Monsters, Inc. Reimagined as Horror Movie in Viral Concept Trailer
Image
The animated movie Monsters, Inc. is a family-friendly film, but even so, its plot is not too far away from what could make for an interesting horror movie. That's imagined with a new concept trailer that's capturing some attention on YouTube, depicting much more nightmarish versions of Mike and Sulley.

Per Multiverse of Movies on YouTube, a horror Monsters, Inc. concept trailer was created with the use of AI-generated voices and imagery. It's imagined with Wednesday star Jenna Ortega playing an older version of Boo, the little girl in the original film who's unafraid of the monsters who visit. This version of Boo, however, is haunted by her memories of the monsters she met as a child, culminating with a horrifying reunion. The concept trailer, which has garnered 138K views, can be viewed below.

The real Monsters, Inc. was a Pixar and Disney collaboration which was released in theaters in...

10 Underrated Pixar Characters Who Deserve Way More Respect
Image
In their several decades of operation, Pixar Animation Studios has had an outstanding output of animated films, cementing themselves as the industry standard for quality animated content. Within their myriad of standalone stories, sequels, and prequels, the studio has introduced a plethora of memorable and lovable characters into the zietgeist. From Monstropolis to Coco's Land of the Dead, the worlds of Pixar are overflowing with legendary characters like Lightning McQueen and Merida.

Although many Pixar protagonists have been given their moment in the spotlight, many smaller-scale characters have slipped through the cracks. These characters, like the incredibly cool Frozone and Soul's underrated antagonist Terry, deserve so much more praise than audiences have given them. Practically every Pixar film has its own group of unsung heroes, but even then, some land higher in the hierarchy and can, therefore, be designated as some of the studios' most obvious examples of this trend.

Pixar's Monsters Inc. Sequel Hopes Must Happen To Pay-Off Massive Sulley & Boo Cliffhanger
Image
Monsters, Inc. 2 can finally address Sulley and Boo's reunion following the first film's cliffhanger ending. Disney previously scrapped a devastating sequel idea where Boo would have died. Pixar must make sure Monsters, Inc. 2 lives up to the original film's high standard.

A Monsters, Inc. sequel has been a long time coming, and although Pixar hasn't officially confirmed another movie, one has been teased, hopefully finally paying off the original film's ending. The 2001 animated comedy, directed by Pete Docter, was only the fourth Pixar movie ever made, following in the footsteps of Toy Story, A Bug's Life, and Toy Story 2. Although Monsters, Inc. is one of Pixar's oldest films, it's still among the animation company's best. It deserves a sequel, which must live up to the hype that's been building since Monsters, Inc. ended on a cliffhanger 23 years ago.

Monsters, Inc. was Pete Docter's feature directorial debut, and...

Why Monsters Inc. 3 Should Be Pixar's First Horror Film
Image
Pixar is the top animation studio with dozens of beloved hit classics under their belts. Its first full-length film Toy Story in 1995, was a ground-breaking and game-changing movie that brought Pixar into the spotlight, and the studio has been making cinematic history ever since.

Almost every Pixar film has had an incredible impact on the movie industry and billions of hearts, staying mainly to the Pixar formula, the self-developed storytelling style that has consistently propelled their movies to the Academy forever. However, everyone can agree that change is a good thing and has to happen eventually, even movie companies.

Pixar's Monsters Inc. franchise might be the best and most wild way for Pixar to shake things up a bit. The classic film plays on the traditional fears of children, afraid that monsters might be hiding in the closet when they go to bed.

And it turns out the kids are right to be afraid,...

Monster’s Inc. BTS Details Explains Why Boo Is Still Pixar’s Cutest Character
Image
A detail from behind-the-scenes of the computer-animated film Monster's Inc. supports the popular opinion of Boo being Pixar's most adorable character. The 2001 crowd-puller presented a vast and entertaining cast of monsters, but it was the young child, Boo, who arguably stole the hearts of audiences and fans. Boo is introduced when Monster's Incorporated worker James P. Sullivan (John Goodman) and right-hand monster, Mike Wazowski (Billy Crystal), set out to return her safely to the human-world, from which she fortuitously escaped, before rival Randall (Steve Buscemi) or the Child Detection Agency (Cda) capture her for good.

In their adventure, Boo steals the hearts of Mike and Sully as well - her perseverance, adorable giggles, and cute as a button monster disguise make them realize that children aren't harmful to the monsters of Monstropolis, and they make it their mission to understand the Cda and Monster's Incorporated's methods of scaring children for profit.

Monsters Inc. Can Teach Us How To Fix Capitalism
Image
For years now, audiences have mistaken the real message behind the beloved Monsters, Inc. When most viewers think of Sully (John Goodman), Mike Wazowski (Billy Crystal), and Boo (Mary Gibbs) they see a straightforward buddy co-worker adventure about found family and the power of a child's laugh. Most people are missing out on the bigger picture. The adventures of the former top scarer and future top comedian aren't just fun and games: the real story of Monsters Inc. is about taking down a corrupt oligarchy in Monstropolis and how friendship can help dismantle a monopoly.

Inside Out's Riley Has A Cute Monsters, Inc. Connection
Image
Though released 14 years apart, Pixar Animation’s Inside Out and Monsters, Inc. have a cute and surprising connection between them. Both computer-animated films were box office and critical successes for Pixar and handled mature themes through comedy made for children. Inside Out features a young girl named Riley, while Monsters, Inc. features a toddler named Boo - two characters who have some natural parallels between them.

Inside Out and Monsters, Inc. both follow Pixar’s “What If X Had Feelings” movie formula. It’s a tried-and-true formula for Pixar that can be seen in numerous other films, but not all execute it as well as these two movie installments. One of their greatest achievements is how they manage to get viewers to truly care for the characters and their emotions, and some of this comes down to the great voice work featured within them. It is through the voice actress...

Fans Think Abby From "Turning Red" Is Boo From "Monster's Inc."
Image
There is so much fans loved about "Turning Red" - the boyband nostalgia, wholesome teen friendships, the honest take on the awkwardness of puberty, and the list continues. In Mei's loyal group of quirky friends, it's hard to miss Abby Park, the fun-loving and chaotic Korean-Canadian friend beloved for her passion and theatrics. Her character was such a fan favorite that fans have made hundreds of Tiktok pages solely dedicated to Abby content. Signs Abby From "Turning Red" Is Boo From "Monsters Inc."

The TikTok video shows a picture of Abby excitedly hugging Mei in her red panda form because of how fluffy she is. The theorist points out that Boo also loved how fluffy Sulley was, even showing another image of Boo hugging...

Mike and Sulley Return In Trailer & Poster For ‘Monsters, Inc. 3D’
I still can’t grasp the reason for releasing a 2D trailer for a 3D theatrical rerelease online, but alas Disney has delivered one with Monsters, Inc. 3D. 'Boo Bass' Makes Music with 'Monsters, Inc.'
How does one make music out of "Monsters, Inc.," you wonder? The answer may come as a surprise — and most definitely as a delight.

"Boo Bass" is a light electronica ditty comprised of various sound bites from the animated Pixar classic, most of which are noises made by the film's young heroine, Boo (voiced by Mary Gibbs), and the excitable mini-monster, Mike (Billy Crystal) — with the occasional aside by good ol' Sulley (John Goodman).

It's strange little Internet miracles like this that make us wonder where the creators found their inspiration. Were they sitting around watching "Monsters, Inc." and suddenly thought, "Hey, let's make a song out of all this noise?" Whatever prompted the endeavor, the end result is a treat.

Check out "Boo Bass" below, featuring Nick Bertke's remix of music by Pogo and video editing by goldpikpikcarrots. Thanks to our pals at io9 for the find.

But what makes Pixar so great? Is it just the films? Is it the characters? Is it the joyful and playful ethos behind the company? Or is it all of the above?

Well, follow the link to find out exactly why we love Pixar…

1. The characters: Woody and Buzz

The relationship that a lot of Pixar’s modern reputation was built on, the sometimes volatile dynamic between the “wimpy cowboy doll” and his Space Ranger best buddy is built on the solid foundation of exceptional character development and wonderful, appropriate voice work by Tom Hanks and Tim Allen.

There Will No Longer be Two Pixar Films in 2012
Monsters University logo

Photo: Disney / Pixar via The Pixar Blog It was certainly a bit odd to think 2012 would have two Pixar films in one year with Brave and Monsters University and it seems even Pixar and Disney finally slapped their foreheads once they realized they needed a Pixar film each and every year to satisfy the bottom line. The result... Monsters University has been moved from its previous November 2, 2012 to June 21, 2013.

The film, which we learned last week, is a prequel to the 2001 film featuring Monster Inc. employee James P. "Sully" Sullivan (John Goodman) and his one-eyed assistant Mike Wazowski (Billy Crystal) and their accidental run in with a little human girl named Boo (Mary Gibbs). The story will follow Mike and Sully during their time at the University of Fear, where they first met and despite their differences became good friends.

Disney’s Monsters Are Heading To University
The Disney/Pixar 2001 film, Monsters Inc. was quite the success for the studio, featuring the dulcet tones of such stars as Billy Crystal, John Goodman and Mary Gibbs, the film raked in a massive $525 million at the worldwide box office. So, ten years on, why are we only just getting a sequel?

The question is redundant of course, for ten years there’s been no monster in the closet, but now there are set to be hordes of them at your local university as Disney released the title for the long awaited sequel this week, yup, you guess it, Monsters University.

Disney made the announcement at this week’s CinemaCon, taking place at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas. While no other real details were leaked, it is expected that Crystal, Goodman and Gibbs will all return for Monsters University, along with the villain from the original film, Randall Boggs (voiced by Steve Buscemi).

Mary Gibbs in Monsters, Inc. (2001)
Monsters Inc. Is A Family Affair
Mary Gibbs in Monsters, Inc. (2001)
There may be an impressive cast of Hollywood actors voicing characters in Disney and Pixar's upcoming Monsters Inc., but two of the voices weren't found via Hollywood auditions. They were found in Pixar's offices. Says Bob Peterson, a Pixar story supervisor on the film who ended up voicing the slug-like Roz, "at first, I was just doing her voice as a scratch track... they did recordings with some real actresses but Pete [Docter] and the others just weren.t laughing as much." Also coming from the Pixar family is Mary Gibbs, who voices the human girl Boo. The daughter of Pixar story artist Rob Gibbs, a two-and-a-half year old Mary's screams and giggles were recorded for a scratch track. A year later, when the character was set and the real recording sessions began, Gibbs was given the role. It was mainly play for the bubbly blonde tot, who didn't quite grasp the impact of what she was doing at the time. Says her father, "Now that she.s five and has seen promos and trailers for the film, it.s just starting to sink in that she.s in a movie." She's apparently proud of it, her dad adds, saying, "my wife recently overheard her telling her friends in pre-school, .I.m in a movie.." (This story was compiled by IMDb staff)...
