to formally renew a single old series) jumped into the pre-upfronts excitement in a major way on Thursday afternoon, picking up six new dramas, several of which sound rather ambitious. Before going into depth, the basics: On Thursday (May 7) afternoon, ABC ordered the Biblical epic "Of Kings and Prophets" and the Shonda Rhimes-produced "The Catch," as well as "Wicked City" (formerly "L.A. Crime"), "The Family" (formerly Untitled Jenna Bans), "Quantico" and the Untitled Pate & Fishburne Project (formerly "Boom"). ABC no doubt has plenty more new series pickups to do ahead of the network's Tuesday, May 12 upfront presentation. Let's get to the details, because some of these new shows sound pretty interesting actually... *** "Of Kings and Prophets" comes from creators Adam Cooper & Bill Collage and it is...

Pretty Little Liars Season Finale Review: “A Is For Answers” (Season 4, Episode 24)
Pretty Little Liars closes the curtains on season four with one of the most intense episodes yet, but not before Alison (Sasha Pieterse) fills in a few blanks for us. And she’s not the only one with a story to tell. Cece Drake (Vanessa Ray) is in custody for the murder of Detective Wilden, courtesy of A, and she finally gets the chance to tell her side of the story, too.

With so much history packed between these two stories, fans were in for a varied blast from the past. Not only are there characters involved that we haven’t seen all season (some for several seasons), but some in capacities you never saw coming. Namely, Noel Kahn (Brant Daugherty), who despite antagonizing the Liars more than once during Mona’s (Janel Parrish) reign as A, has actually been helping Ali. Which begs the question, how many people actually knew that Ali was alive?...

‘Beauty & The Beast’ Season 2 Scoop: Inside Vincent & Catherine’s Reunion
Beasties, prepare to watch Vincent and Catherine ‘fall in love all over again’ when The CW hit returns for its second season — tonight at 9 p.m.!

Beauty & The Beast fans were crushed when Vincent (Jay Ryan) and Catherine (Kristin Kreuk) were torn apart on May’s season finale, and after three long months, their suffering is almost over! “VinCat” finally becomes whole again on the Oct. 7 season premiere — though the reunion won’t come without a snag or two. HollywoodLife.com recently visited the show’s Toronto set to get the scoop directly from Jay and Kristin’s mouths.

“For [Catherine], it’s something she’s been wanting desperately,” Kristin says of the reunion. “She spent three months of her life sacrificing everything to find him, so it’s a relief. It’s like her life has been saved, in a way. And then very quickly, it becomes challenging. For [Vincent], it’s shocking.

Pretty Little Liars Review: “Into The Deep” (Season 4, Episode 9)
Anytime I hear someone utter the words ‘lake house’ on an episode of Pretty Little Liars, I cringe. I already know that something bad is going to happen. And if I know it, I feel strongly that the characters should at the very least see something coming. Jenna’s back in town, there’s a surprise party happening – someone was clearly going to end up in the lake. Seriously, it plays like a broken record.

Jenna (Tammin Sursok) might not have been the obvious choice, especially with her recent return to the dark side – which is a reference to her loss of sight, not her moral compass – but it did facilitate that epic last scene between Spencer (Troian Bellisario) and Shana (Aeriél Miranda). All roads usually lead back to ‘A,’ but now that Cece Drake (Vanessa Ray) is in contention for that spot, it only seems right that she’s...

‘Pretty Little Liars’ Scoop: Lucy Hale Teases Season Premiere Death
Another funeral in Rosewood? Lucy gives HollywoodLife.com the scoop on who might already be six feet under!

Ever since the heart-stopping final moments of Pretty Little Liars‘ third season finale, fans have been asking, ‘What is in the trunk?’ But after chatting with Lucy Hale, we’re thinking the more appropriate question is, ‘Who is in the trunk?’ We recently caught up with the littlest liar of them all for a clue to the biggest mystery of season four.

“I can’t tell you much,” she told HollywoodLife.com – which is always a terrific way to start out. “But I can promise that we will find out the person who was killed last season.”

Say what? ‘The person who was killed?’ Did Lucy potentially spill some very tasty beans? Regardless of whether or not Miz Hale had a slip of the tongue, it’s certainly worth considering: If there...

‘Pretty Little Liars’ Season 4: Sean Faris Cast As Mysterious Police Officer
Sean will make his ‘Pretty Little Liars’ debut on the show’s June 11 season premiere.

There’s a smolder-y new man coming to Rosewood — and this one’s got his own set of handcuffs! Sean Faris will appear on the fourth season of Pretty Little Liars, according to TV Guide Magazine, as Pennsylvania state police officer Gabriel Holbrook. (That’s right, someone’s about to be investigated on a state level!)

Literally nothing else is known about Officer Holbrook at the moment, but given Rosewood’s history of shady law enforcement officials — both Garrett (Yani Gellman) and Detective Wilden (Bryce Johnson) turned out to be grade-a scumbags — I’m thinking Gabriel isn’t exactly going to be palling around with the girls.

So what will he be doing in Rosewood? Since he ranks higher than the police we’ve known thus far, my guess is that he’s being brought in for something big.

Yani tells HollywoofLife.com we may see Garrett pop up in flashbacks: 'There's still a lot of back story that needs to be explained.'
